Hi there! I'm (hopefully) moving out of my parents' house this year and would like to make room in my overflowing T-shirt drawer. Throwing them all away feels like a betrayal of these shirts I loved, so I want to make a T-shirt quilt out of them. Thing is, I've never made any kind of quilt at all, so I don't have that base of experience. Do you have any advice specifically for T-shirt quilts that would differ from regular quilting advice?
Hey! T-shirt quilts are on my list of things I'd like to make, but to be honest I have no idea how to make them. Every guide I've seen says to use interfacing to make the shirts sturdier, but I can't figure out of it's absolutely 100% necessary, or if most quilters just don't like sewing knits? I don't like using interfacing so I have not tried to make one yet
Hopefully someone who reads this will have more specific advice

60, 61, 62, and 63!!! I can’t believe I finished the quilting this summer, I thought it would take so much longer. Thanks for sticking with me though this post series, it was very motivating to post a photo of every square as I finished it. I’m headed back to home base on Wednesday so I’ll try to attach the binding this weekend so I can get to hand-sewing the rest of it next rotation (which is my surgery rotation so idk how much time I’ll have haha but we’ll see!) updates to follow….

it makes me sad how often textile arts are ignored as actual art forms, and are relegated to the disregarded realm of 'old lady hobbies'. there is so much skill involved, such a broad diversity of forms, but so many people straight up do not think of things like crochet or quilting as art.

I do not know if I can sate their hunger.
Progress on my big sword quilt project, each of my designs have been heavily inspired by a historical or classical fantasy reference. The sword on the left side is based on a combination of True Renaissance Two-Handers, or Zweihänder. The middle sword is loosely inspired by a Claymore reference. The sword on the right is inspired by Anduril of Lord of the Rings. Today I’m working on a rapier loosely inspired by Needle of A Song of Ice and Fire.
After I’ve gotten the basics of all my planned swords down I plan to go back through the designs, edit, and add detail. Then I’ll break them down into patterns and work on the quilt layout.
I am using swords as a motif for this quilt because the recipient loves them and owns quite a few replicas. I’ve stared at swords for hours now and really come to appreciate how beautiful they can be, their careful proportioning, the diversity of their designs and functions. The process of making this project has already given me a greater appreciation of my friend’s interest, and my friend. And a great excuse to listen to The Return of the King audiobook.
