'Cottages and Cerberus' is a new cottagecore monster-hunting TTRPG system.   Inspired by games such as Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, and Monster Hunter, you and your group of friends will live out your lives day to day in a cottage in a fantasy realm. You will hunt vicious monsters to gain materials and improve your cottage. The Core Rulebook includes 50+ monsters to hunt and slay, and each monster  comes with a hunt that is taken before the true fight can begin.

As part of this campaign we are offering special bestiaries for Pathfinder 2E and the D&D 5E. These bestiaries will be available as both PDFs and as a softcover book. Both are available individually in their own tier and also as add-ons.

Pick up and Play

Cottages & Cerberus is a cottagecore monster-slaying tabletop RPG. The game is simple to pick up but hard to put down. The base rules can be learned in minutes, and since each monster has a hunt— a mini adventure that leads up to the boss fight– you can pick one and start running within minutes. Quickstart characters found in the back of the book reduce the friction of having too many character choices, so players can just choose one and go. But, for those who want to nerd out creating your character and load out, you can spend hours picking the perfect abilities for your character. The rules are easy enough to learn quickly, but varied enough to support a vast array of complex and unique characters.

The core of the system involves making checks. When attempting a check, characters roll a number of six-sided dice based on their attributes and circumstances. The GM will then set a target number, determining how difficult the check is. Players will count the number of dice that rolled the target number or higher and then consult the chart below.

Spoons 

Spoons are the key resource system in C&C. They are an abstraction of a character's physical and mental capacity. The spoon resource system was inspired by the Spoon Theory, an abstract model created by Christine Miserandino that attempts to explain the energy cost of certain actions for people with chronic pain/illness and mental health conditions. Failing checks and being attacked by monsters cost players spoons, as do some abilities.

Cozy Mode 

While in Cozy Mode, you can make checks to do things such as fishing, gardening, crafting, and more. Success grants you Cozy Points. Gain enough Cozy Points and Miss Luna, the goddess of the Moon, will increase your Cottage Rank. In addition, the book presents an optional PC+NPC romance subsystem that is explicitly meant to emulate romance elements found in farming/life sim games.

Character creation in C&C is very simple but rich.  Character creation consists of 4 steps: assign your CALM, chose 3 ABILITIES, pick a VIBE and chose either a MAGIC ITEM or a PET

CALM

CALM refers to your attributes. These 4 scores (CHARM, ALCHEMY, LORE, and MUSCLE) range from 1 to 4 at character creation. Whenever you make a check, you roll a number of dice equal to one of these attributes. 

Abilities 

Next you chose 3 abilities from the over 200 abilities in the book. ABILITIES can have several tags. Abilities with labels like <ACTION> or <REACTION> are powerful combat-focused skills, while tags like <PASSIVE> or <POWER> denote abilities that offer creative, character-focused uses in and out of combat.

Vibes 

VIBES are the general energy your character gives off. Each vibe offers a way to restore spoons.

Pet or Magic item 

Magic Items can grant various benefits. Pets are fully loyal creatures that are controlled by the player. They have a miniature stat block and can be used both in and out of combat.

Start playing quickly 

If all of these character options feel overwhelming, don't worry! The book offers  options that can help you build your character. The back of the book also contains several quick start characters. 

Cozy Calling 

The book also presents an optional system called Cozy Callings. Each Cozy Calling includes a bit of lore and questions to help you write your backstory. They also include recommended abilities, and abilities written specially for that Calling (but available to all characters). Cozy Callings are optional, you can take several Callings or take none. A Cozy Calling is merely a starting point for creating your character. Cozy Callings in the book include concepts such as the Cheerleader and the Spell Knight.

Hunting mode is the a core part of the game loop in Cottages & Cerberus. After defeating a monster, players gain new materials that they can use to craft items for their cottage. There are over 50 monsters to slay in Cottages & Cerberus. Each monsters contains an hunt, a miniature adventure consisting of anywhere from 1 to 5+ scenes and minor challenges that must be completed in order to face the fearsome beast.

Quick and Brutual Boss Fights 

Fights in C&C are meant to be brutal, intense, but quick. These monster fights are explicitly meant to be BOSS fights, and the rules for combat are built to emulate intense battles. The monster starts each fight with an OPENER before its first real turn. Afterwards, it's the players turn. Players decide among themselves what order they want to take their actions. After all players have gone, the monster activates CLOSER abilities that auto-target based on which character(s) meets  certain conditions.  (As an example, one monster might have an ability that deals damage to the character with the most spoons).

Each monster also has challenges. Challenges come in two varieties. Hook Challenges offer plot hooks related to the monster. Variation Challenges represent subspecies of the monster that alter its ecology, lore and abilities.

i am here to post more things individual to me! this time, it's my top 25 video games. i am honestly not remotely content with this list and will update it around september of this year, and make it a tradition going forward. i never realized how hard it actually is to put this out on a chart/list. i always knew what i held dearly to my heart, but god when it came down to it, i had to REALLY think. imagining how this list will look by the end of this year is currently challenging. this chart is in no order besides grouping series. certain games will ALWAYS be on this list, most definitely the red dead series, and grand theft auto series. those are masterpieces, or damn near. red dead redemption ii is 100% the best game i've ever touched. the first redemption game i still highly regard to be one to stand the test of time. i have a fondness for fallout, there are many things to love, and things to not love, and that's all i'll say there for now. grand theft auto iv has one of the best stories i've played, and it's so played out but the VIBE of that game, the darkness, grittiness, it's great. san andreas is one of my childhood games, i owned so many copies because i was a stupid child. moving onto guitar hero, i still remember my first experience with it at my sister's, i remember getting my first copy of the game from fred's of all places. i mainly play clone hero nowadays, and am mostly average. i play expert, still have never got past that ttfaf intro. i got into wwe pretty early on in my life like most of these games, being able to watch the show weekly and hop in the games after school was special. cozy survival crafting is definitely one of my favorite things ever, and it's funny to call terraria cozy but it is to me LOL. i will never EVER understand terraria hate, how can you hate something so good? i have fallen out of love with minecraft over the years to the (in my opinion) underwhelming updates and odd direction the game has taken. with that however, the new auto-crafter and trial chambers look so sick. i want to say i got into stardew valley in 2018 and have loved it ever since, still haven't gotten through the beginning of ginger island though, maybe someday. ever since extremely late 2017 or early 2018, my main game has been fortnite: battle royale. at one point, i wanted to go pro and make a living streaming, but sadly i am NOT built for that. i've always loved zombies, first experience was probably like season 2-3 twd, and been hooked ever since. project zomboid was such an insane experience in february of last year. such an eye-opener. easily the best zombie game ever made. 7 days to die is also a great game, the impending doom you feel every week is fun and refreshing from what i normally play while still have that survival crafting i love. i grew up on tony hawk games and wasn't sure which ones to put but these were the standouts, and i didn't want to load the list up with a ton from one series. i remember spending all my savings as a kid on saints row: the third and i still wonder if that was a good decision or not. i have played tons of call of duty in my day, although i stopped at ghosts, and have dabbled in and out ever since. black ops is easily my favorite, the campaign, and multiplayer, agh. zombies even. modern warfare 2 is a classic and one i cannot ignore. ghost looks cool. i have played HELLA sims 3 in my lifetime, yes i have played the sims 4 and i can confidently say the sims 3 clears with ease. i dumped crazy hours into the console ports and the pc as well. around this final stretch of the list is where i really struggled so i went for nostalgia with atv off-road fury 2. that series and mx vs atv were definitely a blast to 10 and below me, and might even be today. i'm not quite sure. if anyone actually finishes this, i am sorry, for i am the rambler.

Hello Jude I am losing my mind waiting for my pakige. How is life treating you? I'm a month on T again! I think my voice is Doing things. But I also was getting over a head cold.... Such is life! (I am all better now!).

Anything fun planned? How are your ocs? What do they do on mundane days? Do your ocs live in a big city? Sometimes, without meaning to my ocs always ended up in a version of the town I grew up in. Does that happen with yours as well?

hellooo elias ^_^ sorry ive been kinda offline the past few days (not completly, but more than usual lol) but i’m at my cousins place in vermont and theres not very stable wifi or cellular up here lol!! Life’s been pretty good! since it was my bday last week im gettin lotsa nice bday wishes (and gift cards) while im seein family lol.. We’re actually going away again in a few days.. nothing crazy just to hang with family in massachusetts but yknow. its exciting. Is the package the shirt u told me abt? And congrats on one month (again)!! my voice started doing shit abt one month in and like. i didnt believe anyone when they told me bc i was like. nah it doesnt do that this early but then it kinda. became obvious. that chart they give you for informed consent is kinda laughable bc the changes vary so much from person to person..

We’re leaving tommorow at 9am and driving like four and a half hours home which im not looking forward to but its kinda funny that that’s a ‘big trip’ for me when i know ppl who travel like. much further without complaint but to be fair i live in like the smallest reigon of usamerica lol.. i think it bugs me most that i cant be on my phone most of the drive bc of there being no signal. again….city/suburb dweller problems. i don’t claim any of my complaints to be particuarly valid…! we’ve come up here every 4th of july i remember.. we’re not rlly partrotic people just tend to have work and school off so its an excuse to meet up for a family gathering.. my extended familys pretty typical irish massachusettsan so theres a lot of us and its a bit loud…

As for my ocs.. ive been thinkin abt them a lot.. their plotline has changed so many times based on changing factors im thinking of rewriting it completly. starting from scratch, just keeping the basic vibe of the characters and setting and editing them pretty liberally.. and yes. their city is soooo based on my hometown its silly. it didnt start off that way. they were in boston at first. and then it made more sense for them to be in a smaller city. and then it made a lot of sense for it to be my city. so it yeah. its set in my city pretty much.. i describe where i live as a small city bc thats what everyone here calls it but its so small a lot of people from bigger states/major cities would call it a town😭 but its like one of the biggest ones in the state lmao.. but like. theres somethin comfy cozy about it. its a very queer, artsy area. i tend to think my ocs would fit in nicely there..

Scenes From a Marriage (2021) - i have an unhealthy obsession with Oscar Isaac, but i also really love the way this show was written. watching their relationship devolve over 5 episodes is always wildly fascinating and the angst is off the charts. i will definitely be using it as inspiration for future angsty fics!

Crazy Rich Asians (2018) - this is one of the cutest romcoms ever made and i spend entirely too much time thinking about the scene on the plane (at the end). also, the wedding scene makes me ugly cry every time.

Jealousy (2013) - this is a french film and the vibes in it are immaculate. it’s so COZY!

The IC

You spent a lot of time alone as a kid, entertaining yourself, and take great pride in being largely self taught in everything you know and being self sufficient. You don’t feel like you have very strong emotional bond to your family, growing up your house was filled with a lot of chatter and so the best way you know to connect with your family is through gossip and secret keeping. You also never really felt settled as a child.

Family is incredibly important to you. You keep in contact with their family as much as possible. You want a small, cozy house but often return home to where you grew up and feel a sense of responsibility towards the people that raised you. You generally had a very loving and caring home. Your childhood was not affectionate or like “loving” it was more like an exchange of getting bare minimum for high achievements.  So you tend to treat everyone in the world as family because of the warped sense of what a family is you got as a kid.

Growing up you always felt like you had a very “different” upbringing and you have sort of a love hate relationship with it because whilst being unique and “misunderstood” is a point of pride for you, you also desperately want to fit in and be liked especially on a public platform. You also probably felt like you weren’t the most important person in your family, you feel like your parents worked very hard to help other people and whilst you understand the importance of that and its a core value for you, it still creates this emotional distance in the home for you.

Growing up you were a very oblivious kid, but at the same time you were very in tune with everyone's vibes and the dissonance has created an overwhelming feeling of confusion about the way you group up. You don’t really understand why things happened the way they did, why people behaved the way they did and so on and so forth. Bughead Appreciation Day 1 Except It’s Day 2

So I spent yesterday nice and cozy in bed and put this off (good choice, tbh, I was very snug as a bug), but now, now comes the time for me to gush about some people in the fandom!  This is definitely not a comprehensive list, I have absolutely left some people out because I am very forgetful, but, in no particular order and under a cut because I’m a wordy bitch:

@tory-b: A delight and a dear, leading writer of monsterfucker!Betty, co-runner of @riverdaleprideandjoyzine, a legend and a friend, we have no choice but to stan.  Her stuff is so good and varied and just *chef’s kiss* a delight, two favorites of mine are Fangs/com/Match (Betty/dragon!Jughead meet via monsterfucker Tinder, has some great friendship moments with Kevin and Veronica and is v sexy and funny, features the horniest Betty) and Sticky Sweet Serenade ((past)-friends-to-enemies-to-lovers bughead, mixes up some statuses in Riverdale, excellent mystery, I remember reading it and going, “holy shit, a believable take on Northside!Jughead”).  I’ve also gotta mention Whats in a Name? (Betty and Jughead meet on tumblr, Betty writes poetry and Jughead is a shitposter, they slowly connect, it’s great) and To Balance the Scales (scientist!Betty/mermaid!Jughead, currently a slow build, I cannot wait for you guys to see the excellent worldbuilding she’s done).  I could keep going, or you could binge all her fics today, an excellent use of your Saturday, I assure you, because I’ve left a lot out.

@stillhidden: Always good for some great thoughts on the show, one of the best reasons for my your thoughts on Riverdale please show them to me tag, I get psyched every time I see a Riverdale text post or ask answer because I know I’m in for a good time.  Thoughtful and funny and nice, what a combo!

@satelliteinasupernova: So talented!  Author, artist, co-runner of @riverdaleprideandjoyzine, funny, haver of good thoughts on Riverdale is there anything she can’t do?  No, there is not.  Every time I see her art I’m like !!!, the colors! how well-drawn the hands are! the accuracy of their hair! the backgrounds! the way I can see the love in their eyes! I cannot even, there are no words.  Also!  Her fics!  So original!  One of my earliest memories in the fandom is reading The town called Riverdale (a sort of mystery about the meta fuckery going down in Riverdale, explores time loops, stories that control lives, the roles the Archie characters are “supposed” to have, a mash-up with concepts in Princess Tutu that requires zero knowledge of Princess Tutu) and going !!! is this a Princess Tutu mash-up?  Have I been #blessed enough to see a mash up between Riverdale, a story that fucks with archetypes, and Princess Tutu, one of the shows about fucking with archetypes and the way stories ontrol lives?  I was and I am and I raved to my non-fandom but Princess Tutu liker friend about it.  Has also wonderfully tackled eldritch horror in return to Eldervair and gothic horror/romance in The Lady of the Manor, does fluff, does angst, does it all, so go check her out!

@go-ldy: An angst and time skip queen, tbh, and always has some great thoughts on Riverdale, another reason I’m glad I have that tag.  Every time she answers an ask, I’m like, “Yesss, incoming Good Thoughts, I am HERE for this”.  But do not sleep on her as an author!  Into the Deep is some delightful dark!bughead, and I’ll walk with you in the shadows is such good time skip angst and a mystery and there’s a certain surprise I love but is a spoiler but you simply must read this, you must.  The Time after Time series is giving us that good angst bughead content that season 5 is not going to, and I’m so glad it exists and just thrilled that she trusted me to beta it.  I’m leaving a lot of stuff out though, so you should go check her out!

@milajovovich: One of the best gif makers in the fandom, I will fight you on this.  Makes absolute miracles with footage, the way she makes season 4 webrips look like they’re actual blurayrips is godly, they’re so crisp and so smooth and the coloring is always great.  And like, jesus, the way the bluray footage looks?  Fucking outstanding, the talent is off the charts.  Go marvel at their gifs, go, go.

@imreallyloveleee: A prolific, talented author and funny to boot!  loveleee is one of the people who has been here since the beginning, a mainstay in the fandom, and we are so, so lucky she hasn’t left.  How do I even begin to rec you some of her stuff?  She can write smut with fics like burn, baby (a 3x16 missing moment of bughead fucking in the car as the trailer burns, what a gift to the fandom, I can’t even), is queen of pining with fics like boy problems (season 1 post 1x05 canon divergence, a bughead get together but with that quality pining) and her i’m just a shot away series (two fics, one from Jughead’s POV and one from Betty’s, that are fully of pining and sexual tension and miscommunication and major teenage vibes, you gotta read them), and writer of one of the funniest fics in the fandom and one of my favorite, like spirits in the night (the core four + Kevin perform a seance to contact Jason Blossom and yes, it is just as funny as it sounds, perhaps even funnier).  And there are countless others, so settle in and go check her out because she does it all, fluff and angst too, I just don’t have time to rec them all.

@meditationonbaaal: Absolutely one of my all-time favorite fic authors, like across fandoms, the talent, I cannot even properly describe it, like the quality of the prose, amazing, iconic.  the devil’s daughter (a season 2 rewrite with some differences in season 1, jumps back and forth through time in the best way, has the best and creepiest dark!Jughead, has some great smut that includes dom!Betty and dom!Jughead can you believe we are so blessed, such a good rewrite of season 2, and you know how I love season 2, so that is some high praise, let me tell you) is easily in my top 10 all-time favorite fics across the many, many fandoms I’ve read many, many fics of, and you simply must check it out, you will not be disappointed.  develop, stop, fix just blew me away as a kink week fic of bughead playing with bdsm in a dark room, the layers, the smut, the trust, the feelings, I cannot even.  And doll parts!  doll parts is so good, just such an amazing take on drop dead gorgeous, a fabulous Jughead and Betty as per usual, dare I say even better than an already fantastic movie.  I am behind on loose lips sink ships, but I can already tell it’s going to be a great exploration of the Stonies and a great take on season 4.  Keep an eye on her stuff here and here, do not miss out!

@dieqohargreeves:  An icon and legend in gif making, just makes the most beautiful and intricate and creative gifs.  The coloring is amazing, the techniques are amazing, that shit is Art, I will fight you on this.  You gotta check ‘em out, you just gotta, I can’t do their work justice.

@sullypants:  The wit!  The humor!  The observational skills!  The talent, my god!  Sully is the genius behind @bettycooperoutfitwatch and @riverdalearthistory as well as a fabulous writer of both meta and fic, yet another excellent reason for me to keep up with others’ thoughts on Riverdale.  Her a comic miniverse series is so funny and sweet and such a great take on the Archie Comics version of bughead, and the after-party series (Betty and Jughead attend a, well, prom after party, and the events that happen, and I am not doing it justice, but it is v good, I promise) has such a great vibe and such great characterization.  And young adult friction (librarian!Jughead is in a kind of competition with librarian!Betty, it’s so funny and so great) is such a delight, and we do not have time to get into everything great she’s written, but go check it out here.

@lilibug--xx: The queen of bughead smut, can you believe she has graced us with her stuff?  It is steamy and it is in character and it is amazing.  Dark Cherry Chutney is still a fandom favorite of mine, just some great dark!bughead who are unaware of each other’s darkness (but oh, they find out!) as well as some excellent smut.  And Pressed for Time (Betty teasing Jughead with her skirts in an effort to get him to fuck her and he is barely holding on until he isn’t, alternating POVs in the best way) is sexy af but makes you work for it, it’s a delight.  And give you mine (Betty and Jughead fuck at work and it is so hot, I can’t even) is so goddamn good, just some of the best dom!Jughead out there.  Has also written monsterfucker!Betty, which you know I’m a fan of, in once upon a midnight (werewolf-hunter!Betty/werewolf!Jughead with sex pollen where she does not shy away from some wolfy-ness and it is hot af) and has written monsterfucker!Jughead, a rarity but always a delight, with reap what you sow (witch!Jughead/undine!Betty and Betty is so delightfully otherworldly and it is so sexy but also sweet), and there are countless other smut fics, we would be here all day if I went through them all, so you gotta check her out here.  One more thing though: she can also write fluff with Lemon Drops and Chocolate Chips, a sweet fic of Betty and Jughead as neighbors that you should definitely check out.

@thatiranianphantom:  Funny and thoughtful and talented and has correct opinions on musicals!  Writes such good explorations of post-4x17 (and post-4x17 adjacent) scenarios.  Like, the we are a masterpiece series is v good and so interesting, and no one else is singing my song is such great angst as a post-4x17 fic and a great use of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend songs.  I am forgetting a lot of stuff, I know I am, and I think I might be behind like a fool, so let’s go check out all her stuff together here, yes?  Yes.  Also?  Great for Riverdale speculation, especially about the season 5 musical episode.

@heartunsettledsoul:  So talented, queen of canon missing moments, and funny to boot!  I love reading her liveblogging of the episodes, and I cannot recommend her stuff enough.  Her Forgotten Moments series of canon missing moments is iconic, you must go read all of it, especially there’s witchcraft in your hips, a post-2x13 fic of Betty and Jughead being such teenagers and Jughead being a dweeb about his cheerleader girlfriend and I am not doing it justice but you gotta go read it, man, you gotta.  But the series is full of gems from the beginning with Midnight Silence (Betty and Jughead talk post-1x04 about the Grundy debacle and it’s such a delight) and going all the way through to the most recent it might’ve been a nightmare (a 4x12 through 4x16 fic that gives me a wide range of emotions and is fantastic) and your eyes look like coming home (Betty’s diary entries throughout season 1, simply inspired).  But she’s also so good at AUs!  a dark world aches (for a splash of the sun) is already looking so good as a bughead mystery with some varchie fun on the side, just some quality core four content, and won’t be the same (if you’re not here with me) is a favorite of fake dating, Christmas, and there was only one bed, just the best tropefest.  And there are so, so many more, so you must check her out here.

@lovedinapastlife: She writes such a variety of AUs, I am just in awe of them all!  The talent, I am amazed.  The dark!bughead in The Society is peak dark!bughead with a simply iconic yandere!Betty, and you are seriously missing out if you have not read it yet.  Oh, and there’s some more dark!Jughead with a side of dark!Betty in the key to harm(ony) that you must check out because it’s such a great ride and is sexy, what more could you want?  Every movie AU she does really takes the source material and makes it her own from works You Drive Me Crazy (but I'm gonna keep on loving you), based on Drive Me Crazy and definitely better than the movie, to the most recent to all the boys (but especially you), based on To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and just so sweet.  But also can write otherworldly fics like Heart’s Desire with genie!Betty and The Second Coming with fae!Jughead, as well as regular aus like Detention (Betty and Jughead in detention and it gets a little sexy but also quite cute), and pure porn like Eye of the Beholder (Betty and Jughead as sorcerers who hook up over sorcerer Tinder and it is sexy but also sweet), as well as some of the best ABO in fandom with her A/B/O Mine series (alpha!Jughead/omega!Betty in high school and holy shit is it hot as hell).  I am only just skimming the surface here, so definitely go check her out!

@kyloren aka @jughead-jones:  Mila is so talented at making gifs, like goddamn, and also so funny, but I bet you didn’t know that she also has written some damn good fic!  She hides it, but it is out there and it is very good, my favorite being let me hang my hook on your splendor, a fandom fave of a Scooby-Doo au that is so much more thoughtful and clever with its casting, and also very amusing, you must check out the rest of her stuff here.

@elizabethbettscooper: A delightful person and a delightful writer who is largely retired from the bughead fandom but still such a talent, like seriously.  Her Twin Peaks Riverdale AU The Past Dictates the Future is so good, you simply must check it out, like you must.  And yours was the first face i saw is such a fun AU of “what if Betty’s crush on Archie was a front for her crush on Jughead”, you must go read it.  And holy shit, her i may be bad (but i’m perfectly good at it) series is peak dom!Jughead/sub!Betty taking place when they’re in college and fucking in so many varied ways, like if you are into that, you must go read these fics, you must, you will have a great and sexy, sexy time.  And there’s so much more good stuff, you gotta go read it all here.

@bettycreeper: She does so much for the fandom and she makes such gorgeous gifs!  Like, the coordination she does on the @bugheadfamily server and @bugheadfanfictionawards and @riverdale-events and probably elsewhere cannot be understated, she is such a valuable presence in the fandom.  And have you seen her gifs?  Gorgeous quality, just gorgeous, and her movie poster gifs for fics are simply inspired.  Also?  She’s an amazing beta, just outstanding.

@stillscape: A very thoughtful person and excellent writer who I can’t seem to tag.  Dianthus Caryophyllus is still one of my favorite fics in the fandom, a high school bughead fic with some amazing pining from Jughead with an oblivious Betty, I can feel it, it’s so good.  And of course there’s Ninia, an amazing take on the soulmates trope, just so good, I cannot do it justice, you must check it out.  The for the life of me series is also such a good AU for Betty and Jughead getting together pre-Riverdale at a summer internship, I have such fond memories of it.  And la peste (the plague)!  So good, I cannot even.  We don’t have time for everything, except you should make time and go check all of it out here.

@thepointoftheneedle: The variety of work here is phenomenal, the talent, I cannot.  Took my ridiculous double fake marriage/draft-dodging concept and turned it into an excellent, thoughtful period piece with phenomenal characterization and a great mystery with Never No Locomotive, I cannot recommend it enough.  And Ghosts and Clouds and Nameless Things (ghost!Jughead/grieving-dead-Jughead!Betty with a side of mystery) gave me so many emotions, I think I almost cried, and I am not a crier, I assure you.  Hey Pixie Dream Girl, I’m Coming for Your Man! (Betty in her bookstore saves Jughead from his date with a Manic Pixie Dream Girl) is so delightfully funny, and Sunflowers (Betty and Jughead share a working space and fall in love) is so goddamn cute.  I have actually found myself behind on her work, which is a crime, it all looks so amazing and I know it will be, and you must check all of it out with me here.

@hellodinoflower:  Such an amazing presence in the fandom, such a delight, so clever and funny.  She ran @bugheaddrabblechallenge this past summer and gave us all so much joy in the process, and, while her fics are deleted now (as is her right), I promise you that they were amazing, you all missed out if you slept on her.  She’s such a great follow, you gotta follow her.

@bluevelvetvideo:  A delighful soul, great character insight, great writing.  Like, her smut is fantastic, have you read Arsenal (a double feature of Betty and Jughead fooling around in public and then having some sexytimes back in private with some quality dom!Jughead, let me tell you, v steamy)?  Because you should.  Christmas Lights (Jughead ties Betty up with their Christmas lights, it’s fantastically sexy) is a delight, and you can’t blame gravity (for falling in love) is a very fun take on soulmates and soulmarks, and you simply must go read it.  She is a master of smut, let me tell you, and you must check out all her stuff here.  Also?  An excellent beta, 10/10, I’m so lucky to have her.

HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE

(21/06/2021) (Solar Institute Bulletin No. 1)

Greetings my babies, and happy solstice. For those who don’t know, the summer solstice is the day when the Sun charts her longest course through the sky. It’s the longest and most light day of the year. Cultures have celebrated the solstice for thousands of years— with singing, dancing, ceremonies, fires, and feasts. It’s a day to toast fertility and hope for plentiful harvests. It’s one worth celebrating.

And what better way to celebrate than with an EXTENSIVE DETAILS BULLETIN? (I’m joking, please go outside after reading this). I have so much to tell you. This is the first official bulletin from the Solar Institute, by the way. These may come every week or two weeks, depending on how I feel.

Firstly, thankyou for your sweet vibes on SP. I’m glad you like it. On release morning I went up Ōwairaka, not far from my house — I wanted to be outside. This is from the minute before the song launched.

I had friends round that night, my girls brought me yellow flowers, I drank a really delicious mezcal and felt happy and cozy. It’s kind of an insane feeling having music out again. I can feel people staring at me when I go places. I’m getting really good tables in restaurants all of a sudden. It’s very amusing to me that to so many people I was dead, and now I’m alive!!!

Anyway. I have some major shit to announce so I gotta keep this moving.

The album comes out August 20. It contains 12 songs and 2 bonus tracks. Here’s the tracklist:

We have made some absolutely sensational vinyls for you guys that you will be able to go and get the day the album comes out, no waiting for you, oh no! They’ve waited long enough, I told my team, shaking my finger (really, my team told ME, because I live basically on a different planet and need to be reminded of real-world parameters constantly!!) There’s a beautiful standard vinyl with a sky-blue disc, and a very juicy deluxe vinyl only available on my site with the sickest giant foldout poster (you get the bonus tracks with this, on a super cool 7-inch picture disc). No CDs this time. I didn’t wanna make something that would end up in a landfill in 2 years, but more than that, I wanted to make something that symbolised my commitment to asking questions of our systems, and making stuff with intention and sensitivity. I’m calling it a music box. It’ll be the same size and shape as a CD, and you can buy it where CDs live, but this is something totally different. If you’re torn on which hold-in-your-hands, flip-through-the-pages thing to buy to best enjoy this album, honestly, I’d go for the music box. You’ll know more about this very soon.

The rumours are true — I’m not gonna be returning to social media this cycle, outside of the occasional temporary post, I guess. Being off social media makes me feel incredible — we can talk more about that another time — and I’d love to maintain feeling that good, and also build this really cool new zone with you guys. I want this bulletin to be our special spot. I see it as being part news bulletin, part diary, part old-school fan site. In time I’ll post interviews with people I admire, random photos of my garden, meandering thoughts on myriad concepts, backstage tour pics, recipes, etc etc etc etc etc. I know it’s a different sort of pace to what you’re probably used to, and much more long-form, but I’m looking forward to retraining our brains together :-)

I’ve also decided to create a zone where we can chat. I realised people were replying to these emails asking how I was doing, what I was up to, etc. Which is very sweet! And I’d love to write back! In a move borrowed lovingly from the Opulent Tips newsletter, I’ve decided that if you’re still reading this, you’re probably a sensitive cutie who worships the sun (SCWWTS). COCC HYPE WON’T LAST, HERE’S WHY

Okay, hear me out. As much as I want Lana to be successful, COCC isn't going to be the known-by-all iconic album of the year. Which is sad, because I think we all agree that she is amazing and talented and would deserve it more than most other artists these days. The thing is, the album came out too late. 

It was supposed to be out in September, which would’ve been much more fitting, because the album is so chill and cozy sounding. If it came out in September, people would stream it organically because in fall we tend to lean towards those sounds. It for sure would’ve been part of those “fall vibes” playlists which spotify generates and get thousands of streams. Those streams would help the fans keep the album high charting for a long time. When Evermore would come out in December, it would create more hype for Chemtrails, because Chemtrails and Evermore are both by the same producer and quite similar sounding. This would bring even more new people into the fandom + more streams. We were all locked up at home anyways, we really had nothing else to do other than listen to music.

Currently we are in March and it’s getting warmer. Most countries are easing lockdown regulations, some are back to normal already. Go on practically any social media app and you can see everyone preparing for their hot girl summer. Everyone is obsessed with glowing up, dreaming about one night stands and parties that are waiting for them in the summer. It’s going to be the roaring twenties once again. We’ve been locked up for a year and people can’t wait to go out, party and forget about their miserable lives. Chemtrails doesn’t fit into that aesthetic. Can you imagine White Dress or Yosemite playing at a party where everyone is yearning to lose themselves and forget the world? No, I can imagine them playing This Is What Makes Us Girls, West Coast, High by the Beach or Freak, but certainly not anything off of COTCC. This would’ve been the perfect time to release an album with unreleased songs like Meet Me In The Pale Moonlight and Queen of Disaster. And it would sell too, because thanks to tiktok, everyone knows those songs. 

I really don’t understand what reasoning they had to push Chemtrails back for half a year. Was all of that really just for the vinyls? Sometimes I get the feeling that her management doesn’t even want her to succeed (I mean they barely even promoted the album). And spring is a time so saturated with new releases from big artists, for example Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, Grouplove and Justin all released albums just this week. Anyways I guess I’m just trying to say that her label majorly fcked her over by pushing the release back. They had to have known that by time spring comes around the sound of Chemtrails wouldn’t be as relevant. If they planned a March release, they should’ve just produced the songs differently (made them sound like songs from uv / honeymoon). Then COCC would’ve been iconic, THE album, one that in a few years time everyone, not just us fans, would associate with the fond memories and new experiences we’ve had listening to it in summer 2021.

what is your ideal setting for focusing on your writing?

Ideally, I would love to be in a quiet place like a self imposed nook that I’ve carved out in a library or outside peacefully among nature. Truthfully, I do a lot of writing in my room (which for the most part is quiet lol) Cozy blankets, macrame decoration behind me on my wall complete with flowers, candle lit and lo-fi playing on the computer most times hehe. I live with a relative and our rooms are RIGHT next to each other. SOOO.... I normally do my writing at night when they are sleep and I can just chill, vibe and let the creative juices flow <3 

what is your favorite genre to write?

I am a history buff and a total romantic SO I typically combine historical eras with romance alllmost always? Yeah it’s kinda my thing lol. I’m trying to get more into writing more in the modern era but hey what can I say? I’m an old soul. I like ‘old’ stuff lol. I have always written interracial fiction (brothas do NOT come for me I love y’all too. Don’t start that. LOL) I’ve taken to writing mainly AMBW or Asian Men and Black Women fics because not only am I attracted to Asian men but as a teenager, I did NOT see many fics that I could relate to...involving guys I was attracted to. It was rare then and it’s still in the minority now tbh. So, my motto was if it’s not there then I have to create it. And I did. 

  I’m also um...very sensual so 9/10 my stories will have love scenes in them. lol. 🙈💯 It’s taken a long time for me to transition from a smut writer (listen... ya girl used to be W-I-L-D. I used to write NASSSSSSTTTTYYYYYYYYY SH*T. 🙈 cause I’m a lowkey freak like that-I meannn um...🙈🙈🙈) to a writer of what I call erotic art? Though do NOT get me wrong... some of y’all smut writers GOT THAT TALENT OMG. Y’all be writing SO FREAKING WELL I FORGET IT’S SMUT LOL. *looks at @bangtanlalaland

 I haven’t written smut in so long I forgot what it reads like lol. But I been kinda getting into BTS smuts? Like with Namjoon primarily 🙈. I LIKE ACTUAL STORYLINES OKAY. STORYLINES WITH THE SMUT THANK YOU. (AND FLUFF TOO).

do you prefer to write on paper or digitally?

I mostly write digitally but when I do not have access to my computer, I write on paper. Sometimes, I prefer to write on paper more but 9/10 it’s on my computer. My computer has become my new notebook. I take it EVERYWHERE. 

it’s the middle of the night and you suddenly wake up with an idea. what do you do?

I IMMEDIATELY write the idea down. I’m a very VISUAL person so I have to SEE the characters’ faces first. I try to find who in real life match with how they look in my head. Depending on how inspired and solid the idea is... I might come up with teasers, a self made trailer, self made book cover and even a moodboard. But yeah first, WRITE IT DOWN BEFORE YOU LOSE IT. 

who is your favorite person to write about?

Mmmm.....to be honest I don’t have a specific person I like writing about. All of my characters are original characters, they are not based off of celebrities. 

do you like making your own characters, or do you usually write about real people?

The question above kinda answers this one hehe.  All of my characters are original. Completely made up in my head. 

have you ever written a book, or a story with more than 15 chapters (100k words)?

YES. YES I HAVE. I’ve written it and PUBLISHED IT Y’ALL! It’s called Accordance. I’ma be a shameless plug and put the link here! GO COP IT Y’ALL! OH AND WHILE Y’ALL AT IT CHECK OUT MY TRAILERS I MADE ON MY YOUTUBE. YA SIS WORKS HARD LOL. 

how often do you get ideas?

Mmm depends on when the creative bug hit me. Since the beginning of this year though, A MILLION LOL. This year been off the charts. I’ve never felt this creative in a LONG WHILE. I LOVE IT. 

do you ever get an idea that you really like but just can’t seem to finish?

Of course!!! Whenever I am close to finishing a work, the writer’s block hits me H-A-R-D. It sucks so much booty man. I be like BRUHHHHHHH. Sometimes, I try to push through and finish and others, I just let myself rest and wait until I am up to 100% to write again. 

what is your least favorite plot?

Hm. I don’t... really have any I think? I’m pretty much down to read whatever I suppose. I just don’t like stories where there is no character development, focusing only/strictly on sex and ones that are extremely fast paced with no appropriate spacing in between. Make it make sense y’all. Thanks. hehe

tension between the ascendant and midheaven; part one

many people will have their ascendant and midheaven signs square one another in their charts, meaning the signs will be of the same quality (cardinal, fixed, mutable). the struggle presents itself due to the ascendant's presentation of identity and approach to life, vs. the midheaven’s presentation of the person’s desired public image, i.e. the person they wish to become, or wish to be viewed as. 

this post applies to charts that don’t necessarily have the ascendant and midheaven aspecting one another (as we’re looking more so at how the signs present themselves in these positions), however the tension will present more strongly should they aspect.

aries ascendant -- capricorn midheaven

aries risings tend to come off as the more boisterous of the bunch. the heads of the zodiac, they have a “large and in charge” attitude, as they’re fiercely independent and enthusiastic. they keep their emotions within arm’s reach, and can come off as aggressive or blunt, or bubbly and sensitive -- they’re highly reactive to their surroundings. they’re the first leaders of the zodiac, and they know it; they’re also known as the “children” of the zodiac, and can come off as impulsive.
