Humanitarian aid programmes need to be even more focused on efforts to combat the rise in sexual and gender-based violence (GBV) in countries affected by crises, Natalia Kanem, executive director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), told Euractiv. The risk of GBV sharply increases when conflict breaks out. Both for women in the affected area and those who become displaced. Unfortunately, the amount of GBV is also becoming increasingly prevalent in countries affected by crises, where the UNFPA is present, said Kanem. In the Democratic Republic of Congo’s eastern region, which is once again in the midst of armed conflict, the rise is particularly alarming, she warns. “We’re encouraging people to report and making it easier for them, but the volume of sexual violence is increasing,”  said Kanem, emphasising that they do not know the true number of GBV victims, because of fear of reporting due to stigmatization. Despite this, according to the UNFPA, GBV is one of the least funded areas in aid programmes.

Public school window blocked by ad.

Took 3 months ago, Mc. Gregor public elementary school, Toronto, Ontario. I know the image is slanted, I took this quickly while on my walk.

To be clear: Mc. Gregor has always been an underfunded, overpopulated school. Classes had to be merged into one classroom, and the amount of students in the school got so bad they had to full the playground with temporary buildings while my sister was attending. I'm 70% sure that this is just a supply closet window. But it's still depressing they have to put dental ads up for funding.

It is the only federally funded healing centre east of Manitoba and is one of six in the country that is Indigenous-run. How do the researchers react to the clan cats leaving the lake for a time?

You mean the little patrols they send out?

They aren't aware of them, EXCEPT for the Beaver Expedition that Dovepaw was on. They found out about that one because they got a phone call from the team in charge of the beaver introduction.

It was NERVE WRACKING. Both teams were terrified the other would injure their subjects. They were horrified when the cats dug out the top of the dam and pulled the squealing baby beavers out, thinking this was going to end BADLY, but practically cried in relief and excitement when the Clan cats baited the parents towards the lake.

(I like to imagine someone on the beaver team ended up hitting it off with someone on the Clan cat team. The wedding cake was cats and beavers.)

But generally? They don't know about expeditions. Sometimes they catch them leaving, but don't have the funding to chase them down.

Clan cats are also not under constant surveillance. Very important to understand this. Clan cats will attack anything that upsets them and good cameras are expensive; they snuck one into the ThunderClan Camp once in like 2009, and Firestar dug it up at the stake and dropped it down the WindClan border ravine because it was freaking his warriors out.

So the team has to be careful, not install too many, and hide the ones they do have. They don't want the cats to move again.
