"Wake up, father. I sense a disturbance in the backyard."
Tumblr media
But seriously, this little snugbug is what, almost a year old, and she has the early spider-sense awareness down already? She is going to be quite the hero once she gets older, like in the comics.

ALSO LET ME JUST PUT THIS OUT THERE.. miguel projecting his self hatred and guilt onto another person even tho in all senses HE was the first anomaly that broke canon. They are the fucking same and Miguel is using Miles as an outlet for his own self hatred. The reason, other than yknow saving the multiverse, that he catches anomalies is because all of his own pent-up guilt eating away at him. Miles wasn't the first anomaly, he was.

Rotating in my head how both Peter B and Jess Drew seem perfectly tailored to be Miles' and Gwen's mentor figures respectively and are also perfectly set up to fail their students.
Jess is cool and badass and detached just as Gwen is trying to be and that detachment is what puts pressure on Gwen and ultimately leads to Jess abandoning her.
Peter is a seasoned and experienced Spiderman with a happy, healthy and loving family. It's that familial love that's his weakness throughout the entire movie. He causes distractions and deflects because he doesn't want to tell Miles the truth and hurt him so badly that his distractions end up distracting him as well. He's seasoned and experienced, which at this point makes him as jaded and traumatized as Miguel, too habituated to grief, too relieved at his own hard earned happiness that he refuses to rebel in fear of risking the family he has left. Which is if course what ends up hurting Miles the most.

I also really appreciate what they did with Pavitr's Spider-Man India costume. It looks so much cooler in this movie than it does in the comics. (Genuinely, his comics costume is pretty boring.)

Across the Spider-Verse Spoilers Below
Across the Spider-Verse twists the message of the first movie in such a painful way and I absolutely love it.
Into the Spider-Verse has the message of, you have to accept that you can’t save everyone and that the life of a hero comes with a certain darkness; and despite all that pain, you still have to keep trying if you want to fly.
Across the Spider-Verse twists that message into something much darker and awful aka, you have to let certain people die for the greater good and you have to endure the pain and darkness to be a hero; and if you try to go against any of that then you are dooming everyone else to death, if not a far worse fate.
Great power comes with great responsibility and it’s your responsibility as a hero to let people die.
It’s such a great inverse and twist of the first movie’s message, because when this message is first being said it almost seems close enough to being the same thing, because it’s being said in a less blatant and cruel way.
But it’s not the same, not even close.
It’s the difference between how someone CAN become a stronger person because of the suffering they’ve gone through and the messed-up idea people have that one NEEDS to suffer in order for them to become a stronger person.
The original message is this organic and beautiful life lesson and Miguel twists it to this horrifying, callous, algorithmic approach to life, that Miles rightfully points out.
And I absolutely love it!!!
Across the Spider-Verse is rejecting that message through Miles and Spider-Punk mainly and then later on with Gwen and Peter B. Parker by having all of them (and others) reject this message and approach to being a hero by the end of the movie,
I just really, really love it and I love Miles so goddamn much.
Best Spider-Person Ever!!!! That’s my beautiful son and I love him so much.

Can we just gush about Peter B. and how they showed him being around his daughter Mayday and how affectionate he was in the film?
The cute baby-talking, letting her play with his fingers, gently bouncing her in the carrier to soothe her and gently kissing her head, that cute little knit spider hat she has on. Even in the background where he isn't even the focus of the shot, he was always doing something with her.
And of course, they have him show off the baby pictures and want to take pictures of her during "her first chase" cause he is that kind of dad now and it's so great that he has this little spider tot in his life now.

Oh my god but it's also the WAY that itsv was misleading to make actual fans of the series think "oh this is just a cool creative direction for miles to go in" even if we KNEW that's not what his universe looked like when he became spiderman. Even though we still knew that in EVERY universe where Miles becomes spiderman that Peter Parker is brunette and not just that but it's also twenty years in the future. That we KNEW this wasn't the right Earth but we believed it anyway. Because all the changes made to not just istv Peter but his whole world already prepped us for change and a New Spiderman and New creative decisions for the character. It was just a creative decision for the world. But SEEING the Miles that was supposed to be spiderman and SEEING that world and going "ahh right." It IMMEDIATELY put everything into perspective. Because Miles' world wasn't just a creative decision it was purposeful choice. Miles' universe isn't "miles morals spiderman's universe" it just one universe in fucking HUNDREDS, THOUSANDS. IM SO. god. Fucking hell
The way I immediately recognized Earth-42 and that Miles hadn't gotten to his fucking universe because I had SEEN Eartn-42 in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon fucking YEARS ago. Did u hear that? I knew because I hadn't even seen Earth-42 in Miles' Property, i saw it in the Ultimate Spider-Man. Like , it's all fucking connected in the fucking multiverse it's all fucking THERE. and the REASON that Miles wasn't invited to Nueva York even though every other spider-person was is because he's not supposed to be there. This shouldn't be his story but it is. I AM NOT FUCKING NORMAL

also I LOVE that miles insisted on telling his parents gwen’s name is gwanda. for over a year. that truly served no purpose other than him alone finding it funny. didn’t think he’d ever see her again, couldn’t personally heckle her over it, but she did One embarrassing thing in front of him and he refused to let it die. truly bestie behavior.

The whole "coming out to your parent/s as a Spider-Person" storyline hit so close to home, as I think it will for many queer people. And the fact that the film came out at the start of Pride month made it even more significant <3
