Lady continued floating away, the clear sighted boy still following after her. She only reached to a few feet before the Steam Creator let loose another sigh and turned back around to face the inquisitive child.

“Surely, someone is taking care of you,” She spoke to him, her tone of voice still hard and icy then how it normally is. “Your… (What is that word?) Parents? Where are they?”

The boy’s face melted to one of utter misery, washing over him and slumping down onto his shoulders. “I… I don’t have parents…. Not anymore…”

Hearing this made Lady drop her cold expression and closed off body language. She looked at the little human with clear shock in her eyes. The Creator didn’t really consider herself a parent, since she always sent the steam spirits souls down to Earth the moment they’re created (except for one special little soul), but she knew that parents seems to mean some among humans.

Lady was about to open her mouth to ask what happened to them, but the sad young boy beat her to it. “Someone set my old house on fire and… they did make it…” He wiped away the tears and snot away from his face. “I don’t have anyone else to care for me… expect my friend, Tasha.”

“Oh…” The Creator extended her hand out to the boy, only to hesitate and bring it back. “I…I”m so sorry that happened to you, little human…” It was no lie. She truly was sad for the poor boy loosing his parents in such a way, like how most of her Steam Spirits are being scrapped and melted down.

But… she still wasn’t sure whether to trust the young boy and take him with her. “Regardless, my answer is still no. I understand how hard it is to lose someone so precious to you forever, but I still can’t take you with me to find my other half on this strange dimension.” A scoff left her lips. “Why would I even trust you? Considering how your kind treats my creations.”

The boy’s cheeks puffed out in indignation. “You can’t blame me for being one of them and I can see you so that must mean I’m different!” He grumbled, trying to keep up with the magical lady, floating a few feet of the ground and away. “And besides, you don’t even know where he is or anything about my world. Wait up!” He started running after her. “I can help you! Let me help you find your husband!”

Lady was about to yell back that Diesel 10 is not her husband (Humans and their weird labels for everything, she’ll never understand it), but started to really consider the boy’s words. He had some points in his attempt at trying to convince her; Lady didn’t know much about the human dimension, she had no way of knowing where Ten has fallen after that shadowy monster attacked them. and this incredibly annoying and stubborn child has been living on this world for his entire life, so he must know how to get around this horrid place and survive.

And he may also have some potential in the mystical arts considering he’s able to see her. Maybe one day even as her successor when he reaches the end of his lifespan, but we’ll see how that goes.

The Gold dust creator let out one final sigh, brushing some of her bangs out of the way and turns back to the human child.

“Okay, fine.”

He looked up at the mysterious lady, eyes filled with surprise and disbelief. “Really? I can go with you?”

Lady’s face turn a slight shade of stubborn pink. “Yes. I do need help to finding my other half on this dimension, you’re the only one who can perceive me and…” Her features soften, but only a short amount. “I don’t understand how human families work but no one should be leaving you all alone if your parents are gone. So I guess you are better off guiding me.” With that display of swallowed pride, she held her hand out to the boy.

Sparkles appeared in his eyes, running up to her and taking the hand. The two started walking towards the Mountain range where Muffle Mountain is situated.

“Well then young soul, enlightened me,” Lady spoke to her new guide. “What’s your name?”

“I’m Burnett. Burnett Stone.” The young boy introduced himself with the largest smile on his face. “What’s yours?”

“My name is Lady.”

Hey, wanna hear some unnecessary thoughts about Lemon from someone who’s watched Thomas?

Lemon mentions that the Momomon anime airs every Thursday at 9 AM after Thomas airs. But what specific Thomas show and season? I wonder. The short answer? Well, my closest guess is probably Thomas and Friends: Big World Big Adventures (aka “BWBA”) which is the 22nd - 24th seasons of Thomas. But more specifically, it may have been in its 23rd season airing in Japan during 2020.

From what I gather from the film’s adaptation of Lemon, he strikes me as someone who was a fan of the classic series of the model era (early season stuff, series 1-5) and grew up with it.  The CGI era however is complex with its history and he seems more of an on-and-off watcher of it, he still appreciates the Thomas series even if he doesn’t watch the newer series as much as he did as he was younger (and BWBA doesn’t have the same caliber and direction as the previous Thomas series)

In the novel, it’s very clear that Lemon has watched up until s7 of Thomas, which was in its model era in the 2000s. 

I think it tracks because even if it’s the CGI series, which is more modern and has a LOT of differences, I think Lemon would still be interested in watching it to some extent even if the newer stuff doesn’t hit as hard as the classic series he watched.

The long answer? If you’re a fuckin nerd and want to read I can indulge you.

A lot of this is just purely from my observation and my own take (and this is just silly so I really hope you know that).

Bullet Train started its production in October of 2020 - which I’m going to assume is when and where the movie takes place in because the majority was shot during that time - and incidentally, that same month Mattel had announced that Thomas was getting a brand new reboot called All Engines Go, which is a 2D animated production.

Thomas has a few distinctive mediums on television and it’s divided into the model series, CGI series and AEG, which is its own thing. Lemon obviously is shown to have grown up watching Thomas so he’s more versed in the model series and its characters.

Fun fact: In the novel, he mentions a few more characters who appear not only in early seasons but also season 7.

A Lil AEG Ramble

So I started watching All Engines Go the other day - both out of curiosity and boredom - and like, it’s fine? It’s nothing special and there’s always going to be that feeling of ‘This is what they replaced the og series with?’ but I don’t think it’s as bad as everybody says it is. That being said, it’s not great either.

Like, I think the main thing that stops it from being like HiT era quality (Which doesn’t sound much better now that I think about it) is stuff like the wheel hands and the jumping off the rails.

Personally, I can deal with there being actual child, teen (Is Ashima a teenager? That’s what I’ve been hearing), and adult engines. It raises a lot of weird questions, but I can deal with it. I can deal with the basic ass season nine plots. But the noodle axles and shit is a bit much.

And I’m not sure where I stand on the show as a whole? Cos I think the character designs are cute. Most of them, at least. Some of the music makes me weirdly nostalgic for 2000′s era Nick Jr. for some reason? And I think some of the episodes could fit in the original series with some tweaking (A Thomas Promise, A Quiet Delivery, and Kana Goes Slow all come to mind.). And I think I’d be fine and not care either way if it was running alongside the original series.

But it isn’t.

If Mattel had kept doing the original show, as BWBA or just normal Thomas, and marketed AEG as a side series geared towards an even younger audience, sort of like how Hasbro had Trasformers: Prime and Transformers: Rescue Bots, that would have been fine. Fans of the old series would have been happy and new fans could have a good jumping on point. But they canned the old show (I think because of low toy sales and lower views? Don’t quote me on that) and replaced it with All Engines Go.

I don’t know, dude. Like, I know there are people young and old who really enjoy All Engines Go, and that’s fine. I like stuff like Misty Island Rescue and season fifteen. I’m the absolute last person to give other people grief for what they like. But me personally? I’m probably gonna finish season one and the movie, maybe watch a couple Bruno and Ashima episodes, and be done with it.

What do you think of Edward?

i like to think i like all the classic cast equally

but the way he is my most commonly-used tag after only 'ttte' 'ttte art' and 'the railway series' continues to belie that narrative

he is literally sunshine and i am gonna circle that bottom right square despite that i am fully aware, even if no one else is, that he is a passive-aggressive lil wuss with a terrific sense of self-promotion. i don't care. edward is great and he deserves to manipulate the narrative. as a treat.

8/11: Great Western Clashing Cousins

Duck: There are two ways of doing things, cousin. The Great Western way-

Oliver: And the wrong way. I know cuz. I know. (Dear Lady, those Mainland monsters from Paddington really broke Duck.)

Both Duck and Oliver have a somewhat vitriolic cousin relationship with each other. They will always look out for the other’s back and be there when needed in support or comfort, but are two very different people. Oliver is more or less like the “Anti” Duck; other than just wearing the logo on his sleeve or as a tattoo on his bare arm, he wants nothing to do with his heritage or the Great Western due to more or less suffering 30 years of torment and trauma brought on by his siblings while Duck on the other hand, despite going through some bullying due to being a late elemental bloomer due to his engine’s waddling and other stuff he won’t admit to anyone else, still holds pride for his Great Western Heritage and the “Great Western Way”. Oliver also dresses rather rebelliously after getting poofed and changing his form from his stuffy clothes and even grows and ties his hair up (which Duck hates) while his cousin still keeps his Great Western vest.

Duck is also sometimes annoyed by his cousin’s rather blasé, somewhat disinterested and bored attitude, along with his constant dismissal of any Great Western and frequently running off to go spend time with Thomas, leading to his cousin getting into trouble with the other Electric Spirit and Oliver actually enjoying it, despite having to keep his boyfriend from instigating anymore unneeded chaos and anarchy. Also while Duck is somewhat cool with his cousin having Thomas as a boyfriend, he also doesn’t quite approve at the same time even after both of them made up ever since the events of “The Thomas Way”. This is normally because of Thomas constantly being a magnet for trouble and chaos, believing him to be a bad influence on his cousin, who is constantly bored on the Little Western and will seize any chance at joining up with the blue haired Spirit, even doing some crazy things on his own or eating animal food which makes both Duck and the Scottish Twins incredibly exasperated and constantly tells the Metal Spirit to stop eating.

What if I made polls with TTTE characters that aren't heavily represented in the fandom or aren't heavily associated with the brand like the titular crew just to see how many people know them. Like I'm sure they're decently known but still. If you ask a random person on the street to name a character from Thomas and Friends their answer is gonna be smthn like Thomas, or Percy, or perhaps Gordon. NOBODY is gonna name off someone like Rebecca or Philip.

Okay it's my first attempt at a ttte oc so I'd like to explain the design process and what went into her design :>

Since Atta and Percy are friends I wanted her to complement him so I made her a cool, almost mint green and royal blue to his bright green and red. The cooler palette fits her soft personality & looks pleasing to me. I also made her skin and lips darker since in my lore she is blackcoded and tbh, it looks so good with her livery.

The nameplate contrasts the green and adds a bit of elegance. It also foreshadows her encounter with Lady. Her class basis is the ALCO S-Class. I kept the blue because it works really well with her green paint and adds to her elegance. All I did was darkened it with linear burn. Her freckles represent the 12 NWR engines.

I also made a mockup of Atta working on the magic railroad. It's not great but it gets the point across. As for her face I combined Flora the tram. and Nia. Doing small alterations and painting to make sure she looks different and not just have Nia's face slapped on and calling it a day.

Alright time for story: it pisses me OFF how the diesels were the oppressed class but villainized for fighting back/wanting a better workshop. And of the good diesels Salty and Mavis weren't even main characters. Like the diesels are implied to be too weakwilled to question D10 (who gets woobified ew) and it felt like it justified the Island's poor treatment of them. And the plot is supposed to be about the Diesels but they get overshadowed by the new steam engines. Cuz Steam Good Diesel BAD apparently 😒 So I thought it makes sense for one of the new diesels engine to be in the good guys side, who isn't a prop nor a lackey of Diesel 10. So that's how Atta came to be.

The story I have is Atta is a shy awkward diesel who befriends Percy, she wants to tell Sir Haty about the Dieselworks but doubts herself and is afraid of Diesel 10. When Percy is in danger Atta sets aside her fears to do what's right eventually she gets a spot on the S&R team. She's also a foil for D10: whereas he relies on aggression and brute force she relies on soeed and agility. And where Diesel 10 only cares about his selfish ambitions & threatens his lackeys, Atta genuinely cares for diesels. Her radical kindness saves the day!

Overall I had so much fun designing her. Is it perfect? No. And it doesn't need to be.
