have some reborn au i wrote last night. itachi pov, both double times as the start to tori's book club adventures and itachi's fake dates
there's a joke about not microwaving styrofoam.... i just wanted to note before someone "corrects" me that i know there are some supposedly microwave safe styrofoams (like, for example, some types of cup noodles) but in general i would avoid microwaving styrofoam because they can leech toxins into your food and like. melt.
--
Itachi was relieved when Tori pitched an idea for their first date herself.
“Hey,” she said, snagging his arm in the ANBU breakroom. ANBU Rat looked up from intently watching her lunch in the microwave. “Can I talk to you about something?”
“You’re not supposed to be here,” Itachi told her, although part of him was pleased. Gossip in ANBU ran fast. Rat would surely be telling everyone about Tori spontaneously appearing to talk to him.
He didn’t ask about how she’d gotten into ANBU. If Tori decided she was going somewhere, she went there. She had her lab coat on, which meant she’d probably just wandered over there from R&D. Tori loved talking about how people just listened to people in lab coats, and no warning signs or fancy fuinjutsu was going to stop her.
“And you make yourself hard to find,” Tori countered.
This comment was undoubtedly bad for their budding relationship’s PR. Itachi quickly course-corrected.
“Why don’t we talk over dinner?” he suggested. “I get off at six.”
Tori’s eyes narrowed, suspicious. The microwave dinged and ANBU Rat removed a take-away box.
“My treat,” Itachi offered. “We haven’t caught up in a while.”
“Yeah, okay,” Tori agreed. She’d always been easy to bribe with a free meal. She turned on her heel and pointed accusingly at ANBU Rat. With evident disgust in her voice, she asked, “Did you just microwave styrofoam?”
Itachi decided Rat would be a valuable witness, as she’d be able to report Itachi neither chastised Tori for sneaking in nor did he do anything to prevent her from telling Rat off over her microwaving etiquette. This was clear favoritism.
Itachi’s shift ended late, which wasn’t unusual, and he found Tori in one of the chunin breakrooms flipping through a book catalog. She filled him in on her conundrum on their walk over the restaurant: she’d enjoyed her trip to the fan convention, and wanted to start her own fan club in Konoha to recapitulate the sort of mindless fun only a group of people united in love for bad genre fiction could share.
“Kakashi said he’d join whatever club, but he refuses to talk Icha Icha with me and the Konoha chapter won’t let me in anyway,” she complained. She flapped the catalog at him. “So I have to find a different series.”
Itachi chose a restaurant with outdoor seating along a busy street. Through some minor genjutsu, he convinced a couple to leave early and then a waiter to clear their table immediately so they could be in full view of the passing crowds. If Tori noticed, she was too busy gesticulating with the catalog and reciting prices to say anything.
It was true that Itachi was a connoisseur of bad ninja fiction, a hobby cultured over long days of uninterrupted travel with Akatsuki. He hadn’t allowed himself much time in this lifetime to read, but he still remembered his favorite inane plots and ridiculous depictions of ninja. It would be interesting to see if his old favorites had stayed the same or not in this timeline, and he found himself missing his old hobby.
“I’d be happy to join,” he said, perfectly sincere, when the waiter left them with their menus.
“Oh, good,” Tori replied, eyes brightening. “Okay, so we have three people. Do you think we could convince Deidara?”
Deidara had… mixed opinions on consuming bad art intentionally. As far as Itachi could tell, Deidara was in a constant tug-of-war between his artistic principles and his own personality, and the appeal of bad media seemed to go completely over his head unless he were in the mood to be mean about something. This was fine for a bad movie night, but maybe not the mood Tori was looking for with her little book club. Then again, Itachi was fairly confident he could simply tell Deidara a single opinion on art, and this would incite a lively debate lasting hours.
“I figured if we host it at our place, he’ll be forced to join,” Tori said, drumming her fingers on the table in thought.
“That could backfire,” Itachi pointed out. Deidara was so dedicated to his art that he often didn’t care if he lost his own possessions to it. “You can’t expect Deidara to let a quiet evening continue to be quiet if he even suspects he’s been manipulated into it.”
“Well, maybe we should pick a series first,” Tori backtracked.
They ordered, and Itachi leafed through the catalog while they waited for food. Tori told some story he could barely follow about how when she was growing up, some books would come with cheap costume jewelry attached to them, and she always begged for those books even though she knew she wouldn’t like the story.
“They were always about unicorns, and unicorns are just fantasy horses. And I am not a horse girl, Itachi,” she said very seriously.
Itachi assumed she was talking about her previous life. When Tori shared details of her childhood in this timeline, they were usually more disturbing, but at least they made sense.
“Although it was a great marketing tactic,” Tori continued, picking up her chopsticks and clicking them together thoughtfully. “Imagine if Icha Icha did that. ‘Free anal beads included with every purchase’--”
The waiter chose this moment to arrive with their food, and Tori’s cheeks went pink. Itachi had to duck his head to hide a smile.
“I thought you said Jiraiya was afraid of anything anal,” Itachi said when the waiter left. That had been one of her favorite rants. Apparently Jiraiya’s homoerotic obsession with Orochimaru manifested as internalized homophobia or something, according to Tori.
“Ugh,” Tori replied, performatively holding a hand over her eyes. “Listen, just tell me what PG-13 series we could read so I don’t embarrass myself in public again.”
“So do you want me to exclude the ones with horses…?”
Itachi eventually suggested a series which was one of his personal favorites. The first installment lent its name to the whole of the series, and was called Kitty Girl Stabby Ninja. The plot followed a kunoichi sent to assassinate a male missing-nin from her village, but a jutsu gone wrong turned the kunoichi into a cat instead. She was then adopted by the missing-nin, and shenanigans ensued. It was, as far as Itachi had gathered from interviews with the author, written as an inside joke among friends, and she’d simply kept going when the book had received unexpected popularity, writing about increasingly absurd scenarios about people (and once, the concept of a ninjutsu itself) being turned into cats. In Itachi’s opinion, what made the ridiculous shinobi-themed adventures fun rather than puzzlingly inaccurate, was that the narrative never once took itself seriously, except in a handful of a character interactions and emotional beats. The overall result was that the series was a light, charming read.
“There’s four books out now,” Itachi said, watching Tori’s face as he talked, “and I believe a fifth one should be out soon. I haven’t been following it recently.”
By “recently” he meant “in this timeline.”
Tori had been listening to him with the sort of intense concentration she used when listening to mission briefings, her brows furrowed and her gaze focused on the food in front of her. It was one of her funnier quirks, how seriously she could take relatively unimportant things like a book club. Itachi had thought it made her seem flighty and bad at prioritizing when he first met her, but given it seemed to incur no cost to her ability to concentrate on her actual job, he’d decided it was more endearing, the way Kakashi’s perpetual lateness could seem almost charming after you’d just accepted it as part of personality.
“No, you’re right,” she told him. “The catalog had a full-page advertisement for the new one. I guess it is pretty popular.”
“I believe it spurred several sister series,” Itachi said. “And the author started hiring ghost writers at some point, so there will always be a new book a few months away.”
Tori hummed, pleased.
“That means the lore must be intricate,” she said. “That always makes for good fannish activity. Bonus points if it’s also slightly incohesive– that’s what really gets people fixated.”
Itachi didn’t know how to comment on that. But Tori seemed happy about the idea, so he held back a comment about the drop in quality that also happened with the introduction of ghost writers.
“Alright, I’m convinced,” Tori declared. “We’ll start a Kitty Girl Stabby Ninja book club. I wonder if there are official clubs? I know Ebisu somehow got their Icha Icha club to be officially sanctioned despite the whole secretive ninja village thing, but that one seems a little different because… well, you know…”
When the waiter cleared their plates, Itachi asked for a dessert menu.
“I think we should share this,” he said, pointing at an item at the bottom of the menu. It was their special house sundae, which he had been coveting for months now. It had three types of ice cream, every in-season fruit you could think of, and both white and dark chocolate shavings. The only thing that had prevented him from ordering it sooner was that it was too much for one person, even him.
“Ah, I see your game,” Tori said, eyeing him knowingly. “Sure, I’ll help you eat your weight in dessert.”
Itachi could feel the tips of his ears going pink, but it wasn’t like he’d invited her out just to have an excuse to order a sundae. No, he’d just concluded that sharing an ice cream in public would be an undeniably romantic thing to do and also sufficiently in-character for him for his parents to believe it. The fact that he’d also once had a dream about the sundae was simply an added perk.
“How many people do you want to recruit?” Itachi asked while they waited for their dessert monstrosity.
“Ten people or fewer, I think,” Toro replied. “Too many and then the discussion can’t be as good. But I figure the first few meetings will have more, and people will drop out because they don’t like the book or they don’t have time or, like, Deidara will scream at someone. And then eventually we’ll get it down to a few dedicated people.”
Itachi thought it would be equally likely that Tori herself would assert something like Only a moron would microwave styrofoam and rub someone the wrong way, or Kakashi would be so intentionally annoying at someone that they’d hide from public for the rest of the week. He held himself back from saying anything, though, even though he’d be entirely correct, because their dessert arrived.
The ice cream’s size was so great that the waiter needed both hands and they had to clear a space on the table themselves. Tori’s eyebrows rose only slightly as she took it in. A woman at the table next to them grinned knowingly at them. Good, good.
“Your place is too small for ten people,” Itachi observed, grabbing his spoon.
Tori seemed to think this over for a few moments. Then she said, “But there’s nowhere else, unless you want to volunteer your place.”
Itachi held back a wince. His parents would probably agree, but then he’d have to go through the awful process of navigating his parents’ attempts to monitor his personal life, and then also dodging the inevitably of Sasuke wanting to join and him having to say no. No, this would suck any ounce of joy he might find in a silly activity like a book club.
“I thought so,” Tori said, without him having to verbalize any of this. “Maybe we could pressure Kakashi into it, but I don’t think he has much space either. Plus he’d be tempted to like… lock us out on purpose or something and pretend he forgot.”
This seemed plausible.
“Kushina-sensei would let us,” Itachi offered. Tori immediately made a face.
“No one’s going to want to meet at the Hokage’s residence,” she protested.
“Why not?” Itachi asked.
“Because the Hokage could be there,” she said, and Itachi noted she’d only eaten a single strawberry off the sundae. “No one’s going to want to talk about their dumb headcanons under threat of the Hokage overhearing.”
“None of the potential members you listed will care,” Itachi pointed out.
Tori frowned, very carefully shaving off ice cream with her spoon in some sort of exact ratio with chocolate. Itachi was right, of course. If anything, Kakashi would be more open at Kushina-sensei’s house, and no one from Team 4 would care. Hokage-sama was a less intimidating host than Itachi’s parents, anyway.
“But I want to recruit normal people,” Tori said eventually. “Random career chunin. Civilians. You know, new people.”
“Alright,” Itachi said. “Like who?”
Tori stared back at him. She held her gaze while he had several bites of ice cream, her face slowly screwing up as she wracked her brain for “normal” people she thought she could conceivably approach about a book club. Itachi was fairly certain she wasn’t going to think of anyone.
“Perhaps one of your labmates?” he suggested.
Tori averted her gaze, looking mildly peeved. So she was still failing to make friends with anyone in lab.
“I don’t think it being at the Hokage’s residence will be more of a deterrent than the presence of any of your other members,” Itachi said slowly. “You picked… an intimidating group.”
Tori actually rolled her eyes. “Like you’re all that intimidating,” she said.
“My performance review says I’m unapproachable and mean and my reputation prevents people from commenting on it in pursuit of a solution,” Itachi countered, which actually provoked a laugh from Tori. He didn’t think this review was very fair, because he was almost always correct so why would anyone need to argue with him, but he acknowledged Hokage-sama kept having increasingly stressed talks with him about it.
“Okay, so you’re awful,” she allowed, “but Kakashi? Please. Anyone who’s met him knows he’s just a weird dog man.”
“I think your perspective might be skewed,” Itachi told her.
He did not point out that Tori herself had an extremely strong personality, and that the only reason she didn’t already have her own reputation was that forbidden jutsu were by necessity kept secret, so very few people knew how routinely she churned them out. It wasn’t as obvious as his or Kakashi’s or Deidara’s because she was a smiley fifteen year old girl who intentionally carried herself like a civilian, but once you peeled back the several layers of facade, Tori was someone who’d crafted her personality under Orochimaru and the Akatsuki. It was probably why she wasn’t good at making friends– the other shinobi in R&D could undoubtedly sense there was something deeply wrong with what was going on with Tori under the surface.
Part of what was deeply wrong with her was that she wanted to rope a bunch of normal, unsuspecting people into a book club where she’d probably start spouting conspiracy theories, but that wasn’t the point.
“Are you trying to use this club to pretend you’re still clinging to your civilian life, because you feel that’s what your normal should be?” Itachi asked.
Tori’s lips thinned. In a perfect deadpan, she said, “What the fuck, Itachi.”
Too far then, okay. Probably something he shouldn’t push in public, especially when he was pretending to be on an extremely romantic date.
(This meant he was right, though.)
He deflected by saying, “Have you considered Kushina-sensei and Hokage-sama might want to join?”
Tori groaned loudly. “I just said–” she started.
She didn’t want any commanding officers at the club. Itachi pointed out her only guaranteed members right now were himself and Kakashi, who were both celebrated Jounin and ANBU captains. Deidara was also a rather infamous Jounin. Tori seemed to get frustrated with his completely sound logic, and switched to asking him what snacks he thought they should have.
“I think I’ll have to come up with discussion questions too,” she said. “Do you want to help with that?”
“Discussion questions? Why?” Itachi asked.
Tori’s lips quirked up. “I forgot,” she teased. “You’re uneducated.”
Itachi didn’t think this was fair. The Tori of this timeline had never had any sort of formal schooling.
“Don’t pout,” Tori told him, performatively sticking her nose up. “You know it’s true. Anyway, the point of discussion questions would be to provoke conversation and keep people from going off topic. We wouldn’t necessarily use them all, but they’d be there for structural purposes.”
Itachi ended up eating most of the ice cream himself, and he felt uncomfortably full as he offered to walk Tori home. She shot him a confused look.
“Why?” she asked. “I’m out of your way.”
“I want to…” Itachi started. Mostly he wanted to be seen with her, doing boyfriend-like things. “I want to walk off…”
She laughed at him again, needing no further context to understand what he meant. It wasn’t mocking, but rather that she found his predicament genuinely funny.
“Fine, let’s go along the river, then,” she decided.
It was a slightly longer walk, but it was undeniably prettier, with the promenade lined by trees. The sun was setting, and the orange glow reflected back at them from the water. It was much more romantic too, he decided. Couples in romance novels were always walking along bodies of water.
That wasn’t bad at all, Itachi decided when he left Tori at the corner of her street. It had been fun, even. That had really been no different from spending time with her as a friend, although perhaps next time he should come up with an excuse to hold her hand. Itachi very rarely had time to spend casually with friends, but he always enjoyed quiet time spent with Shisui, and, he supposed when he thought about it, he did largely enjoy time with Team 4.
Why didn’t everyone just date their friends? This was the best idea he’d had in a while.

Roundtable presentation: Victorious
Victorious follows Tori Vega, an unassuming teenager who lands a coveted spot at Hollywood Arts High School, a prestigious performing arts school, after taking her older sister's place in a showcase. Surrounded by her talented classmates like Andre, Robbie, Jade, and Beck, Tori navigates the challenges of high school life with a focus on music, performance, and the ups and downs of artistic pursuits. The show utilizes humor, musical numbers, and a dual-focus narrative that explores not just romantic relationships, but also friendships, mentorship, and collaboration as Tori gains confidence and embraces her newfound passion for performing.
Tumblr media
How does the series use dual-focus narrative as a strategic storytelling tool beyond heteronormative romantic pairings?
Victorious is more of a coming of age show. I think the central focus of this dual-focus narrative is mainly navigating highschool in a very competitive performing arts world, while juggling with the drama and complexities of being a teenager.
Trina and Tori’s dynamic is a prime example of this. While often played for laughs, they offer a unique dual focus on sibling rivalry and eventual support. Episodes explore the challenges of living in each other's shadows while ultimately showcasing a bond of care, even if expressed in a quirky way.
youtube
Cat and Jade’s friendship is another example. Their contrasting personalities - Cat's bubbly, seemingly innocent and dumb, and Jade's dry wit - create a dynamic that focuses on loyalty, acceptance, and navigating the intricacies of female friendship and girlhood.
Tumblr media
Often, the show adopts a "group focus" narrative, touching on themes of teamwork, navigating high school and the “que serás” of life after graduation. Victories at competitions, overcoming obstacles thrown their way by Sikowitz, or simply hanging out are all depicted with a group focus, fostering a sense of community and shared journey. Sikowitz, the eccentric yet insightful teacher, becomes a mentor figure for each character. The dual focus here explores themes of artistic growth, following one's passion, and overcoming self-doubt, with each character's journey receiving dedicated focus.
What are the “inevitable” couplings within the series and how are they accentuated through “cinematic” similarities and contrasts?
Beck and Jade’s love story is a classic "opposites attract" with cinematic parallels. Beck, the carefree charmer, is often contrasted with Jade's fierce and sarcastic personality. They use slow-motion moments, lingering glances, and dramatic lighting to emphasize their inevitable connection. Their contrasting personalities often lead to humorous conflicts. Jade's sharp wit clashes with Beck's laid-back demeanor, resulting in playful banter and witty exchanges. These comedic moments keep the relationship dynamic and prevent it from becoming overly sentimental. While slow-motion highlights their connection, their body language in everyday interactions can show their contrasting comfort levels. Beck might have a more open posture, while Jade might have crossed arms or a guarded stance, hinting at their underlying feelings and insecurities. Although, somehow, they seem to not be able to stay away from each other!
Tumblr media
How does the series use musical numbers within and beyond the narrative world to replicate fairy tale, backstage, or folk musicals?
Diegetic musical numbers like "Freak the Freak Out" blur the lines between reality and the fictional performance. The song takes place during a moment in which Tori wants to prove herself and others that she is talented, in some way, it showcases her anxieties and at the same time, her confidence as she performs for the karaoke bar's crowd. On the contrary, Acoustic numbers like "You Don't Know Me" performed by Jade mirror the folk musical style, emphasizing personal growth and self-discovery. This stripped-down style allows for a more intimate portrayal of her character’s emotions and vulnerabilities, as she is often only portrayed as the punk, emo teenager with no feelings.

Power Rangers Ninja Storm HCs and Character Analysis (kind of)
The first of a series of long posts examining the characters of PR Ninja Storm
Shane Clarke
Background/story
Dad is very come and go. Absent for most of his life before leaving for good after the birth of his little sister
His mom is awesome, but had to pick up multiple jobs after his dad left
She works at a diner that the rangers frequent often
Shane picked up a job at Storm Chargers to help out and that’s where he met Dustin
Has an older brother (2-3 years older) who he does not get along with
Brother ignores background (Read: Family)
Says Shane needs to try harder to ‘get out of their city’ in order to ‘make something of himself’
Dad put a lot of expectations on them whenever he was around
Brother wants to make him proud
Shane is pissed that he expected so much of them while doing the bare minimum for them himself
Needless to say they have very different opinions on their dad
They both love their family though and help their mom out wherever they can (brother is going to become a lawyer and Shane works at Storm Chargers)
Has a little sister (5) who Shane adores with his whole heart
Babysits when he can
Is teaching her how to skateboard and some martial arts
She adores Dustin (as most kids do) and thinks Tori is very pretty
Is cautious of Hunter and Blake at first (Shane complained about ‘the new kids at work’ a lot)
Eventually starts to like them (Hunter sweeps her off her feet like Dustin, but Blake is a fun playmate too)
She is very cute
Met Dustin at Storm Chargers when he had to get a new skateboard (he broke it doing a guard rail slide)
Became best buddies when Shane stopped a group of bullies from picking on Dustin at school
Dustin started working at Storm Chargers first and Shane hung out there so much that Kelly just offered to pay him to be there (Dustin double bodies with Shane to get work done) (It’s a 50/50 on whether they get work done or not)
Have the brotherly relationship Shane wanted with his brother (they tease and tussle a lot but they want the best for each other and are very supportive/protective)
Met Tori when she came into Storm Chargers lost (Before they worked there)
Dustin and Shane recognized her from school and go to say hi
They startle her and she sprays them with water to which she freaks out about because her parents freak out about it but Dustin and Shane show her their abilities with earth and air (in secret) and she chills about it
Shane asked how a girl could do sports and both Dustin and Tori are like ‘Girls can do sports!’ ‘Yeah, my older sister is really good at soccer and basketball!’ ‘Oh. Sorry. Do you do any sports?’ ‘I surf’ ‘Awesome!!’
They slowly become friends (Tori is a little more anxious than Shane and Dustin at this point in time)
Eventually become family and are very close (also protective, mainly of Dustin since he is prone to getting bullied) (Dustin is oblivious to it but he appreciates his friends for sticking up for him anyways) (People basically stopped when he shot up, got buff, and hella pretty)
Shane keeps a lot of guys off Tori when they’re at the beach because the vibes are wrong
Also aromantic and doesn’t understand why Tori may want to have random strangers come and flirt with her
Shane and Tori fight like siblings do and Dustin is either mediator or off to the side with popcorn
Side tangent of their entering of the Ninja Academy for timeline reasons
Started at the beginning of high school so they could have something to do together since they have different sporting hobbies
Ended up being a bit of an elaborate plan to get them into the academy (since it’s a secret academy)
Officially known as the Academy of Elemental Ninjutsu
Dustin is all for it and is excited to be a ninja but Shane and Tori are a little more skeptical (secretly also very excited)
They are the most powerful students, but don’t have much experience with their powers so they get their butts kicked a lot
They are pretty good for the amount of time they’ve put in
Can use smoke bombs, can ninja vanish, streak, and have shurikens
Tori would always be on time of not for the boys
Ok, back to their relationships with people
Didn’t know Cam until they started at the academy and even then it was only through very, very brief interactions (Cam doesn’t like talking to people… or people in general)
After the academy is destroyed, they start talking to him more and dubbed him their ‘guy in the chair’ (affectionate)
Become fiercely protective of him (he’s the littlest brother) (he is older than both Tori and Dustin) (he says as much)
Shane is very impressed with fighting skills even before he became a ranger
Appreciates him, but shows it in his usual manner of teasing and back slaps (Cam thinks he’s being made fun of) (he is not)
Does not like Hunter or Blake the first time they meet
Susses them out immediately as bad news and argues over them a little with Dustin and Tori
Is very vindicated when they do turn out to be bad but doesn’t rub it in because Dustin and Tori are pretty upset over it
Sympathizes with them for having lost a parent (in a different way for him but still)
Is still suspicious and cautious by the time the leave, but takes a neutral stance for the most part
And then when they come back brainwashed he fucking loses it
Hates them, hates them so much, he doesn’t care what happened to their parents they are hurting his friends (badly)
Finds out they were brainwashed and takes all the anger he had for them and takes it out on Choobo (Who dies and stays dead, thank you)
Pretty chill with Blake but has a very intense rivalry with Hunter since they are both reds/head of their group
Calms down after they realize they have a lot in common, including older brother overprotectiveness, and it becomes a friendly rivalry
Personality/Headcanons/Arcs
Headstrong and follows his guts on most things
Also very stubborn and likes to do things his way
But is caring and protective too and looks out for his own
Strategically smart and is the most experienced with weaponry
Specialized in crossbows, bows and arrows, and (for some ungodly reason) guns
Is also handy with a fan and throwing knives
Powers allow him to walk on air, has a longer hang time in general (very helpful with skateboard practice)
Can hold is breath for the longest (Tori is a close second)
Powers also make him silent on his feet (can and has scared his fellow rangers) (Must announce his presence when walking into a room)
Hated the fact that his friends were going to be put in the line of fire when they become rangers
Thus why he pushes them so hard and tries to take the brunt of the punches
Learns to trust his team and to work as a unit
Has a lot of self-esteem issues and constantly feels like he has to prove himself
Dustin and Tori try to help with this, and later Sensei because this is something that an adult should be helping with
Has to learn that he is enough on his own and he doesn’t need his brother’s approval for anything he does
Shane thought the thing with Skylar was a dream
He had that dream a lot as a kid and then it stopped
He was confused when they started up again and they gave him a weird feeling
Skylar was basically his platonic soulmate and he was so happy to finally meet her and then she dies and it’s ANGSTY
LET SHANE CRY OVER HER AFTER SHE DIES
Dustin and Tori are there for comfort
On a happier note, Shane can sing
Like really well
“It is your birthday~”
Becomes a sensei at the end of the show and eventually takes over as headmaster when sensei retires
Tori Hanson : Dustin Brooks : Hunter Bradley : Blake Bradley : Cam Watanabe

Loving your Andrew Lloyd Webber hate idk anything about him I just know I think he's massively overrated. If you have a longer rant or more tea abt him I would love to hear
GOD I did not need more encouragement on this subject but anyway my first actual foray into fandom was Phantom of the Opera so Andy and I have been long acquainted and I have kept up loosely on his bullshit for a over a decade now.
If you go digging for tea what comes up might involve accusations of plagiarism? I don't necessarily know a lot about these or think he's a patented Talentless Hack Music Thief. He does a lot of strong simple melodic lines and several of them have borne resemblances to existing songs and there have been court cases about maybe one or two that ruled in his favor or settled out of court. there's just better reasons to hate him than a stance about whether or not he's good at music. that's subjective!
The OTHER tea you will probably hear about is some highly publicized times he treated cast members like absolute shit. His most recent musical which you may have heard of is a weird attempt to rival the classic Rogers & Hammerstein's Cinderella by making his own fresh funky hip young Cinderella musical which is. not very good. and pitching fits all throughout 2020-2021 because he wasn't allowed to produce a musical in a theatre at some intervals for public safety. and forcing the production through with very little meaningful editing. and calling in over the speakers backstage to angrily bitch out the entire cast the first time the production got a bad review. and going forward with the process of hiring people to replace the original cast when their contracts were up for those who didn't want to renew the contracts, but then abruptly closing the show to transfer it to the united states instead with so little notice that all the people who had just been offered new contracts and cleared their schedules found out that they were unemployed on social media. and changing nothing between the original production and the broadway production but continuing to blame the cast for the increasingly bad reviews. that kind of stuff
in a more general sense he is just a mean rich cunt. he's a baron and a royalist conservative and spent 20 years as a sitting tory member of the house of lords while being so out of touch that he never bothered to come in and vote except in cases where arts funding matters benefitted him and his business personally. and his gripe with the tory party is mostly that they kept shutting down his show due to covid so i suppose he just won't vote about anything ever again

Nishikdo Ryo for Cinematoday 2023.06.19
rough translation of the interview
Nishikido Ryo is not in a hurry after becoming independent: "I want to live an easy-going life"
Kudo Kankura and Oishi Shizuka, who is currently writing for the 2024 Taiga drama 'Hikaru Kimi e', two extremely talented scriptwriters, have teamed up under the producer and director of 'Ikebukuro West Gate Park' and 'Kisarazu Cat's Eye' for the Netflix series 'Let's Get Divorced' (exclusive distribution starts 22 June). Nishikido Ryo, who established his own label 'NOMAD RECORDS' in 2019 and started his solo career, talks about the changes he has undergone since becoming independent.
Let's Get Divorced is a comedy in which Kurosawa Yui (Naka Riisa), a nationally popular actress, and Shoji Taishi (Matsuzaka Tori), an unenthusiastic hereditary politician, decide to separate, but their respective circumstances make it difficult for them to do so and things fall apart. It is during this delicate period that Yui meets Kano Kyoji, played by Nishikido. Nishikido says: "It's a great honour to be asked to play this role, and I hope I can do it in my own way. However, I wasn't that enthusiastic about it", he recalls when he received the offer.
After becoming a freelance actor, Nishikido "dabbled" in acting, such as in the Amazon Music short film "No Return," for which he worked again with Daihachi Yoshida, director of "Hitsu no Ki”. Following the NHK BS Premiere drama Kazoku Dakara Aishitan Janakute, Aishita no ga Kazoku Datta , this is the first drama in a long time in which viewers are exposed to Nishikido as an actor. However, Nishikido himself said, "You can still ride a bicycle even if you haven't ridden it for a while. Maybe that's how I feel about acting".
For Nishikido, the crank-in for "let's get divorced" was a scene with Naka Riisa. "We went out for Chinese food right after we meet. I had met Ms. Naka during the reading before shooting, but I was still nervous about the first scene. I pretended not to be nervous," he said with a wry laugh.
Kyoji is also a character with a strong presence in the drama. He spends his daytime hours in a pachinko parlour, and at first it is not even clear what kind of work he does. Despite this, he is somehow confident, calm and unfazed, and seems to be living in his own time, detached from his surroundings. As soon as she meets Yui, he quickly enters Yui's heart, which is shaken by her divorce, and while he is at times deeply gentle, he is at other times as cold as a sharp knife. In a word, he is a man who is very appealing to women, and Nishikido pulls off Kyoji in a very natural way. Nishikido says of Kyoji, "There are people who go to very good universities and have amazing titles, but then do unexpected things. I think he has a strong sense of self and has high priorities. And yet, he doesn't expect anyone to understand him. As a man, I envy him if I could live like that. Normally, I would be more concerned about my surroundings," he says, looking somewhat at ease with himself.
Nishikido, however, shows a contented expression after filming for the first time in a long time, saying, "More than anything, it was fun, and I realised that I really like acting. He adds, "It wasn't because I could lead different lives or for any clear reason at all", but "Someone came up with the script, and then the staff all thought about it, decided on the costumes and did the make-up. I memorise the lines, and it takes shape as a work of art. If someone watches it and thinks it's interesting, I'm happy. It's not more or less than that, it's just a feeling," he says, explaining the joy of acting. Unlike music, I don't make my work alone," he says slowly, choosing his words carefully, "I think it's wonderful to make a film together with co-stars and staff.
On the other hand, it is difficult for him to watch his performances objectively. "I don't tell anyone if I have any criticism about my performance (laughs). But I want to think that what came out in my expressions, what was captured on camera, and what was edited was the best I could do.” As for the drama, he said, "I want everyone to see it as soon as possible. It's a very interesting story, and the characters are all lovable. I like that there is no one who ends up being just a hateful person," he said confidently.
How did you spend the time away from acting?  “Nothing has changed. There was never a time when I did not watch movies or dramas, and I never thought to myself, "I want to act too!” It was too presumptuous of me to even think about such a thing. It was my own choice to take a different path.” Ryo said naturally. “I feel that offers received before I became independent have a slightly different meaning than offers received after I became independent. I feel that acting offers is more significant now because they thought I was the right person for the role” He says, expressing his gratitude.
As for the reason why he wasn't in a hurry, he said, "In my case, it was it not I want to act in films but there aren't any films for to appear in, It was the result of my own choices, so I had no negative feelings at all” he said, without wavering in his choice. But he was not aggressively or forward about it and said, "I thought, it's okay if I can't act in the future. So I wasn’t saying, "I'm going to make it in the next production!" I'll just do my best, and if I catch someone's eye, there might be a next time. Even if I don't act anymore, even if I don't do this kind of work, I'd rather live a normal, easy-going life," he says, somewhat overlapping with Kyoji.
It is also striking that he describes his change of heart since becoming independent as 'running, to feeling like skipping'. “Skipping is surprisingly fast yet easy. So I don't dislike it, but I try hard to express it somehow. I enjoyed the parts I enjoyed before, and I still suffer from the parts I suffer from. But now, it is all up to me to decide what path to take. That is why each and every responsibility falls on me. At the same time, I have a solid feeling that I am carving out a path for myself. The experiences I accumulate are clearly different from before. It is up to each person to decide which is better, but I prefer this one. It's not like I can say "No, it's been fine!", but I don't want to say anything negative about it either. So I hope that as more years go by, I can connect today to tomorrow, when I will be glad that I chose the path I have taken so far. Then maybe something will come out of it.” he said quietly and confidently.

Robbie x reader
Tumblr media
I was so nervous. Today would be my first day at Hollywood Arts and I wanted to make a good impression. I grabbed my bag and made my way down the stairs and out the door. I didn't have time to get breakfast. I took the whole morning getting ready and making sure I looked good for my first day.
"Hey! Have fun today!" I paused on the sidewalk and turned to see my neighbor waving at me.
"Thanks Mrs.Shapiro!" I waved back before continuing on my walk to school.
The school was literally a block from my house so I arrived way before everyone else. Which was good it would give me time to find my class and not be lost in the halls. I made my way into the building only spotting a few other students.
Stopping at my locker and placing my bag inside and pulling out my sheet music and a few other books before closing my locker. I made my way around a small corner and bumped right into someone. My books and myself tumbled to the ground. Along with the person I bumped into.
"Sorry.." I mumbled and I began to pick up my books. And pushed my glasses up on my face.
"It's fine..I'm sorry. I should really watch where I'm walking." I finished gathering my books and looked up at the boy I ran into.
His hair was a mess and he adjusted his glasses on his face before picking up a puppet and standing up. Offering me a hand. I took it gladly and he helped me off of the ground.
"Your new. I'm uh Robbie." He held out his hand and I shook it.
"I'm y/n and yeah I'm new."
"What do you play?"
"What?" He motioned to my sheet music and I laughed.
"Sorry I forgot I'm at a completely different school. Guitar." I tried my best to hide how nervous I was about this whole encounter.
"Oh! I play guitar too! Maybe we could practice together sometime?"
"Sure. That would be awesome!" I was glad that he wanted to hang out. Maybe I would get a friend out of this and things wouldn't be so bad here.
"Robbie let's go man!" I turned to see a boy with a piano and dreads waving at Robbie.
"Sorry my friends are waiting for me. I'll see you later?" I turned back to face him and smiled.
"Yeah. See you later Robbie." I gave him one last smile before walking in the opposite direction in search of my class. Once I arrived I thought back on the encounter and I was glad I bumped into him. He seemed really nice.
I had already been through two classes and as I made my way to my third I was getting sorta bummed out. I had made several attempts at making a friend with someone besides Robbie, but it seemed that no one here could be bothered to even have the decency to carry on a conversation with me. It's probably because I was a little bit of a nerd, but I didn't think those stereotypes still mattered, but I seemed to be wrong.
The bell rang and I huffed jogging the rest of the way to class. Opening the door I paused as everyone turned to look at me and I grew embarrassed.
"Your late!" The teacher pointed at me..at least I think he was the teacher. He kinda looked like a hobo.
"She's new." I turned to the familiar voice and spotted Robbie.
"Ah new blood..take a seat. Let us begin! Tori!" He jumped at a girl and she screamed in her seat before he walked up the stage.
I turned back to Robbie and he motioned to the seat next to him and I smiled before making my way over to where he was. Sitting in the seat I turned to whisper to him.
"Thank you."
"Your welcome."
"What class do you have next?" He asked me and I shrugged pulling out my schedule and handing it to him. He looked over it before handing it back.
"Robbie! Place!" I looked on as the teacher quickly pointed to Robbie and he shrugged.
"Uh Paris." The teacher then called three students on stage and Robbie leaned back over to me.
"Don't worry you get used to it, but you have lunch next so you can sit with me?"
"Yeah I'd like that. Thank you."
He smiled at me before I turned my attention back to the lesson. On and off through the class me and Robbie carried on conversation. Once the bell rang he led me to where lunch was.
"You guys get to have lunch outside? That's awesome!" I stood next to Robbie and he laughed.
"Yeah it's nice..I have to buy lunch if you wanted to sit you could."
"I think I'll just stick with you."
"Okay. Did you bring lunch?"
"What? No, I forgot it." I shrugged and we made our way to the front of the line.
"Let me buy you lunch." He pulled out his wallet.
"No, you don't have to do that." I waved my hands in protest, but he wouldn't take no for an answer so I picked out something small and Robbie handed it to me before leading me to a table.
"So what did you do to get in?" He asked once we had settled into our seats.
"Oh..just danced."
"That's awesome you have to show me sometime if you don't mind."
"Yeah of course." I smiled and we settled into a small silence as we ate our lunches.
Eventually lunch ended and we had to part ways to our individual classes, but not before he walked me to class and offered to walk me to my next one.
"Didn't you say you had class on the other side of the building?" I turned to face him and he shrugged.
"Y-yeah I do, but I can leave early.."
"Okay.."
"See you after class good looking." I turned to look at Rex before rolling my eyes.
"See you after class Rex. Robbie." I turned into my class and took a seat.
He was a little weird, but he was the only person being nice to me and I really appreciated that. So I didn't mind the little weirdness and I was sure I could get used to Rex.
Robbie was waiting outside of my class like he said and we had a pretty fun conversation about his friends on the way to my final class.
"She dumped coffee on her? She sounds a little mean, but pretty cool."
"Yeah Jade's a little scary, but I think you and Cat will get along pretty well."
"Yeah she sounds pretty nice." I sighed and stopped at the door of my final class.
"Thanks for walking me." I smiled at him and he laughed.
"It's no problem." I bid him goodbye before opening the door to the classroom.
"I can walk you home though...if you want." I paused and then turned to look at him.
"Sure." A smile stretched across his face and I walked into class.
I couldn't wait for class to be over. Me and Robbie had a lot in common and I really liked him. He was so nice to me and no one else here had offered me the same kindness he did.
I waited for the bell to ring and when it did I jumped up from my chair and made my way out into the hall. I was disappointed to find Robbie wasn't waiting for me and decided to walk to my locker.
But I was surprised to find that he was waiting by my locker.
"You know where my locker is?" I questioned him as I got closer.
"It was on your schedule..I kinda memorized it."
"It's okay. Just let me get my bag." I quickly opened my locker and pulled out my bag throwing it over my shoulder before I followed Robbie out of the building. We walked in silence for a few minutes before we found something to talk about.
"Y'know this is the way to my house." Robbie laughed and I laughed with him.
"That's weird I wonder how far away you are from me?"
"Guess I'll find out soon huh?" I laughed at his words nodding in agreement.
"Thanks for helping me out today."
"Yeah it's no problem!"
"We should hang out sometime." I looked over at him and he blushed.
"I'd like that."
"Me too." I began to slow my walk down as we grew closer to my house.
"Well...we're here." I stopped at my house and turned to face Robbie and he was shocked.
"No way? That's your house?" He pointed to my house and I laughed.
"Well yeah?"
"This is my house." He pointed to the house next to mine and I laughed. No wonder he was shocked.
"Your mom is Mrs.Shapiro?"
"Yeah! I'm Robbie Shapiro."
"This is crazy..but pretty awesome!" I held my my hand up and he gave me a high five before walking up the sidewalk to his house and I walked up the sidewalk to mine.
"You want to come over for dinner?" He looked over at me and I smiled.
"Sure." I waved goodbye to him before walking into my house and shutting the door. I had the feeling me and Robbie would be much more than friends pretty soon. I mean he was kinda growing on me..

Look at what a mess we made
Not exaggerating, Trina Vega was the best big sister ever
Jade was cold and calculating, a scissor-obsessed gank. Many freshmen would sometimes go so far as to call her a bitch that’s hit in the head. Then they would get hit. All in all, she was a nightmare of Hollywood Arts. On the other hand, although she often resorted to violence, Jade seemed to prefer striking fear into people’s bones. The students would be out of her way solely by seeing her deadly gaze. If that didn’t work, a pair of scissors would follow it.
On the other hand, Beck was calm, sweet and always kind to people... And, God, his hair! All in all, it was never clear to Trina how they could have ever been together (even if it only lasted two years, with a lot of breakups). And, finally, she had an opportunity to get together with him, and she was not going to miss it.
An opportunity, which was definitely not a well thought out plan... But, oh well. Andre and Cat had an idea - Since Cat was Jade’s best friend, she thought she might have something with Vega, and Andre, being Tori’s best friend, thought the same. Beck and Robbie in that case were just silent observers who would occasionally give a different account of the situation.
And there came the interesting part. They had a whole plan figured out, they just needed Trina to help them execute it. And if it just happened to fit into her plan to get rid of Jade (just in case) and try to get together with Beck...
Trina Vega was the best big sister ever and there was no doubt. Because, even though Tori was definitely not the most talented (or the prettiest, obviously) in the family, she still cared about her. So, there was only one thing that bothered her – Jade, of course. But what could an evil gank be compared to someone like Beck?
And that is how just one text message started a huge mess.
_________________________________________
The plan was quite simple - Trina would hide Tori’s phone and lend her hers. Then, Cat, Robbie, Andre, Tori, Jade and Beck would go to a (supposedly) haunted house. They would lock Jade in one of the rooms, tell Tori that she’s decided to stay, and then go to Robbie’s for the movie night. What after that, you may ask? From home, Trina would ask Jade for „help“ from Tori’s phone, because „she is also stuck in one of the rooms of the haunted house“. After that... well... She guessed it would happen somehow.
„Trina, have you seen my phone?“, Tori asked.
Trying to look natural (though with all her talent she didn’t have to act at all), she shrugged, biting into her pickle. „Why are you making that weird face?“, Tori wrinkled her nose. Then, as planned, at exactly eight past ten, the doorbell rang.
„Hey, chicka!“, Andre and Cat walked in.
She had wandered too far thinking about the whole plan, because she somehow missed the rest of the conversation. All she remembered was that they were about to leave, but Tori couldn’t find her phone. Right according to the plan. „Take mine.“, Trina offered, unusually kind.
She was obviously suspicious. Fortunately, as if on cue, Cat spoke up, „Robbie just texted me they’ve arrived, we have to go.“
And so Trina Vega, for the third time that day, with a smile, mentally sealed the role of the best older sister ever. Ha, she might as well buy herself another one of those fake trophies!
A torturous hour passed before Andre finally texted her. „Go.“
Without missing a beat, she ran to her room, where Tori’s phone was hidden under her pillow, and texted Jade:
Me: Jade
Me: JADEEEEE
Me: I got into a room and I can’t come out
The answer came faster than she expected.
ScissorsLuv: Well, I guess there’s nothing str8 about that, right?
ScissorsLuv: ;)
What the fuck? Did Jade West just flirt with her? And, what the hell would Tori say in that situation? Something painfully boring, for sure.
Me: I don’t know what you’re talking about. I can’t get out. Help me, please
ScissorsLuv: Beg me
Me: It’s not funny!
ScissorsLuv: Okay, just
ScissorsLuv: Screw it. Shit. I was upstairs, I think I pulled the lock too hard. I can’t open the door.
So, Trina would probably write something like „KSHDAHDAHHAHAHDAHHB KARMA, BITCH“, but this was supposed to be Tori texting. That meant that even in frivolous situations, she would act stupidly caring.
Me: Are you okay?
ScissorsLuv: Vega, please
ScissorsLuv: Something similar happened in The Scissoring, I’m practically living my dream
ScissorsLuv: Although, they shouldn’t be starting with me, but with the pretty one, you know what they say ;)
Trina frowned. Jade would never tell anyone that they are beautiful, even if it was a threat (how could that possibly be taken as a threat? Ask people like her.), which this was definitely not. She decided to change the subject, taking a safer route.
Me: Wanna play a game?
ScissorsLuv: You wanna do it texting? Damn, I always knew you had a dirty mind, Vega
ScissorsLuv: Shoot
Pure terror spread through Trina’s body. How wonderful. She couldn’t stop imagining it now. Wait! Did that mean...? Were they...?
Me: I meant more like truth or dare
ScissorsLuv: What are you? Five?
Me: ...
ScissorsLuv: FINE
ScissorsLuv: Go ahead before I slam my tongue into the car door
ScissorsLuv: When is your squeaky sister out of the house?
It took every ounce of self-control Trina could muster not to text her who was squeaky.
Me: Don’t say that! She’s a great singer! And how did you know what I would choose?
ScissorsLuv: Isn’t the truth what you choose every time?
ScissorsLuv: Cause of some stupid thing you read online about trust in relationships, or whatever
ScissorsLuv: Now seriously, I have something important to ask you
She didn’t have time to process this part with the relationship. If she got into something she shouldn’t have, she’d have to play her part as best she could and get out of it, or Jade would kill her.
Me: What is it?
ScissorsLuv: Are you high?
Me: What are you talking about?
ScissorsLuv: The last person who liked Trina’s singing was Sikowitz
ScissorsLuv: And he was high at that moment
ScissorsLuv: So...
Me: It’s not funny!
ScissorsLuv: Whatever, Vega. Did you call any of the idiots? No one is answering me :/
Shit... Shit! How come none of them thought of that before? Panicking, she told Beck to get Tori out of that house as soon as possible.
Me: Cat just texted me. They’re going to get something to knock down the door with. They can’t get to the owner
Me: Anyway, I wanted to ask you something
ScissorsLuv: I’m listening
Trina knew Tori well enough to know that she would write something stupid and deeply insecure now.
Me: I don’t know... It’s stupid
ScissorsLuv: Vegaaaa
Me: Have you ever thought about your sexuality
Me: ...
Me: ?
ScissorsLuv: Is this some kind of prank to get me back for yesterday?
So, at that moment, the worst thing possible to ask would be what happened yesterday... But, curiosity won.
Me: What exactly? You mistreat me 24/7
ScissorsLuv: The time I sent you those photos in class and Dickers saw it, so he gave you detention
ScissorsLuv: So you're finally paying me back?
ScissorsLuv: Will Tawny Walker Black walk into the room now?
ScissorsLuv: Because I would kind of like that...
ScissorsLuv: And I don’t get why he was so mad, he’s surname is DICKers after all, he should’ve loved them
Trina had to clear this up and now. Otherwise, Jade would freak out and probably start yelling. Tori would hear her and no one would be able to stop her after that.
Me: I like you
Her hands were shaking. This was stupid, incredibly stupid... Come to think of it, Jade flirted with everyone as a joke, and she and Tori did have a bit of a weird relationship... What if she misread the situation? What if there was nothing between them? Her thoughts were interrupted by Jade’s reply.
ScissorsLuv: HADHADDGVDAHPABHJFAJ
ScissorsLuv: Seriously
ScissorsLuv: I thought that we were over with the phase of dramatic confessions
So they were... A few minutes passed without any messages. She was beginning to worry that Jade had figured out their plan, or that she started yelling and Tori heard her.
ScissorsLuv: Vega
ScissorsLuv: I hear footsteps
ScissorsLuv: I think they've arrived
Well, shit.
_________________________________________
Before Jade knew what was going on, footsteps began to move away. „Andre!“, she shouted. „Cat? GUYS!“, As an answer, she heard even more and more distant footsteps. She texted Tori.
Me: Vega? What the fuck is going on? Why are they leaving?
ToriV: I think they’re coming back for that tool...
Something wasn’t quite right. Although Tori almost always typed like that, something was wrong. Why’d the others ignore her? Why didn’t anyone stay in the house? „SHAPIRO! OLIVER! I’LL DECORATE MY CHRISTMAS TREE WITH YOUR GUTS IF YOU DON’T OPEN ME UP!“, Her throat was hoarse from yelling, but it didn’t matter. She heard footsteps growing louder. Someone was coming back. Whoever it was, the others followed them.
Satisfied that her threats had worked, she smiled smugly. However, her smile was wiped off her face when she heard Cat, Beck and Tori arguing. The words were slurred, but she could tell who was saying what. Vega was out? „Open the fucking door!“
The footsteps became louder, the voices more distant. „Wait!“. She heard Tori say.
„We told you, Jade is staying at the house to shoot a short movie, she’ll join us later. She’s not shouting at us, she’s playing a role of hostage. Let’s just go.“
„Cat does every short movie with her! Then why isn’t she there?“, Vega objected.
„She specifically told me not to film this one with her.“, Cat said.
„I’M NOT FUCKING ACTING! OPEN IT, YOU MORONS!“, She yelled, pounding on the door like crazy.
A few seconds passed in complete silence and Jade was afraid that they had actually left. Then she heard them arguing again, Tori’s voice louder than all of theirs. To her immense relief, door opened the next second. „Vega...“, she respired. Behind her, Cat was wringing her hands, Beck was avoiding her gaze, Andre was biting his lip, and Robbie just squealed and ran out of the house. Jade guessed she looked like she was going to kill them all right now, since Tori reached out to take her scissors. „What the fuck, people? Why did you capture me?“
Then she received another notification.
ToriV: Did they arrive?
She directed her gaze towards Tori, who wasn’t even holding  a phone in her hands. It was in the front pocket of her jeans. Jade frowned, connecting the dots.
Me: No. But they better be here soon, or I’ll kill all of them
_________________________________________
„So you two are like... a couple?“; The truth was that all of their friends knew that they had a thing but thought they were too scared to admit it even to themselves. Plus, they never told them they were dating. How the hell was Trina supposed to know? Or anyone else?
„We thought it was pretty obvious, it’s not like we were trying to hide it... Jade?“, Tori said unnaturally calmly.
The other girl still looked like she was about to kill someone. „Yes?“
„Remember when I gave you back your scissors? I’m gonna need them for a moment.“, quite reluctantly, Jade did so. Tori turned to Trina. „You have five seconds!“
Her sister might not have been Jade West, but Trina still knew it was a not good idea to be anywhere near an angry girl with scissors. Maybe them, becoming a couple, wasn’t such a good idea after all...  How often would Trina have to put up with Jade in the house, now that everyone knew about them? But that didn’t matter now. Tori was chasing her up the stairs and she had to run away from her. She might not have gotten together Beck (yet), but still...
Trina Vega, was the best big sister in the history of existence. Running away from her furious younger sister, she made a mental note to write it on one of her next trophies.

i'll need to update ethan's bio & whatnot, but it bears mentioning on both blogs that wade & vanessa claiming that they didn't "deem it necessary" to train ethan in martial arts - despite both of them being years past TAV & SK winners - is nothing more than a smokescreen to hide ethan's genuine strength/knowledge in the sport, & to some extent, his eldritch nature.
all three of the wilsons didn't want ethan's genuine knowledge to be displayed & potentially taken advantage of by anyone, nor did ethan want to be seen as a threat, because he's tired of accidentally hurting humans who don't deserve it, & he desperately wants to learn how to STOP, because he feels like he's proving his Creators right, that he IS the monster they think he is. which is why ethan pretends to be a novice. he sells it incredibly well throughout s1-s3, like he's breathing. he doesn't try getting on the wheel - sam nor robby could match his height, anyway, so there wouldn't be that fairness. No One knows he's faking literally anything, except for my own eldritch oc's, who know him inside & out. none of them will expose his secrets, though. none of them would do that to their closest friend. this chaotic eldritch motherfucker can & will ACT his ass off when the situation calls for it. it's something he very quickly picked up from the humans he would come to live among trillions of years in the future: the art of deception. how to lie, & sell a lie well.
ethan wants to "build up" his defense in a more peaceful setting, without the pressure of ck/johnny's expectations to be the Best looming over him. it's why he joins miyagi-do over cobra kai. he wants to protect himself, the people ethan would eventually come to view as friends or lovers, & find inner peace... something johnny & certainly kreese's cobra kai didn't offer. that balance & those more peaceful teachings are missing from cobra kai, & it's not something ethan wanted to pursue for various reasons. not to mention, going straight into offensive maneuvers, & showing off his knowledge/strengths with cobra kai would have set off red flags in kreese's mind ( when he comes around ). that was something he wanted to avoid at all costs, & he did.
that pretending is the very reason why there's massive inconsistencies in his strength later on, in s4/s5 - particularly after @taughtpain / robby joins cobra kai - to his growing, almost uncontainable bloodlust in season 5 because of his near death experience at the hands of silver ( either my own npc version or @opponentcompel ), to after said bloodlust subsides with silver's arrest & ck's takedown, making him revert back to "normal".
wade & vanessa being winners of TAV/ST - & them + ethan being from that earth - is a fabrication in & of itself; ethan used of his memory manipulation ability on the entire world prior to walker!ethan creating his leo!vessel self to exist in that universe, then entered the world ck takes place in, with both of his parents in tow. he basically inserted himself & his parents into the narrative - all for reasons ethan will never explain to anyone even in his eldrtich nature reveal verse... not even to his fiancés/fiancées. that's mostly to spare them the confusion & surefire existentialism that conversation would bring.
although, what ethan told daniel upon first meeting him remains true: he doesn't want to hurt anyone, he just wants to protect himself & his friends. it's all he's ever wanted.
that's his main motivation behind every single thing he does. doesn't matter if it's good or bad, right or wrong, smart or dangerous. ex: in a fit of protective anger, singlehandedly confronting robby & the rest of cobra kai directly after he finds out that hawk's mohawk was shaved off by them. sometimes directly stepping into a fight or keeping an eye on sam during any of the miyagi-do vs. cobra kai fights. defending robby from what the valley thinks about him in aftermath of the school fight in s3. putting an arm out in front of robby & tory to push them both behind him during the miyagi-fang vs. cobra kai rumble in 5x10, then once again when silver shows up at the dojo glares at them.
it's why he directly stupidly confronted silver alone after he found out about stingray's beating, & the way robby started acting in season 4 when silver came into the fold. the No Mercy mindset of robby really fucked with his head - not to mention the betrayal ( something ethan'd never really experienced before ).
that's who ethan wilson is at his core - someone who would do ANYTHING & EVERYTHING he can in a "human" way to protect his friends & loved ones from harm, especially if they've been hurt by someone else's actions, or if he feels like they've been wronged, used or manipulated somehow.

Authors note:
We swear to god, literally nobody is asking for these fics, but we just can’t stop making them. Lmfao they are all completely self-indulgent- regardless, hope ya’ll enjoy.
We swear we’re actually drawing, we just write these when our wrist disability hurts too much to draw- expect art this week tho-
Anyways, soriel for the soul. Theyre both dancing around each others feelings in this fic, cuz they both doubt that the other feels the same way. So have fun reading that.
TW: past self-harm. Not detailed.
-------------------
Toriel always strived to be honest with herself and those around her. Honesty was a policy she held with the upmost respect. It was a policy so important to her, that she always attempted to install it into her children.
Sans, however, didn’t seem to understand that importance.
It bothered her, to say the least, that Sans held so many secrets. She witnessed upfront as he lied to everyone. He lied about staying up late. He lied about going to the bar. He lied about why he was tired. He lied about how he was feeling.
It infuriated her, if she were to be honest. It made her so frustrated she wished to scream. She could suddenly relate deeply in her soul just how difficult of a time Papyrus must have with Sans’s demeanors.
So she decided to address it. The problem was that she wanted to speak to Sans one-on-one, and that was ever so difficult in a household of business and non-stop movement. So, she waited. She waited for the day to come, just as patiently as she waited for another child to fall from above, to bless her during her times in the Ruins.
And then the day came. October 5th. Papyrus, Undyne, and Alphys headed out with Frisk, to see Celest. Sans decided to stay behind, claiming to be “too lazy” to go. So there he was, lying on the couch, huddled under a blanket. Staring emptily at the TV, which wasn’t even turned on.
It was a perfect chance. A perfect time for confrontation.
She sat down beside him. His eyelights slowly made eye-contact. That ever-present smile on his face seemed to relax, as if a bit more genuine within her presence. Her soul skipped a beat.
“’sup, Tori?” his voice came out in a half-whisper, as if he lacked the energy to even speak. In fact, the further she examined him, the more her soul tightened. His bones were slack, and not in the lazy way. In a way that mirrored her time on the Ruin’s floor; that mirrored hopelessness. His eyelights were dim, as if he just didn’t have even the slightest bit of energy to keep them lit. Not to mention the ever-growing eye bags under his eyesockets…
Without thinking, she placed a hand on his cheek. He looked taken aback. She felt taken aback. A tense air of silence grew between the two, for several minutes.
“…uh…Tori?” he questioned, his voice almost holding a cautious tone, as if concerned he may set her off, “y’know, its pawsome that’cha wanna join me, but why dontcha cmere fur real?” he offered, extending his arms for a hug.
It was at that moment – such a simple, kind, and endearing gesture – that made Toriel realize just how wrong she was about her own emotions.
She was never angry with him. She was worried. Absolutely terrified for him and how casually he denied his own health. Her closest and dearest friend – someone whom she had questioned her own feelings towards at night, wondering if maybe they weren’t so platonic – was denying himself the road of recovery. Above all else…she was terrified to lose another person again. Especially one so dear to her mind and soul.
He helped her in her darkest times. When she was at her lowest, sobbing at the Ruins door, waiting for her dear children who she knew would never return. When she was beginning to fall into darkness, he came with the light, offering her laughter and conversation. All she wanted to do was offer him that same sunshine (or, as he would say “sanshine”) in return.
She pulled him into a firm, but gentle, hug. As close to her body as she could get. Sans’s eyesockets somehow went wider, as if truly surprised at the enthusiasm of her embrace. Despite that, he didn’t hesitate to hug her back, his bony fingers gently curling against her night-gown.
“…Sans.” She spoke, her voice trembling too much for her own liking, her eyes threatening to form tears “I am…ever so sorry for denying your needs.”
Sans genuinely seemed very taken aback with that. He didn’t exactly seem to know how to respond. Instead, he looked up at her, examining her own expression. As if trying to read her to come up with a response. But instead, it just left the two staring at one another, heat slowly rising and shading both of their faces with blush. Toriel was the one to break eye-contact, whipping her head to the left. The action seemed to break Sans out of whatever trance he had fallen in.
“i-its, uh, not really your respon-sans-bility, Tori. kinda up to me to eat my teeth and brush my veggies,” he joked, though she couldn’t bring herself to laugh. She just felt like such a neglectful friend. She even had the audacity to have allowed herself to feel angry at him. Why did she always have to be so bitter over things that gave her grievance? It truly was a problem, just like Frisk had pointed out…
How does one respond to a situation like this, anyway? How does one appropriately express just how strongly they feel for their best friend?
Toriel’s instinctive response was to bury her face into his side, whispering a soft “...I have responsibility for you, Sans. You’re my dearest friend.”
Sans shivered. Whether it was from her words or her face in his neck, she was unsure. His grip against her grew tight and intense, almost as if he was trying to keep her from leaving. She was all-game with that.
“…T-Tori, you, erm, don’t have to be…don’t have’ta be so fuzzed up over it, eheh...” he seemed to be losing grip over his own words. It wasn’t a surprise, if she were to be honest. Despite how cool and collected Sans was in most situations, he always seemed to melt into awkwardness when given genuine affection. It was…kind of adorable.
“Oh, Sans…” she laughed, gently rubbing her hands against his back. He was so small, compared to her. Her paws could easily cover his entire head. Oddly, that was one of the things about him that she liked the most. Perhaps his size is what made her all the more desperate to hold him.
“You must understand…seeing you in pain, it devastates me to the bone...”
If he wanted to use humor to flee her concerns, she was going to use humor to express them. She found that using his own mechanisms against him had worked very well thus-far. It is how she had gotten past his armor in past events as well.
“y…you’re wasting your time getting worked up over a numbskull like me,” he responded with a half-hearted shrug. Toriel hardly even noticed that her hands had begun to wander, tracing over the exposed bones of his arms. Frisk had stolen his jacket earlier, which left him in a lone t-shirt, readily available for her touch. Although some may complain over bones being uncomfortable to cuddle with, Toriel had always found it to be comforting. The smooth coolness, with occasional callousness…it was almost addicting to touch. And Toriel was a very touch person, even though it was often subconscious.
Sans gasped when her claws ran over the scars on his upper arms. He let out a long, quiet whimper, his arms trembling. She halted her touch immediately, shooting him a look of concern. Had she gone too far? What should she say? Was she breaching their friendship? She wasn’t even sure if he felt the same way she did…would he berate her for making such a move?
He blushed heavily, one hand slipping away from her back, and instead gently embracing one of her paws, his phalanges brushing over the soft skin that protruded from her fur. He glanced at the scars she had been touching. His eyes grew weary, and his eyelights dimmed further.
“look…Tori I…”
She interrupted immediately. He did not need to defend himself, when she so clearly had gone too far, “Please, do not apologize. I am at fault here. I have been informed in the past that my touches are…invasive, and I-“
Sans immediately drew his hands away, vigorously waving them and shaking his head, “no, no, you’re- its not that- i don’t mind that,” he assured, before that burst of energy faded, and his hands fell to his side, “i just…these scars, they…i…” he sighed, his chest deflating. He put his hands on his head, as if suffering from a headache. “they’re old, yknow? if seein’ these is what gotcha all worked up- i’m happier now, y’know? Paps and Grillbz…they got me outta that. i ain’t perfect, but i’m sure as hell…i’m better than then. y’feel?“
Toriel felt her soul drop. The implications of that…it reminded her so strongly of when she had found Chara, hidden away in the closet, arms and legs-…no, she couldn’t think about that for too long. It was too heartbreaking to recall.
She wrapped her arms around Sans, giving him a bear hug (or rather, boss-monster hug.) He hugged her in return, resting his head on her chest, as if she were a pillow.
“Oh, Sans…I am ever so proud of you for you’re recovery…” she cradled his head into her hands, rubbing her thumb against the side of his cheek. Her hands really were big enough to almost cover his entire skull, “…I just wish you would be honest that you are still suffering…even if it is not in quite the same way…”
Sans seemed to be contemplating her words, causing silence to fall over them both. She did not mind. It gave her time to examine him and truly appreciate him. His blush, ever so lightly dusted on his cheeks. His skull, gently leaning into her hands. His bones, healthy and strong…they had grown so much healthier, gaining a shiney glow and all-around thickness over the last few months. Coming to the surface, being out with friends, letting the sunshine on his bones…it all had definitely improved his health, which made Toriel so unbelievably happy. The first time she had held him, she had feared he would fall apart in her arms…now, he seemed sturdy and full. His HoPe had even improved, settling at 2 over the last few months. In a few more months, it may even move up to 3. She hoped it would.
Yes, he was recovering well. It helped subside her worries for him. Sans’s voice broke her out of her thoughts. She was unsure how much time had passed- ten minutes, perhaps?
“my doctor recommended me a therapist. Paps has been tryna get me to go,” he shrugged indifferently, “i don’ really know if it’ll do anything.’ might be worth a shot, tho. not like i have anythin’ better t’do.
A therapist. That is something she had long hated herself for not getting Chara. Chara always insisted they did not need it, and that things were getting better. For a while, she believed them…and now, she had learned her lesson. One of the first things she had done was find Frisk a therapist when they moved to the surface. She hoped, with all her heart, that it would give them the support she was unsure how to provide.
Perhaps, if Sans had one, they would be able to give him the support he needed as well.
“You should,” she agreed, nodding, “And if you needed any support…I would join you. I know your confidence is not the greatest, and would want you to feel comfortable sharing…if an old lady such as I could even encourage you at all.”
He chuckled, “you always encourage me, Tori. you’re my best friend.”
Toriel kissed him on the forehead, to which he sunk down like a turtle attempting to hide in a shell. He probably would have looked like one too, if only he had his hoodie. She couldn’t help but laugh.
“So long as you allow it, I shall always be your best friend, my love. I promise.”
And she intended to live up to that promise. She held on to it, even as the two fell into silence. Even as the handsome young skeleton fell asleep in her arms. Even as she herself fell asleep. Even as time marched on, and the days flew by, and the weather grew cold.
Toriel valued promises. Toriel valued honesty. Toriel valued recovery.
But more than that, she valued having Sans near. Regardless of what relationship she and him may hold.
And that was something she prayed to God, and even deities she didn’t believe in, would never slip away.

I can see why this book got popular, but it's not for me. It's a wish-fulfillment power fantasy, and like the main guy in Sword Art Online, Darcy and Tory are bland enough for readers to project on one or both of them. I found it just... meh.
The book is 400+ pages of set-up with very little payoff. We find out who the mysterious "Falling Star" is at the end, but it didn't feel satisfying learning that. It was just "Here's this mysterious person who seems to be helping but we aren't sure! Okay, here they are and their identity!" It would have been better to have more breadcrumbs and for Falling Star to play a bigger role than they did. It would have helped the big scene at the end.
I don't plan on reading the other books, but I was still curious what Order the twins were, and thankfully the books are popular enough to have a Wiki. I expected to learn what they were in this book, and when that didn't happen, maybe book 2. But book 3?! That feels too late.
A big part of this book was Darcy and Tory feeling like outsiders. They had been raised in the human world, and so many people in Zodiac Academy seemed to he against them from the start or at least were enjoying seeing them flail and fall. And since a university is a perfect backdrop to infodump while still making it flow naturally in the story, the twins learning about all the different Orders and discovering theirs could have made for a really good turn in the story, solving one mystery but potentially having it raise the stakes, if they need to keep quiet and continue playing dumb in order to find out more about the attacks and who's targeting them.
A faery's Order has been established as having multiple things influencing it, like genetics and their zodiac. A person's zodiac is supposed to be important, but other than occasionally showing the girls' daily zodiac, this isn't shown, which is a wasted opportunity. Astrology charts are more than just someone's sun sign, and despite any feelings of the relevance they have on real life, in fiction, they can offer so much. It would have been nice to see this worked into the world more, but world-building felt to be more of an after-thought.
I wanted to like the book. I love reading different approaches to using faeries, and the premise sounded nothing special but is my preference for modern fantasies. The main character/s discovering they're actually magical and now having to navigate this whole new world can be a lot of fun and an easy way to learn about the world, since the protagonist is having to learn about it, too.
But since it's mainly a power fantasy, I won't go much into the magical system or how OP the protagonists are. Doing so would make this post too long, anyway.

Thank you @dykesynthezoid
This seemed fun so I'll try it out 😭
3 ships:
1. Lawrusso- I'm a basic bitch. Leave me alone😭. Come on fam it's rivals mixed in with 35 year history mixed in with in with the problem with toxic masculinity mixed in with breaking the cycle of abuse mixed in with different ways of coping and realizing they aren't healthy (ex: Johnny drinking and Daniel totally thinking that pretending everything is fine or going from 2-10 VERY fast)- Just smacking Lawrusso on the head like " this bad boy can fit so much shit-damn go to therapy together."
2. Samtory- Wanna rewatch the series again and focus on them more really adore them/love their dynamic. Like it's funny walking into the show and seeing Robby and Miguel interacting and going on this is supposed to be our Johnny and Daniel? And then you see Tory and Sam interacting and you're like not only is this supposed to be our Daniel and Johnny but also- hello?👀
3. I have list, but to mix it up with different fandom- Grayghost- Danny, and Val really was that end-game feeling. I remember jokingly saying they had to keep Val out of season 3 as much as possible because if Danny even made eye contact for more than 1 minute, that would be it. It's funny cause they seem like the most natural relationship out of the whole show, yet the one they want people to like last minute is the one they had a whole episode on why they shouldn't be together/not ready for that.
1st ever ship:
Damn- I don't know to judge this one. Cause it can range from anywhere to I thought they should be together when I first saw something or searched content for it. Going with Alice and Kyo from Alice the 19th aka the manga set I found at goodwill at 12-
Tumblr media
I am 1000% sure 12-year-old me should have not been reading this with all the dark shit happening

Page through dozens and dozens of amazing book covers featuring well-dressed skeletons, evil dolls, and knife-wielding killer crabs! Read shocking plot summaries that invoke devil worship, satanic children, and haunted real estate! Horror author and vintage paperback book collector Grady Hendrix offers killer commentary and witty insight on these trashy thrillers that tried so hard to be the next Exorcist or Rosemary’s Baby. Complete with story summaries and artist and author profiles, this unforgettable volume dishes on familiar authors like V. C. Andrews and R. L. Stine, plus many more who’ve faded into obscurity.
Last movie:
I was supposed to watch Friday the 13th yesterday
I could be wrong cause my friend and I saw a bunch of movies that weekend but "Lost cat corona," which now has one of my favorite movie quotes said/top 10, aka "HAVE YOU SEEN MY FUCKING CAT?"
Currently consuming:

Currently watching:
Art videos- I like listening to things while drawing, and artists rambling about stories or their own art experiences are one of them.
Currently craving:
Go Go Curry 😭
I'm always so happy when I get to do these things/when people tag me! But feel like I'm annoying when tagging people- Just know you don't have to do this! 😭

Thess vs Idiotic Policies
New bit of stupid in the race for the Tory leadership, and thus the PM-ship:
Rishi Sunak is talking about how, if he wins, he will ‘phase out degrees that do not lead to high-paying jobs’.
Now, one part of his scheme actually makes some sense - investing in schools that do trade qualifications. But the rest of it is simply bullshit. Because we all know what ‘degrees that do not lead to high-paying jobs’ means to people like Sunak. It means the arts and humanities. It means English, media studies, art, history, stuff like that. It means scrapping everything that isn’t STEM or, like, Economics.
The thing is, it’s stupid, and it’s just him saying words, and it will not happen for a lot of reasons that he seems entirely unable to see:
If he really wants to scrap degrees like that, he’s going to have to start insisting that jobs that don’t really need degrees stop asking for degrees. A lot of senior admin positions require a degree. English tends to be a good one to ask for. Thing is, I speak from experience when I say that a secretary doesn’t need a degree and getting a good job as a secretary shouldn’t rely on a degree. Someone who did a STEM degree is probably going to want to use it, and a secretarial role won’t do that, and if Sunak scraps humanities degrees, we’re going to wind up with a worse admin situation than we already have.
Additionally, there are some jobs in this country that do actually require a humanities degree of some kind. Advertising. Journalism. Our various TV channels. Hell, theatre - this entire country is a theatre wonderland, and Sunak wants to scrap the degrees that let people do that for a living?
The universities themselves are going to have an issue with this, mostly on the level of “We need fee-paying students”. Forcing universities to strip down their degree offerings will mean fewer students, both from here and from abroad. That means less money for the universities. The universities would eat him.
Finally, it’s shooting the entire country in the foot, because all that will happen is that people will work harder to find degree offerings in their chosen field outside of the UK ... and then they won’t come back. Because frankly, at this point, who would? We’ve already lost so much talent from this country because of Brexit; why lose more to yet another insane government policy conceived by an individual with no idea how the economy outside “Rich people give me things if I do them favours” actually works?
On the whole, I know a lot of what’s being thrown out there as potential policy is both Sunak and Truss just saying anything that’ll get the 160k or so rich white people who make up the Conservative party membership voting for them in about a month. The thing is, I have to spend yet another month listening to this litany of ultra-right horror. Like when Sunak talked about expanding the remit of the PREVENT campaign (which is supposed to go after anyone grooming terrorists but which has already been criticised for ‘going after white extremists too hard and ignoring The Muslim Threat’, when it should be obvious by this point that white extremists are a way bigger problem right now). Sunak wants to expand it to deal with “anyone who vilifies the UK”. Because the Tories are such champions of free speech, right? He gets in, and actually acts on this bullshit, and I’m probably ending up in jail or deported by December.
So I’mma go find something that’s going to keep me from doomscrolling the Guardian politics live feed. Because this country terrifies me more and more every day.

So after watching the infamous five-hour Victorious video, there are....a lot of odd takeaways, but by far, I am still baffled by the writing of the Victorious games, particularly Victorious: Taking the Lead?
The game follows you, playing as Tori (the self-centered talented protagonist) or Jade (the self-centered talented antagonist) where you are trying to get the lead role as Vampire Juliet. Both Tori and Jade do well and are taken to callbacks voted on by, for some reason, only the boys in their theater class, which, ick. That's not the weird part.
Jade runs around giving all the boys in your friend group Pear Pads (the Victorious version of Ipads) which they're all zombified for to bribe them to vote for her. You run around breaking them all off their "hypnotism" from it in various ways, and afterwards, ask all the boys if they' vote for you, so this wasn't even an acting competition, it's a straight-up popularity contest? So, first of all, why is Jade in this friend group? She doesn't really seem to have a personality other than fighting with everyone around her.
One of the characters, Robbie, always carries a ventriloquist dummy he makes talk throughout the series and is treated like a seventh friend. For whatever reason, though they all go to an arts school, Robbie is treated like a weird actor and not a super talented ventriloquist? Mais alors. He is lost in his Pear Pad playing a video game, and had dropped Rex (the puppet) to play. You go back across the school, find his backpack, and get Rex, who I) starts talking by himself and II) offers to grant you a wish, in which you can either try to get him back to Robbie and awaken the part of his brain that voices Rex, or just ask to win the game, in which the game immediately ends.
Bringing Rex to Robbie doesn't work, so Rex advises you that Robbie can't resist dancing girls (like, the cha-cha-slide, but still), and you just? Get all your girl buddies and start doing a choreographed dance like this is a reasonable request and not super creepy, especially for a character in a friend group consisting of half girls?
So, big takeaways:
A) Dan Schneider is a massive creep, big surprise
B) In the Victorious universe, I could reasonably make a request like "Yo, Tori, I would love to go to the school dance party, but I would be too self-conscious without a [well-endowed] goth girlfriend." and she'd just go "Okay! Here's Jade" without even questioning this?
