A tiny list of ideas for things that you can make yourself for people you love as gifts:

Special cards. First option that comes to mind is obviously drawing/painting it yourself but if you're not feeling sure about your skill you can also resort to cute and fun Photoshops. You can even easily make them on your phone, now. Edit them into a passionate embrace with their favorite celebrity or put the two of you onto a goofy little Clipart of a horse carriage. Paste a million of their favorite emojis around the picture of them. Print out on glossy photo paper, glue a crafting paper with a pretty pattern on the back and write your wishes there. It's so much more fun to hang it up over the desk or on a fridge than a regular store-bought one!

Clay art. It's difficult to get access to potteries, especially when you're not a professional, but you can still get a nice bit of clay from art stores and make little thingies. Look up online tutorials, learn what's the difference between air-dry and polymer clay, decide which one is better for you.... Get some paints and make something cute. There are many things you can make!! Ashtrays, candle or jewellery holders, tiny figurines, even charms for necklaces or bracelets or earrings or even keychains... The fun part of it is also that it doesn't have to have a specific shape, it can be just a heart or even a circle with their name, or "I love you" written on it. A shapeless blob can become a cute little kitty if you paint it nicely. Especially a great gift for people who like trinkets of all sorts.

A playlist!!!!!! This one's pretty obvious coming from me. I've been actually making people playlists as gifts for a loooong time now, it's just that before I'd do that in the form of burning CDs 😁 which I think is very meaningful and romantic, but nowadays not many people own CD players or even drivers in their laptops.... Spotify comes in handy here, then. If not, you could still download mp3s - especially if the music is niche, or maybe bandcamp-bought or something - and put it up on file-sharing sites. Either way, a fun way to gift it to them is to put the link up to one of those QR code generators and then print out the code and give it to them along a pretty gift card, in an envelope! So it could take them directly to the link without spoiling the surprise.

Scrapbook! This one could be a little costlier because of how much printing photos can cost, but it also doesnt have to be too thick of a book. There are some art&craft stores that carry empty albums meant for scrapbooks, but to be honest, you could also make them on their own by buying cardstock, punching holes in them and then tying the pages together with pretty ribbon or rope or whatever (just make sure it's easy to open). It's also one of those things that seem difficult to make if you're not artsy, but to be honest, there doesn't have to be much drawing included. If you're better with words, you could write poems and print them out and glue the pics of two of you next to them. If not, you could just buy a bunch of magazines (I usually get the discounted fashion magazines, like vogue) and cut them up to make little collages.

it took me three hours to make the list of names post. im pretty stupid with tech so that made it take longer but here's a list of the shenanigans

finding the names. ''list of all names'' only revealed posts that were far to hard to copy, so i had to look elsewhere. ''list of names download'' got me a pdf of 32,469 popular girl names.

now i could work with that.

so i spent a long time trying to highlight all the names. text editor crashed midway.

i found a way to convert the names to plain text so i did that, thinking there would be some way to copy it from downloads.

there was not.

i opened it and tried to copy the names again, hoping for the best. text editor crashed midway.

i downloaded bear (a documents app ive worked with before that has a copy text button.) and hoped for the best. lo and behold, i could open the plain text document in bear and then copy it with a single link. here we go! we can post it now!

so i copied it onto the post. but

i had now scrolled to the end of the names multiple times. that wasnt the name at the end, i scrolled all the way through (again) to double check it. for some reason, not all the names were on the post.

and, in my stupidest moment, i decided i wanted all of them.

all of the names had line breaks between them, so maybe that was fucking it up? i ran it through a paragraph and line break remover, which made it much easier to work with document, and opened it in bear, copied it, pasted it onto the post again.

a little icon popped up saying tumblr only allows 4,096 characters per block. that was a problem. i had no way to deal with that problem.

i futzed around a bit trying to get it to work, and soon realized i could not get all these names to fit without automation.

so i needed to break up the names into seperate files. how many names? 32,469. how long was the character limit? 4,069. those numbers divided into eachother? roughly 8.

easy peasy. i find something that breaks text into seperate files, seperate it into 9 files, forget what a folder is and think the converter didnt work, remember what a folder is, open all the files in bear, label them 1 through 9, and copy and paste the first one.

tumblr notifies me that it has a 4,096 character limit per block.

it didnt work. did i use the wrong number of files? did i copy the wrong thing? did i- OH FOR FUCKS SAKE 32,469 IS THE NUMBER OF NAMES NOT CHARACTERS I DID MY MATH WRONG IN THE FIRST PLACE

it's fixable. you can see how many characters there are in a doc in bear. i mustve deleted the plain text without line breaks so i had to do that again. time to check the characters

i then decided to go to bed and leave the work of running the file through the break-into-multiple-files converter, opening all of those files in bear and numbering them 56 times, copy-pasting every file into a new block in tumblr 56 times and then posting and desperately hoping tumblr doesnt crash to my future self.

i, unfortunatly, am my future-self-turned-present-self. it is now 6:14 est, and i will update this once more when i have finished making the post.

can you please link us some tutorials on how to make good gifs? not as good as yours of course but decent ones!

im very late to this im sorry ! and yes i could link you to some tutorials but i thought if thats okay i could just make my own, on how i make my gifs ! this might take a while so bare with me please

here's what we'll make (it's a gif!)

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

1. potplayer

2. adobe photoshop (any works, i have the 2020 one)

3. please like/reblog if this was useful !

1. POTPLAYER

you might see that most people use kmplayer, and i used to use that as well but last year, for some reason, it stopped working for me so i changed to potplayer.

so, you'll need a video file first, and id recommend always using 1080p or 720p unless you truly can't find what you want in that size. why? because both of those sizes are best as they have better quality and your gifs will look better. tip: the bigger the file size the even better quality itll have (i can't bother downloading 40GB files so i always just use small ones, it still works fine for me)

when you have your file, you open it with potplayer, choose the scene you want to gif and click ctrl + g to pull up a little window which will make your screencaps for your gifs.

this is how the window looks like:

in storage you choose which folder you want the frames to go to. the format i use is png because it has the higher quality, always choose original size and the rest you can just copy from me. then you click a button bellow all of this that says start and once you're done you can click again on that button to stop.

theres another method i used back when i was starting to gif, that doesnt need any other app and its just on ps, but frankly i dont think that method is good at all.

2. ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

now that you have all you need to make your gifs, lets start making them !

open photoshop and load the files needed for the gif.

to load the files i use load multiple DICOM files, BUT, for newer versions of photoshop this won't work as DICOM files are not png, or jpeg... i was only able to make it work cause i had an older version of ps and copied the file that would allow this to work to my newer version. most people use load files into stack which is how i will teach you how to make your gifs. the difference between these two options is that the DICOM one loads your files in order while with the into stack one you will have to do an extra step which i find very annoying.

select load files into stack.

then you click browse, select the folder where your pngs are and just select all of them. click ok and they will slowly load. once they're done loading you will see the picture above again this time will all of the files on the rectangle and you can click ok. theyll start appearing on photoshop.

now onto the gif making, finally !

your timeline will look like this:

click create video timeline and then you'll have your files stacked in a vertical manner. on the bottom left corner of your timeline you have a 3 square icon called create frame animation. click that.

now you will have one frame only on your timeline, but that won't make a gif so, you will go to the upper right corner of the timeline, select the 3 line icon and click on make frames from layers.

there, all your frames are loaded, but, they're on the wrong order so you will once again click on the 3 line icon > select all frames and once they're all selected you will again, click on the 3 line icon > reverse frames. this time they're in the correct order.

now let's crop our gif and resize it.

go to the crop tool and click it.

crop it around to how you want it to look like. i always use the same crops which is why i saved them as presets on ps so its easier, as i just have to click the one i want and i don't need to keep guessing how to size it so all the gifs look the same.

once your gif is cropped go to image > click image size and a window will appear:

depending on the gifset you want to make, there are different dimensions you should choose so your gif is shown with better quality. here's a guide on the best dimensions for tumblr (the crop has nothing to do with this, you can choose any crop you want and as long as the sizes are these it'll look fine):

choose the type of gifset you want and on width change the number to 540px, 268px or 177/178px (the height will be calculated by ps automatically so you don't need to touch that).

now that your gif is resized you will notice that your frames are all still selected, and you will need them that way to change the seconds of your frames (basically each frame will last a limited amount of seconds until the next frame comes on your gif).

with all your frames selected just click on the arrow next to 0 secs > other and a window will appear (any frame works as long as they're all selected, remember that!).

type how many seconds you want the delay to be, most gif makers use between 0.05, but i personally prefer 0.07 seconds. click ok.

right bellow the frames on your timeline you'll notice an arrow that has the word "once" or "3 times" right next to it. click on the arrow > forever (this way your gif will loop forever, otherwise it'll work once and then stop)

color your gif using the adjustments available.

lastly we will sharpen our gif so it looks extra crispy.

on the layers section of your ps, click on the first frame and then press shift. while pressing shift scroll down until the last frame and click. now all your layers are selected (except your adjustments!).

with all your layers selected look at your timeline once again and on the bottom left you will notice a small icon "convert to video timeline". click it (your layers have to be selected!).

go to filter > convert to smart filters and you will have a smart filter layer (where all your frames are put together). with that layer selected go once again to filter > sharpen > smart sharpen. choose your options to how you want to sharpen your gif. try not to have your radius too big or your gif will look weird !

and we're done ! now you just have to save it. go to file > export > save for web.

This is a post on the cheating accusations around dream mostly surrounding his response video.

SO I’ve been doing a lot of digging into what dream has said in his response to Geosquare’s original video and report, which was compiled and conducted by the Minecraft Java mods on speedrun.com.

I won’t talk about that original report in detail, but basically: the mods came to the conclusion that Dream had a 1 in 7.5 trillion chance of getting the pearl bartering rates and the blaze drop odds that he did within the 6 streams he did. As in, someone would need that luck to replicate what dream got. Therefore, he cheated.

I’m going to put this into a sort of ‘point form’ in according to topic, attempting to put it in chronological order.

Dream’s Initial Tweets

Ok so first like. these are bad. these tweets are what he said (on twitter, excluding in the speedrunning discord) directly after the video was Uploaded to Geo’s channel.

worth noting he did apologize later, although i wanted to talk about these two instances so i felt the need to include it.

there’s a lot of interesting wording in the apology tweet itself too. I personally find that when he apologizes he tends to still be very subtextually angry in them with the tone, but more specifically. where he says ‘although i have reason to be upset’, that’s kinda weak and really unneeded. Alongside the ‘intense criticism’, it reads as him trying to say he’s still in the right. kind of like “im sorry i was rude even though I had reason to be rude’. Its an apology sure but he’s not saying sorry for how he really reacted; its justified to him.

Dream’s Response Video

Dream posted a response on his side channel DreamXD on the 22nd, along with the report he had a supposed astrophysicist conduct. I’m going to talk about the report separately from the video for reasons I’ll explain.

Frankly, the video doesn’t really summarize or explain the report in a meaningful way. At most, it takes some points from it but tends to twist the numbers around, misunderstand the probability and math, and also what the report itself concludes.

Essentially, dream’s video insists that the numbers found by the mods are wrong and therefore he didn’t cheat at all, yet the report concludes that the numbers found by the mods weren’t entirely accurate, however they’re still extremely unlikely. This is also all under the assumption that the report is entirely correct (ill say how its not next)

His first point is that only his 1.16 run (that was at 5th place two months ago, would have now been 16th) was deemed cheated. This is true; the mods have said that he isnt banned outright and theres no reason to question the legitimacy of his 1.15 runs.

He also concludes that Geo’s statement that Dream didn’t cooperate with them, and that he deleted 1.16 mod folders, was false. This one is a little more complicated. It could more be chalked up to a miscommunication, although it’s relevant. Geosquare posted screenshots of the specific conversation they had:

Essentially it wasn’t entirely clear, i can understand how geo and the mods interpreted it in such a way. Altho April added in a quote retweet thread that dream didn’t supply the folder she asked for, so he didn’t supply everything they asked for like he states in the video

Essentially: yeah, misleading and weird on both ends. I dont think this is really anything quantifiable, although dream talked about this in the video heavily.

Out of this though, Geo DID correct himself in the description of the mods’ video. Dream shows this in his own response, but it crops out some of what geo says. here’s from dream’s video

that Update 2 is where he corrects himself. literally why the fuck would you crop it like this and put it in the video i mean this looks so weird and genuinely doesnt provide anything. Here’s what geo actually said

Dream specifically cut it before the line where geo mentions how he said he deleted his specific 1.16 speedrun profile. This one is just so dumb to me. I’d say ‘why not include that’ but either i feel its a) so there’s no potential for people to say what he had actually said could be interpreted otherwise easily or b) doesnt want people to know he got so upset he deleted files (ego wise yknow). Again, I dont think this is definitive of anything but god. it feels scummy lmao

The Video: Incorrect Representation of His Own Report

Dream straight up doesnt present the report’s numbers properly. In fact it makes the entirety of his visuals forfeit, i.e. the gold block analogy that goes on for like 20 minutes.

The mods said his luck was 1/7.5 trillion. Dream’s report says its 1/10 million (with the addition of 5 other streams) or 1/100 million (only the 6 streams).

I’ll only consider the 1/10 mil odds, since its all dream really brings up. but Basically; there’s not much difference between 1/10 million and 1/7.5 trillion.

Dream says that the difference is 7.5 trillion minus 10 million, aka 7.4999 trillion. This is what his entire visual with the gold blocks is based on. This is absolutely incorrect, i cant stress that enough.

You can’t find the difference of fractions by subtracting only the denominators. Like. this is elementary school math. it just doesnt work.

It’d actually be calculated as: (1/10 000 000) - (1/7 500 000 000 000) = (74999/7 500 000 000 000)

If the mods are wrong, they’re only wrong by 749999/7.5 trillion. that’s literally only 0.000000099999866666667.

Dream no doubt saw the numbers, considered 10 million vs. 7.5 trillion, and used these big numbers to hold his own point. PROBABILITY DOESNT WORK LIKE THAT. I really think he was just taking advantage of the seemingly big numbers here and wrote it out in a way that favoured him. The gold block analogy in the video played throughout the entire video practically, jokes were made on it, and he made a point of it being ‘so big the game crashed’.

It’s just plain wrong. even so a difference in the odds doesnt prove shit. He’s downplaying his own odds that he found too. 1/10 million isnt a small number. Even though the legitimacy of that calculation is in question, it is still significant enough to proclaim he cheated.

Some quick points before I move onto the report; these aren’t as significant in my eyes but it adds to the picture

there’s been criticism of his joking manor throughout the entire video, very specifically the Bill Nye joke. Considering he doesnt actually have a name to provide for his astrophysicist, this joke doesnt feel right

the mod he had a voice clip from (willz) even believes that he cheated and has agreed with the mod team the whole time.

Dream never has a name for the mod who is apparently on his side (more understandable), the minecraft developer he quoted, or the astrophysicist (most damning)

Dream states that fabric is used by most speedrunners which is true, but fabric and fabric API are different; dream also had the latter installed. my knowledge of how theyre different is limited, all i really know is the API is what can enable editing of the code while fabric is more a modloader. im not entirely sure on this

Dream has said at the end of the video that all funds will go to the mod team so they can make a client that will regulate cheaters. this has been noted as feeling manipulative or like a ‘bribe’, but it definitely puts the mods in a bad position.

either they accept it and look like they ‘gave in’ to dream and therefore acknowledge him in the right

they deny it and look selfish/taking dream’s kindness for granted

geo said they would insist it goes to a charity instead

Dream constantly disregards the mods as young, inexperienced, ‘just volunteers’ etcetcetc, despite the fact that theyre analysis has been discussed by people with confirmed PhDs without much criticism

Dream’s Report

The report itself is extremely interesting, in that it’s very questionable, but even so it doesn’t come to the conclusion that dream didn’t cheat. The tone between the video and the report is drastically different.

This is from the “3. What are the goals of this document?” section:

It essentially says this isnt intended, from the very beginning, to completely exonerate dream of cheating. Also note that the author says the mods’ report was mostly correct.

This is at the end of “9 Conclussions”:

It does notably say cheating isnt the only explanation, but it doesnt actually go as far to say that it’s not possible that he cheated.

But this can be argued to not matter if we consider the validity of the report as a whole

Dream’s Report: Criticisms

Possibly the first and most known debunking of the report is by u/mfb on reddit, although there’s been much more such as this programmer criticizing the code provided at the end of the report (partially due to how the author of it stated that piglins barter 4-7 pearls, which is incorrect: it’s 4-8), Andrew Gelman, an actual statistician professor from harvard, commented on the original mods’ report as ‘impressive’ while Dream’s report is being regarded as something funny in the comments, and even analysis of dream’s behaviours and his argument by a law student

But what u/mfb posted is what i’ll focus on. Some background into the user; he’s a particle physicist, is moderator in subreddits like r/cosmology and r/astrophysics, he’s regarded as a reliable source on r/askscience and r/askreddit. Basically, multiple other people have vouched for him and before all this he had many posts in these fields.

that’s already better than the unnamed astrophysicist.

The post is better speaking for itself but here is a few exerpts from it;

Essentially, the report’s methods are debunked by u/mfb-, alongside that a moderator of r/statistics regarded the report as ‘nonsensical in its application of statistics’ and linked to u/mfb-’s comment.

i’m going to end this here. Partially because severe backpain or whatever,.

but I want to say at this point its practically definitive that dream cheated, that he lied to us, and that he continues to do so. Much more could be said on his video such as his tone, intentions, the overt emphasis on the ‘biases’ of the mods.

I havent even mentioned that the ‘astrophysicist’ themself may be a scam; they are sourced from a website that is extremely sketchy, has no names attached to it, and was created less than a year ago (with practically no traffic on it until maybe a month ago).

But i hope this is coherent. I have interest in this so if theres questions im always open.

For this gif tutorial I’m going to try to keep it as basic as possible, I may add a few tips for coloring at the end, but for the most part this is going to be how I make my basic gif. Also I’m not going to use my vapoursynth to process the video beforehand, just because I know not everyone uses it and it’s harder to learn. This is going to be just a downloaded mp4 video through the gif process. Don’t let the idea that this is a BASIC TUTORIAL fool you, I’m going to try to teach you a lot of things. It’s gonna get wordy, but i will try my hardest to keep the process easy. I’m just going to explain what things do instead of having you just copy + paste my method and not know what it means. okay? okay.

Before we start though, if you plan of giffing live stages you either need to accept the they will not be super crisp and clear OR learn how to use avisynth/vapoursynth to resize the videos without quality loss.

If you just want to gif music videos or variety shows then this should still give you HQ gifs.

Other notes:

try to ONLY use 1080p and up video if possible, maybe 720p if you’re really desperate, but anything under that... it’s not going to look good at all, so try to avoid using them.

The Photoshop I am using is PS 2020, so all my screenshots will be from that version and with my weird set up. But I’ve been using pretty much the same method since cc 2015 so other than the fact that some placements and names are tweaked, it’s the same. (If you can’t find something on your version shoot me an ask and I’ll try to help! And asks I get on this tutorial I’ll link HERE for future reference)

CUTTING VIDEO

To cut videos I’ll just use my quicktime player.

I use edit > trim to select the portion of the video I plan to gif and save that as it’s own new mov file.

which pops up this tab

that you just slide until the part you want to gif is selected

then just save it as a new video and your done with part 1

ENTER PHOTOSHOP

Now what we’ll do is open our photoshop and import that clip into layers

FILE > IMPORT > VIDEO FRAMES TO LAYERS and select your video.

A small pop up will appear to show the clip you’re opening, you can trim it further here or just keep going by clicking okay

my setup is weird for drawing BUT you should have it looking remotely like this:

The things you will DEFINITELY need to see are TIMELINE, LAYERS, ADJUSTMENTS. If you don’t have these sections you can add them to your screen by clicking on the WINDOW tab at the very top menu bar and clicking on them

LAYERS - this is pretty self explanatory but each row is a layer in the gif. the more layers the bigger the gif will end up, the longer it plays. So bigger clips will have more layers and end up as larger gifs in the end.

TIMELINE - This is where you can edit the gifs timing (make it faster or slower)

We’ll be doing a bit of work with it so it’s important to know it well

ADJUSTMENTS - Best friend and worst nightmare. this is where ALL the tedious recoloring is done. VERY rarely would you not use these. 99.9% of kpop things are filmed through a green or blue lense so you’ll want to fix that to not have ghost idols

So, Let’s make a gif

Step 1 - In the top right corner of your timeline is a set of lines, click there and then click SELECT ALL FRAMES

under each frame is a time stamp (this video’s is 0.04) this decides how fast each clip goes by, or how quickly the gif moves. Personally I prefer slower gifs, but I say anywhere between 0.04-0.06 is a decent speed.

Step 2 - with all the frames selected, click on the small down arrow next to any of the frames and change the speed to your liking. (I’m going to use .06)

Step 3 - in that same tab of lines we’ll now click CONVERT TO VIDEO TIMELINE, which will change our Timeline to look like this:

Step 4 - Back in our very TOP menu we’ll click SELECT > ALL LAYERS, then on the TOP menu click FILTER > CONVERT FOR SMART FILTERS (this might take your computer a minute since our File is still pretty large.) Now our Time line will look like this:

Step 5 - Sharpening

This one is VERY MUCH something you’re going to have to play with to get your settings to be how you like them. It’s also where I’d use topaz adjustments, BUT since I said we’re doing basic PS gif we’re just going to be using smart sharpening. SO:

in the TOP munu again, click FILTER > SHARPEN > SMART SHARPEN

A pop up window will appear and you can edit the settings to your liking. Mine:

Step 6 - Resize your gif or crop it to tumblrs standards: big singal gifs have a 540px width || Two gifs use 268px || and three gifs use 177/178px

To do this we’ll use the crop tool and type in our dimensions in the menu bar:

and then crop to your liking. (this doesnt resize the gif it just crops to the correct ratio so we still have to shrink the gif)

Next, we’ll resize the gif to that size in the TOP menu click IMAGE > IMAGE SIZE a pop up menu will appear and you’ll type in your resize ratio and click enter.

Now technically thats a gif. it’s TECHNICALLY done. but mine is white washed and there are words on it that I dont want so onto the coloring and blurring.

First I’m going to show you how I blur text on gifs. because text is EVERYWHERE in kpop content and it’s hideous and I hate it. so lets kill it.

BLURRING LETTERING

First we’re going to add a new blank layer to our LAYER TAB by clicking the little box with the + inside at the bottom

Sometimes doing this can mess up the timeline’s selection but its SUPER easy to fix so lets do that.

So in our timeline we have these two bars on each side that select what part of the gif will play. this is also where you can readjust your gif if it has extra frames at the end, or it ends up being too large and you have to make the gif smaller to save it. Just click and drag the bars back to where our gif actually ends, and all is fixed!

Now on our new layer we’re gonna take a paint brush (one of the ones with a lot of fade NOT the solid circle ) and paint over where the words are like so:

MAKE SURE ITS ON OUR BLANK LAYER AND NOT THE GIF LAYER!!

I know it looks stupid but trust me okay.

Now in your LAYER tab we’re going to duplicate our gif layer by right clicking on it and selecting duplicate.

Then we’re going to drag the new gif layer so that it’s above the paint layer in our LAYER tab :

Now, right click on the top gif layer and select CREATE CLIPPING MASK. it should put a little down arrow to the left of the picture, toward the paint layer. This means the gif is ONLY visible where that paint is now.

So we’re going to click on FILTER in the TOP menu again (while we still have that top gif selected!) and Go to BLUR > GAUSSIAN BLUR. a pop up menu will appear and you can just drag the radius until the text is as blurry as you want it to be. (also IF you missed part of the text, you can just go add more paint to your paint layer and it will blur wherever you paint!)

so now my gif is like so:

So now we’ll color him, because he’s pretty washed out.

ADJUSTMENTS

This is where I’m going to be the least specific about what I do and more about what tools do, so that you can learn how to color things the way you like them!

The Adjustment tab on Photoshop has 16 options but I’m really only going to talk about 6 of them. We’ll do it in order though. All the actual adjustment tools will open in the PROPERTIES tab

Brightness / Contrast - Pretty self explanatory, but definitely should be toward the end of your coloring, as if can effect the quality a lot. Small adjustments do A LOT so don’t go crazy,

Levels - Levels is all about the balance of how dar or light your gifs will be if you adjust in the RGB layer it will adjust for the entire image, but if you change the selection to RED/GREEN/BLUE it will adjust just those colors hues. Also there are three small droppers to the left of the graph. using those you can select which part of the gif you want the image to recognize as the lightest/darkest part of the gif, and the tool will adjust the gifs coloring to that point. ( play with those droppers! magic happens i swear!)

Curves - Kind of like levels but instead of how light or dark the entire image is it works more on contrast. REALLY play with the curves options, i’m sure most things you can do with other tools can also just be done in curves if you’re patient enough to learn

Vibrance / Saturation - Vibrance will make duller parts of an image higher contract and brighter and saturation will make everything a more neon shade. or in reverse lowering vibrance will dull out the things that were already neutral and saturation will dull out the more vibrant parts of the image (usually reds)

Color Balance - Good for fixing tones. so if a live stage is SUPER BLUE!!!!! you can readjust and calm down the blues to dull them out or get rid of them completely. Again play with this its insane what it can do

Selective Color - adjusts the different colors in your image without touching the other colors. if you wanna touch the reds, make them pinker but not change the blues and greens, you do it here

If you want MORE drawn out explanations of what each of the 16 adjustment layers do here and here are actual articles you can look at. But it’s all about practice. playing with all the adjustments alone and together. Finding out what you like to do!

Now when you gif is ALLLLL colored and you’re ready to save it we do FILE > EXPORT > SAVE FOR THE WEB and a whole new window of options pops up. I’ll give you two examples of how to play with those options and then we’re done!

keep in MIND tumblr’s gif limit is 10MB which is pretty huge now, but still watch your gif size!!!!

AND SAVE your done!

OHOHO. hey hi ily. this is, of course, one of odo’s deepest ongoing battles, and the moment he stops questioning it is the moment he becomes a founder.

the founders grant themselves god status. GOD! status. they just reach out and pluck it. Within their range of power, the founders become unquestionably Just and Virtuous and Moral, their Word becomes Law, it becomes “the way things are” and “fact” and they create their own reality stemming from thousands of years of intense xenophobia. they’re above it all. gods don’t make mistakes, right? sure, maybe changelings were hunted and feared ages ago but they still fear it, and that drive for Order and Control over the galaxy is now encoded into their genes and they place a companion structure into the genes of every other species they control, subjugating them to the founders’ own cozy position as Gods, or-- ‘gods’. the founder (i rly don’t like saying “female” founder so she’s THE Founder. she speaks for the link.) makes it quite clear on many occasions that the founders are not here to negotiate. they fully intend to control EVERYTHING at any cost. it is absolutely chilling when she cuts garak down with: “they’re dead. you’re dead. cardassia is dead.” and draws the line between the dominion and everyone else miles deep into the sand.

that same genetic coding is one of the first semi-concrete things odo comes to understand about himself and, horribly, he’s landed into conditions under the occupation that very easily could have taken advantage of a less meticulous or stubborn changeling. no, odo says initially (and incorrectly), i am not bajoran** and i am not cardassian and i stand apart from either side of this conflict and so i am bound to PURE Virtue and Morality because of it. he can’t be bribed or bought or won over, and he won’t allow for anything less than a kind of incorruptibility. this effectively wins him allies (and enemies) on both sides, however -- that’s just not how the universe works. the truth of it is that no matter how much he tells himself he is not a part of their regime, his working with the cardassians makes him a collaborator in that he has then recognized their authority and ultimately upheld their legitimacy, even if he never agreed with the cause, even if he was also on some level a casualty of it. at some point when he moves past ‘contract’ investigation and begins to work permanently, he falls into the trap of thinking Order is the same thing as Justice... huge yikes. in that moment he becomes a true and apathetic villain, but he’s subsequently haunted by the resulting execution of innocents. it shakes something up in him. years pass and he still wonders, what other mistakes has he made? what other less direct consequences of his ‘neutral’ arbitration exist? he (and everyone around him) has to live without really knowing, and it’s a constant reminder to him of the power he holds and it informs his understanding of what Real (and imperfect) Justice Means.

**sidenote but later in s7 he introduces himself as ‘from bajor’ and AAAAAA. its good. very good. yeah, you’re bajoran, odo. he gets it now.

Mirror odo is really the ultimate example of an odo having taken those instincts to extremes in an environment that rewarded him for them -- there is no guilt there, and even a sadistic kind of pleasure in it. i’d argue that gaia!odo is another, less extreme example of an odo who’s been alone too long and lost sight of things when he single-mindedly (and against kira’s wishes) chooses her (one person) over 8000. like holy shit? NOT ok? uhhuhhhhfff. anyway. very fortunately, neither of these are OUR odo, but act as great foils to reflect on the worst (bastard cop) qualities or potential qualities of our goo pushed to highly visible extremes, which star trek just loves to do all the time.

but regular/prime odo isnt exactly a rule-follower, either. throughout his life, he frequently takes things into his own hands, uses his abilities to his advantage, spies, wiretaps, eavesdrops, and yes, harasses [quark] sometimes -- he develops his own set of values and personal rules and follows them; even starfleet comes in wary of him and how he operates and hes on thin ice. but because of possibly his most redeeming quality, odo is able to adapt those self-ordained values toward something increasingly honest: for how rigid he can be in personality, he is HIGHLY influenced by the world around him, listens hard to what his friends and allies have to say and adapts that feedback; this allows him to evolve and grow and take important matters to heart. he becomes more flexible and better able to hold onto what’s really most important after locking into a decision, because above all else, he is passionately committed to doing the Right Thing. he PLEADS with himself in things past, “your job is to find the truth, not obtain convictions.” by his tendency to push back against what is laid down as ‘law’ (something he becomes more and more aware of and effective at doing) as not always being good or right, or necessarily even creating Order (the thing he’s driven genetically to want), he prepares himself to challenge the most deadly voice of authority -- that of his own people.

so... yes and no. odo’s role and persona as ‘your average security chief’ might dictate that he be virtuous and moral, but he so obviously can’t fit the same exact mold as others in his position -- he has these insane abilities and this mind-consuming nature and it requires he tread with extra care, but he also has a potential for more adaptive, more nuanced morality. he has to build up his own definitions to the words, constantly examine and tease and test them, or else he risks straying too far from what he really wants to achieve -- harmony, honest justice. he has to accept that he’s a part of the system he operates in (not, in fact, alone or isolated! something he actually wants), and know that he is not exempt from making the wrong choice, just like anybody else.

carnation: what is your muse’s relationship with their gender? how do they express or not express this relationship?

ODO AND GENDER!!! i love odo and gender. let’s take this one step at a time. he starts out as an amorphous glob -- he has no gender. there’s no basis for assignment, no culture of difference, and all the goos are goo. odo takes on the shape of the first living thing he sees / the thing he sees most frequently: dr mora. he adopts an image of masculinity from mora and he adopts the hair. that’s about it, and it’s pretty much arbitrary. (maybe the hair is simple enough for his skills, too?) the next people odo meets are also these very masculine, military, cardassian leaders, so again -- this is all he knows! this is neutrality. i imagine it takes him some time to work out what the differences in gender are, and sex, and orientation, romantic vs sexual stuff, all of that. it’s all got cultural baggage he knows nothing about and does not experience, and he’s also dealing with multiple, clashing cultures to boot. since he doesnt have any strong inherent leaning, he simply opts out. he/him becomes his default because thats where he started, thats what he’s been able to successfully present and how people know him, and, terrifyingly, under cardassian rule, it probably offered a bit of safety, too, which was obviously something he needed at the time.

way way way way way down the line in season seven, odo asks kira to (paraphrasing) look at me. what do you see? [i see you.] but this is NOT me, this is only a shape ive assumed in order to fit in. she says, yes, i know that. but this is who you have chosen to be. “a man. a good and honest man.” (i knowww shes not really talking abt gender here BUT) its hard as a trans person not to read the metaphor. he’s chosen to express SOMETHING. he’s chosen something other than what he was given (neutrality) and although he doesnt personally buy into what ‘masculinity’ “should be” (ie the ferengi, smh) / would certainly not argue he doesnt feel non-binary, this is how he has presented all his life, its how hes been treated, and it is what he has chosen to adhere to. there’s a choice in that, kira’s right, and now it reflects something about him.

parallel this, i’ll mention the “female” founder again bc of course there is no discernable reason for her to have a gender -- other than to appeal (im not talking sexually here although there’s,, obviously weird shit happening with the link... yike) to odo in the sense that until that point odo has lived with “gendered” individuals and, i think importantly, kira is with them when they first meet. i think its safe to say the founder saw her, figured she was a friend/ally to odo or at least familiar to him, and took her general representation to appeal as a friend/ally.

otherwise... why, honestly? the founder’s got NO love of humanoids lmao why would she bother.

anyway i’d like to see odo experiment a bit. because when hes safe, he can!! aside from his own doubts and insecurities about shapeshifting, at some point he really has no reason not to, at least a little bit. really, it should just be another thing to practice, much like becoming a convincing rock or a leaf, its just that there are other significances in the cultures around him. i’d just like to see him loosen up a little. have fun. grow ur hair out a bit, odo, why are u still looking like ur terrible dad.

He just clenches his jaw and ignores it as best he can.

Things are worse at school. The amount of PDA is through the roof and he can feel so many eyes on him. Peter just ducks his head and walks as fast as he can to his locker. He swings it open angrily, startling when something falls onto his feet from inside. When Peter looks down he finds a rose. A red rose just fell out of his locker. Peter picks the flower up curiously, turning it to read the small note attached to it.

From your secret admirer.

What?

He inspects the note for any sign of who gave it to him but finds nothing. It could have been Harley. Peter dismisses that thought quickly. Harley doesn’t think of him that way. Peter’s head snaps up from the rose when he sees Flash and his cronies making their way down the hallway. Peter’s heart speeds up and he quickly looks back down at the flower. It’s a prank. Again. Just like last year. Peter fights off the angry tears that start to fill his eyes. Whoever is doing this to him just wants to see a reaction. So Peter won’t give him one.

He tucks the rose into his backpack and hurries to class. But Peter comes to a stop when he sees his desk. In the middle of it is a pink sticky note and a bar of his favorite chocolate. He picks them up as he sinks into his seat, reading the note.

You are so beautiful, Peter. You make my heart stop when you walk into a room. -SA

A small smile crosses Peter’s face. But it disappears when the door to the class opens and the rest of the class begins to file in. Peter quickly hides them in his backpack. Whoever this is can’t be serious. Peter’s been the victim of too many cruel pranks to think this is true.

He keeps his head down and his arms wrapped around his stomach for the rest of the class. He doesn’t want to give whoever sent these the chance to see how the words make his heart flutter.

“Are you okay?” Harley asks him during the next class, leaning across the aisle.

Peter nods sharply. His mood only got worse when he received another note a gift at the start of this class. The small gift had been a toy penguin, his favorite animal. And the note had said:

I love the way you smile when you understand something new. -SA

Peter hates that it made him happy. Words from a bully, from someone who is just gearing him up for disappointment, shouldn’t make him this happy. He quickly shoved them into his bag. He didn’t want Harley to see. Harley, the boy he’s been crushing on for over a year, will never be allowed to know the humiliation Peter is going through.

“I’m fine,” Peter hisses.

He hates the way Harley looks dejected as he turns away. Peter trains his eyes on the front of the class but doesn’t listen to what the teacher is saying. It doesn’t matter. As he zones out, he imagines a world in which these gifts and notes came from Harley. He pictures Harley memorizing his schedule, leaving class early to plant the gift in his next class, perfectly planning each gift to make Peter blush. At the end of the day, Harley would pull him aside and tell him that he was his secret admirer and then he would take Peter’s face in his hands and kiss him. Peter would thank him shyly for the presents. Harley would smile his lopsided smile that makes Peter’s heart flutter. Then Harley would bite his lip and look at Peter like-

No.

Peter won’t let that go any farther.

It’s not Harley.

The class drones on but Peter can’t get Harley out of his mind. At least it’s a welcome distraction.

He can almost feel Harley’s rough hands combing through his hair, pulling him closer and closer-

Stop.

Peter forces himself out of his fanciful daydream. He doesn’t even acknowledge Harley when the bell rings, dismissing them to lunch. Harley calls his name, but Peter doesn’t turn around. MJ has always said he’s never been a good liar and Mr. Stark always tells him he wears his heart on his sleeve. So he won’t look at Harley. Not when his mind is still mulling over those stupid notes.

All Peter can hope for is a normal lunch. No flowers or notes or gifts. But sure enough on their table in the lunchroom is a red rose and a small note. MJ, who is already sitting, fixes him with a questioning look. Peter throws himself down on the bench and looks pleadingly with MJ. “Help me.”

She quirks a brow, “What?”

“I keep getting these stupid notes and stupid flowers from someone,” Peter whines.

“That’s a problem because...?”

“Because it’s not real!” Peter exclaims. “Because this is obviously a prank and I’m just waiting for whoever is doing this to me to laugh at me and say it was all a joke.”

MJ sighs, “Peter. Has it occurred to you that this may not be a joke? Maybe someone really likes you.”

“MJ. Do you remember last year?” A dark look crosses over her face and Peter knows she is replaying the same horrible memories as him. “Yeah. I’m not falling for this again.”

He stuffs the rose into his backpack, eyes quickly reading the note against his will.

I love the way your hair looks in the sunshine. -SA

Peter’s eye catches on Harley walking over to them so he quickly tells MJ, “Don’t tell Harley.”

“Why?”

“MJ. Please. Don’t.” Peter begs.

MJ nods quickly. Harley smiles when he sits down, “Hey guys. Where’s Ned?”

“Eating lunch with Betty,” Peter points to where Ned and Betty are cuddled up at a different table. He sighs and tears his sandwich in two. “I hate Valentine’s Day.”

Harley frowns, “Really? It seems like something you would be all over.”

Peter shakes his head, “Nope.” Harley throws a look at MJ who just shakes her head, ending the conversation. Peter doesn’t say much all of lunch. Harley and MJ carry on a conversation about some book they read. Then Peter’s phone dings.

Harley: You sure you’re okay?

Peter: I’m fine.

Harley: You don’t seem fine

Peter: I. Am. Fine.

Peter feels bad, but he doesn’t want Harley to know what happened last year and how it’s happening again this year. It’s too humiliating.

After lunch, Peter hurries to his next class. Maybe if he gets there fast enough his “secret admirer” won’t have time to leave him anything. But he’s out of luck because there on his desk waiting for him is a note and another chocolate.

He crumples the note up and shoves it into his bag. Why can’t his awful day just be over already?

The next class is exactly the same. He finds another note on his desk:

I have never loved someone as much as I love you, Peter Parker. -SA

Peter hates those words. He is so distracted by the feeling the words give him that he doesn’t notice Flash walk in. “What’s that, Penis?” Flash asks as he leers over Peter. Peter quickly crushes the note into his fist.

“None of your business, Flash,” Peter bites.

That makes a horrible smirk cross his face, “Is that a valentine?” Flash laughs, turning to his friends, “I wonder who sent it? I mean, I can’t think of a single person who wouldn’t take a dead animal over you.”

Normally Flash’s half baked insults wouldn’t hurt Peter this much, but between all of his intense feelings and thoughts today, he can’t help the pain that erupts in his chest. Thankfully the teacher starts class before Flash can say anything more.

The entire time his heart rate won’t die down. He replays the words from the note over and over again in his mind. I love you. That’s what the note said.

I love you.

Peter allows himself a small smile. Even if it’s a lie, the words are nice to hear. But in all honesty, he just wants this day to end. He wants to go home and cry until he passes out.

The second the final bell ring, Peter rushes to his locker. He gets there before the hall fills with students running through the front doors. He tries to throw his books in as fast as possible, but something catches his eye. Inside is a note.

Meet me by the football field. -SA

Peter slams his locker shut. He won’t. That’s what happened last year and...

Peter runs.

He runs as fast as he can out of the building and down the street and back to his apartment. Once he’s inside he empties the notes and flowers out on his bed five of them. The same handwriting. All messages of love. Things only someone who really was watching him would know these things. Who could have sent these to him?

Peter has no idea. He crumples them up in his hands and throws them across the room in a shout of rage. He slams his fists on his bed as hard as he can, tears pouring down his cheeks. Why can’t these stupid bullies leave him alone? Allow him a moment of peace? Why do that have to ruin every day for him?

Valentine’s day is supposed to be filled with joy and love and happiness. And instead, Peter spends another year in complete misery and confusion.

He doesn’t know how long he sits there crying, but eventually, the sky grows dark and Peter forces himself out of his bedroom. He wants to get some food, maybe a glass of water, and then go right back to his bedroom and watch tv until he falls asleep.

But just as he walks into the kitchen he hears a knock on his door. Peter frowns and walks over to it, opening it quickly. On the other side is-

“Harley?” Peter breathes. Because there stands Harley. He is soaked to the bone and wearing a black suit, holding a bouquet of red roses.

“Hi,” Harley smiles that same dopey smile Peter loves.

“You’re wet,” Peter acknowledges slowly.

Harley rubs the back of his neck, “Yeah, yeah it’s raining.” They stand there for a moment longer, just looking at each other. “Can I come in?”

Peter nods quickly, “Sorry, yeah, come on in. I’ll get you a towel.” Harley stands in the middle of the doorway as Peter walks to the closet in the bathroom. His heart is beating like a butterfly in his chest. Harley is here. With flowers. Could it be...?

“Here,” Peter extends the towel to Harley who wraps it around his shoulder. “You can come in and sit.” Peter leads Harley into the living room and they sink down onto the couch beside each other, only a few inches between them. After a moment, Peter has to know, “Harley? Why are you here?”

“To make things right.” Harley extends the bouquet of flowers toward Peter. “There are for you.”

“For me?” Peter takes then tentatively.

“Yeah. Look, Peter, I was the one that sent you those notes today.” Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my g- “And I’m sorry if I freaked you out. I just wanted to do something special for you and when you told MJ at lunch she pulled me aside after and told me that I needed to stop what I was doing because I was scaring you because of what happened last year, but at that point, it was too late and...” Harley takes Peter’s hands. “I am so sorry, Peter. I didn’t know. I-I just wanted to show you how much I love about you in a special way. Peter-”

“Harley.” Peter interrupts. Tears are pooled in his eyes. It wasn’t a prank. Someone really thinks about him like that. And that someone is Harley. “I love you too.”

Harley looks up, “You-you do?” Peter nods. Harley wastes no time in pulling Peter into a tight hug. Peter doesn’t even care that Harley is wet and cold because he’s here. He’s here and he loves Peter. When Harley pulls back, Peter brings their foreheads together. “Peter, can I-”

Peter cuts Harley off by tipping his head forward and kissing him. It’s exactly like Peter imagined, excepts Harley’s hands fall to his waist instead of his cheeks. But Peter doesn’t mind one bit. Because it’s so perfect. Harley’s lips are so soft and gentle against his. Peter pulls Harley closer to him, trapping his face in his hands. Harley pulls out of the kiss after a few more seconds, falling against the back of the couch, touching his thumb to his lips.

“Wow,” Peter says, slightly out of breath.

“I wish I did that before I put us through that today,” Harley says, almost in a daze.

“Well, you can do it again,” Peter blushes.

Harley sits up and puts his hands on Peter’s him, “Come here then.”

Peter smiles and leans in. Just before their lips meet Peter whispers, “Happy Valentine’s Day.”

wanted to share one example of how exapunks forces you to find new innovative uses of seemingly mundane instructions. this example stands out because it occured in the very last level which goes to show how this game has surprises and twists and chances for discovering new things right up to the very end.

SO, i had a bunch of exas which were all supposed to communicate with one specific exa. now the problem with that was that i couldnt have them all communicating at the same time or the different messages would get mixed and there was only one channel of communication (the M register) for eleven exas trying to reach a single exa.

i had to make sure they would take turns, in no specific order, just giving each other time to communicate without being interrupted. but they have no way of knowing when the other exas were going to communicate and to try having them all communicate with each other so they could coordinate would have been a nightmare that would have clogged up the M register of comunication even more.

here comes my first thought, i will have them generate a random number and count down from that number until the moment they are ready to deliver the message. since the number is random each should get a different one and that ensures they will wait different spans of time to communicate, if that is cutting it too close i can multiply the random number to put even more distance between one message from another and so ensure that no interruptions take place, brilliant! and what’s more there already is a perfect instruction for that: RAND, you give it a range and it generates a random number within that range, now make the range really big and the chances of a number repeating are basically null, this is perfect!

BUT for some reason there are certain levels in this game where the rand instruction is not allowed to be used, im guessing because it screws up the storygrams which measure how efficient your code was, if you introduce randomness into the mix then there is no real way to determine how much its results fall on your merits as a hacker. why do they even have that instruction in the first place if that is the case? why didnt they just scrap it, if not from the game at least from the zines that explain it to you? i dont know, maybe they caught that late into development and decided to just patch it over, but i digress.

back to the code, i had to find a new way to generate random numbers that wouldnt repeat, how could i do that? well hold on to your hats. the file management system in this game is weird, whenever you create a new file it doesnt allow you to name it, instead it generates an automatic numbered name starting at 400 (why that specific number, again who knows? just like why the links start at 800 and some times they go up and some times they go down*) and going up with each successive file so the first file created in a level will be 400, the next one 401, then 402, etc.... an interesting quirk that i never thought much about. and it just so happens that perusing the zines in a feverish haze, desperatly trying to find anything that could help me with the current level, i found one neat little instruction i never noticed before

FILE N, it allows you to store the name of the file you are currently holding.

now the reason i never much paid any attention to that particular instruction is because you cant grab a file without already knowing its name, and when you create a new file you are already grabbing it, so knowing the name of the files seemed pretty much useless to me. but here it comes to the rescue. the files generate a number (never repeated, mind you) when created and i can access that number! applying some clever math i can distort the numbers further so that they give enough space in each exas countdown and voila! i just improvised a number generator out of ducktape and chicken wire.

and there we go, now the exas could each wait their own turn counting down their own particular number and letting each other make use of the M register without overstepping or interrupting, orderly and civilized like

(*there is a lot of that in the game where pieces of random design choices in the system hint at a possible history beneath, maybe there is a reason in-world why axiom and TEC choose to use multiples of 100 for the important numbers in this system where maybe zachtronics just did it because it looks cool)

So hopefully I should be seeing a therapist soon but there are a few things im dreading. Like I know you're supposed to find the person who's right for you and all that but I dont have time. I'm extremely desperate and losing hope and I just dont want to go through switching ppl a million times. Also I want to get evaluated for anxiety and maybe depression idk and I wanna do it fast but ppl tell me that the therapist will know and tell me if they think I need it. I dont want that. -🐺 [1/?]

I just want everything to be done fast so I can start trying to fix everything. Also how many times is too often to see someone per month? My friend goes once a week which is great. If be down to do that, but im scared my mom wont want me to. She doesnt know they extremes of whats going on with me so she wont see it as necessary. She doesnt know im suicidal and that I hate myself so she wont feel the need for me to go every week. I just don’t know what to do. -🐺 [2/3]

Also I have to wait for her to actually book the appointment which could take a while. She also is skeptical about therapy. I get very ticked off all the time because of a lot of different things and she snapped at me once saying how “therapy wont fix that. You have to” I hate confiding in her for that reason. Shes judgy and cynical and downplays everything I feel by saying “well when I was in school” and blah blah blah. I’m in a terrible place and I dont need all that. -🐺 [3/3]

If you are desperate and afraid you might hurt yourself before you can talk to someone in person, please check out the emergency services at this link.

When you sit down for your first session, or possibly even before, you can make it clear that you would like to be evaluated for anxiety and depression as soon as possible. If they don’t want to help arrange that service, or can’t for some reason, ask them to make a note in your files that it was denied, and why. This is a strategy for working with doctors, but could also work with therapists, that makes them really consider if they want to be the reason you didn’t get what you asked for.

It sounds like you’re worried about having to switch therapists multiple times? Please write back and correct me if I’m wrong. Since the appointment hasn’t been made yet, try to make sure to get booked with a Licensed therapist, a psychologist, or a psychiatrist. Lots of counseling places offer sessions with therapists who are still training, and while that can be helpful, they are limited in what they can do. A licensed therapist will have completed their schooling and be better able to help with any problems you’re having. If you end up needing medicine for anything, you’ll likely need a psychologist or psychiatrist.

I wouldn’t worry too much about potential switching because you haven’t met your first therapist yet. Even 1 or 2 sessions with someone can be really useful, and you usually don’t need to switch unless you and the therapist have significant disagreements about how to proceed. Once you meet them, you can work out a schedule together that works for everyone.

It is common for therapists and psychiatrists offices to be in contact with each other, and form a loose team to help patients that need both services. Therapists focus more on communication and coping strategies, while psychiatrists have extensively researched mental illnesses and can prescribe medicine.

It makes a lot of sense that you want to address this quickly, because it’s causing you a lot of stress. While it will be really difficult, I encourage you to tell your mom more about what’s going on, since she’s the one who will be making the appointment. She’ll have a hard time guessing what you need if you haven’t talked to her about it in detail.

One thing you can start doing right away is to clearly let her know that her statements aren’t helping. Question her statements or outright refute them.

“therapy won’t fix that”? Has she been? How does she know?

“you have to”? Well, maybe you can and maybe you can’t, but one thing we know for sure is that arguing about it isn’t going to spontaneously give you the ability to deal with things.

“well, when I was in school”? That’s not helpful here. You are not your mom. Your school isn’t her school, and the problems you’re dealing with are not the problems she dealt with at your age. She might think she’s helping byy sharing examples from her life, but she needs to come to terms with the fact that you are separate people living two different lives.

It’s clear she’s relying heavily on her own experiences to try to get you to solve things the same way she did. It’s understandable, but she’s not adapting to your reality. She needs to see the severity of the situation before she’ll take it seriously. Maybe she’s still hoping you’ll be fine if she just gives you enough examples of dealing with things her way. Maybe she thinks that if you’re struggling, it’s her fault, and she’s just trying to prove it’s not her fault, but she doesn’t realize that mental illness can hit anyone, anywhere. It’s possible that if you can frame it as something separate from her, she’ll be able to accept that it’s real and be more motivated to get you the help you need.

Try to get more adults on your side. For instance, if your teachers or other relatives can vouch for the usefulness of therapy, or that it could benefit you personally, she might be more inclined to make the call. Maybe they can even set up an appointment for you.

Don’t let up. If she’s the only one who can make the appointment, you’ve got to convince her. You might have to risk more frustration with her not believing you about it, but convincing her is your #1 priority. It’s The Thing standing between you and therapy. I guarantee your mom wants you to live, and so do I. If she really knew how terrible you felt, she would do everything in her power to help. Good luck.

Back in Time Glitch: Twilight Princess Wii (IDK about GameCube cause I don't have one and not for HD because IDK how to get back in time started)

So this is really me tracking down my progress with doing the back in time glitch with Twilight Princess. I'm doing this because no one else really has cause I think they get stuck at one part. So, here we go:

So starting this glitch is pretty easy; all we have to do is go to Arbiter's Grounds and die (fun amirite). We have to make sure that when we die, we only see the tip of Link's gauntlet (or fingers, since it's different than how I remember it). Now, there are two things we can do while performing the glitch: either take damage or get it on the first try. Getting it on the first try is good, but we can't push the a or b buttons (all other buttons are fine, the other two will crash the game and we will need to unplug the Wii). Taking damage (any amount is fine) will allow us to push a and b, which will bring up the title screen where we can push a and b together to go to the menu and select any file. Whether it's new or not will not change anything from normal.

The first thing that will happen when we perform the glitch is we will be taken to the title screen area with no map, health, music, or item/action abilities. Don't push a or b if we didn't take damage before (damage will not be saved between resets, only if we perform the glitch right). This is where we need to die again. Responding from this will give us the normal screen, but we will be at one heart. Now here is where things get kinda weird. We can save and quit here and we will be brought to Faron woods (this is the right way). However, dying again will result in a game over. If we continue, we will be brought to the King Bokoblin fight (IDK). Skipping the cutscene will allow us to fight him while letting play will get us stuck on the bridge. If we defeat him and save Colin, we’ll be taken to Kakariko. No matter what we do here, either skipping the cutscene or not will softlock us there and we cannot leave or do anything (side note: after having done this, I had a nightmare about twilight Kakariko and Barns' Bomb Shop, so now I don't like it there lol).

Going the Faron route, we will be in the save Talo sequence. Do what we’d normally do, save him and go to the next day. (Now this part is very fuzzy since I did this part a few months ago, so I'll come back later). Go through the day, heard the goats, leave and DO NOT SKIP THE CUTSCENE AS YOU WILL BE STUCK. Go about, go to the house, and if my memory is right there we can give the kids the sword (keep in mind we won't get the first bottle, fishing rod, sword, or slingshot- but we can still give them a sword). Before we continue, go into the mayor's house since the door is now open and get the iron boots. This will save us time later. Now, do everything as normal until we come back to the world of light. This is where people give up I think, as there is "no way to progress."

We cannot get the sword and shield as there are logs blocking the hole to get the sword, the area to get to the shield is closed, and there are no characters around. However, this can be skipped using the sword and shield skip (there are youtube videos showing how to do this on GameCube and Wii). We’ll need a Bokoblin from the are and DO NOT KILL IT AND SAVE OR YOU ARE SCREWED. We’ll need to bring it to the wall of twilight, align it with a black mark on the wall and do a really big double attack on it. If we do it right we’ll bypass the area where Midna will tell us to go back and she'll let us into the twilight. Please note: this glitch is the hardest thing to do (in my experience). It took me over a year to do this, as I rage quit a lot from doing it over and over and over again, and I got it cause I was very lucky.

So, after that long intro, it's all good. Progress as normal, get to the forest temple and prepare to think you're stuck. Everything was great and normal until the first room with the spiders on the vines. Remember: we don't have the slingshot. But, the solution is easy: find some Boko Baba seed things and throw it at the spiders. Easy peasy. Now before we leave, there is one thing to note: beating the mini-boss of this dungeon with jump attacks is a no-go, cause that will hard crash the game with a very fun sound playing. Beat him (and the boss) slowly and it'll be good.

Go to the Eldin province and we'll be at the glitchy part of the run (twilight and light). Go through normally until we get to the gate to Kakariko. Go through it and we'll be taken into a cutscene. Remember the King Bokoblin fight? Yeah, that's here now, just will no voices for the NPCs. Watch the cutscene. Now the world is weird cause it's the world of light with a twilight filter. Midna will tell us to help Colin and there will be no shadow monsters or dying spirit of light. To fix this, just leave the area (side note: this is where we go if we fight King Bokoblin right after doing the glitch and we'll be softlocked cause we're human, but now we're a wolf and can do things now). Going to a new area puts everything back to where it should, but we can go back to the gate and start the same cutscene as many times as we want, as there's no limit to this or the number of times we can fix it. When we're done, go on as normal, get the bugs, and save the land. Once we are done talking to the spirit, another cutscene will play, the one where we get our horse. The game most likely triggers this because we have the iron boots (remember?), and it has to play it for later, which starts the Epona scene. Get her and save Colin. Do that and go to death mountain.

(if we wish, we can go to Ordon spring to get the hidden skill from the stone we probably activated in the twilight, but we’ll be unable to do it because we need a shield. We can buy a shield, but we either lose the nice metal shield for a cheap wooden one that burns or we pay 200 rupees to tell the game "Hey, I have the shield now, even though I've had it the entire time," which is something I didn't want to do, so I'm not getting any of the hidden skills, which pains me cause I want the back slice)

(This is in the Arbiter's Ground area but it's the same thing) (Also grandpa Time is blind cause I GOT A SHEILD) (ok boomer)

Back on point, go up to death mountain and realize that we don't have to take damage from that Goron because we got the boots (we won't be softlocked so it's good).

Now play through the area normally. Actually, play through the game normally, as everything from here on out is just a normal playthrough. We just do get the slingshot, the Ordon sword or shield, fishing rod, two bottles (one from the shop in Ordon and the other in the fishing area since we need the fishing rod to get it), and six hidden skills (if we don't want to part with a FREE metal shield).

So, I bet someones thinking about a problem in the future part of the gameplay. Right now I am it Arbiter's Grounds. (I found out it is possible to perform back in time again (but I think the point of restarting is just a bit later than I remember, since past of Link's gauntlet had to be seen then, and now it's the tips of his fingers). I think everything will go fine until we get to Snowpeak, or rather, not get to Snowpeak. We need the fishing rod to get the reekfish, and guess what we don't have: the reekfish. I believe one of three things will happen-

1) The game will hard crash (or just regular crash) cause we don't have the fishing rod, and the game will get really confused and die.

2) Nothing will happen. What I mean by this is that we won't be able to accept the earing addition and either Ralis will keep the earing or it will vanish and we never see it again.

3) The game spawns a fishing rod for the player to have and we go on as normal. With this, we'd be able to get a third bottle.

With the first two points, we will be softlocked, as the game will put us back at the start if we go into the blizzard.

I'm not sure what will happen at that point, but no matter what happens, whether we get the rod or not, I'm going to keep exploring with this glitch; I'll find the do's, don'ts, and mega don'ts. When I find something new I'll add it here later. Hope someone has fun with this and wish me luck! 🤞

Edit: So there's actually a fourth option: the fish hook is a new item in your inventory and now we're stuck.

So.....not what I was hoping for but that's what we get for trying to kill the game. The sad thing is that if we go to Colin's house we can see a fishing rod on the wall. I even found out that we cannot buy the slingshot because it's not in the shop in Ordon and the wooden sword doesnt appear in our house. Another new piece of info: we dont have the Ordon Spring warp since we never got the sword and shield in the beginning of the game.

So I'm going to see if there's a way to skip snowpeak. However, this will definitely be a problem later on during the Zant fight since we need the ball and chain. Wish me luck on that!

TL, DR: go back in time and save Hyrule on hard mode.

UPDATE: So I saw a video on YouTube talking about having all of our items in the king bulblin fight. What we need to do is do back in time and take damage before doing so. I did it in Arbiter's Grounds and got there fine. Then we need to pull up the title screen and fall into a void. Right before Link starts screaming, we push a+b (or start since this works on the gamecube). If done correctly we should here Link screaming on the file select. Now we have to choose a game file. If we choose a new file, we go through naming Link and Epona and when we start this happens:

(I sat here for 10 minutes. We can't do anything except power off and press home, but pushing reset still keeps us at this screen and now we can't use the home button).

If we select a file that already has data, then we go to the bulblin fight with all the items we had before the glitch, including the master sword (I'm doing this on a file where I already did the back in time glitch so I still dont have the fishing rod).

UPDATE: THE RUN'S NOT DEAD

So, I was watching YouTube and looked up Twilight Princess glitches and saw a glitch for early City In The Sky. By doing this glitch, we can skip all of Snowpeak Ruins and the Temple Of Time. Seeing as how the ball and chain is not needed to finish the game after Snowpeak and the dominon rod is only needed for the search for the sky quest (which we can skip while doing this glitch), we will be able to progress without the fishing rod and skip three hours of gameplay. I was hoping we could find a way to get the fishing rod so we could 100% the game, but now we definitely can't do that.

Early City In The Sky glitch:

Requirements: Master Sword and visited the desert at least once (completion of of Arbiter's Grounds recommended)

As soon as we have access to the Master Sword, we need to head to Lake Hylia. We need to go to the desert. Once at the desert, I recommend completing the Arbiter's Grounds, but that's not necessary right now. Now we warp to Kakariko village and go to Renado's basement. By sliding with z-targeting into the space between the statue and the wall (right on wii, left on gamecube). The angle is kinda precise so finding a YouTube video is recommended for finding a good angle. Once we're positioned right, we need to turn into wolf Link. If everything is correct we will clip past the statue. Now, as wolf link, go up to the cannon and say you'd like to warp. Midna will say Shad is still standing there (even though he's not). We can still warp the cannon as long as we open the map right after Midna is done talking (spam the button it has to be right after she's done). Turn on portals and warp to Lake Hylia and Midna will warp Link and the cannon there (we have to be in wolf form. Also, DO NOT AND QUIT IN THE ROOM. Apparently doing this on the wii will trap us as Midna won't let us warp)

Now at Lake Hylia we talk to the cannon guy and cough up 300 rupees. Here we can do some side quests. I finally caved and bought the Hylian shield and got the four hidden skills I had yet to get. (Note: apparently if you dony visit the desert before asking the guy to fix the cannon the game might crash). I have yet to to to the sky so I will see how that goes later.

End of the game stuff: We will be able to beat the game with a max of 16 hearts, 43 poe souls, 23 bugs, 2 bottles, five hidden skills, no Ordon sword/shield, no fishing rod, slingshot, no ball and chain, and no dominon rod. This is the max amount of items we can get. I will attempt this run again but try and see what the least amount of weapons required to beat the game is.

Edit: oof speedrunners use this to go fast in the game. This is just a way if you want practice doing speedruns of this game so you can get gud

I want to write a fantasy story set in a world that is inspired by ancient china and touches upon the culture. I have some knowledge of the culture based from my heritage but I dont think it will be enough. I will have to do a lot of research, of course, but I was wondering if you had any tips or pointers that I should pay attention to while researching a different countrie's culture and customs?

Using an Existing Country as Inspiration; Research Tips

Here are some things to keep in mind when researching an inspiration country for a Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel:

1. No Country is a Monolith

Remember that every country encompasses a diverse array of geography and biomes, flora and fauna, climate and weather events, cultural and religious groups, cultural and political regions, customs and traditions, lifestyles and industries, architectural styles and fashion, food and drink, weapons and military, economy and political relationships. When incorporating elements from your inspiration country, don’t just zero in on the best known, stereotypical elements. Look for unusual, lesser known elements, too, but also include a diverse array of elements to reflect how diverse an entire country can be.

2. Inspiration vs Taking

All too often, writers choose an inspiration country and simply take the elements they like, without changing them at all, and incorporate them right into their stories. This is problematic for a lot of reasons, not the least of which because it’s frequently done by white writers taking elements from countries with a history of European colonization and oppression, and also because taking something and being inspired by something are two different things. If I’m a clothing designer and I’m inspired by Coco Chanel, I shouldn’t be re-creating her looks exactly, right down to giving my collections the same names as hers. Instead, I should be incorporating the feel of these looks into my own looks, but putting my own spin on them and adding my own personal elements. The same is true of using a real place as inspiration for a fictional one, especially in Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Your fictional place should be a mix of inspired elements and complimentary elements that you created from scratch.

3. Similar but Different

To elaborate further on putting your own twist on a thing… let’s say your inspiration country is India, and you’re choosing inspiration elements from across India’s very broad cultural, political, historical, and geographical existence. But you want your reader to say, “This setting reminds me of India.” Not, “This setting is India.” So, if you incorporate actual Indian elements into your story, with their name, appearance, and exact significance unchanged, not only are you taking, not borrowing, you’re also going to confuse your reader. Is this place somewhere in India? Is it an alternate version of India? Or is it a new, fantastical place from some other time that doesn’t exist on Earth? The latter is what you’re going for, and you won’t get there if you incorporate henna, saris, rajahs, and khandas into your story without altering them and making them your own. Don’t take henna and put it into your story. Be inspired by henna and create something like it of your very own. Maybe it’s a plant-based dye called leehna, and instead of being reddish-brown in color, it’s a deep purple or bright blue. Change the cultural significance of this dye, or when and how it’s used. Your readers are smart… they’ll recognize it as being something like henna, but it doesn’t have to actually be henna in order for it to serve the same function in your story.

4. Something of Yourself, Too

If you’re writing about a fictional place, not every element should be inspired by your inspiration country. Think up your own elements, too. Try to create elements that with both compliment and contrast with the elements that inspired you from the inspiration country. You want this fictional country to be a nice mix of inspired elements with your own twist, and totally new elements of your own creation.

5. Research Tips

(a) Once you’ve selected your inspiration country, start by finding a comprehensive historical timeline of the country and familiarize yourself with its historical eras, royal dynasties, political and religious shifts, important wars, cultural and political clashes, colonialism, and any other important history. By getting this general overview of your inspiration country, you’ll be better prepared to pick and chose inspirational elements.

(b) Google can be a tremendous resource when researching anything, but don’t limit yourself to encyclopedia entries and educational articles. Other things to try:

– YouTube may have educational videos and documentaries, both general and geared toward specific details, about and related to your inspiration country.

– YouTube may also have tours of different areas, regions, and historical sites

– Streaming sites and cable may also have interesting shows and documentaries that touch on your inspiration country

– Podcasts are another option for learning about your inspiration country. Do a search for [inspiration country] + podcast, or “podcasts about [inspiration country]

– Music from your inspiration country, both historical and contemporary, can be found on YouTube, Pandora, and other sites that offer music

– Google Maps and Google Earth may offer street level tours of your inspiration country

– Google Image Search can yield amazing results if you’re looking for visual inspiration from your inspiration country, or images of a particular element

– Writing forums may have members from your inspiration country. Try asking if there are any, and if so, see if there are elements from their country that they would love to see re-imagined in fantasy, or elements that they’re tired of seeing.

– Museums with world collections can be an amazing place to find inspiration from your source country. You can look for items in all different collections, from artifacts to fashion and everything in between.

– Books, both coffee table books and travel books, can be a great way to learn information about your inspiration country.

- Try keeping your research in three places: a notebook, for information you find out and about or in books, a desktop file folder for digital information and pictures you want to save, and a browser folder for web sites and other links you want to save. Use the same name for all three so that it’s easy to remember and fine. Keeping all your information together, and knowing where it all is, will help keep you organized during the research process.
