Chapter 2: Stereo Hearts ~ Gym Class Heroes

Vanessa follows Sam into the cafe, recognizing it as the small place Holly got a new job at. Sam sits down with his back to the kitchen, having to see the front door, a weird habit of his. Meanwhile, Vanessa goes up front to the bored looking cashier and asks for two plain coffees and sides of cream, unsure how Sam takes his. She spots Holly through the order window and offers a quick wave, handing over her card to pay.

“Do you know the history of sugar?” Sam asks Vanessa as she sets down the various cups, he’s fiddling with the sugar packets.

“Um...no? And I don’t really want to...” She mutters, pulling a handful of sugar packs from him, adding “I already live with one weirdo.. I don't need another in my life.”

Peeking out from the kitchen to see Vanessa better, Holly notices some guy with her. Wait a second... is that Cute Butt? She’d recognise those shoulders anywhere and her breath catches in her throat when he turns to Nessa and Holly gets a look at his face. Holly waves a little, to get Vanessa’s attention, mouthing “Are you on a DATE??”

Vanessa shakes her head and points her finger in a gagging motion. Holly rolls her eyes, smirking because she BUSTED Vanessa.

“What are you gagging about?” Sam asks, whipping around to look at the kitchen but there’s no one there.

“It’s nothing...I was just thinking about the history of sugar.” Vanessa grins, taking a gulp of her coffee.

“Sick burn!” Sam exclaims, sarcastically as the two pick up their coffees and bags.

Vanessa swears she can hear Holly yell, “That is Cute Butt!” from the back and laughs to herself, attempting to follow what Sam is saying.

Holly is sitting on the couch that night, her fingers tapping on her knee when Vanessa comes home like nothing is wrong. But things are wrong with Holly.

“Who were you with and why was I not aware!?” She jumps up and peers over the back of the couch as Vanessa walks by and dumps her bag on the table behind the living area.

“What? This morning? That’s Sam I AM.” She giggles at her quick thinking and rolls her eyes when Holly gives her a pointed look. “NOT my type...I can’t believe you asked if I was on a date,” and she pretends to gag.

“Oh and how do you two know each other?” Holly sits up a little higher, her heart no longer throwing a tantrum because Cute Butt wasn’t on a date with her best friend...AND NOW SHE KNOWS HIS NAME!

“He goes to our school.” Vanessa shrugs, her back turned so she misses Holly’s eyes go wide but turns to watch her sink back into the couch with a gleaming smile on her face. “D-do you like him? Have you talked to him? Oh my god you guys would be perfect together. He’s kind of.. just like you?” She’s rambling and excited.

“Amazing in every way possible?” She smirks at Nessa

“Nah...kinda weird honestly.” There’s a pause, “I’m joking!!! Love you long time.” She snaps her fingers and walks out of the room like an idiot.

Meanwhile, Sam and Steve are at a bar waiting for Bucky. Sam slaps his hands on the table as Bucky walks up. “Boy do I have the girl for you!” He exclaims and Bucky almost turns around and leaves before Steve pulls him to sit down.

“Oh god... not you too?” He rolls his eyes.

“Too? I’m sorry who else is playing cupid in your love life, that is my job?”

“A dishwasher.” Bucky groans, ordering a beer.

“A what? Nevermind that, perfect girl! She’s annoying as fuck you two would get along like a house on fire!”

“Excuse me...I am a constant fucking delight.”

“Agree to disagree on that front.” Sam smiles, snatching Bucky’s beer from his hand.

Steve shakes his head at the pair, hiding behind his drink silently. Sam has been going on about the perfect girl for Bucky, “she’s a fucking clown” the entire time they’ve been waiting for him.

“Actually, I think I know just the girl for you Sam...she’s also highly irritating and abrasive.” Bucky smirks at Sam who almost chokes on his drink at Bucky’s clapback.

“Dammit...just one night of no bickering, it’s all I want...I’m so tired.” Steve groans, earning sympathetic looks from his friends.

“Okay okay, but I’m serious, you two would get on.” Sam winks, downing Bucky’s beer, forcing him to order another.

Bucky narrows his eyes and responds with a “Maybe.”

Holly pops her head in the doorway of Vanessa’s room with a beaming but suspicious smile. Vanessa is watching yet another true crime doc just like every other night really.

“You can come in.” Vanessa says, without looking away from the screen. She’s good at that and every time it scares Holly a little.

“You’re such a freak.” Holly giggles, climbing on her bed. “Anyways..I was gonna tell you about this guy I think you’d like,” she twiddles her thumbs and bites her lip but a mischievous smile slowly creeps onto her face when Vanessa narrows her eyes at her.

“Are you trying to set me up with an imaginary friend?”

“His name is Bucky.” She deadpans.

“OH so for sure, you’re trying to set me up with your imaginary friend. Who names someone Bucky?”

“That’s what I said. WAIT Would you focus here! I found your future husband!”

“Seems fake...but okay.” She changes the show, bored by Dahmer suddenly.

“I’m gonna go check the mail...wanna start dinner?” Before Holly can answer, Vanessa jumps up and throws on a hoodie.

Vanessa heads down the stairs, as it’s the only way to get to the mailboxes since the elevator actually broke down this time. She swings around the corner too wide and suddenly bumps directly into a wall... But it’s not a wall, it’s a man. A beautiful, blue-eyed man. And he smells so nice.

“You okay there?” He steadies her and apologizes.

But all she can think about and focus on are his damn ocean eyes, and she catches his apology a little too late. Nessa says sorry profusely, repeating herself over and over “it’s my fault oh my god, I’m so so so sorry” and he chuckles, cause this pretty girl is kind of insane. Bucky slowly removes his hands from her arms realising he’s still holding her and awkwardly sprints up the stairs. He’s not the best at talking to girls…

Vanessa darts to the mailbox, collecting both the mail and her thoughts, before rushing back up to the apartment. Holly jumps as Nessa flies into the room and screams, “HOLLY I’M IN LOVE!”

A few days later Sam and Bucky are walking through campus. Bucky stops, again, to retie his shoe and Sam nudges his shoulder so Bucky falls forward.

“You need new shoes.”

“Quit it! I know.”

Sam waits for him and looks around at his surroundings, groups of people on the grass, people carrying mounds of books. Then he sees, what he believes to be... an angel. In reality, it’s Holly trying to eat ice cream without spilling it on herself, I’m not talking sexy eating ice cream, I’m talking it’s dripping down her fingers and she’s struggling big time.

Sam is in awe with this girl, his eyes are caught on her tongue and her legs and everything about her. So caught up in this girl that he doesn’t notice Bucky standing up and brushing himself off until he’s walking straight into Sam, causing him to stumble and look away from the angel.

“What the hell?” Sam yells pushing Bucky back.

“Why aren’t you moving!?”

“I just saw the prettiest girl in the world excuse me, that’s why.” Bucky just shakes his head and starts walking down the path, Sam is quick to catch up.

“That’s impossible, the prettiest girl in the world lives in our apartment building and I would know, I’ve seen her” His thoughts go back to the small girl in the stairway, with the straight dark brown hair that he can’t stop thinking about and how it might feel running through his fingers.

“False. The prettiest girl in the world is right over there” Sam points to where Holly was standing but she’s nowhere to be found. There’s no one that looks even remotely like her around and he can’t find her. “What the hell where’d she go?!” Maybe she was an angel?

“Wow, I think you’ve finally lost it, buddy.” Bucky pats Sam’s back like a jackass and keeps walking.

“I hate you.”

“Come on...you’re making me late to class.”

”You just had to stop to tie your shoe for, like the thirtieth time...do you need velcro?”

“I’ll velcro you” The two shove each back and forth as they keep walking to Bucky’s class, both laughing but their minds not 100% in it.

“That doesn’t even make sense!” Sam bites back with a laugh.

Outside of Vanessa’s lecture hall, Holly waits patiently, eating an ice cream cone. The ice cream was supposed to be a small snack before the pair took off to get lunch. As Vanessa approaches, Holly discards the trash.

“Holly...you’ve got something on your face.” Nessa grins, taking in the melted chocolate on Holly’s face.

“My snack fought with me. I don’t want to talk about it.” Holly sighs and Vanessa searches her bag for some emergency wet-wipes. They start walking but Holly stops abruptly.

“Wait! Did Sam want to come to lunch? It’s totally cool.” She hasn’t told Vanessa he’s Cute Butt, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t try to see him.

“He’s not in that class and we’re not close like that.” Vanessa pauses, watching Holly with a confused stare.

“Oh. Cool. Just trying to make new friends that aren’t lame...like you.” Holly covers, tossing the wipes into the nearest trash bin.

“Go have lunch with your imaginary friend then.”

“HE IS NOT IMAGINARY” Holly cries, jogging to catch up to Nessa.

“Sure Jan. Can we go to your cafe? I’m really feeling an artisanal salad.” She asks when Holly falls back into step.

“Who are you and what have you done with Nessa?”

“HARDY HAR. We’re going.”

Car accident with no insurance?

I was stopped at a red light behind two cars. Both cars started to go and so did I the next thing I knew I had hit the car in front of me. The car in front of me hit the car in front of him. We all pulled over my car isnt to bad but I drive a suburban, the car in front of me was a smaller car so his looked a little worse. Nobody was hurt, and all cars were drivable, so we decided to not call the police we just all exchanged information. After we had finished and they left I immediately called my insurance lady to let her know what happened. I am not super clear on this next part, we have been going back and forth with our insurance since that call and will continue to fight it. When I called the insurance lady she said I wasnt covered. She said that they had received the last payment much later than it was due (not sure how because it was mailed the same time as always) but because of that our insurance had been cancelled. A couple of weeks ago they had chased our check, she said we were reinstated as of yesterday (the day of the accident) but because it was the same day they werent liable to pay the damages. We are going to keep fighting them because I dont think its fair. Even if they decide that they wont pay we can afford to just pay for the damages to the rear end of the car in front of us, because know matter what happened I am at fault for following to close. We cant afford to pay out of our pocket also for his front end and the rear end of the first car. Shouldnt those damages be covered by the car I hit because he was obviously following to close to the car in front of him?
