Kim Possible
Tick-Tick-Tick Episode #1
Hi! My name is Deanna Winchester mulitfandom (more then one fandom) blogger I decided to
create my very first blog post review of Disney’s Kim Possible.
My author block delayed this long running pop culture review.
This is actually the first episode to ever aired but of course it aired out of order on the Disney Channel.
It first aired on the Disney channel USA on June 14, 2002. Toon Disney premiere: April 11, 2005.
Kim Possible was and is my childhood show it amazing to review all episodes. This is a fun rewatch that I actually enjoyed.
Kim Possible is one of my favorite Disney animated character, it exciting to watch this show and revisit it.
I rewatch this show i never thought though to do an episode review. This is a good idea this is also my comforting show when adulting goes too far.
The episode Disney plus synopsis is I insert a screenshot down below
We first introduced to Kim Possible our heroine, the main character but also a spy.
She also has normal life as a high schooler but has no alter ego. She is a cheerleader.
She describes as she can do anything!
Anyway let begin the first episode!
The episode start with Kim Possible anxiously being late as she rush past several people as she went to her locker as she waiting for her assignment to be printed. She is anxiously like come on print please.
Only you think it her assignment to her confusion no it just her best friend Ron Stoppable printing cheat codes for a video game. Kim rightfully so is overwhelmed she has 30 seconds to print her History assignment she is annoyed by Ron. Ron was a comedian in this episode. Ron was so entertaining.
Course as the real paper was about to print there is a paper jam, Ron is nothing to fear Rufus. The viewers are like who the hell is Rufus, it turned out Rufus is Ron’s pet naked mole rat. Kim had doubts until Rufus did his magic, the paper was saved. Yay! Kim is excited and happy that her paper is saved.
Until Kim’s luck was put to test. Kim is stressed and is under lot of pressure she can’t afford to be late.
Unfortunately she rush into the school grumpy staff member Mr Barkin.
It turned out revealed by the audience Kim has been not late for third time she is also on this guy bad side a recipe for disaster. Kim much to her dismay, is ordered detention.
Cut to the badass theme song opening. Christina is such a good singer.
Meanwhile at Possible house we are introduced to Kim family. Her younger mischievous geniuses twin brothers Jim and Tim are introduced her parents are introduced Kim herself revealed the facts her parents are brain surgeon and rocket scientist. Kim told her parents the truth she is not happy she got detention what she is good at. Kim you are good at being a spy badass!
One of her catchphrase no big was introduced
We are introduced to the first time of Wade and the communicator.
Wade assign her to her mission in South America much to her parents dissatisfaction however she gave her puppy dog eyes which be a running gag for the series
She can go yay!
New details are revealed the villain characters Shego all in the first episode.
Kim is not aware who she is yet like who is that she is good.
Kim and Ron visit the professor lab I assume it was emergency. 🚨
Kim ask what was stolen even the professor does not know
Something is fishy. Kim and Ron will solve it. Kim suddenly has an idea she saw on the footage of Shego stealing the device.
The device project is revealed to be the Tick. Course Ron screamed it brought back bad case of summer camp memories which you believe it or not will be foreshadowing for later Season one episode.
That camp and Ron are connected my dear readers. Camp Wannaweep and Ron are sinisterly connected.
The tick was not alive according to the professor it was a digital blue print it was a cyber genetic Tick will be in comparison to the real thing. The professor created a robotic tick. Ron ask why
Professor say he have lot on his time fair enough.
Who will need a robot tick? The key to your question Kim is your arch nemesis villain DR. Drakken
Cut to his evil lair
Shego fell from a trap door. Cut to Shego and Drakken dialogue which is the best banter ever.
Kim say she has wrap up the conversation soon due to detention. Wade keep teasing her until Kim say to Wade can we continue the mission. Wade was like okay.
Then Wade revealed more information about Shego to Kim i forgot to add
Drakken is furious that he reveal his evil plan to Shego to build a robotic tick.
Course Kim was interrupt by Barkin. Kim found herself in detention shenanigan ensures.
Funniest moment in this episode the clock is messed up, Kim had good dialogue herself.
Course leads Rufus to the rescue who causes a distraction. Kim managed to escaped.
She thanks Ron for rescuing her with the best plan out letting Rufus out! Course he gave credit to Rufus who was the hero,
Wade access more information about Drakken and Shego that lair is in the Caribbean. Wade say myth say the island is haunted. Much to poor Rufus who hide in the soda cup. Ron was excited about new gadgets. Ron get blasted by the gadget that disguise as lipstick for being nosy. Rightfully so.
Banter between Kim and Ron, Ron is now scared of spy gadget. Kim assures him it just regular makeup
Cut to Drakken lair. Shego shouts intruder alert course Drakken is in his own world.
Kim and Ron get captured course Drakken heard of the teen heroine Kim Possible,
Not Ron. Poor Ron. Chum is friend it least they know you and Kim are team Ron. Course Kim literally does not know who these guys are. Now it started to rang a bell. Kim say you something that does not belong to you
Course cut to Kim and Ron threatened by villains threats to be shark food. Course Ron is a comic relief he has good one liners. Kim saved the day and use the spy gadget on the shark. Kim escaped much to the villains dismay.
Shego does not know what nano technology is.
Course Shego found out they escaped cut to her and Kim fight sequence, Kim saved the day by using her spy tech the lair exploded, she and Ron jump. Mission Impossible vibes. Kim is in her cheerleading uniform. Once again Kim speak to the professor, the professor thank her. She say no problem course Barkin is not stupid another round of detention. Kim is not pleased. The nano tick somehow appeared on Kim nose. Kim escaped because it emergency
Course Drakken is on her trail, Barkin is on her trail. They leave on Ron’s scooter who is not fast. It chaotic sequence. Kim saved Barkin because Drakken is trying to get her with this evil genius ray. It a mess.
They end up at Bueno nacho. Kim has the best sarcastic dialogue at Ron who is focused on food.
Ron plus food who is shocked. Course Drakken and Shego argued like a married couple.
Course Shego and Kim have their first real fight, Wade trying to get nano robot off Kim.
Kim got the upper hand Shego end up on Barkin.
Stakes are high. It intense. Kim nose will blown. Wade is problem solving except Ron has an idea. Diablo sauce he put on Kim nose which finally is off her nose. She threw tick at Drakken device which go Boom!
Which lead to Drakken iconic villain phrase quote. The police capture Drakken and unconscious Shego long story got knocked out by Kim detention associates.
Kim is back at detention which lead to most iconic moments tough but fair call back from early scene go.
Funny moment assures , Kim is getting her detention associates now friends a manicure and Barkin get outnumber. Ron say Kim factor is not a rule for detention. The episode end cut to iconic end credits of the closingcredits.
The episode was really fun I enjoy it i rate it 10 out of 10.
💯💯💯
The cartoon Kim Possible rules!
Seen you all next time for episode two review.
Enjoy! I hope you all have a great afternoon.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
I'm unsure whether the living conditions of the Toons would fall into race stratification, as they're less their own race than their own species? In any event, there's plenty to cover.
Most if not all Toons have jobs in the entertainment industry, not only because it comes naturally to them but also because it's essentially the only jobs they can get outside of Toontown. "Gender" plays a role too. Characters like Jessica Rabbit work in what are essentially Gentleman's Clubs as it's all they can get as a job due to the way they're drawn, which is viewed as oversexualized by the humans in the world (and the viewer). They cannot control how they are drawn, nor perceived, but it determines their status and role within the world. I put gender in quotation marks as the Toon characters do not seem to value gender or sexuality as appealing/attractive/of note, so much as the ability to make someone laugh.
Toontown in its entirety, the place where all Toons live, is owned by Marvin Acme. The plot of the movie follows attempts to secure Toontown so it does not get turned into a highway. This makes the Toons a vulnerable and marginalized group. Their society, from the small amount covering the topic, seems to fall the most into the Elite-Mass Hierarchy System, though not quite perfectly. The land they live on is less governed by one person than owned, but while Acme owned it they did have equality of opportunity.
What is certain is that the Davis-Moore thesis would not be "correct" in this context. There are higher paid Toons, even though they're nearly all in the entertainment industry. Work isn't entirely skill based, but also has to do with a Toon's very makeup- they have certain abilities from birth. One of the characters is a huge movie star because he remains a baby, even though he is a full grown man. This is not really a skill or talent so much as just profiting off of his appearances, and yet he is rewarded highly for it. This aligns with opposition to the theory centering around "hey, this doesn't really take race, class by birth, gender, etc. into account" (to put it simply).
I'm not sure what the filmmakers are trying to convey about social stratification. It almost falls more under Hegel's views about interdependence and a slave-master relationship. There's a blatant power imbalance, but also a lot of interdependence. The Humans provide the jobs, and control Toontown, but the Toons desire the amusement of the Humans. The Humans give them jobs. The movie is hard to fit into a certain lens because Toons are treated as a strange mix between people, property, and characters. The rules of their very living and dying is different- bludgeoning one wouldn't kill it but making it laugh to death works. How do you apply the gravity of starvation and poverty to a "hobo" cartoon caricature which is made to be poor? Is it even suffering? Are animal Toons to be considered less than Human if they look and act like animals.... but are sentient? Dumbo in the movie is paid in peanuts! Is that fair to him, when his costars are making real world money? What is of more value to an elephant? Is the whole issue of Betty Boop and Jessica Rabbit working in a Human Gentleman's Club to be ogled even though it's not applicable to Toon culture and values considered exploitation of "Women" (do they even count as women or are they just perceived as women by human society?)
There's more nuance to overthinking this movie than you'd imagine. There's certainly many angles you could view it from.
Anyhow, movie stars like Roger Rabbit are high up in the "layers of rock" so to speak. They have a lot of money, a lot of publicity, and rank even in Human society. He and his wife Jessica are celebrities, after all! Big name characters like Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse are also in this category. It's hard to judge standards of living amongst Toons. Eddie, the detective (Human) is shown to be on hard times. He experienced downward mobility after his brother died. This resulted in him becoming an alcoholic and he neglected his duties, stopping engagement in his detective work. So desperate for money (and presumably below the poverty line) he takes a job far below his skill level (a snoop job (taking photos of Jessica "cheating" (playing literal patty cake)), despite having been a well respected detective). He would, at this point in the movie, likely fall into relative poverty. He is still eating, still has the agency and as such a home, etc. but he's not living comfortably by any means. This is also probably an example of anomie affecting a person.
Whose theory is the most applicable in explaining social stratification in the movie? Probably neo-Marxist Erik Olin Wright. Because there's so much nuance in what's happening due to the complexities of Toons existing, a perspective that asks a lot of questions is important. You cannot be black and white when some of the "people" you're talking about are literally drawn in black and white. There's a lot of power dynamics to be discussed, and a lot of oppression that can be viewed in a semi-Marxist lens (particularly since the main plot of the movie sort of centers around the destruction of public transport in favour of highways and all that entails).

WELCOME TO MY BLOG
My name is Jessi and I'm here to spread the LOVEEE😘🥳 WOOO!!
I have been a humongous fan of trolls since 2016 (except for the two month break that I took when I was a HUGE HTTYD fan- don't ask) and I mostly just post little silly trolls scenarios!
Here are the things that I can do:
Answer Questions- I love to answer questions about Trolls and other movies I love to watch, so don't be shy to ask my opinions!
Blab about Branch for about a bajillion hours- he's my favorite character OF ALL TIME and I was so happy when TBT was centered around him 😭🥹
Write fanfictions, though I would prefer to do that on my new blog, @jessi4fanfics (i just made it about ten seconds ago, so there's nothing there yet, lol)
I will take suggestions on stuff, and if you beg me to show you my handmade drawings of Human Broppy AU, I MIGHT show you, but it's not digital or anything, and I'm more of a writer than artist, so maybe that's not something you should do 😘🤣
WRITE ANYTHING BROPPY OR BROZONE I LOVE THEM SO MUCH EEEEE I am also a huge Cliva fan too, so if y'all come up with any ideas, I'm here to share them with
MESSAGING Y'ALL IS TOTALLY SOMETHING I'D LOVE TO DO, so if you wanna ask me something personal, for a suggestion, or just wanna say hi and blab about DreamWorks and Disney, I'm here to do so, as long as you don't talk inappropriately or anything.
Don't worry, ofc I'll think of more stuff as soon as I publish this lol. :D
Here are the things I CANNOT do:
I am a Christian, so if you ask me to write anything that is against what I believe, I will kindly tell you I cannot do that, but don't worry I won't bite ur head off or anything XD, I'm def not that kind of person.
I am absolutely not writing any LGBTQ+ content. I am not homophobic or transphobic and I know majority of people support all of it, but I do want to respect the small bit of people who don't, so I am not writing so I can respect what others say and think. ♥️♥️♥️
I won't talk about war or any of that kind of stuff also for the reasons of people having different opinions. I don't want to ruin friendships with anyone, and I hate it when that happens just because you don't agree on something. For both this and LGBTQ I also want younger viewers to be able to read my stuff, and sometimes when it comes to that stuff, they may be exposed to stuff they shouldn't be at a young age.
I am not writing anything too mature or inappropriate for younger readers- that includes smut, swearing, and make outs (tho I do write butt jokes WAHAHA U CAN'T STOP ME FROM DOING THAT)
I am not AT ALL putting ANY hate on anyone. I believe that everyone should be who they truly are without shame, and that our main goal as people should be to spread love. Which is why I LOVE ALL OF YOU!!
I LOVE these movies and shows TONS
Trolls Band Together (and the whole series duhhh)
Rio and Rio 2
Boss Baby & Boss Baby Family Business
Mickey Mouse Shorts
The Looney Toones Show
Lab Rats
The Lego Batman Movie
Bunk'd
Geek Charming
& More!!!
These are my (main) ships!
Branch x Poppy
Clay x Viva
Blu x Jewel
Mickey x Minnie (duh)
Bugs x Lola
Daffy x Tina
& Obviously SO MUCH MORE
I am a very silly person, HUGE BROZONIE, and I love to joke around! My account on Wattpad is JessiDelanett if you want to read my books/follow me!
I don't have YouTube- YET. Working on it 😜
I love all people, even those who may not like me. That doesn't matter to me, I will only just love you more.
HEARTS AND BLESSINGS. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

jess’ biggest mistake in the mystreet franchise is how she shifted the funny silly goofy moments into suddenly there’s guns and aphmau is being called a whore in college
it’s so sudden, it comes out of nowhere and ruins the atmosphere and lore it had previously.
the best way i can describe this is travlyn in llp.
if you’ve watched or rewatched love love paradise you can see that katelyn learns that travis knew about dante and nicole, but didnt tell her. so she spends a while giving him the silent treatment.
you think, “oh lmao it’s just a funny bit of angry gf and desperate bf”. thats the tone it has. it doesn’t come off as genuinely realistic or serious. they’ve both done worse shit to each other and it was played off as a looney toons joke ffs
but then out of nowhere, travis yells (yelling is understatement but yknow, he gives a ‘stern talking to’) at katelyn and now it’s suddenly extremely serious and travis is about to break up with her.
idk abt you but that gave me absolute whiplash. i was not expecting it and it just.. seemed to out of place? for me, it was hard to tell if jess’ goal was for travis to blow up all along, or if she just wanted to last minute come up with an excuse as to why they’re not dating in lovers lane.
what im trying to say is, jess needs to learn how to shift the tone in her stories to keep things consistent. it was done horribly imo. and it fucked up the experience for a lot of her viewers. it became hard to enjoy when jess came up with serious plotlines, only to completely contradict them two seasons later.
there’s so much mainstream media that starts off as shit posty funny haha but slowly shift into a more serious and action filled plot. aka gravity falls or literally any other popular cartoon shows.
also i do want to say. where angels fall wasn’t bad.. honestly. if it was a standalone show, it’d be a pretty good show but because its not, because it’s intertwined with all these other plots and shows that jess didn’t even bother to patch up well, it just doesn’t do it any justice
(i hope i articulated my words as best i can at 4:20am)

hi tamelee!
I'm here to ask for a little bit of advice if that's okay (: about a month ago I bought a Wacom drawing pad so I could start experimenting with digital art. artists like you here on tumblr have really inspired me to start making art. but I feel kinda.. lost. I've been mostly drawing naruto manga caps and I'm getting better but I guess I don't know where to go from here. coloring and shading scares me lol. I'm using clip studio paint and it's just a little.. intimidating. I feel discouraged, like I won't be able to do it. how did you do it tamelee? did you watch a lot of tutorials, or did you experiment until you figured things out? any advice you'd have for a beginner artist I'd really appreciate.
thank you veryvery much for your time ^^
Hi Nonee! 🧡 Sure!
Oh I think that’s a very good place to start. As well as drawing subjects you like ^^! Hmm, tbh I’ve just experimented a lot, but I don’t think my way of having done things was the most efficient. You might want to follow tutorials step by step? You can try coloring only with flat colors until you feel a bit more confident with that as well as cell-shading (toon-shading/non-realistic, like in anime) instead of rendering further as that can all be confusing at first. I personally never truly understood shading until I studied cell-shading and made my art a lot more readable. A lot of Anime uses this;
Tumblr media
You see how there is a base color, a darker color for shadows and highlights? (Sometimes not even highlights.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When you start to study it from existing work you’ll start to notice things like color always being in the same area of saturation and when you suddenly have a color that is way more saturated than the other it can look off. (See example.) But this is a guideline, not a rule. In your own art you can especially use saturation and brightness to help aid you to direct a viewer's focus and even tell a story.
I LOVE ‘How to train you dragon’ and ‘Kung Fu Panda’ for this because their coloring is so inspiring and if you truly want to learn from professionals... well those are the type of media to look for of course! I have an entire folder to inspire me just based on those.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you see how calculated those color combo’s are?!?! Here you see both analogous and complementary schemes and it is actually through looking at the things I like that I learned it >< The orangey colors stand out and are bright which helps you to focus on that area whereas the complimentary scheme is used to bring characters together.
If drawing Manga-caps is something you love to do, then maybe for coloring you can study screen-caps from Anime or even other animated films. I’d recommend to take it step by step, though I haven’t really applied it myself, from the video’s I’ve seen and artists I’ve followed it is always advised to have an art-goal that you can work toward. Maybe you first want to focus on lineart and then laying down a base color where the colors are harmonious and next would be cell-shading maybe and then you can start adding another light-source etc- eventually you can decide to create more depth or practice with monochromatic coloring, maybe even greyscale to learn values. But right away that can all sound a bit intimidating doesn't it? Find things that you like and then maybe you can open them in your program and just study. Find a brush you like, put on some music or a show on the background and for a moment play around with it without needing to create a finished piece. This is also how I learned how things like adjustment layers work or what all the different kinds of tools do. I have to agree with you, CSP is intimidating for me as well >< so this is kinda how I approach it as there are so many add-ons and additions within it but I try to only learn what I need for that moment so I don't overwhelm myself.  I definitely try to find video’s that can help me with creating Manga though! ^^ There are plenty!  It'll get easier eventually, you'll learn the program and you start to recognize placements for shadows and you will get a feel for the coloring- no worries 💪 Learning something new will always stay intimidating, every time I open up a new document I feel it too. It's not easy at all, but you kinda have to allow yourself to experiment and even make mistakes because practice is never perfect. I have some beginner tips written here- I hope any of this is somewhat helpful 🌷🫶

30!
30. Free space! Say something about this ship that you want to say!
Ok this is gonna sound like a bummer, hear me out, but:
The furthest Bugs and Daffy will ever be together is the pseudo relationship thing they have goin on. No marriage. We'll be lucky if they even call each other boyfriends.
This is for multiple reasons, the principal being that, in a meta sense, Warner Bros. won’t ever recognize that Bugs and Daffy are a couple. The “Baffy canon” thing we got in August? Social Media move. Baffy is a trend they saw rising, and bc there’s so many of us out there, they decided to play along with us for now. Yet, there’s no way to canonizing the ship beyond socials, and that's a very safe pr move. Like, we have to see them get together on screen for it to become real. And how would they do that? Throw in a special? Make a Looney Tunes Short where they’re, without explanation, suddenly an item? Devote an entire musical feature film to their relationship to take the time to develop a relationship, and make sure all LT media going forward upholds their status as couple( hm)? What would this mean for viewers seeing things like from the past like, Space Jam? Will this confuse or alienate much of the audience?
Another reason– toons don’t get married. Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, Popeye and Olive Oyl, all iconic romantic mascots, are eternally dating. So if by some miracle Bugs and Daffy profess their love to each other on screen, and there’s merch of them, and their profiles officially change to that of “each other’s official romantic interest” , well, that’s all they’re gonna be. Romantic Interests. I suspect it’s to keep the appearance of eternal youth, them being able to be their own separate thing while still able to be slapped onto marriage merch or singles merch regardless. It just opens up opportunities for storytelling, because marriage is usually reserved for “the end”. In animation, marriage is like, a resolution rather than a development.
Another reason they won’t get married? They’re too damn chicken and got a shit ton of issues. Will they hastily get married in Vegas one vacation? And proceed to regret yet long for that title of “spouse” for the rest of their lives? Yes. Will they ever sit their hyperactive asses down and ponder their personal issues over attachment and vulnerability to commit to something as demanding as marriage? Hell nah. That’s not their style at allllll. I can see them joking to each other about it a couple times, tryna gauge how the other reacts to the big M word, wonder if the other also thinks of it. Daydreams what it would be like to be married. ACT like a married couple. But they ultimately don’t do it.
For quick thinkin toons, they’re sure slow about these things. Aww but cheer up! It’s only taken them 80 years to finally be together. What’s another 80 more to tie the knot, eh?

This is Super Toon Tourney Melee. A viewer voting show where you can never know what to expect. Who will end up victorious, and who will fall from grace? Stay tuned to find out! WATCH the first episode HERE! THIS SHOW IS STRICTLY NON-PROFIT ONLY!
A few questions you might be asking:

Q1. What happened to Willy’s Comicland? Is it canceled? A1. Yes and no. I’ll be honest, I think I put way too much ambition in this silly little project which was only mean’t to be for my love towards the franchise, but lately, it’s died down and I haven’t had as much interest in the series as I once did two years ago. Just like a lot of things, sooner or later you have to move on, and unless a sequel is in production that brings a new wave of fans, I don’t think that’s gonna change. I might still work on it here and there, and who knows, maybe I’ll regain that motivation and pick up the slack, but right now, It’s just not my number one priority anymore. I did it as a hobby, not a job.
Q2. What’s an STTM? A2. STTM, or Super Toon Tourney Melee is a object show viewer voting series inspired by GDNacho’s Super BFB Viewer Voting, expect this time we’re using cartoon characters from different networks. If you don’t know how it works, for every episode, a certain group of people will be put up for voting using a randomizer, then you guys will have to decide whom to vote for to be eliminated. Afterward, I will count the votes. The viewers, aren’t the only thing they should worry about, because every elimination, a twist will be revealed that will put a spin in the voting in some way, meaning even if someone is guaranteed safe, they could still get out by whatever twist is played. Whoever ends up with the most votes from all of this will be out of the game. Then the next round will begin, rinse and repeat until only one remains.
Q3. How often will you upload episodes? A3. I can’t guarantee it will be often, but my goal is to try to get at least one episode out per week. Luckily, editing and putting together the episodes is pretty easy so hopefully, you see a consistent schedule from me.
I think that covers just about everything, if you have any questions, do let me know, and if you would like to watch the episode, the video is above!

Name: Matthias T.Radke/Werebelushi In Shades.
Species: I am a Werebelushi.
Gender: Male.
Theme Song: Ruthless People.
Personality: On screen as my reviewer persona I am brash, aggressive, and in your face but outside of my persona I am very much just a nice everyday person, it's just i've got limits on what I can and can't allow.
Likes: Reviewing good media that is requested to me by friends including movies, comics, characters, etc, doing comedy skits with my friends, helping my friends, slaying the forces of evil, watching SNL.
Dislikes: Bad movies, bad remakes, bad adaptations of tv shows, bad sequels or prequels, bad fanfiction, having to do reviews of anything involving that certain annoying bird (I keep insisting I don't want to do them but my producers are assholes and they keep making me do it, I want them to get fired but I apparently can't fire them because they know what gets good views, they know my viewers love the rants and outbursts, they want to see me inflict pain on these terrible pieces of media, they are sadistic, yes.. but trust me, it's a good thing I don't drink because given how many times i've reviewed Ciel's shit already I would have likely died from alcohol poisoning by now), people who say I do nothing but complain…look, it's their fault they cannot handle criticism, even if they think they are above criticism they still have the need to try and act like i'm in the wrong for having a different opinion, people these days are just so oversensitive, like I could say that I hate Forrest Gump and I guarantee one person on twitter is likely going to be 'please block this man, he hates forrest gump, he is a Tom Hanksophobe.'
Love interest: Don't have one.
Friends: Mel, Eucalyptus, Nathan, and all my viewers.
Biggest pet peeve: Yeah i'm sorry but I cannot stand people who think I complain too much, like dude i'm a reviewer, it's my job to critique things and yeah I cannot stand certain things like forced mind control, when suiting is used in a transformation and doesn't go anywhere apart from trapping someone in a suit (putting on a suit made to look like a Pokemon and transforming because of it only for nothing to happen isn't a tf, it's a dude in a costume, not a real tf, it doesn't count, that is just a human in a kigurumi/onesie that looks like a Pokemon that transforms him and that's it, it's just lazy if you ask me, look can't anyone just make a monster that DOESN'T use suiting as a method? I am just asking…why couldn't it just have been a symbiote or something?), anything with diapers, fat characters being made the butt of the joke, etc and well if you don't like my opinions maybe you shouldn't be complaining, Nathan does the positive reviews, I do the negative stuff and for a good reason. Because that's what Nathan's lists are for. I have positive opinions too, you know, and I DO contribute, thank you very much, by getting rid of the trash of this universe. I am the trash-man, I pick up the trash that gets thrown around here and throw it out all over and then pick it up again, then I start eating the garbage, then I bash someone over the head.
Best friends: Mel, Nathan.
Favorite video game: Dead by Daylight, MK11.
Favorite food: Difficult to say…I have many favorites.
Favorite color: Hard to say.
Favorite TV Show: SNL, SCTV, Grimm, Twin Peaks, Hell's Kitchen, Face-Off, Masked Singer, Blackadder, X-Factor.
Favorite Movies: Blues Brothers, any 80's era horror movie, The Godfather trilogy, Demolition Man, From Dusk Till Dawn, Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, Evil Dead franchise, Maniac Cop, Terror Toons, Beetlejuice.

Riverdale S5 E12 (Jaime/Hiram) - 5 Things I loved/ 3 Things to consider
5 Things I loved
1. The music selections for the Jaime to Hiram transitions were delirious and filled me with joy.  I admit up front I’ve never heard any of these songs before, so if they turn out to be a horrible kind of misappropriation or desecration or something I will feel bad. In any case - Riverdale commits to giving you a dose of the surreal every episode.  The difficulty with doing that in this episode is that  the stories being told in it are unusually straightforward, even staid, for  Riverdale.  So they went to town with the sound track.
There’s a song  (Demolicion by the band Narco) that sounds like it’s being sung by the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Toons on a bender - it’s just rawararwrarawrar. All these songs about Hiram ‘being bad’ and mentioning the ‘devil’ are so on the nose that the nose gets broken and pushed right into the skull (the title of the song is literally Devil Devil).
2.  I love that Hermione Gomez wears huge 80s glasses that completely overwhelm her little face and yet Jaime hits on her and thinks the world of her.  It helps to have that face, I grant you, but as someone who took the Dorothy Parker quote, Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses, very very personally back in the day, I LOVE that Jaime/Hiram has no such qualms.  Did everyone notice the bust of Nefertiti that’s positioned right behind Hermione the whole time Hiram is successfully asking her out? I did and it cracked me up.
3. I loved that nothing in this story about Jaime Luna makes Hiram Lodge even a little bit sympathetic to me.  Hiram is an out and out villain, and I love that.  I’ve been sick of villain backstory narratives that are like, Bad Things Happened To This Man So We Must Identify With His Homicidal Impulses that keep coming out, but this episode didn’t do that.
a) Hiram is in so many ways a textbook abusive husband, and the only thing that distinguishes him from the more stereotypical abuser is that he doesn’t actually punch his victim (he just shoots at her using other people’s guns).  Abusers blame their victims for ‘causing’ them to commit abuse.   The same is true here. The story that Hiram tells Reggie about his life pretends to be about his father, but is actually all about the fact that it’s Hermione’s fault that he’s a gangster.  She’s the one who likes the fancy clothes and the fancy car, the one who names him Hiram Lodge,  the one who is turned on by Hiram working for gangsters, the one that goes to the gangsters (rather than his father or her mother or any other adult) to get Hiram out of jail.   It’s all her fault and she owes him.  This is in addition to his usual, You’re my wife and I own you.
I am right back to being very worried about Hermione.
b) Hiram pretends to be giving ‘life advice’ about fathers and sons to Reggie.  Hiram has direct knowledge that Marty Mantle is a piece of shit, and that Reggie has a very trouble relationship with him, and that Marty absolutely does not respect Reggie at all whatsoever (“Reggie is a fool.”)   Hiram uses Reggie and then ditches him when he’s done.   Hiram makes Reggie an accessory to murder, which nets nobody anything at this point other than Hiram’s own blood lust - and possibly tying up loose ends because Vito is someone who can correct this yarn that Hiram is spinning about his origin - then breaks his heart.  Marty Mantle is not only a dad who beat his son - he’s a dad that does not ask his son “Where did you get the money” when the son pays off a huge debt to a known criminal, and is only relieved that he’s no longer on the hook.  He also tellingly asks Reggie, “That’s what you got from my story?” indicating that this is a story rather than a testimony.
4. I loved the very anti-straight men commentary the show keeps sneaking in.  Like, straight marriage is the worst, especially the ones that produce biological offspring, according to Riverdale.  Marty Mantle absolutely despises sex. He’s a guy who sells sexy cars to other guys for a living, and yet he hates talking about getting laid in one. He hates his beautiful sensual son, too, for being sexually successful and comfortable in his body. Both Reggie (described by the gay-bi Fangs as “very straight” even after kissing him) and Hiram (who is basically a Hermione-sexual at this point) have comically fetishistic relationships with cars and shoes, lovingly wiping down these objects at the start of each day.  All the straight men say the word “shame” several times -I’m ashamed of you/ I feel shame/ so ashamed/ shame.
5. I continue to adore “I am not in high school any more” Reggie Mantle.  Growing up to be a slightly sleazy car salesman is the one of the few character developments for Grown Riverdale that both makes sense and isn’t depressing.  Core Four, Cheryl and Polly are all extremely depressing and supportable with logic.  Toni and Fangs make out OK but they were also underdeveloped in the first four seasons. (I am too upset to talk about Sweet Pea).  I was moved by his tearing up while very quietly confronting his father, and I was moved by his boyish attempt at trying to show his new boss that he’s not just the muscle.  Oh and he’s so beautiful, did I say that already?  There’s so much face in Reggie’s face - strong brows, deep set eyes, those cheekbones, that jawline, that MOUTH.
Three Things to Think About
a. Why is Jughead narrating this?   Jughead is unusually wrong about a lot of things in his opening narration, and I assume this is intentional.  Jughead seems to use the words hero and protagonist interchangeably, and also I guess hasn’t seen Joker because most villains and antiheros also always get their origin stories too. (There’s a theory that what we’re watching is the Betty Cooper serial killer origin story, for example).   Has Jughead not watched “Citizen Kane” because he asks “What is his rosebud?” about Hiram,  BUT WE ARE NOT TOLD.   Jughead sounds jealous of Reggie, frankly, and he’s wrong when he says Hiram collects lost souls.  What OTHER lost souls does Hiram have near him?   And who the heck is S5 Jughead Jones calling LOST?
b. What Reggie really wants to do - and possibly also Hiram - is to wear a suit and carry a briefcase.   It’s just very White Collar Aspirant that isn’t fully explored. Like, how the 50 shades of grey movie was really about sitting in a board room negotiating a contract and having pretty women in suits bring you tea -  that was the erotic highlight of that movie.   We live in capitalism, so getting to use the accoutrement of the Wall St capitalist is the true fantasy.
c.  The point of this episode that the show is making to the viewer is this: A straightforward narrative, where gangsters act like gangsters, and fathers and sons have realistic misunderstandings and conflicts, is something we’re capable of doing.  We just don’t want to.

ANIMATING IN LIVE ACTION - “BRINGING ‘TOONS TO LIFE”
Tumblr media
Cartoons are a form of escapism to concepts that break the known conventions typical of our understanding of experienced audiovisual reality; and I think that’s what makes them so enjoyable for audiences across all age groups.
cartoons are no longer exclusively ‘for children’, with adult orientated animated content proving to be one of the most popular forms of viewing material for older demographics. and with a more mature audience on the scene - cartoons slowly lose the essence of what made them cartoons in the first place, as with a greater adult viewer-base; more and more elements of reality become implemented into series.
but when we bring such extravagancies to our more grounded world-view; they don’t exactly..
..“fit”
and to ensure I don’t fall into that pitfall, in my approach to this brief - let’s study a few case examples, to gain an understanding of the methods others have used to merge our worlds together:
“HOW DO WE BLEND CARTOONS WITH REALITY”
The most obvious answer is to give our characters, and their worlds much drabber colours, and less extravagant designs - that fall more in line with conventional reality.
but the problem with lessening your designs is that in a way you lose the essence of what makes cartoons; cartoons.
because don’t you know what I think of when i think of Mario..?
Tumblr media
denim.
trying to make things more realistic can get the representation of the characters wrong - however, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a viable option. it’s just important to avoid the ‘Uncanny Valley’
AVOIDING UNCANNY VALLEY - “THE WRONG WAY FOR ‘TOONS TO MIX WITH REALISM”
Tumblr media
if you were a child growing up in the early 2000′s - you probably saw a skew of movies, under a similar genre to:
grouchy man, circling the toilet bowl of irrelevancy in some way ( usually a struggling career )
meets fantastical creature and although apprehensive takes them into their home; only for the being to ruin their life.
they fight thus the fantastical being leaves, but after realising how being together bettered them-self over the course of the film the protagonist goes to rescue them from whatever situation they’ve encountered after leaving.
now besides also sounding like the plot to Will Ferrell’s ‘elf’ - this formula, although repetitive is entertaining to watch; so much so that it’s even being used partially to the current day;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sonic The Hedgehog (2020) & Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)
the areas most people find uncomfortable with these hybrid cartoons is seeing realistic features, typical of a human being.
Tumblr media
2011′s “The Smurf’s” has been widely criticised for it’s design decision to incorporate such human eyes into the characters - so that’s something to ‘keep an eye out for’ in my design work.
The original design from the teaser trailer for 2020′s “Sonic the Hedgehog” was open to heavy backlash from fans due to it’s complete overhaul of the character’s design - taking on a much more realistic look - complete with human teeth..
( transition to the next talking point )
does this mean cartoons and reality just don’t mix well?
well; actually no.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT (1988) SPACE JAM (1996) THE LEGOMOVIE (2014)
sometimes media uses this difference in style to their advantage; and i think that’s something that’s great about the industry we’re in; we have the ability to blend different visual styles together - and create designs that compliment one another, while sharing the screen.
THE GOLDILOCKS PRINCIPLE - “GETTING IT JUST RIGHT”
The Goldilocks principle is fairly self explanatory.
I’m sure we all know the analogy to the children's story "The Three Bears", but for anyone who doesn’t; here’s the basic synopsis:
“ a young girl named Goldilocks tastes three different bowls of porridge and finds she prefers porridge that is neither too hot nor too cold, but has just the right temperature. ”
The concept can be applied to uncanny valley - treating it as a spectrum; with realistic, and cartoony aesthetics on either side; it’s important for us to find "just the right amount"
Tumblr media
Characters who are translated into live action work because they maintain elements of cartoons - whilst still remaining within the conventions of reality; such as having realistic looking fur, hair or skin, and glossy eyes - with adjustments usually made to the proportions of these features so they’re aesthetically pleasing to look at due to being non-humanoid

A Ponderous Rewatch: In the Garden of Mindy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So today’s episode is neither a regular Pinky and the Brain skit nor a mere cameo. Today’s episode is…different, as the opening that spoofs the 1980s CBS Special Presentations pops up.
Perhaps the Warner Siblings can shed some light on this?
Tumblr media
“Hi. We’re the Warner Brothers.”
“…And the Warner Sister.”
Look at these smug little gremlin children. You just know something is wrong when they make faces like that.
Tumblr media
“And we’d like to invite you and all the members of your household…”
Tumblr media
“…to gather around the TV set and join us now…”
Tumblr media
“…for a very special episode of Animaniacs.”
Tumblr media
“And what’s so special about it?”
Tumblr media
“I’m not wearing any pants!”
…Wakko, you’re never wearing any pants.
Okay, okay, so we have the usual opening song and then the real explanation comes along.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Welcome to the Animaniacs test kitchen!”
Oh no…
Tumblr media
“We’re cookin’ up something really different for today’s show. All we need are our ingredients!”
Oh, kids, no!
Tumblr media
“A dash of Pinky and the Brain!~”
WARNERS, PLEASE!!!
Man, the mice look so worn out. Did they…try to escape the Warner Siblings to avoid this whole thing? Like, that’s the only reason I can think of for why they look so tired as opposed to surprised or nonchalant like the other characters: They’re exhausted from attempting to run away. And for Pinky to be tired out is very, very telling.
Tumblr media
“A cup of Slappy Squirrel!~”
Slappy is resigned to her fate.
Tumblr media
“A tablespoon of Goodfeathers~”
I’m sorry about the smear face I managed to capture on you, Yakko.
I love how Bobby’s smirking a little, Squit is grinning like usual, and Pesto is looking at both of them like “If this is in any way you guys’ fault, I swear to the Godpigeon you’re all in for a beaking.”
Tumblr media
“Add Rita, Runt, then swirl!~”
Meanwhile, Rita and Runt are just baffled.
Tumblr media
“We add a pinch of Hippos~”
Why do you only have one of them?
…Wait, this is a fat joke, isn’t it? Goddammit.
Tumblr media
“Buttons and Mindy, too~”
Tumblr media
“Now top it off with Skippy Squirrel~”
Buttons and Flavio right now:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“What’s that make?
Animaniacs Stew!~”
Well, okay. We can at least call everything that results from this by a catchy name: The Stew AU.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“What’d we come up with?”
“Just watch…”
Oooh, children. You’ve committed a culinary evil this day.
Tumblr media
“They’re Mindy and the Brain~”
So we’re mixing up the Animaniacs cast of characters and shows today.
[sighs]
Okay, so I guess it’s time to explain the basic premise of the Buttons and Mindy shorts and why they’re not fondly remembered, huh?
Well, the whole thing with Buttons and Mindy is a variation on the Baby’s Day Out type of scenario. Buttons the family dog is put in charge of guarding and babysitting Mindy, a friendly and curious toddler, by the mother of the family. The mother leaves to go…somewhere, and Mindy inevitably wanders off to chase after a bug or something new and interesting that she sees. Buttons goes after her because he loves Mindy very much and wants to keep her safe and be a Good Dog, and Mindy naively and unknowingly wanders into increasingly dangerous and life-threatening situations that Buttons must save her from, all the while getting beaten and bruised by the situations that were threatening Mindy.
The shorts usually end with Mindy and Buttons somehow ending up back home with Buttons ragged from the abuse he’s endured and Mindy perfectly fine except for maybe not being tied to her tether or in her playpen or whatever. The mother comes home and sees that Mindy is not quite where she was when she left her, or the surrounding area is a mess or something equally not that terrible, and berates Buttons for not taking better care of Mindy and calling him a Bad Dog.
And that’s where it ends.
If you’re not busting a gut at that description, congratulations, you are just like 90% of the Animaniacs audience.
The reason these shorts just don’t work for a lot of viewers, myself included, is that this kind of scenario is only funny once or maybe twice. After that, you just end up feeling bad for Buttons and don’t want to see a cartoon dog go through a conga line of pain that he doesn’t deserve. Not to mention that the whole premise can be boiled down to “Severe Parental Anxiety: The Show”, and not a lot of people like feeling that way for ten minutes or so per cartoon episode.
The reason the scenario works for a comedy movie like the aforementioned Baby’s Day Out is because the people going after the baby in that movie are kidnappers and obviously terrible people who only look out for the child’s safety so they can hold the kid for ransom, thus the pain they go through while the child remains okay is funny. Trying to do the same thing with an innocent family dog that just wants to keep a toddler safe? Not very funny at all. It’s just sad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Mindy and the Brain!
One’s a small child,
And the other’s…the Brain!~”
So now we have a Buttons and Mindy episode with Brain filling in for Buttons. Already this is…not great, but I suppose it’s the only suitable fit for Brain because he’d have it so, so much worse if he was put in the cast of the other skits.
I like the Goodfeathers skits, but I feel like Bobby and Pesto wouldn’t put up with his world domination shtick and end up berating him and/or beating him up. And Squit? Squit’s a do-gooder but he definitely doesn’t have Pinky’s level of passive subordination. Brain would be completely out of his league.
This isn’t to say that I wouldn’t want to see Brain interacting with the Goodfeathers, because holy shit yes PLEASE I would love the chaos that would ensue. I just think Brain wouldn’t last on his own with them.
Brain would, again, be completely out of his element in a Slappy Squirrel cartoon. Slappy’s skits hinge on her being a senior Looney Toon-type who knows just how to handle absurd scenarios and villains. Brain gets lost and confused incredibly quickly when unexpected situations pop up. He’s not a quick thinker in general. He’d be toast.
Being inserted into a Rita and Runt skit… Well, Rita wouldn’t be a good partner for obvious reasons that will become even more apparent later. And Runt is kind and a bit dimwitted but he’s no Pinky. Runt isn’t the type to be interested in helping to take over the world. He just doesn’t have the skills to do…almost anything that Pinky can, and he doesn’t have the drive to do it. Runt just wants a home and that’s it.
As for the Hip Hippos, there’s a skit of theirs down the line where Brain is involved and it honestly turns out about as well as it does for Brain in this episode.
So, let’s see how Brain fares in a world without Pinky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“He uses his lobe
To overthrow the globe!~”
Also, we’re again treated to TMS doing the animation, which certainly elevates this skit quite a bit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“She’s whimsy,”
I love how Brain goes from shock and surprise to absolute petulant grumpiness after seeing that Mindy put him in a jar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“They’re Mindy and the Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain!~”
If only this was the extent of your humiliation today, Brain. If only.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Various raspberry and baby babbling noises]
Tumblr media
“Hi, Lady!”
“It’s ‘Mom’.”
This is honestly the only joke I ever liked in the Buttons and Mindy shorts. Apparently it was based on something a real child of a friend of an Animaniacs creator would say to their mom.
Tumblr media
“Now listen, honey, mommy has to go to a better parenting conference. You stay right here and play.”
A “better parenting conference”, huh? Lady, you need it more than you know. For many reasons.
Tumblr media
“Okay Lady, I love you, buh-bye!~”
Is anyone else getting a horrid sense of foreboding and dread from Mindy’s doll looking like a simplified Elmyra?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Now, Brain, you keep an eye on Mindy while I’m gone.”
Nothing like leaving a mouse in a cage in charge of a toddler, huh?
Gosh, brain’s so adorably chubby in this episode. Look at him. Look at that grumpy face and that pudgy belly.
Tumblr media
“I always get an attitude from him…”
Yeah, he’s… Yeah. That’s Brain, all right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“At last, that meddler is gone! I’m free to begin my plan to…conquer the world!”
I love that back shot of Brain so much. It’s perfect. That’s the perfect Brain proportions and I can only dream of being able to draw cartoons that well.
Tumblr media
“First, I’ll use telepathy to open the cage.”
C-come again? “Telepathy”?
Brain, honey… You’re looking for the word “telekinesis”. You should know this.
Also I guess Pinky’s not the only one with telekinesis capabilities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fact that he cocks his head to the side when he turns the trowel with his mind is a nice little detail.
Tumblr media
“Now to get Mindy…”
That strut, though. He’s a mouse on a mission.
Tumblr media
“Come, Mindy, it’s time for us to conquer the world!”
...Okay, I’ll say it: Mindy is very cute in this shot.
Meanwhile Brain...looks like a gremlin.
Tumblr media
“Why?”
Tumblr media
“By right of superior intelligence, I am best suited to guide the destiny of this planet.”
Careful, Brain. You’re getting dangerously close to--
Tumblr media
“Why?”
Tumblr media
“My empirical powers give me the mandate.”
BRAIN, this is starting to sound like eugenics...!
Tumblr media
“Why?”
Tumblr media
“Because it’s something I want to do!”
Oh lord, without Pinky to reel him in and remind him of all the real reasons he wants to conquer the world, the Brain of this universe has devolved into a mouse driven purely by ego and spite.
His little tantrum is adorable, though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Okay, I love you! [MWAH~]”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I am uncomfortable with that.”
The Brain be like: What is this...”affection” you speak of? This is new and scary to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Now listen closely, Mindy: Using the gardener’s weed killer, manure, and a little zoysia grass,--”
Zoysia grass is an actual thing, by the way. It’s the kind of grass you see mostly on golf courses.
Tumblr media
“--I will construct a powerful stink bomb!”
GAH! No need to punctuate the term by making your eyes bulge, Brain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“We’ll use the lawn mower engine to construct a rocket and fill it with the gas. When precisely launched, the prevailing winds will spread the gas across the world’s capitals.”
As impressed as I would be with you being able to make a rocket from a lawn mower engine, Brain, it’s kind of overshadowed by you doing that thing again where you make a drawing animate like a video. Another strange power to add to the list, I suppose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“As the stench drives the government officials out into the streets, we will rush in and seize power!”
Good lord, Brain, calm down. You’re gonna break that pointing stick!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“You understand?”
“Mousey!~”
You’re...not very good with kids, are you, Brain?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Pretty Brain mousey…!”
Tumblr media
“I am mortified.”
I don’t see why, you look positively precious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Little mousey big head!”
Mindy, dear, I too wish to squish this cute little megalomaniacal mouse sometimes but you’re doing it way too hard.
Tumblr media
“Put me down, Mindy, or I shall have to hurt you.”
Tumblr media
“Okay, I love you, buh-bye!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Brain: [is a mouse with genius intellect and gadgetry know-how with the drive to take over the world]
Also The Brain: [gets dunked on by a toddler merely dropping him on the ground]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I sense I’ve completed the first step of my plan: Finding manure.”
That’s one way to look on the bright side, I suppose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sweetie, you’ve got something stuck on your head still.
Tumblr media
“Pungent aroma, if I do say so.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Now to construct the rocket…”
...Why would you take the mask off now? You’re still right over top of the stink bomb! Brain, have the fumes messed with your thinking abilities already?
I do like the animation of him tearing the mask off, though.
Tumblr media
“Buggy! Buggy!”
Tumblr media
“All right, Mindy: Bring me the mower!”
If you ever need a pose that sums up Brain perfectly, it’s this one right here. This is him distilled down to his purest form. God bless TMS for this.
Tumblr media
“Soon the world will be mine!”
Uh, yeah, about that...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Woooow! Buggy go fast! Wheeeeeee!~”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Whoooooaaaa! GAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!”
Tumblr media
“Beh, peh, EUGH!”
Brain’s plans go to shit really fast without Pinky around. Sometimes quite literally, it seems.
Tumblr media
“Buggy go ‘round!”
[Running in the 90s starts playing]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Ahahaha!”
Don’t worry folks. As always, Mindy is okay. Brain, however...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!”
Something I missed on my first viewing of this episode: the grass around Brain’s feet as he walks around covered in his stinkbomb juice dies near instantly.
Tumblr media
“Wahahahaha! Silly Brain!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“This is most unexpected.”
Is it, though? Is it really, Brain?
Tumblr media
So, uh, something that caught me off-guard while watching this for the first time is what happens next.
Pinky and the Brain is, obviously, a Warner Brothers cartoon with some Looney Toon sensibilities. Despite that, though, while there is the occasional being-flattened-like-a-pancake or being-covered-in-soot-after-an-explosion types of cartoon slapstick and such, it doesn’t really go much beyond that when it comes to cartoonish injuries and such. The worst I’d ever seen it get in this show is at the end of Opportunity Knox when Pinky and Brain are all wrapped up in bandages and some of their fur has been scraped off raw. Even then, that was surprisingly “graphic” for the show.
But this upcoming bit?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!! D8
--was my reaction the first time. It’s not bloody and gory, but seeing Brain being sliced into sections by a lawn mower is just...startling, to put it mildly. To my knowledge (and well, it has been decades since I regularly watched the show, so take this with a grain of salt), the Pinky and the Brain Animaniacs sketches and the spinoff never does something this Looney Toons to them.
And what really gets me is that he’s not just cut into sections with his eyeballs popped out, it’s that there’s an obvious hole in the middle of each section??? For some reason??? What that to imply space for his skeleton?!? A creamy center filling?!?
TMS, you could have just animated him in sections like some kind of mousey marshmallow, why did you include the holes?!?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Press F to Pay Respects]
Tumblr media
“Bleh! Brain smell like poo-poo!”
Tumblr media
“I must re-think my present career…”
Honestly, Brain? Without Pinky to help you, I’d say it’s a good idea to just try and escape this family first and then maybe try on your own to take over the world. You might have a slightly better chance then.
Tumblr media
“What’s that horrible smell?! Is that you, Brain?! Have you been allowing Mindy to feed you old cheese again? Bad mouse! Bad, bad mouse!”
Wait, “again”?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“…I hate being chided.”
You know, it’s interesting how he says that about this human woman chiding him, but in the regular Pinky and the Brain universe Pinky will sometimes chide Brain for doing something dubiously immoral, and while he may hate it there too...he more often than not backs down and admits to his faults when it’s Pinky doing it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“But she’ll be gone soon, then I can begin my plans for tomorrow: Another plot to take over the world!”
Tumblr media
“But first: A bath.”
I mean, yeah. Priorities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“He’s stinky,
They’re Mindy and the Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain!~”
Well, I never thought we’d get a Brain bath scene until the comics but here we are.
I wonder if Pinky would find it equally as appealing to watch as that one...
Tumblr media
Okay, that sure was...an episode. Let’s see how the other half of the equation is doing.
Tumblr media
“They’re Pinky and the Cat!
Yes, Pinky and the Cat!
Her name is Rita,~”
Oh NO...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love the contrast of these two shots. It’s as if Pinky’s self preservation instinct kicks in only long enough for him to be vaguely worried about having a cat in his cage...and his lack of attention span overtakes it and he does whatever the hell this is.
Tumblr media
“He’s a lab rat!~”
“A mouse!”
At least he still has it in him to be offended enough to correct the Warners about his actual species.
Tumblr media
“They live inside a cage,
Making less than minimum wage.~
Aww...
Oh, Pinky, sweetie... I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry for what’s about to happen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“It’s dinky,~”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“They’re Pinky and the Cat, Cat, Cat, Cat, Cat!~”
Pinky making faces in the reflection of the water bowl is another bit of animation that’s used in the spin-off’s opening theme. It’s kind of weird to pull something from this particular segment, but whatever.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“What do you want to do tonight, Rita?”
It was so difficult to get a shot of Pinky’s cute little coy stance here, but it was worth it. Look at this cute, naive little mouse. He just wants to be friends, Rita!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I dunno, eat you for supper?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[GULP]
[Press F to Pay Respects...Again]
Tumblr media
“So far, this is my favourite episode.”
Tumblr media
“Narf! Oh, roomy accommodations, Rita!”
Don’t worry, folks, he’s fine! Yup. He’s okay somehow.
Lord, I hope this didn’t awaken a vore fetish in anyone.
Tumblr media
“She ate the rat
‘cause Rita is a cat, cat, cat, cat, cat!~”
So yeah, that’s the end of this little experiment by the Warner Siblings. Well, the end of what’s relevant to this blog series, anyway. There’s also a skit with Pesto and Runt trying to find a home, which is honestly the best one out of this whole bunch of AU one-shots.
Then there’s a Katie Ka-Boom and Chicken Boo crossover, which is as underwhelming as you can imagine.
There’s a short where Dot takes the place of Slappy Squirrel, which goes about as well as it can after the theme song repeatedly calls her “Dottie the Squirrel”.
Lastly, Slappy takes the place of Dot in a Warner Siblings skit (with a cameo with Flavio as Skippy) where the Warners barge in on a very thinly veiled parody of Saddam Hussein and, uh... Well, it’s about as awkward to watch as it sounds. Props to Slappy for not really being interested in any part of that skit, though.
Man, after this utterly bizarre set of skits, I think we really need that full episode length Pinky and the Brain episode, don’t we?
Soon, folks. Soon.
See you then!

Goof Week: Goofy Birthday Shortstacular!
Tumblr media
Hyuck all you happy people! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY GOOFY! The celebration already got on track today with a look at the two part goof troop pilot. You can find that here.
That review kicked off GOOF WEEK my weeklong look at all things Goofy, but as is tradition on this blog the birthday of one of the big three wouldn’t’t be complete without a look at their theatrical shorts career. And with this one i’ve covered all three of Disney’s biggest stars having covered Donald last june (and will again next month) and Mickey in September so it’s long overdue that my boy gets a shot and even longer overdue I watched some of his classic shorts.
A large part of why I started doing these is because I love classic theatrical shorts and the reason I love looking at the Disney ones is, unlike Looney Toons or Tom and Jerry, I didn’t grow up with these and Disney never replayed them. At most you’d get one or a small slice of one in a House of Mouse episode. So this is a fun way to dive right into history and see a piece of Disney I’ve only started scratching the surface of.
This is a fun one too. I ended bumping this up to 12 shorts again, and i’m glad as it allowed me to take a look at some of the weirder stuff and we go all over the place: We have dancing, goofy begging for a smoke, goofy devlopnig a split personality that calls him fat a bunch, a prototypical max who is a LOT, trips to medevil times and cowboy times, a tex avery esque noir short, and the lead in short to National treasure. If any of that sounds like a real good time to you, then keep reading under the cut!

Mickey’s Revue (1933)
Goofy was created by his VA Pinto Colvig, who based the character on the local happy go lucky moron from his home town, and after a dicussion with Walt it was decided to roll him into Mickey’s growing supporting cast.
My guess from here is they decided to do a dry run to make sure the character worked with audeinces before giving him a full time roll. Given Goofy’s been both a staple of Mickey’s supporting cast and often more popular than the mouse or even the duck, you can see how that went.
Colvig was awesome. While Bill Farmer is my preferred Goofy, I still tip my hat to the original and it’s clear this was a character he was born t play and it shows: a lot of characters take a short or too to really find their personality. Goofy.. has his early shorts persona straight out of the box> The only weird thing is he’s an ol dman here.. but otherwise his schick here, loudly eating peanuts, laughing a bit too loud and annoying everyone around him with no genuine malice.. that’s Goofy and Pinto really hit onto something and as we’ll see today had a TON of range beyond this.
As for the rest of the short.. it’s forgetable. It’s not BAD, but it’s just Mickey and friends capering on stage. Nothing really out of the oridnary for these early Mickey Shorts, especially since some of them could get really damn creative.
Tumblr media
The Whoopee Party (1933)
Now we have Goofy’s first proper appearance, going from joke character in the crowd to full member of Mickey’s friend group.
This one is also just okay, but better than the last: Mickey and friends throw a wild party, with Mickey, Goofy and Horace making the sammiches. Goofy dosen’t do much btu gets a good gag or two, and overall it’s alright. Enjoyabl efor it’s lively animation and not much else.
Tumblr media
Goofy and Wilbur (1936) Three years later we get Goofy’s proper debut, a cute short about him using his Cricket friend to fish. That’s not the exestitnal nightmare that it sounds like mind you as Wilbur simply tricks them into Goofy’s net an donly gets eaten when they catch on and Goofy runs to his aid. The short really is more about Wilbur but it’s fair: like with Donald , who was paired with Pluto in his first solo short, they wanted to test the waters before having Goofy carry a cartoon himself. As we’ll see he very well could, but it’s fair to want ot backdor pilot it first and it’s easily one of the best shorts of today’s batch.
Tumblr media
How to Play Baseball (1937)
First off while they make a good effort I already know how ot play baseball short...
Tumblr media
How To Play Baseball is my faviorite of the Goofy Shorts on Disney Plus, which is a VERY small batch. Especailly since most of Today’s shorts aren’t at all problematic or inapproriate for kids. This one is a gem though. It’s one of the How To Shorts where a narrator goes ove rgoofy trying and failing at an activity though this one’s a tad diffrent.
The How To Narrator teaches us about baseball before narrating the world series game. It’s full of cleve slapstick, high speed animation and plain fun. It’s also part of the trend that would dominate Goofy’s sports career of putting him in whatever roll the shorts needed. Here he’s everyone at once, others he’s his old goofy self, other time sh’es just a normal joe. But Colvig does every version amazingly, so it all meshes and that general goofy design is so appealing it just WORKS.  So yeah while i’m not into sports I do genuinely love the How To shorts, as they were my faviorite part of House of Mouse and still are, and the originals are every bit as classic as their reputation says they are.
Tumblr media
A Knight For A Day (1946)
This one is the only other one of these on Disney Plus and it’s decent enough. Nothing incredibble or extra specail: Goofy plays a Squire who has to fil lin for his Knight in a tournament and tries to win a princesses hand against another douchier goofy. Simple stuff iwth some fun gags, but it just dosen’t feel all that fresh, especially since Disney already did a much better shorts with knights with Mickey’s “Ye Olden Days”. It just dosen’t feel as fun or creative as that one was btu on it’s own it’s fine. Nothing great, nothing terrible, just fine. First short of the day to feature Goofy’s faceless blonde love interest who in domestic shorts is his wife and by the same extension Max’s now dead mother.
Tumblr media
Tomorrow We Diet (1951)
We’ve got three from 1951 here. By this point Goofy had traditioned from lovable bumbler to every man, taking on a more generalized personality to fit into every day slice of life scenarios, using those to brilliantly contrast the goofy animated comedy with the more mundane setting it comes from. And sometimes it’s just straight up sticom humor with the ocasoinal joke you could only do in a cartoon.  And sometimes.. you get a version of Goofy who lives in a mirror taunting Goofy over being fat and then trying to keep him on his diet while it’s not clear if thi sis a split personality, a mirror ghost tormenting him that took his form and is doing this so Goofy breaks the mirror and frees him, or his evil doppleganger from another universe.
Tumblr media
Yeah .. one of the centerpieces of this short is Goofy’s reflection/split personality/earth 3 doppleganger/some sort of evil genie taunt shim abotu the fact he’s putting on weight startnig by saying “Hey Fat”... because apparently in this unvierse the best weight joke they can come up with is literally just calling someone fat. I bet I know who rules THIS timeline with an iron fist....
youtube
The first half of this short is Goofy being told he’s fat by a bunch of people and the second half is his hallucination/psychotic break/guardian asshole tormenting him with the diet. And I do mean tormenting: He knocks away all of Goofy’s food, then suggests he not even eat his carrot and STARVE himself, which is just deeply unhealthy, and earlier forces Goofy to let him read his book and then tell shim to just diet anyway. Which granted dieting IS sensible.
So yeah this short as you can probably guess by the fact it involves the term “Hey Fat” which was only said by a human being once.. Dick Kinney or Mick Shaffer, the writers of ths short,  when one pitched the line to the other and they laughed for some reason and put it in the script. But with that you can wager this short is REALLY outdated> Overating CAN be a problem and fat shaming still exists, but it’s far less tolerated and far less of a thing.
And hell I can tolerate a good natured weight joke, the Critic had some great ones, especially as a fat guy myself... but this isn’t good natured. The entire joke is, as the man said above HE’S FAT.. So as a legit short. it’s deeply unfunny at best, horribly insulting at worst. But as a so bad it’s good short? it’s GOLD. From the whole mirror goofy thing, to the fact fat is seen as a legit insult here or something to just call fat people because that’s what the writers thoguht humans, even in the 50′s talked like it’s just riffably cruel.. though it will obviously depend onthe viewers tolerance for both fat jokes and how creepy the short can be and again as a short it sucks. As something to be mocked for fun.. it’s fat with potential
Tumblr media
Father’s Are People (1951)
Hey Kids you wanna see Max and Goofy reenact Problem Child?
Given I did Goof Troop earlier this week and i’m finishing this week with A Goofy Movie, it shouldn’t come as a huge shocker that I wanted to cover the first short with Goofy’s son Juinor, who’d later be remolded into Max.
The short STARTS promising with Goofy having a kid and the hyjinks that comes from having a baby child: Goofy passes out Cigars because Lung Cancer was the preferred way of celebrating having a child in the 50′s, runs himself ragid helping out, which I give the short credit for as “Donald’s Diary” three years later would play a man helping a woman around the house for horror. Here George (Goofy would often go by George Geef in later shorts) pitches in and while he’s clearly exausted he is trying to help with the boy.
It takes a turn though once we jump ahead to a toddler Junior. Seriously a red head named junior... there’s no way that’s a coincidence. Anyways, the problem is unlike problem child, where Junor dosen’t really go after his dad but the assholes around his pushover dad who genuinely deserve it, this Junior goes after Goofy who at wors tis mildly negelectful but clearly loves his boy> He also DOES try to take a brus hto the kid... but it’s hard to be too mad about that as it was acceptable at the time and he dosen’t actually paddle a three year old. It’s like a less horrfying version of donald puttin ga penguin to a shotguns face in that the targeted party dosen’t see the threat and that goofy isn’t some form of sociopath in this short like Donald was there. It’s just not very funny and only worth watching at all for the historical value.
Tumblr media
No Smoking! (1951) (Patreon Selection by WeirdKev27)
This is my first of two Patreon selections, my patreon is here if you want to chip in a buck to pick a short for Donald’s birthday next month, by longtime friend and backer of the blog Kev. He suggested this one for the sheer absurdity of Goofy smooking.. and was right on the money> This one is DELGITHFUL.
It works on two levels: it works on the modern level of seeing such an iconic cartoon grapple with trying to quit smoking, first smoknig so constantly a giant cloud appears over him and he has about 80 cigs in his mouth at once, but then trying to quit and being surrounded bycigs before finally DESPERATELY begging for one. As I discovered you really HAVEN’T lived till you’ve heard goofy madly call out “Smoke, smoke gotta have a smoke”.
But while the novelty IS great.. it’s also just a good cartoon. Outside of some blatant racisim at the start, with a native american sterotype introducing smoking to colmbus which feels so wrong to type I need a shower and really puts a damper on the short which after that.. is just really funny. From the smoking through the ages, to the very creative smoking gags it’s just fun.. and it is CLEARLY anti-smoking, showing both the insane amount of cigrte smoker can go through and how mad the addiction can drive you. It’s not bad... though if you can’t stomach the blatant and terrible racisim.. I get that and it’s fair.
Tumblr media
Two Gun Goofy (1952)
This is one of two “put Goofy in another setting all together” pieces, both in the same year which tells me they were trying to find new stuff to do for Goofy. Thi sisn’t unheard of in cartoons: Around the same time and before Bugs Bunny went all over the world and thorugh time and space, and Mickey went through the looking glass and had two fantasy shorts, so i’ts not unusual
But what IS neat about these next two shorts is they combined the two goofys: he has his goofy demanor and oblivoiusness from the classic shorts, but still has his deeper, slightly less goofy voice from the everyman shorts and is still treated as an average joe, just one now undertaking genre careers, here a cowboy and next a detective
This short is decent. I’m a sucker for cowboy episodes apparently: either old west style showdowns or having the characters go to a dude ranch or something. So naturally I picked this one and was told Max was in it an dhe is... in a two second cameo when Goofy has a thought bubble after meeting faceless lady.
But this is a really enjoyable picture. not Disne’y sbest but good stuff. It also pairs Goofy with pete which really is a perfect pairing, putting our scowling rotund villian against our skinny well meaning hero. And while i’ts a common gag in a lto of things I do love Goofy accidently beating the shit out of pete as the short finds fun ways to do it. All in all worth a watch.
Tumblr media
How to Be a Detective (1952)
This one was a REALLY fun one. Like with westerns i’m a sucker for a good noir parody, even if ironically I haven’t watched much of either genre proper. Add in the fact this is clearly inspiried by Tex Avery’s work and i’m sold on this fun madcap romp with an approraitely more noirsh narrator.
Goofy is naturally a detective and hired by the faceless woman to find “Al” having to contend with both a goon he keeps failing to recognize and The Chief of Police, played by Pete, who keeps telling him “I told ya to stay off the case Goof!”. It’s just the delivery makes it funny any time he says it as does his instance... and the punchline, which I won’t spoil to both that an dthe overaching mystery i sa gem. This one’s on youtube, seek it out, it’s damn fun. Before I go thoguh I also love how Goofy is Given “Goof Balls”. Yes GOOFY GETS DRUGGED and I am here for it
Tumblr media
Father’s Day Out (1953)
I couldn’t find any GIF’s for this one, not even one’s in teh same tag that were unrelated so here, have more smoking Goofy. It will never not be funny.
This one is ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhtastic. Goofy is overworked, wnats to rest on his weeknd, and stuff gets in the way. Oh and halfway through he abrubtly has to take Max to the beach. It’s.. not much honestly. It’s like the simpsons if it wasn’t funny.
Tumblr media
How To Hook Up Your Home Theater (2007) (Emma Fici Patreon Selection)
You may notice the MASSIVE time jump here. That’s because while Disney still does theatrical shorts nowadays, in part because Pixar’s shorts turned out to be a huge hit, they almost never use the classic cast. This delightful anamoly is one of the few exceptions and was picked by Emma out of sheer curosity. And she picked well this short is fun, feelnig like a big budget version of the House of Mouse How To Shorts I loved so an dhaving a modern yet still ultimatley timeless subject: while the tech featured is missin ga streaming box and 4k, otherwise it really has aged incredibly well and getting all the diffrent modes set up and what not is a hassel we al lcan agree with.
It’s a fun short with lots of good gags and humor as Goofy tries to set up his Home Theater before the big game, and worth a watch. Weirdly not on Disney+ though try explaining that one.
One final note is for whatever reason this was paired up with National Treasure: Book of Secrets.
Tumblr media
My BEST GUESS i sthat it appeals to the kinds of dads who’d watch National Traesure: Book of Secrets as well as kids since it’s an adventure film. Though it now makes me want to see Nicholas Cage voice goofy. Get on it Disney. Not forever though, Bill’s a treasure. Just for a gag like Don Cheadle vocing Donald.. oh god put them together.. and then have them do a movie together I don’t think they have and do not know why.
Final Ranking: As a bit of added fun to close this out and as a new feature for these i’m ranking today’s shorts from best to worst How To Be A Detective How To Play Baseball No Smoking Goofy and WIlbur How To Hook Up Your Home Theater Two Gun Goofy The Whoopee Party Mickey’s Revue Tommorow We Diet A Knight for A Day Father’s Are People Father’s Weekend
For the record despite not being a GOOD short Tommorow we diet is at least intresting, hence i’ts ranknig while Father’s weekend is just a boring 50′s version of problem child. Fathers are People at least has some good gags to set it off.
So thank you for reading and if you liked this review give it a like and consider joining my patreon at patreon.com/popculturebuffet. As a patron you’d get access to exclusive reviews, the patreon’s discord and to pick a short each time I do one of these shortstaculars. Donald’s comnig next month and the deadline is in only a few days to join up for said month so the clock is ticking. Even a dollar a month helps me reach my stretch goals so please i fyou can sign up today and if not, I understand and i’ll see you at the next rainbow

*SPOILERS AHEAD*I would like to stress before getting into the meat and potatoes of this, that when I watch movies MADE FOR CHILDREN I go in with an open mind off the rip. You cannot assume that a movie that has targeted an age group years younger than you would appeal to your specific movie tastes as an adult. With that being said, I have also asked children if they enjoyed watching it and they all have said yes with a smile on their face. Safe to say they made the money and impact they intended to make with this movie so big score for Warner brothers. Now my true opinion is that this was a big flex film for WB and they showed us pretty much all the characters and properties that they own. The cameos were PHENOMENAL in this movie. I adore Easter eggs and many viewers do as well so beholding the amazing world of All these characters was very fun. Let’s get this part of the review out of the way completely…yes Lebron did terrible: we knew he would😅. He has done some voice acting up until now so he does have some experience emoting and acting on que. His line delivery was bad when things got serious. I think it was pretty hilarious when he made fun of himself in the middle of the movie. Everyone playing his family were pretty meh as well on the acting. It was nice seeing a beautiful family with predominantly chocolate kids in the house🤗. We chocolates don’t get a lot of love, especially Americans. While I watched on my live I had a fan inform me that the lady playing Lebron’s wife was in a Star Trek movie. I’m going to assume she did her real acting there…she was in Space Jam for looks🙃. I was really whelmed by Don Cheadle and his strange performance as the Quirky villain of this film🤨. All the live action actors in this film were cornier than the state of Iowa to be honest. You would never guess this man Cheadle was once the lead of “Hotel Rwanda”🤣. Let us move onto who I was waiting for, those tooooooons!!! Bugs bunny was voiced by the AMAZING Billy West who did a fantastic job giving me all the jokes. It was sad to think that with the years going by the toons decided to leave Tuneworld (that looked suspiciously like the App “looney tunes back in action” rendition of tune world) for better opportunities in this new internet driven world. The strange places that they found each character were hilarious to watch. Lola becoming an Amazon made all the sense and Zendaya did FINE!!! What were people expecting? Lola Bunny is an iconic character but at the end of the day she is a SIDE CHARACTER. She has never had her own cartoon shorts, nor her own show. Her character is actually very flexible and fans need to allow that. Literally anyone can voice her. For the lines she had, Zendaya delivered them beautifully. I thought it was cute when they wore their old tune squad jerseys to practice in😅. The tunes being live actionized was unnecessary and annoying! Lebron should have stayed a cartoon. The biggest problem for Lebron was putting the fun back into basketball and not understanding that as much as his son liked basketball he didn’t love it like video games. He built an entire game from scratch…that’s amazing at 12 or 13 years of age! Like most parents he wanted his son to follow in his footsteps, but little Lebron decided to get bold at the worse possible moment, at a damn meeting with the owners of the company in the middle of a major deal for his dad😅. They both get kidnapped by an emotional computer program and end up having to play Little Lebron’s video game for their lives and everyone else who is watching the game. On top of all of this drama, the looney tunes would be deleted😭. HIGHER STAKES than the first space jam JUST SAYING. Jordan was only playing for his freedom and the looney tunes freedom…not everyone in the world who decided to open their phone that day🥴. There was a simple moral to the movie “just do you” or “be yourself” something along those lines that is ridiculously over done and cliche. It was definitely a Meh movie, but the merchandise selling is what I am here for!

Poem 31: Thank You
A short poem from Alice and Poet, but a longer recording because I have my own two cents to add in as just me. I want to give a huge HUGE thank you to @halfusek for hosting Ink Demonth for the second year in a row. Thank you for all that you do to make the Bendy community as great as it is, you’re an absolute delight, your art is amazing, and you’re super sweet to all of us in the audience! This is the first month-long creative challenge of any kind that I’ve managed to see through to completion, and I’m happy with the result. I’ve learned a lot from it that I’m gonna continue to use for a long time.
I also need to give another thank you to AJ and Steve ( @ahjones94 and https://twitter.com/HypeVoiceActing ) for all of their help with these audio pieces. You guys are awesome, and I’m proud to not only work with you, but call you my friends. <3 It wouldn’t be the same without you!
And now you get the full audio transcript below, not just the poem! Plus some project links to my friends, as promised.~

A Fond Farewell
By: Kat Alyst
Poet: Well dear listeners,
It seems our time together has come to an end.
I won’t pretend
I didn’t enjoy it.
Because truly, I did.
You’ve been a delight to have around
Even though you’re not in our underground.
And it’s been a pleasure entertaining you
For the long month that it’s been.
Twisted Alice: Really and truly,
It’s been nice having you here. And seeing all your lovely compliments has made this angel feel heaven-sent. We may be stuck in this dingy old studio, but our stories will always live on out there, with you.
Poet: Quite right dear angel!
It’s really a shame,
I wish I weren’t running out of tapes.
I know, there are steaks,
but it’d be nice to entertain again, you know?
It’s been so long since our show.
Surely we’re due for a comeback, yes?
Twisted Alice: Quite. Though it’d be a bit of a “dark revival,” all things considered. -chuckles- Either way, it’s been nice having an audience that doesn’t hate my guts. Thank you all for listening in.
Poet: Indeed. Dear viewers,
I hope you’ll consider looking back
at all the lovely stories we shared together.
And if you keep the tether,
Consider listening again during stormy weather.
A good story is the best medicine
When you’re having a cloudy day.
Until I can find more tapes to record on,
Here’s wishing you well out there.
Come back again soon!
Your Poet is always ready with their monsoon of verses for you!
Kat: Wait, wait, don’t cut the tape just yet!
Greetings everyone, my name is Kat Alyst, and I am the writer and voice behind the Poet, and all of these Ink Demonth poems.
I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you so so much for all of your support throughout this month. This has been such a fun challenge for me, to test out my skills as a writer, a voice actor, and as an audio editor, and it feels so good to be in all of those things.
I think the thing that surprised me the most is just the amount of people that stuck around to listen to all of these.
Like I get it, poetry is not the first thing you think of when you hear “Bendy and the Ink Machine,” but it’s like, I’ve gotten to do so many fun things. I don’t think I’ve ever seen “fandom poetry” as a big thing that anybody’s explored, but there’s a lot of potential for it in a series like this.
I don’t know if I’ll ever do any Bendy poems again, but this was a really fun experiment, and I’m glad that I went through with it.
Before I let you go, I feel it’s important that I give a huge, HUGE thank you to Steve and AJ for all the help that they’ve given me throughout this month. Like oh my god, you guys are superstars,  and I love you. Steve (HyperVoiceActing) was our voice actor for Joey Drew, Bendy, Boris, and Generic Toon #47. Yes, I’m sticking with that name and you can’t stop me.
He’s also been my primary ‘sound board,’ just the person that I’ve been talking to the most with making sure that I’m doing a good job of all of this. ‘Cause I’m still very amateur when it comes to audio editing, and sometimes it really helps to have a second pair of ears. So Steve, thank you so much for everything you’ve done, you are phenomenal.
AJ (BigBlue VA) was our voice of Henry in that one skit (27: Fight, he was also the Butcher Gang). AJ and I have been working together for a long time, and he is hysterical. So I was really looking forward to that as well. Just both of these guys have had some amazing performances throughout this whole thing, and I couldn’t do it without them. So thank you again.
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work with these two before, be it on projects with our other friends or projects that they’ve been doing, so if you’d like to hear some work we’ve done together, I’m gonna link a little bit in the description. HyperVoiceActing is the channel for Steve and BigBlue VA is the channel for AJ. So go show them some love, they’re amazing at what they do, and it would really mean a lot to me.
So with all that said and done, thank you so much for tuning into the Ink Demonth. And comment down below, what was your favorite poem of the bunch? Well, technically most of them were poems, a few of them were audio skits, but I wanna know what you think. I wanna know what you think I could be doing in the future too, because I am totally open to doing more crazy projects, it’s always a great time to just go in there and have some fun. So thank you again so much for tuning in, and I hope you all have a great rest of the day. Don’t let the Ink Demon bite! Ta-ta!

An Animation-Term and Keyword List For People Who Haven’t Studied Animation
I’ve decided it’s time to put my BFA in animation to use and share with you all about 40 terms I could get off the top of my head that I’ve seen confusion and misconceptions about.
If you know a term that was missed here, feel free to add a definition or ask for one!
Animation (in this context) -- The act of taking a series of images and putting them in a sequence next to each other which is then viewed in rapid succession, thus giving the images the illusion of movement.
Anime -- The Japanese word for “animation”. This term is often used to refer to the style of drawing in the west, but it literally ONLY means “animation”.
Animatic -- Unfinished visuals and audio cut together into a watchable video format. This is NOT another word for short animation. An animatic would use visuals from a storyboard rather than rough or finished animation
Anticipation -- A slower movement made by a character to lead into action. This is used to great effect in comedy animation and in games like Dark Souls. The posing and buildup makes you expect something is going to happen.
Cel -- A tool for animating. Traditionally, this is a sheet of clear plastic that a frame of animation is drawn on and painted color is applied to. These are set on top of background images and photographed so they can be used in the final animation. The term can also be applied to hand-drawn digital animation. Pre-digital nearly everything was animated in this fashion, like Bugs Bunny cartoons or classic Disney movies. Some Japanese animation is still done like this, but the move to digital has only recently begun there.
Claymation -- A branch of stop motion animation, it is when moldable clay is shaped, photographed, and reshaped in a manner that gives it the illusion of movement.
CGI -- Stands for Computer Graphics Imagery. Any image that is generated by a computer. This applies to all digital artwork, even 2D, but is most commonly used to refer to 3D images created by a computer.
2D -- Flat images such as those you would draw on paper. They have height and width but no depth.
3D -- Images with height, width, and depth. Computer generated images and physical sculptures fall under this category. 3D computer animation and stop-motion animation are 3D.
3D Computer Animation / 3D Animation -- Animation done on a computer specifically using 3D software to either give the image more depth or to make it look more lifelike. It is made by creating digital sculptures of characters which a “rig” is attached to which gives the animator the ability to move the sculpture like a puppet. If you say 3D animation, people will know you are referring to computer animation. Most American movies in the past decade are or include 3D animation.
Digital -- Any animation done on a computer. This applies to 3D animation, 2D graphic animation, and hand drawn animation done on a computer. Most animation has moved to digital formats because of computers ability to automatically in-between--thus saving large amounts of work. Computers also eliminate the need to physically store easily lost or damaged piles of paper and film, and they eliminate the need to manually photograph individual animation frames.
Flash -- Refers to the now mostly defunct Adobe Flash program which gave animators the ability to turn 2D drawings into puppets that could be animated. The similar Adobe equivalent is now called animate. It popularized a style of puppeted animation similar to paper cutouts in a digital format, but while it is known for that, it can be used for hand drawn animation as well. This puppet style of animation has improved dramatically since it’s beginning in Flash, and the same (or similar) technique is used by people who animate with programs like Toon Boom. Shows animated in flash include Johnny Test and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
Frames -- A single image as part of the whole animation. A picture of a cel on a background would be one frame.
Frame rate/ Frames per second -- How quickly the frames are played back for the viewer. Film standard is 24 FPS, or 24 frames played in rapid succession for the duration of 1 second. Games often play at 30-60 FPS to aid reaction time.
1′s and 2′s -- To animate something on “1′s” means to create 24 distinct frames to play for a full second. 24:24, or, just 1. 2′s--also known as 12FPS--similarly means you do half that amount of work. 24:12. Most things are animated at 12FPS because it is less work and accomplishes approximately the same thing as animating on a full 24 frames. Animations at these rates are still played at 24FPS. Contrary to popular belief, classic Disney movies are mostly animated on 2′s.
3′s and 4′s and so on -- Like 1′s and 2′s, but less. 8 and 6 FPS respectively. These rates are used more commonly in television than movies, but even then rarely. 3′s and 4′s most often exist in conjunction with 1′s and 2′s to both save work and give the animation more expression. These are also always played at 24FPS. Studio Trigger most notably animates like this.
Hand-Drawn -- Animation that is fully drawn by hand and does not involve manipulating a puppet character. Traditional 2D animation is hand drawn, Flash animation isn’t.
Hold -- When a frame or pose lasts longer than normal. A hold can be completely still or have slight movement. They are used to break up action and very often used to create anticipation of an action.
In-between -- Frames that connect the action happening between keyframes. They change something from a set of poses to actual animation.
Keyframe -- Important frames in the animation, often major poses in an action. These are sometimes taken from storyboards but not always.
Meaningful animation -- Or animation with intent. Parts of an animation that were specifically made to do a certain thing. This comes up in discussions about higher frame rates and whether or not they matter to a work. An action that could be expressed in 8 frames played at 24 FPS does not necessarily need 24 frames, because the additional frames provide too much visual input, could be drawn more poorly, or are a waste of time to do. A computer generated tween is not always meaningful because it was not always intended to exist by the animator. The frames generated when you take an animation at 24FPS and modify it to be 60FPS are not meaningful.
Mocap/ Motion Capture -- When a person wears a silly suit with little balls or other markings on it and acts around a stage, that is for motion capture and animation reference. Motion capture tracks a persons movement and can apply it to a 3D rig, but it is not perfect so animators are still needed to correct the movements and make it work in the final product. This is used in many live action movies that feature CGI and notoriously in The Polar Express.
Mograph/ Motion Graphics -- This is the animation style used in many commercials, how-to explainer videos, and animated company logos. This is the lovechild of graphic design and animation. It is most often 2D, sleek, and heavily design focused as opposed to character focused. Most often made in Adobe After Effects.
Paper cutout -- A form of stop motion animation where pieces of paper are placed on a flat surface and photographed from above. This can be done with light from the front to see the full detail of the paper, or back lighting to give it the effect of shadow-puppetry. The first animated film was done in this style.
Pre-production -- Work that is done before something is animated. Includes character designs, environment designs and layouts, scripting, storyboards, audio recording, and anything else necessary to have done before you begin the arduous process of animation.
Post-production -- Anything that needs to be added after all pre-production and animation is finished. It includes editing everything together, adding effects, and whatever else must be done before you can call something “finished”.
Procedurally Generated Animation -- This is animation made entirely in a computer through use of algorithms. Used more often in games than anything else. Animations are generated in real time to create more variety in the movement. It allows for things that can’t be done with pre-made animations like making characters feet land and/or slip on rocks or track their head and eyes to look at something.
Puppet Rig/ Rig -- A skeleton applied to any type of puppet you want to animate. 3D and puppeted stop motion animations both use this, though in stop motion it is more likely called an armature. 2D animations like Flash animations also use these
Onion Skin -- A 2D animation term. In traditional animation, a person works on paper over a light table which shines light through the paper and lets them see the frames they’re animating between. In digital animation, you press a button and the onion skin will display in either a lighter color or different hue the frames in front of or behind where you’re working to a point you can set and adjust. It’s called onion skin because peeled onions are transparent.
Reference -- Looking at something from life to base your work on. If you are animating a flying bird, you need to know how their wings move, so you need to watch birds or maybe film them and play it back slowly so you can see the small details. Animation since Snow White has used life action reference heavily, many old animated movies were fully acted out and recorded before they were animated. Movies today don’t do that much, but animators will record themselves acting out scenes they’re working on to capture body language and lip sync. Reference is not tracing or rotoscoping, but it can be.
Rotoscope -- Animation drawn directly over life action footage. This is reference to it’s extreme, because the drawings do not take inspiration from the movements so much as they are an exact recreation. It is often easily noticed for the higher framerate it often has and for having movement unnatural to animation. Unless the character is heavily stylized, rotoscoped animation often looks strongly like real people. 2D animation traced over 3D animation is not rotoscope. Motion capture is also not rotoscope. Many classic Fleischer films had rotoscoped sequences and Anastasia is known for it’s heavy use of the technique.
Rough Animation -- Animation in it’s early stages, it may not be fully in betweened, but even if it is, it isn’t cleaned up or finished. Drawings in the rough stage are often messy and incomplete so it is easier to throw out frames and replace them.
Rough Cut -- The next step from an animatic. A rough cut contains all finished and unfinished work as a preview of what the final product can be. They can have any combination of animatic materials, rough animation, and finished work.
Stop motion -- Animation of physical objects on a set, photographed one frame at a time. Covers everything from claymation, to paper cut outs, to puppets, and more. More prominent in early film as visual effects before that became what it is known as today. The most popular form is puppet animations like those done by Laika studios.
Storyboard -- A sequence of rough drawings paired with script that dictate what will happen in an animation. These are not keyframes for animation, nor should they themselves be animated.
Timeline -- In digital animation, this is the bar that holds the individual frames in sequence so they can be played and viewed as you work. You can also stretch the frame length to last longer or shorter, hence “time”.
Traditional (Cel animation) -- Earliest form of 2D animation, the same as hand drawn animation only it’s done on physical paper. The terms are blurred together however, so when talking about traditional animation you may need to specify whether it’s on paper or digital.
Tweens -- Computer generated in-between frames. Applies to 3D animation, but most often refers to puppet rig 2D animation like flash animations. Often used as a derogatory phrase, as computer generated frames can lack the visual appeal of hand made ones. Tweens move extremely smoothly and evenly from pose to pose, which is the tell of a puppet rigged animation.
VFX -- Stands for visual effects. They are effects applied to a film in post-production that can be CGI or not, but are very often CGI. Includes aspects such as explosions, weather effects, background details, cleanup, etc.

November Favorites 2020!
 Hello!
So as you may have seen I have been uploading a bunch of art all of November, not every week because of my crippling job at the moment taking away my sanity.lol. But i did try my best to update whenever I can. I do have so much more to complete so please look out this December for more digital art being pumped out
How are you all doing?  I'm holding up decently, I'm trying to avoid talking about covid since that's all i've been hearing from work and home and it's really making me anxious since i'm not able to work from home due to the nature of my job. I hope you all are holding up hope and taking care of your selves, let's all remember that there is a time after this and we will get through this.
with that being said I will have a lot more time to spend on my art after January since my work term is going to end and I don't plan to stay for an extension, so maybe then I'll catch up on all of my previous art that I was supposed to upload, a.k.a my hero academia ones.lol
also I'm still chugging along reading more manhwa (web toons ) from korean and chinese artists, i'm so disappointed in myself for not discovering these sooner, these stories are really good and so much effort was put into the art panels, as I have said all I've read was manga so i'm used to just seeing black and white panels, so i never really dove into web toons though I have appreciated the work put into it, now that I'm down the rabbit hole I am discovering really good story lines that are different from the manga I've read thus far and I'm really enjoying it!
so i'm excited to share my thoughts on everything I've been liking
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                           Manhwa/Manga/Webtoon
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
so previously in last months recommendations I have talked about a few of the manhwa I've been reading so I'll briefly list those below since they are all still ongoing
1) who's baby is it
2) to be or no to be
3) social temperature
4) salad days
all of them are still ongoing and i'm still in the process of reading them so I can't give a full review till it's completed but so far I am still enjoying them, that's definitely a good sign since i tend to just drop something after I don''t find it interesting anymore at some point in the story. If you have not read my October favorites journal please do so for my initial thoughts on these manhwas. Now i'm actually going to talk about some of the ones that are completed   , so you can definitely read all of them without waiting for the an update from translators, lol
this is in no particular order, just fyi
1) Path to you
Tumblr media
"When almost college dropout Jensen attempts to drink away his problems, unemployed Nathaniel( Neil ) suddenly pukes on him and ruins his night. As an apology, Nathaniel offers to help Jensen with his studies. Despite Jensen's difficulties in getting along with people, the two become friends and something deeper begins to grow between them...”
this is the summary from one of the manga websites I was able to find, it does not even describes the emotional plot line that goes along with this later, this is ones of my absolute favorites! I love this manhwa so much, its a great depiction of a coming of age story for collage students going through their life journey and slowly getting though life's difficulties  and challenges, one character is going though emotional trauma and trying to over come it for years and another character is going through anti social disorder and discovering his sexuality, it's a plot line that portrayed human aspects in life quite well. I love the relationship between the two main character and how their relationship developed over time from being friends to being a couple. there is a lot of relationship building and minimal drama, which is really refreshing from mangas that I've read, so if you are just starting to delve into BL webtoons, please read this first! you will not be disappointed
with that being said, I love Neil, so much.... you don't even know. lol. He's so precious, literally like an actual cinnamon roll. LOL. i'm exposing myself ...so i'll leave it at that, i’m also wondering why his name is neil instead of nathan or nate...? lol.
2) Here U Are
Tumblr media
"Orientation of  the newcomers is a task for YuYang, and he ends up helping the unsociable and towering LiHuan, the kind of person that does everything to be disliked. But after better knowing each other, he discovers that the giant isn’t that bad of a person at all...”
I really wish I could find better summaries, lol. but it's to the point without giving away too much so i'll take it. This is one of the most popular series and I can totally see why after reading it, this story has every possible human aspect and relationship building  between the two main leads, I actually teared in some parts of this manhwa and I've never done that before! such a good story and plot line, if I were to pick any series in a web toon to be animated then I would choose this series hands down. There's also sub plots between different characters as well and how they deal with their interpersonal relationships and relationships between the two main leads, I love it! This is everything I want in a story, so please check this one out
also yuyang looks a lot like miyuki Kazuya from Daiya no ace and that just made me drawn to him.I really liked his personality and in the manhwa he has girls and guys in love with him and dude...I get it.
3) BJ Alex
Tumblr media
"Every night at 10, Dong-gyun locks himself up in his room, grabs a box of tissues, and watches a live cam boy show hosted by Alex, a BJ (broadcast jockey). Timid Dong-gyun admires not only Alex’s ripped body, but his candor in sharing his sexual experiences with viewers. One night, Dong-gyun downs too many drinks at a school networking event and passes out. When he wakes up, he’s in bed staring up at a shirtless hunk. A hunk who looks an awful lot like...Alex.”
so um...this is more yaoi than shounen ai cause of all the graphic scenes in the manhwa, if you are veteran you may have already read this one cause its really popular. It also has a lot of comedic elements to it too so it's not too serious, but the relationship developed between the two characters later on is really sweet despite the infinite amount of sex scenes. Not much else to say about this story, it's easy to follow and the only abuse in here is the emotional kind
I'm not really entirely sure how i felt about it in the beginning but the end is really good
4) No way, vampires don't exist
Tumblr media
"Four college housemates — Juwon, Eunho, Seongjae, and Gyumin — are in desperate need of a fifth person to fill a vacant room in their place. But their main concern isn’t about paying rent: they’re ravenous vampires, dying to sink their teeth into a fresh, live human! So they can’t believe their luck when Dongha, who grew up isolated from society, eagerly moves in with no idea of what awaits him. To the vampires’ dismay, however, Dongha doesn’t weigh enough for them to suck his blood! As they shower their unsuspecting new housemate with food and attention to fatten him up, have they gotten too attached to their would-be prey? And is there more to sweet, naive Dongha than meets the hungry vampires’ eyes?”
I have to preface by saying that ever since my twilight phase, I didn't consume anything that had to do with vampires for a very long time, for obvious reasons, but this one I just came across after reading path to you and thought I would at least check it out. It started off really comedic and I was like...what am i reading?  but it gets really light hearted and wholesome later on in the story. What I like about this is the character juwon, If you look at him he's that type of character that would look like the stoic a-hole of the story and those characters never appeal to me. But turns out he's the sweetest person most decent person of this story, it makes you want to route for him  and another thing I like about this story is that it looks like a harem but you can tell that there’s only one person the main character doungha treats differently from the rest and how the two are compatible with one another.  in these kind of stories, it’s always treated as every character is a possible route that leads to their own story but in here....there's only one...let's be real. This is one that is an odd ball cause it's technically completed but the translations are not...so i had to read the rest in korean, which makes it a good practice for me since i'm learning korean at the moment, it’s a good exercise...lol
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                             Anime/ Drama
  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not going to lie this department is lacking...lol. I have only been watching Heavens official blessing as mentioned in the last journal
but I have just found out that there is a remake of Shaman king in the making....and my little girl heart is screaming cause I loved shaman king when i was younger...so I can't wait for that
as for dramas, I've tried watching Start Up but I didn't like it so I dropped it, I might try watching crash landing on you since my best friend was obsessed with it, I watched a little of it but I left it since I was busy so i may get back to watching it from the beginning
-------------------------------------------------------------------
                             Music
--------------------------------------------------------------------
i'll put together a play list for you when you read these manga/manhwa...lol. cause that's what i've been doing

------------------------------------------------------------------------
