So-Fi Good Wishes, 11-16-2023 Mixed Media on watercolor paper, 11" x 14"

For this illustrations I used a Kura Toga mechanical pencil and a Prismacolor Artgum eraser for the sketch. Watercolor paints were then added from the Marie's watercolor pan set. The colors used were, Sap Green, Viridian Green, Medium Yellow, Purple Red & Cobalt Blue. Once the watercolors dried, I erased what sketch lines I could and then added in some Derwent colored pencils in Scarlet Lake, Magenta, Red Violet Lake, Imperial Purple, Oriental Blue, Bottle Green & Olive Green. In some areas I reduced color by erasing and blending with my fingers.

After I painted the butterfly fairy - if you haven't seen that one, it's the post right before this one :P - I really felt like I wanted to spend more time with those beautiful colors and shapes that the wings carried. It's very rare for me to be so attracted to such opaque and solid abstract shapes, usually I prefer working loose but with as much contrast as possible as my beginner arms can carry. Sometimes I do wonder if I'm not missing on an opportunity to create patterns and/or play with watercolor more freely, but then I watch the pigment disperse in water and suddenly all my desire to work with clean cut shapes dissipates and I fall back in love with the magic of watercolor. I do imagine myself trying less transparent mediums in the future, things like gouache or pastels really draw me in, but for the moment I want to continue with this medium. Partly because I want to see how far along I can make it, partly because another medium means another small financial investment which is not something I am willing to go for at the moment. Anyway, these were my thoughts as I was working on this piece. Zcott Zpectre VS. the Great Kong-Zilla: This is my new original characters illustration of my two original characters fighting each other. About three years ago, I created my original character: Scott Spring with his long blue hairstyle that looks like a mix of super saiyan spiky hair tops with long flowing Fabio like hair that’s wind blowy for those wavy affects. But now after a whole year since the quarterly art shift schedule started to happen at my ECF workplace every three months since last October, I finally got back into doing my independent SFW artwork I’ve enjoyed doing at ECF for six years since I graduated high school: doing pencil and inked artwork with watercolor paint. Because doing pencil and inked art with watercolors has been my favorite to make and post on social medias with art communities for years since I’ve been posting my pencil and inked watercolor artwork on Deviant Art, Tumblr, Instagram, and sometimes on YouTube (which I’ve been a registered YouTuber for over 9 years since late 2010 of course), and now after three years I finally reveal Scott Springs’ superhero alter ego: Zcott Zpectre half wraith and half human, a cross parody/fan character of Danny Phantom and Raziel the Vampire-Wraith from the Soul Reaver games of the Legacy of Kain franchise. So-Fi Tulip Painting 3, 11-17-2023 Mixed Media on Watercolor Paper, 11" x 14" Watercolor Paint & Colored Pencils

This is another watercolor painting enhanced with colored pencils, or perhaps a colored pencil drawing enhance with watercolor paints? Does it depend on the order the medium is applied to the canvas?Does it matter at all? At any rate, this time I used the Derwent colored pencils before adding the Marie's watercolors.

The supply list. Kura Toga mechanical pencil and a Prismacolor Artgum eraser for the sketching. Watercolor paints - Marie's watercolor pan set. The colors used were, Chromium Oxide Green, Medium Yellow, Purple Red & Cobalt Blue. Derwent colored pencils in Magenta,  Imperial Purple, Delft Blue & Bottle Green & Olive Green. 

On a side note, I am finding myself enjoying using pan paints a bit more. I guess it's since I'm making smaller simple paintings it's not so much of a bother and it does save space since the mixing palette is a part of the kit.
