Ad astra abyssoque! stumbled across your blog just a couple of days ago, and I really enjoyed your writings, especially the last couple of Papa Zhongli things. They were super wholesome, especially the second part with with the reader being an Illuminated beast, and I was hoping to make a request relating to that little series actually.
Basically, Zhongli has to go out and assist the Traveler on a quest. And because no self-respecting father would take his into such a potentially dangerous situation, he elects to enlist big sis Ganyu or big bro Xiao to babysit the reader while he's away. Imagine Xiao teaching the reader to fly in their swan-form? Aaaah, it'd be so cute!
Zhongli x Gn Child! Reader | Zhongli is an anxious parent + Xiao and Ganyu bonding moments and Zhongli story quest spoilers.
[ Ahhhh!!! Another request!! Thank you so much for the greeting! Please keep these coming. I love Papa Zhongli!]
Tumblr media
✄---------------------------------
It was a relaxing morning, as it began. Zhongli made a fresh cup of tea, and he made you breakfast. You ate your porridge at the dining room table, humming to a little song you heard in the harbor. Today was going to be peaceful and relaxing. Today was Zhongli's day off from the funeral parlor. He sat down beside you, humming your tune too, while drinking his tea.
Ah yes, a splendid day indeed. Maybe you two could go to the park? Or maybe go for a nice walk around Liyue Harbor for a stroll. However, Zhongli was happy he had a day to spend with you, his sweet adorable child-
That was until the traveler and Paimon practically broke down his door about needing him for a hidden and old domain they needed him for. Zhongli spat out his tea once he heard something about missing miners from the chasm. Although Zhongli was going to tell the traveler to speak with the Millelith around the chasm, however seeing them beg him for his aid like last time, he couldn't really argue. Especially about situations as weird as such.
As Zhongli was thinking about his options, your little hand tugged on his pinkie finger. Zhongli glanced down and met your gaze. You have grains of sticky rice stuck to your face, and held your little rubber ducky plush. But your eyes looked a little sad. "I thought today we would spend it together Papa...are you going to be busy again?" You looked down in your chair, Zhongli felt his heart crack. You'd been waiting for a day to spend with him. A whole day with your Papa, he had been busy with the parlor and the recent events of the Rite of Descension for Rex Lapis. Zhongli didn't notice how busy he was now that he was a full-time parent.
Zhongli gestured at the traveler for a moment alone with you. Dragging Paimon off and away for his privacy while Paimon was talking about your rice porridge. Zhongli brought you into his lap as he apologized to you, your little tears and sniffles broke his heart. He kissed them away while hugging you close. "Papa is so sorry my sweet swan. I didn't want to ruin our day, Papa will make it up to you, he promises." You nodded and wiped your tears saying you were a big kid and shouldn't cry. Zhongli could see right through the statement but didn't say anything. When he agreed to help the traveler, Paimon suggested something.
"Why not get someone to watch them? Paimon thinks you could as Hu Tao?" Zhongli almost had a heart attack at the statement. "I respect Ms. Hu Tao a lot but not enough to let her handle my child for a day."
"What about Baizhu?"
"He has QiQi I believe to take care of and it would be too sudden to ask him."
"Madam Ping?"
"She had YaoYao and Xiangling along with Yanfei, plus Ping isn't as lively as she wants to be for [name]."
"What about Childe?"
"No."
The sound of the word could shake anyone to the core. The amount of rage and fury within a single word was enough to convince Paimon to stop suggesting people. Finally, the traveler spoke for a good person.
"What about Xiao and Ganyu? You mention before [name] has met them, plus they are Adepti. Who better to watch them?" At the mere mention of Ganyu's name, you started kicking your feet in Zhongli's arms. He could tell you wanted to see her more. It had been a while since you two saw each other. Plus Xiao was a yakasha, he was agile enough to watch you and protect you. Cloud Retainer did mention you needed more time with your Adepti counterparts. Who better than those two?
Zhongli continued thinking before coming to a point.
"Fine, Ganyu and Xiao will work."
Traveler and Paimon cheered at finally they could get Zhongli to help them in their little mystery mission. But Zhongli continued. "But, let me take [Name] to Jueyun Karst and speak with those two first. If they are busy then I must decline the offer and stay home with [name]." The pair nodded.
Zhongli placed you down as you asked if Paimon was a rubber ducky too or a pretty birdy like your aunt Cloud Retainer as Zhongli went to get you a little baggie for your hangout with Ganyu and Xiao. After a few more minutes he packed your little bag.
It had a change of clothes, some snacks, water, and juice. A bedtime book, in case he can't get home in time. And a little Geo pin. The Geo symbol was an idea made by my Cloud Retainer, she gave you and Zhongli the pin after your last visit. A little item similar to Cor Lapis, that doubled as jewelry to security. It was able to find your location easily since it was pure Geo energy embedded into it from Zhongli's fingertips. He approved of such in case you got hurt while he was at work.
He placed the pin onto your shirt gently, with a little snap! It was done. You held your bag while you and your Papa walked out the door to head to Liyue's mountains in search of the two Adepti. The traveler waited back at the harbor for Zhongli to return back instead. By late morning, Zhongli was able to pinpoint Ganyu and Xiao. Luckily, they weren't too far away.
Getting into the circle of Jueyun Karst, Ganyu felt the ex-Geo archon within a few feet. Zhongli held your hand all the way up the mountains before you ran off to hug Ganyu. She accepted your hug happily while laughing with you about the sudden surprise.
"WoW! What a surprise, hello little swan! How are you [name]?"
"Papa said I get to spend the day with you! He said he needed to do something super empor....important!" You smiled as you tried to pronounce it correctly, Zhongli held your bag as he apologized to ganyu about the surprise visit.
"Sorry, something came up, and I was out of options around the harbor. Could you and Xiao watch [Name] for a day? Hopefully, this won't last all day. They have a set of clothes, snacks, juice, and water inside the bag." He handed the bag off to Ganyu as she took a peak inside. Your blanket was inside it, too.
"It's alright, Mr. Zhongli! Me and Xiao can watch them, matter of fact, he was just here... Oh! I know, [name] why don't you call big brother Xiao, huh?" Ganyu leaned down with you to cup your hands around your mouth to help you be louder. Of course, Xiao wasn't that far away. He dashed as soon as he knew Zhongli was around Minlin.
You cupped your hands and started shouting.
Within seconds, the Yakasha stood before you, his menacing aura disappearing as you clung onto his leg while rambling about duck racing, shopping, and story time. Xiao confused as he saw Ganyu smirk at him, Zhongli greeted and wished them luck as he walked down the path toward the rope bridges waving goodbye to them. You said goodbye to your Papa, not crying because strong big kids don't cry. Ganyu laughed as you clung to Xiao. Rather than a scowl of scuff, he just patted your head while mumbling something under his breath.
"XIAO! BIG BROTHER XIAO! XIAO, BIG BROTHER WHERE ARE YOU! DO YOU WANT TO PLAY? YOU CAN HAVE MY RUBBER DUCKY BLANKIE!"
"We should get heading to the harbor first, I need to drop off some documents and some deliveries before taking a day off. Is that okay? [name]? Xiao?" As much as Xiao hated the idea of walking into the harbor, he saw your eyes light up about exploring. Without a second thought, he agreed.
The journey to the harbor was fun enough. You held hands with both Ganyu and Xiao while singing little nursery rhymes. You told me about how your Papa had to fish out your rubber ducky out of the jaws of oblivion(the toilet). For the walk down towards the bustling harbor, Xiao became worried if you were fighting demons along with your father. If so, he needs to drop by your house on his patrols more often. When you reached the harbor, Ganyu let go of your hand to go off with a purple lady.
"Hold onto Big Brother Xiao's hand, okay? Don't let go, and don't run off, okay? We'd hate for you to get lost." She smiled and pinched your cheeks while hurrying off with the purple lady quickly. Xiao felt tense as he held your hand.
Looking around, you saw familiar faces, like YaoYao, Madam Ping, Ms. Yanfei, and big sister Xiangling. You wanted to run and call for them, but Xiao's strength beat you to it. He held your hand tightly.
"No running off.." He repeated Ganyu's statement. You felt a little sad as his tone seemed angry but stayed silent. Xiao stuck near the railing of the wooden ramp, when entering the harbor like glue.
His eyes kept scanning the area. Luckily, not too many mortals were around the both of you. Quietly, Xiao lifted you up and started swaying you, mainly to keep you quiet and also to make sure you weren't bored with him. He wasn't naturally good with kids, unlike Ganyu, who could just find ways to keep you entertained like it was normal. He had to really think. Xiao knew you liked ducks... maybe he could capture one and give it to you?
By the time Ganyu got back, she had brought some little ice cream cones for everyone. [Favorite Flavor] for you, some almond vanilla for Xiao, and a regular vanilla and strawberry swirl for herself. You all sat near the commerce guild before going back to Mount. Hulao.
The walk back was quick, Gabyu helped you climb the peaks, and Xiao made sure you both didn't fall.
"Wow, I'm on top of the world!" You shouted, Xiao couldn't help but pat your head and offer a small smile. The peaks of Liyue mountains were one of a kind.
While enjoying the serenity of the moment, you turn and look at Ganyu.
"Big sister Ganyu?"
"Hm? Yes? What is it [name]?"
"I wanna fly like Aunty Cloudy!" You puffed out your cheeks while demanding to learn to fly.
"HUH??? Who is Aunty Cloudy??" Ganyu leaned down while trying to keep her composure. Flying??? At your age?? You can't even pronounce certain names yet or even certain regions of Liyue.
"They mean Cloud Retainer. They want to fly like an Adeptus." Xiao stated blanky. You were jumping all around repeating, and you wanted to learn how to fly.
However, Xiao kept your hand tight in his, his grip strong but not too tight. After a while, you tired yourself out and were promised to be taught how to fly another day. Ganyu helped you back to Jueyun Karst and set the picnic blanket up along with some simple snacks from your bag Papa Zhongli gave you and some little tea cups she picked up in Liyue Harbor.
Xiao is holding his cup by your orders, with the pinkie finger out too! You all enjoyed your tea party and then played knights and dragons. Ganyu is running after you while Xiao was trying to catch you.
You also did some painting, you painted a flower, Ganyu a mountain, Xiao some rice fields of Qingce.
By the time Zhongli came to get you, you weren't holding your ducky plushie. You were holding onto the hands of your Adepti siblings. While you all were napping away the time. He saw Cloud Retainer in the distance and decided to sit at the table with her and enjoy some tea.
He'll take you home when you want to wake up, for now he had to catch up with anither old friend too. This time, his life and the traveler's isn't in immediate danger.

nostalgic food
i’ll want to reference this in the future
Tumblr media
gỏi cuốn (spring roll with chicken, egg, rice noodle, carrot, lettuce, avocado)
Tumblr media
peanut sauce is just peanut butter+water, hoisin+sriracha sauce, and a tiny bit of sesame oil (tastes good with almost anything imo)
Tumblr media
yellow curry
rice noodle with chicken, potatoes, yams, onions, carrots in a creamy coconut milk and yellow curry paste broth
lemon juice and salt mix with garlic chili for dipping
Tumblr media
bò kho (vietnamese beef stew)
kho is a cooking technique where a protein is braised in a mixture of fish sauce, sugar, and water or coconut juice to make a salty/savory result
bread dips in stew beef/potatoes dip in lime juice/salt/pepper mix
cucumber slices to offset the salty
Tumblr media
xá xíu (cantonese style bbq pork)
the seasoning mix is made of sugar, powdered soy sauce, onion and garlic powder, and spices
the pink color very much freaked out middle schoolers at lunch
Tumblr media
cơm tấm (broken rice, grilled pork, egg, pickled carrots/daikon with scallions/oil garnish and fish sauce)
Tumblr media
bún bò huế (thick round rice noodle with beef soup)
more "fun" than phở imo
bún bò broth: spicy salty flavor (lemongrass, spicy chili, fermented shrimp paste, fish sauce)
phở broth: earthy sweet flavor (cinnamon, star anise, onion, ginger, garlic, herbs)
Tumblr media
bánh mì (baguette sandwich with chả lụa (pork sausage), xá xíu (cantonese style bbq pork) coriander leaf (cilantro), cucumber, pickled carrots, and pickled daikon combined with pâté and buttery mayonnaise)
Tumblr media
salmon instead of nem nướng̣ (viet grilled pork) with bánh hỏi (rice vermicelli)
feat nori (dried edible seaweed)
wrapped with lettuce and dipped in nước mắm (fish sauce)
Tumblr media
bánh cuốn (rice noodle rolls filled with ground meat, wood ear mushrooms, onions)
topped with chả lụa (pork sausage) and fried red onions and nước mắm (fermented salted fish sauce)
a fav of grandpa's
pizza man mispronounces it as "bun goo" which makes my mom giggle cause the way he says goo sounds like penis
Tumblr media
bánh tét (glutinous rice rolled in a banana leaf into a thick, log-like cylindrical shape, with a mung bean and pork filling)
Tumblr media
bánh rán (deep fried sesame ball filled with mung bean)
Tumblr media
bánh da lợn "pig skin cake" (tapioca starch, rice flour, mung bean, taro, coconut milk)
Tumblr media
bánh bột chiên (fried taro rice cake, a fav of pizza man)
Tumblr media
phở (broth: earthy sweet flavor- cinnamon, star anise, onion, ginger, garlic, herbs)
ive called phở mid but while eating this i was like huh this is good actually then my dad says this time he simmered chicken bones for hours like he's supposed to instead of using canned broth
Tumblr media
improvised bún thịt nướng (rice noodle bowl with chopped grilled pork, egg roll, veggies, crushed peanuts, fish sauce)
a way to deal with leftover noodles from gỏi cuốn
every time i eat this i think of the time me and pizza man were in new orleans and he asked if i wanted to eat at a viet place and i was surprised cause he's not really into a lot of viet food but anyway i got bún thịt nướng
Tumblr media
thịt kho (pork with eggs braised in sticky savory caramel of sugar, fish sauce, coconut water)
i have distinct flashbacks of being in the middle school cafeteria with my thịt kho and kids around me going "what is that??", "ewwww" lol
Tumblr media
cháo (rice porridge with chicken or a white meat fish- often served with crunchy cabbage salad)
my dad likes it with youtiao (chinese donuts)
being sick means eating this! but we also eat it a lot when we’re not sick!
when my mom was young she would say yes to any dude that asked her out and order an obscene amount of food/the most expensive things on the menu and never hear from them again but my dad took her to a cháo place cause that was his favorite but apparently for cheapskates
he proposed two weeks later and she said yes
my mom is such a menace i wanna be just like her

Kenma's been meaning to tell Kuro he Loves him for some time now, but every time he tries, it doesn't come out right, doing something unrelated instead.
Kuro tells him, "I Love you" regularly because he's practiced it throughout the years even before they got together officially. But Kenma is different, Kenma finds Loving Kuro overwhelming, not in a bad way, but in a way where any combination of words wouldn't be enough to express how much Love Kenma has for Kuro. Kuro, who writes Kenma long-winded poems about Loving him, Kuro who kisses him every chance he gets and tells him "I Love you" without much thought, but Kenma knows he means it every time. Kuro has a lot of Love to give Kenma, he's been providing a steady supply of it since Day 1 and Kenma has been grateful since Day 1.
But sometimes Kenma would like to provide a more visible steady supply of Love for Kuro to see. He wants Kuro to know that Kenma Loves him as much as he loves Kenma. He wants to but Love is too short of a word and Kuro deserves more. He always deserves more.
Kuro comes home at night tired from work. He changes into something comfortable letting Kenma know about his day and the things that went wrong and the things that went right, and Kenma enamoured with every syllable that falls out of Kuro's mouth, only listens. He wants to tell him "I Love you" when he's done speaking, but instead he says, "Do you want me to heat up our dinner?" and Kuro smiles and kisses him in agreement.
Kuro laughs really loud, has always laughed really loud, even when his jokes aren't even funny. Kenma Loves it though, Loves that Kuro's joy is loud and wants to hear it as many times as possible. Kuro tells jokes with friends and Kenma wants to tell him he loves him then every time, but instead he laughs as loud as Kuro does, matching his energy without meaning to. He's never been loud with his joy, but Kuro makes his joy loud, he figures proximity just does that.
Sometimes Kuro gets sick and has to stay home and rest. Kenma cancels his streaming and makes Kuro rice porridge. Kuro's nose is all stuffy and he sounds kinda funny. It's endearing, but everything Kuro does is endearing, even when he's being annoying. Kenma wants to tell him he Loves him then as he's checking his temperature and Kuro's complaining about being behind on work. Instead he says "Do you want me to check your work emails?" Because he knows Kuro's afraid he'll miss something important and Kenma wants to make sure he doesn't. So he checks his emails and meticulously schedules and summarizes what's important to show Kuro later when his head isn't pounding.
Kenma's been meaning to tell Kuroo he Loves him since they were children, but all that came out was "Kuro."
Kenma's been meaning to tell Kuro "I Love you" by their river, under their bridge and all that came out was a new shared technique, him joining Kuro's team and a fever.
Kenma's been meaning to tell him "I Love you and I'm going to miss you," when Kuro went off to university but instead he gave Kuro a new handheld console with a couple multiplayer games, his friend code already programmed into it so that Kuro can play with him.
Kenma's been meaning to tell him "I Love you" every time Kuro's given him advice, but all that's come out is Kenma applying that advice to fix his problem.
Kenma's been meaning to tell him "I Love you" every time Kuro's hard at work at his desk for hours without rest, but all that Kenma does is place a snack and a juice box next to him so he can eat something.
Kenma's been meaning to tell Kuro "I Love you" after a bad nightmare about things long passed, but all that comes out is hugging Kuro tighter, carding his fingers through his ever-messy hair as he listens to why things long passed still hurt.
Kenma's been meaning to tell Kuro "I Love you" after having sex and them being all sticky, but all that happens is Kenma pulling Kuro to the bathroom where he draws a bath for both of them.
Kenma's been meaning to tell Kuro "I Love you" after finding him asleep on the couch with their cat on top of him, but all he does is climb over him to sleep half on top of him too because Kuro needs a blanket.
Kenma's been meaning to tell Kuro "I Love you" before his interview for a JVA position, but all that comes out is Kuro in a tidy new suit to impress and Kenma learning how to make a perfect knot on a tie.
Kenma's been meaning to tell Kuro "I Love you" as he watches him play with their friends' kids and all he ends up saying is "we should consider having a kid one day" to a Kuro who's surprised, because Kenma's never been interested in anything related to kids before.
Kenma's been meaning to tell Kuro "I Love you" but all he does is buy a ring.
Kenma's been meaning to tell Kuro he Loves him for some time now, but it never comes out right. He wonders if he's just cursed to never have the right words to say something he desperately wants to communicate. He wonders if Kuro's upset that he can't say it right.
He rolls the phrase in his mouth dozens of times before he proposes, 3 words, 6 sounds, writes it down too for good measure and fills dozens of pages with the phrase.
He thinks he's got it down when Kuro comes home from work and he gives him his "welcome home" kiss.
He thinks he's got it down when they're eating dinner together and he makes Kuro laugh too hard at a joke that he snorts water out of his nose.
He thinks he's got it down when they're washing the dishes even though Kuro gets a bit too playful with the water.
He thinks he's got it down until the last second where he tells Kuro he wants to tell him something important. Kuro only looks at him kindly, waiting patiently for Kenma to tell him, never forcing things out of him and giving him a way out of he can't say it in the end.
Because Kuro understands him well enough to know that anxiety never truly left him. But Kuro is everything that Kenma could and will ever want, and he wants him to know it, even if the anxiety claws at his insides. He just hopes he's everything Kuro could ever want too.
So he holds up his box, holding it tightly before depositing it onto Kuro's hand, who opens it to find a neat gold band with a couple tiny stones and an engraved message that only makes Kuro snort. And that's enough for Kenma to feel at ease, because it's just Kuro and Kuro makes everything easy.
"I Love You" he says as Kuro takes out his ring, "I wanted you to know that since I figured it out, but I couldn't say it."
"But you did let me know" Kuro remarks, "many times actually" and then Kuro tells him those times.
Every time Kenma did something for Kuro and Kuro registered it accurately as Love. Because Kuro knows Kenma as well as Kenma knows Kuro, and he knows how Kenma works. And he knows Kenma only does things he wants to do. And he knows Kenma has done things for him because he wants to do them, and to him that has always been Love.
"I Love you" says Kenma "I want you to hear it too. I Love you."
"I Love you too," Kuro says smiling against Kenma's lips.
"Will you marry me?" Kenma replies.
"Yeah" Kuro shows him his hand, shiny new ring attached, "I will" before kissing Kenma to seal the deal.
"Engraving 'wanna level up?' on the ring is pretty cute" Kuro tells him the next morning over breakfast, admiring his ring, "It's corny and I Love it"
"You're corny and I Love you, so it made sense" Kenma says with egg in his mouth.
Kuro laughs before grabbing Kenma's hand from across their table, "I Love you."
Kenma holds Kuro's hand in kind, smiling toward him likes he's done before and will continue to do, "I Love you too."
Kenma sometimes wants to tell Kuro he loves him and lately it's been easier.

Rice part 1
Rice can be anything, it can be plain, it can be awesome, it can be a sweet porridge thingy... but lets go to the basics
First before we go to practicals, we will go through some theory, bear with me, the more you understand something, the more deeply you can enjoy it.
Now
Different rice types-
Grain length- (remember that when it's broken rice, rice just turns smaller, it still holds the properties of what grain rice it was)
Short grain rice- It tends be more sticky and clump together when properly cooked, they are very soft and easy to mush together, you can feel the extra starch if you concentrate actually. I have to say, I do not have too much experience with these as I tend to prefer the other grains.
Eg- Japanese rice (Types of popular short grain rices like glutenous rice which, in grain form, is used for sushi rice, rice pudding, or just as a side dish)
Medium grain rice- Doesn't clump together, but still gets very soft and mush-able, the starch is there. These types of rices tend to be good as base dishes, they are your dear everyday rices.
Eg- Arborio rice and Carnaroli rice (Used in risotto), Jasmin rice (as... just rice? or very good as fried rice. Also mexican rice I think?)
Long grain rice- A little firmer, fancy fancy rice, cook it when you wanna impress people, or if you like your rice more chewy than soft and fluffy.
Eg- Basmathi! (pulav, biriyani, tahdig, more tasty rice dishes can be made, yes yes)
White rice and... non white rice-
Look, no rice is white, when you make it white, it's called white rice, tada! Some other rices have only the outermost layer (inedible hull) removed for consumption. The bran and germ remain intact, giving them colours like red, brown, and black. White rice is good when you want that plain taste, but the others also have a delicious nutty, bran-y flavour? Also the texture will be different because of the fibre content.
Parboiled rice- My beloved, the perfect balance between white and brown rice. It's slightly boiled in it's husk, but then refined. Not light and bland like white rice, not as strong in bran as brown rice. It's also a lil chewier and needs soaking before cooking.
Eg- Matta rice (Cooked as just rice, eaten with side dishes)
I'll give you instructions on how to make different rices in a plain way next!

Being busy with real life, so I just watched The Sims channel on Youtube, I found youtube video
EA what is this? l Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack by Matinee
Ha ha ha.
"Coconut rice"?
What the ****, EA? As a Southeast Asian I never heard of term "Coconut rice"
I asked my real friend from Malaysia, and she was confused with word "Coconut rice" too, she laughed then replied to me, "You mean Nasi Lemak? *laughing emoticon*"
^ Yes, seriously, but I cannot show her chat screenshot due to privacy.
Probably Coconut rice is word invented by Westerners or White Caucasian race. As if the word sounds like "Rice" with grated "Coconut" toppings, which sounds very misleading.
As Southeast Asian, we say dishes that have rice cooked with coconut milk in direct name of the dish, not just "Coconut milk rice" or "Nasi Santan". Malaysians call it Nasi Lemak. Indonesians call it Nasi Uduk. Thais call it ข้าวเหนียวมะม่วง (Khao Niao Mamuang) --> Thai Mango Sticky Rice
Here are pictures of Coconut Milk. For this kind of product it is called "Coconut Cream" because it has little amount of water. 100% legit my own photos I took from nearby minimarket.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By Googling "Nasi Lemak", here is the result:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How could EA, as big massive company make stupid mistake like this? Designer is not just 1 person in studio. There are Intern, Junior Designer, Senior Designer, Supervisor, Art Director. And there are a lot of people in the studio who can supervise and give feedback and advise internally. And yet they cannot Googling "Nasi Lemak" properly. What's the point of Supervisor and Art Director once again? Makan gaji buta? Eating salary without giving effort at all?
EA wrongly represented Nasi Lemak with random rice texture, but then they decided to just "renaming" it with Western/White Caucasian term "Coconut rice" instead of giving update correct Nasi Lemak mesh.
As a designer from corporate who had worked in video game company before, I can tell you this apologize is not sincere and lazy. The proper apologize is supposedly making proper new mesh update of Nasi Lemak.
CC creator, icemunmun, from India, has already created functional Nasi Lemak. CC LINK DOWNLOAD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
EA is massive company releasing The Sims as AAA video game titles from The Sims 1,2,3,4 with many expensive expansion packs who brought them massive profit yet they didn't want to spend any effort to give correct proper update with one new mesh.
As if they already know they made mistake and decided to not wanting to spend any more effort because
They already gained massive profit from international sales... and don't care much about players from Southeast Asian countries including Malaysian that their content depicted wrongly in-game as they thought Southeast Asian players are not profitable enough compared to USA and European players.
Ignorance about Asian culture, instead of hiring Southeast Asian people as staff/source person who are willing to give authentic information. They non-Asian people must be thinking that "Nasi Lemak and Coconut rice are the same thing because contains coconut!!"
Tumblr media
Yes I know EA studio who created The Sims 4 content is from U.S.A. Here I need to tell you something, U.S.A. people: We Asians, including Europeans, took food very seriously. Food is culture. If you U.S.A people depict our food wrongly, it means you insult our culture. I heard many Europeans complained about U.S.A people who don't take European food culture very seriously. What if USA flag is wrongly depicted by other flag such as Australian flag or Malaysian flag? I bet you USA people are very offended, right?
People tend to learn something from media, movies and video games. Because many Westerners don't know Nasi Lemak, they will think Nasi Lemak looks like porridge like what depicted in-game. Despite White Caucasian of British colonizer had colonized Malaysia, yet many White Caucasian people still don't know what Nasi Lemak looks like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is not first time EA misinterpreted Asian culture. EA has wrongly misinterpreted Chinese culture very badly in Shang Simla world.
Thank you sister Martinee for daring to speak up about this issue.
What EA depicted as "Nasi Lemak"
Tumblr media
Looks like baby porridge I ate because I was sick.

Food in Nora's Return (in mostly reverse order of appearance)
On Nora’s, she found a mound of lavender-scented rice, shredded lamb, fire-burnt leeks, and coins of pumpkin with two sauces on the side: mint and lavender-sage. Gabriel’s plate did not resemble hers at all, save for the fragrant rice. His meat was flakes of white fish mixed with lemons and zested with orange.
~
“What are we going to do when we see them?” Gabriel asked. He tore the spongy teff bread into tiny pieces, dropping them into the thick stew of tomatoes, peppers, and shredded duck. Nora spooned some of the stew onto her bread. “Act as we always do.
~
For the first time Nora could remember, when she walked downstairs for breakfast, Ambrose was waiting for her. He held one large tray carrying two small bowls of a rice porridge with many small bowls holding different fruits and spices and two cups of rice milk.
~
“Sorry for stopping by so late,” Nora said. She held a tray carrying a small pistachio sesame cream cake and a pot of that smoky Crellish tea Ambrose had liked before.
~
When Nora woke again, she found a bowl of a creamy rice porridge sitting on a tray on her desk. The porridge was still hot.
~
The bowl placed before Nora was tall and wide, half-filled with steaming soup. The waiter set a mountain of fragrant white rice next to her bowl. The oil in the soup glistened in the sunlight. Soft pink flakes formed a circle in the center of her soup. Surrounding it were a bundle of moon-white mushrooms, a twist of dark green leaves, several translucent slices of a root, and a golden, gelled yolk nestled in two halves of a small, cream egg white. Nora slid her spoon just below the surface, scooping up both soup and a few dots of oil. She sipped it from her spoon. Heat from the spices and peppers warmed her mouth. The fish flavor was subtle and almost sweet. Nora scooped in a spoonful of rice and took a larger bite.
~
Nora sat on the other side of the tray. He had brought hummus, puffed rice crackers, grilled bananas, and a variety of berries. “This looks delicious.” Ambrose spread some hummus on a cracker and held it out for Nora to take. “I had them add extra lemon to the hummus for your preferred abomination.”
~
Nora sent him to find them a place to sit while she purchased for them: two bowls of small bowl of cool, sticky rice mixed with black beans, coconut, and mango.
~
Ambrose met them near the door of the dining room with a large platter of steamed buns. “My treat, today,” he said. Nora had not arranged anything special for lunch, content with whatever the Academy had ordered in, and so had no issue shifting to steamed buns instead. Gabriel likewise shrugged.
~
“Why luna buns?” Ivy gave her a confused look, but then turned back to her pot. She pulled another spoon from the spoon cup and used it to fish out the one she’d dropped. “They’re the first thing I learned to make. I was too sick to attend the festival on Astelanon so my papa learned how to make luna buns so I wouldn’t miss out.” Her voice, sweet as ever, rang with a note of sadness. “We didn’t have a grill, so he fried the rice instead of grilling it. That’s still my favorite way to make them.” She washed off the spoon that had fallen into her pot and dropped it back into the correct cup.
“No letters yet?” Nora asked, remembering Ivy’s tears from nearly two months ago.
Ivy shook her head. “Do you prefer your ginger syrup hot or sweet?”
“Hot.”
Ivy shot her a quick smile over her shoulder. “Me too. Papa prefers sweet though. He always says his life has had enough spice and that he deserves some sweetness now.” Ivy removed the pot from the heat and gave it one more stir. She then piled her bowl of cooked rice and a bowl of water onto the empty tray and moved them to the table beside Nora. Ivy wet her hands and scooped up some rice to roll into a ball. “He likes fillings in his buns, too. I prefer plain, though.” She glanced up at Nora. “More ginger flavor that way.”
Nora nodded, somewhat disbelieving she and Ivy had this one thing in common. “I prefer plain, too.” Gabriel liked his stuffed with a lemon curd. Ambrose preferred chopped nuts and cardamom.
~
“Get us a table,” she ordered the others. “I’ll get us some tirazi.”
Gabriel and Ambrose looked puzzled, but Ivy’s eyes widened. “What flavors do they have?” she asked.
“Sweet cream and a sour cherry jam,” Nora said. “You’ve had them?”
“One of my babysitters growing up was from Tegata. She’d make them for special days. Ask if they have lemon cream?”
“I will,” Nora promised. Then, unsure why, she did. The shopkeep did have lemon cream. She also had passion fruit curd.
(Note: Tirazi are fried sweet dough with fillings.)
~
Nora did not know how to respond to that. She took a bite of her rice. It was unctuous with rich duck meat, soft egg yolks, and a thread of sweet mustard for balance. She savored the bite to give herself a moment to think.
~
The family table was not covered with a variety of dishes. Instead, Nora only counted five serving plates or bowls, each filled with one of the king’s favorite foods. Outside, Nora knew the others dined a starry sky’s worth of small dishes, each exquisitely flavored. Family did not need such a show of wealth.
[...]
Ambrose returned carrying a bottle of esal, a fruit wine made from plums and pineapples.
~
The next day, Nora sent out for a picnic lunch with a variety of pickled fruits and vegetables with soft patties of pounded rice and a variety of sauces.
~
But then Gabriel asked, “What did Fletcher want?” His focus was on his meal, a thick stew of vegetables and spices and a side of spongy flatbread. Ambrose, however, was focused fully on her.
[...]
“I won’t ask for details then,” Ivy said, scooping up some of her stew with her bread. Not a single drop fell onto her dress. Nora glanced down at her own bowl and the spoon she was using to eat. Before she would have pointed out how uncouth Ivy was for using her bread like a spoon and part of her ached to say the same now, but she knew they weren’t true. Plenty of people didn’t need utensils to eat like Nora did. They were graceful enough to manage without.
~
“Nowhere,” Nora said quickly. She stuffed a bite of sticky rice and fruit into her mouth. The mint chopped through the dish was cooling.
~
The girl was back and carrying a large plate and forks. “Apologies, your highness. I didn’t mean to hear or interrupt, but my brother really will slaughter me if I don’t give you some pie. You’ll like it. His pies are the best. He makes his own flour blend.” She slipped the pie onto the table and handed each of them a fork.
[...]
Nora took a small bite. The pie had a floral lemon filling that melted over her tongue. The crust was flaky instead of the dense crusts she was accustomed to. She savored the bite, her eyes fluttering closed. When she opened them again, Ambrose was looking away, blushing again, and Gabriel was shaking his head.
~
Ambrose carried the small tray of sweets over to the table Ivy had chosen inside. He had bought Nora two cinnamon cookies as promised and a golden brown bar for himself. The bar was a smoky caramel brownie the bakery had designed just for Ambrose during one of their many visits prior to joining the Academy. Many sweet shops across the city had added some menu items over the years to appeal to his need for smoky, even burnt flavors.
Ivy had also chosen a cookie, though hers was topped with a soft pink icing. She ate oddly, Nora noticed. After taking one small bite, Ivy scraped off a bit of icing and savored it slowly. Then, she scraped off another piece. Her gaze was studious, but not focused on anything in particular. Then she ate some of the plain cookie without frosting. Again, she chewed very slowly. Finally, she took another normal bite.
Nora glanced at Ambrose to see if he was noticing her behavior as well. He was. “Is everything all right?” Ambrose asked.
Ivy’s cheeks darkened. “Sorry. I had expected a vanilla frosting that would soften the sharpness of the lemon in the cookie, but it isn’t just vanilla. The frosting has a very slight fruit element as well, though not as fresh as the lemon. A tea perhaps? The cookie is also incredibly soft, almost as if—excuse me.” She stood and strode over to the counter. She spoke to the clerk for a moment and then the clerk fled to the kitchen. A moment later, a tall man with arms like barrels exited the kitchen.
Ivy greeted him with a smile. “My apologies for disturbing you,” she said. “I was enjoying your lemon cookie and I had a few questions.” She confirmed the use of tea in the frosting and then turned the discussion to the flours used in the cookie. The baker denied using any rice flours in the cookies which prompted Ivy to ask, “Are you friends with a winemaker then, perhaps?”
~
“Clever,” Nora said. “My suggestion is The Broken Wheel. They’re another bakery and make rather delicious spiced meat steamed buns.”
~
“Teo finally convinced his father to add some food to the menu. He said if we give him a day’s warning, he’ll include those big, sticky cinnamon buns on the day’s menu and save us a few.”
“How long have you known about this?” Nora asked, imagining the soft, warm, spicy buns. Teo was two years older than they were and worked in his father’s bar at the harbor. Thanks to his good relationships with merchants, he had access to ingredients others couldn’t afford—like the cinnamon for Nora’s buns.
~
Nora took a bite of her millet cake. Warmth filled her mouth, which matched well with the spicy ginger tisane.
~
Nora noticed he barely touched his food—a cool mint and carrot soup and steamed meat buns. It was simple fare, but appropriate for the holiday.
~
Petra filled a small tray with a variety of steamed buns, indicating which were leftover from lunch and which were filled with fruit jelly. She also boiled some water and fixed up a pot of tea. “Tell the prince this is from my private stash,” Petra advised her. “If he wants more, his father needs to finalize his trade deal with Creldyn.”
~
On the bench, Viola divided the half-dozen tirazi between them. Nora chose one with a dot of speckled cream poking out of one end. It was still warm and the fragrant vanilla cream filled her mouth with delight. She hummed in pleasure.
[...]
She selected another tirazi, this one smeared with a bit of red jam. The nutty dough complemented the sour cherries well.
~
Ambrose sprinkled more smoky pepper over his fish as he thought. “I’m sure they’d find need of me if I showed up, but no one’s sent word I need to be home.”
“Good. What do you think, Gabriel?”
Gabriel swallowed a bite of lemon rice. “I’d planned on visiting the harbor, but something new sounds fun.”
~
“Pickles. Fried pickles on a stick.”
~
“Yes, Petra,” Nora said in a tone she knew would make Petra roll her eyes. Nora followed the corridor into the kitchens and passed along Petra’s instructions. Within moments one of the bakers had her nestled next to a big belly oven with a roll of spongy flatbread spread with honey in one hand and a mug of sweetened tisane in the other. The aroma of rich spices and fish filled the kitchen. The various kitchen servants chattered and shared gossip. Nora withstood the warmth of the oven side seat for two bites of her bread before slowly sneaking away from the kitchen to an outer, cooler room.
~
Around dinner time, the kitchen staff brought her a small tray of rice and the same rich fish curry she’d smelled earlier.

Chicken and rice is a combination that spans cultures and cuisines, and has won hearts across the world. It's a comforting, flavorful, and often economical pairing which takes two commonly available ingredients and makes them greater than they would have been alone. In fact, chicken and rice are such an amazing duo that they're featured heavily in Starch Madness 2023, Serious Eats' yearly event which has 64 rice dishes competing to see which reigns (starchly) supreme.
Below, we've put together a list of our favorite chicken with rice recipes, suitable for cooking any time of year. Your dinner table has never looked better!
