TOA Canon [Underground Citizen of Abyss/Ashen Wolves Professor at the Officers Academy]
FATES [Post Hidden Truths, Route Unspecified]
Post Hidden Truths, revived the power of his dragon half. He is mentally unstable due to the influence of King Anankos, and does not remember any of the time between his death and arriving at Garreg Mach. He knows he died, and then he woke up at the entrance to Abyss. Hence he decides to remain there for now, he does not know himself anymore and does not wish to accidentally hurt anyone with what he does not know. He is confused for the most part, but he knows that he has done awful things in the past. Atonement is not an easy path, but... is there not to be something said for trying?
BACKGROUND PAGE | INTERVIEW | Please kindly do not use small text! (post)
He is not aware of the events of any of the paths, returned to rest with the body as an empty husk of a soul. It doesn't really matter which route it is, since the details are handwaved anyway lol.
He will behave in much the same way as he does in Heirs of Fate, confused and slightly erratic. His memories are a tangling mess, so he isn't exactly sure what is what anymore.
He has only ever loved two people, Cadros and Mikoto. Though he will never acknowledge his love of Cadros, as he feels as though he betrayed him during his accidental death at his hand. Which, ironic that he fell in love with Mikoto, as she is a descendant of Cadros.
He likes animals, as they will not judge him as humans will. His favourite animals are turtles, he feels a bit of kinship to them, given that dragons are technically reptiles as well.
He loves his children very much, though his knowledge of them is limited due to dying soon after learning Lilith was his daughter and because he sent Corrin away with his mother when she was still a baby. But he does still love them dearly. He wishes to learn more of Corrin (and Lilith too of course, but knows Lilith will be much more comfortable with him) but fears that they might be scared of him.
Because of his benevolence, and a deep love for the world and everyone in it, he has a tendency to somewhat take any students without parents/who seem lonely under his wing, treating them as if they were his own children.
He does not think of himself as ever being a king. Valla’s only true kings were Cadros and his family line, he does not deserve that title.
Chronic apologizer, even for things that he was not responsible for. (Not actual fates events, more like. If someone else knocks something over in his presence, he'll act like he's the one who needs to apologize.)
He does not retain any of his draconic powers, at least for the most part. And he doesn’t mind that all that much. He is perfectly content with remaining as his human avatar. Things are better this way, they feel better this way.
His appearance either looks something like this or this. As much as I like the look of normal Anankos, I think he deserved to be a little fucked up even in his human form. There has to be a reason why he hides under his cloak all time, after all.
He does not know of Kana or any other children that Corrin may have.

Hello, I love your AU, it's so well thought out and expands so much on Fates (It deserved better, really). But can I ask what the former King & Queen of Valla looked like? Galenos & Mira? Like did Arete/Eirene take after both of them, like a mix of hair and eyes? Or did both of them just take after one of each parent?
Thanks for the love!
I imagine Galenos would be the one with pale blue hair and Mira would have black hair, so it’s easy to see who inherited whose hair colors. They were all born with red eyes that turn gold if they take the oath to become a priest or priestess in service to the Father Dragon Anankos.
Since their daughters had to have developed a love for music and dance from somewhere, the royal couple were also masters and patrons of dance and song. They probably met and wooed each other in some fancy swords and fans dance at a festival.
Now I’m imagining Mikoto telling Ikona and Sumeragi about Vallite courtship customs and the two of them trying their damned hardest to perform a dance for her to make her feel more at home in Hoshido...

after the time loop -- as suggested by @obsidiantias!
hoo boy.
araceli has no idea what she wants to do with her life once she finally has a choice. honestly, she didn’t think she’d get this far to begin with.
going under a cut for length! warnings for mentions of suicidal ideation, i guess?
araceli simply tells him that it’s okay. that he doesn’t need to be afraid. that he can rest now. that he doesn’t need to hate anyone or curse the world anymore. he is not alone. she is here with him. it’s okay. he’ll get to be with mother again soon, and all will be well.
to those beyond the barrier who can hear her, it sounds like the princess is being incredibly kind to the deranged dragon in his final moments; that she’s attempting to soothe him so that his final moments are ones of peace. they’re right, but what they don’t know is that araceli has every intention of dying with the dragon. she is his daughter, after all. someday, the madness that ripped his formidable mind to shreds will grip her, and all will be lost. it cannot be allowed to happen. ( and to the young woman’s tortured mind, this is what she deserves for all the blood on her hands. )
when anankos’ heart falls he throws everything he has into one desperate final attack and manages to cut araceli deeply, drawing blood. she staggers her way to a rather large bit of debris and collapses behind it, content to let herself pass away unnoticed as the group celebrates their victory. the cycle is broken. the bond between nohr and hoshido can grow, and their enmity is a thing of the past. aqua is still alive and well, and free to pursue whatever life she wants without fear of her song stealing her life away.
araceli is happy with this, she thinks. this is a good note to go out on. they’ll forget her. they’ll heal. it’ll be for the better.
unfortunately for araceli, life doesn’t work like that. someone eventually notices she is missing from the crowd after the barrier dissipates, and goes searching. she is found and brought back to camp and nursed back to health. araceli is confused by this, but lets them assume she was simply hurt in the battle.
what comes next depends on many factors, honestly.
depending on whom i’m writing with, aqua will ascend the throne of valla as it is her birthright; the two women are cousins, but it was aqua’s mother arete that was the queen. araceli spends her days lost and listless now that the sole thing that has defined her life for the past three hundred years has been stripped away from her. she doesn’t know how to approach either family, her frustration and outbursts having placed a lot of distance between them for the most part. i mean, she’s all but cut xander off entirely at this point, and to turn around and try to patch things up is... intimidating, especially when she’d declared that she doesn’t care if any of them hate her anymore.
she wants to leave, honestly. she wants to vanish through the dragon’s gate and venture into parts unknown to be eventually forgotten by all in fateslandia who know her. the sole thing that keeps her from leaving is aqua and a burning desire to both make her happy and to atone for all the suffering she has needlessly been put through.
if aqua is not approached, the role of queen goes to araceli. she does not want to be queen of a dead land, thinking it better to let valla die since there is so little left, but she knows the alternative is that aqua must do it. aqua, who suffered far worse that she had. aqua, who didn’t complain once through every hardship, every death she suffered because of araceli’s mistakes and eventual apathy. aqua who is finally free to live whatever life she pleases.
aqua must have that freedom, she decides, and reluctantly agrees to take the throne. it’s what’s expected of her, and if she’s to live, she must do what will keep the peace. she will bend to the two kingdom’s whims, as she has for the past three hundred years. what she wants does not matter. all that matters is that peace is maintained between xander and ryouma, and if she must be the eternal mediator, so be it.
( if araceli is in a relationship with laslow, odin, or selena, they will convince her to return to ylisse with them rather than stay in fateslandia and be miserable. after some hesitation she will accept the invitation and leave fateslandia altogether. while it is a difficult and long process, araceli will begin to heal. it will take time, but she will live a very happy and fulfilling life in ylisse. )
in the days approaching one of the vallite princesses’ coronation, one of many strange occurrences may happen.
in the case of araceli’s elibe verse, she hears stories of strange activity at the dragon’s gate and offers to investigate. she winds up dragged into the dread isle in place of the fire dragon nergal pulls through elibe’s gate and rescued by the lord trio’s army. wanting to thank them for their help, she will help them stop nergal. having fallen utterly in love with elibe, she decides to stay and begin a new life-- returning home only to apologize and explain the situation. depending on the partner, she will either settle in arcadia or marry eliwood, becoming roy’s mother. depending on the path in life taken, she will either join roy’s army alongside igrene twenty years later or be busy covering for eliwood while he is ill. as with the awakening trio, it is a difficult path, but the new faces and the new surroundings allow her to finally heal from her experiences.
in the case of a heroes verse, araceli is either summoned by askr’s summoner or forced into an emblian contract. ( and if the latter, she will pull a xander and decide to stay in embla even when it is broken, for veronica’s sake. ) as with most ‘new land’ endings, the change of scenery and meeting new people is good for her! honestly this could go so many different ways depending on who she meets, but she may ultimately elect to stay in zenith and start over there.
depending on if a certain knight decides he wants to travel again and leave fateslandia behind now that the conflict is over and done with, she may also be talked into joining him. ;)
...so as you can see, leaving the land that inflicted so much trauma upon her behind is ultimately the best case scenario for araceli. while she’s perfectly capable of healing and leading a fulfilling life in fateslandia, it takes much longer for her to recover as she has so many expectations placed upon her -- including ones by herself -- and duties and an almost obsessive need to atone for her ‘sins’ somehow and make aqua happy. what she needs is to do something selfish, but she doesn’t believe she deserves it; the people around her do, of course, but not her.
this poem from higurashi no naku koro ni’s matsuribayashi-hen sums it up best:
everyone has a right to pursue a happy life.
the difficult part is to be given that right.
everyone has a right to pursue a happy life.
the difficult part is to fulfill that right.
i too have a right to pursue a happy life.
the difficult part is to work out a compromise for that right.
.                                                                                -- frederica bernkastel
regardless of path chosen, be it queen or newlywed newcomer or wandering swordswoman, araceli will at one point cut her hair to about a bob’s length. she decides this on a whim one day, deciding to let her hair being cut end this chapter of her life. she will grow it out again over time, but this decision, this very permanent decision, is very important to her. it’s making a statement that she really, truly is putting the past behind her, no matter where she may be in her life.

I’m running on 4 hours of sleep and coffee; let’s make a controversial post! Today’s topic: Fates/Awakening ships I hate!  :D
Preface: I’m not hating on anyone who ships these.  I’m also not saying you can’t/shouldn’t ship these.  I’m merely voicing why I dislike them, because I usually keep it all to myself and just feel like screaming into the void today.  So all of this is just my opinion, and you don’t have to take it seriously, okay? C:  Also, I don’t want to have to type “to me” after every opinion, so just take it as implied.
Now then, let’s begin.
Lonliss/Lon’qu-Lissa
Easily my biggest dislike on the list.  I will never, ever, ever understand why this is Owain’s most popular parentage.  Their supports weren’t all that great, and they are just so different from each other in ways that I think they would just clash.  I’ve seen people who ship it say, “He would be so supportive of Owain’s banter!  He would encourage his playfulness!”  And all I can think is, “Are we thinking of the same Lon’qu?  The one who’s stoic, doesn’t talk much, is very serious and grumpy?  That Lon’qu?”  He’s the token tsundere, sure, but I really don’t see him accepting Owain; I actually see the opposite.  I feel like Lissa and Owain’s upbeat personalities would grate on his nerves, to the point he’d find them both unbearably embarrassing.  Lissa and Lon’qu also just have MUCH BETTER ships/supports with other characters, and tbh, they both deserve better.  Lissa and Owain deserve someone who gels with their sunshine energy, and Lon’qu deserves a more reserved partner.  Of all Owain’s dad ships, Lonliss is the only one I truly cannot, “see,” and no explanation has made me able to, “see,” it as they both are in canon, and probably never will, tbh.  Every other Lissa ship, I can find some sort of merit, even if I don’t ship it, but when I look at Lonliss, there is just none.  No chemistry, no commonality, no anything that makes them a good couple.  Not in canon, anyway.  I’ve heard a ton of headcanons for it (I’m an Owain stan and this is quite literally his most popular dad, it’s very common), and fanon is fine and dandy, but when it bends canon too much, it just doesn’t sit well with me, and Lon’qu being any sort of okay with Lissa and Owain just bends canon too much, to me.  They’re too hyper, he’s too reserved.  As a final thought, I’m admittedly not a fan of any ship that takes Lissa and Owain away from Ylisstol, and Lon’qu (along with Donnel) does.  Their ending states they live in Ferox, and I just don’t like that.  I like Owain growing up alongside Lucina.  Also, Cynthia and probably Morgan would be in Ylisstol, and Owain canon has the Justice Cabal with them in his youth, so that’s kind of contradictory if he’s born and raised in Ferox.  (I also personally headcanon both Lissa and Owain hating the cold, tbh.  Odin has a line about hating the cold in Anna’s DLC in Fates, and I think Lissa mentions hating snow at some point, too, though I could be wrong.)
Owainigo/Laslodin/Owain-Brady
Grouping these together because I’m equally meh on both.  I can definitely see them, but I don’t like them.  Owain and Inigo do become bros, but I kind of feel like they would still squabble like petty children like their Awakening supports.  It’s more in a brotherly way, though; they start off teasing each other and end up in a slap-hands fight.  I like them as a friendship, just not a romantic ship.
Owain/Brady I have more trouble seeing because their only commonality is their mothers, and their supports make them seem like casual friends at best.  I feel like their mothers is a big part of why they’re shipped, tbh, which is just kind of :T for me.  I can see them if I squint, but it’s not a ship I care for.
The saddest thing is, look up anything spicy for Owain, you’re going to find one of these two in it.  Either these two or...
Odiniles/Leodin/Leotrio Threesome
Oh boy, here we go, SakuMo disliking another popular pairing(s).  Odin and Niles canonically bicker.  Like, they are nasty to each other.  Odin says as much in their A rank.  He says they should try to get along more, but I’m not really sure how well that would turn out.  To be honest, the only thing they really have in common is their loyalty to Leo.  Lacking that, they’re two wildly different people.  I’m not saying that different people can’t work as a couple--it happens all the time--but if you lack at least some common ground, it makes it really hard for a relationship to work.  Devotion to your master isn’t really much common ground.  Given their canon history, dramatically different personalities, and lack of common interests, I just don’t see them being compatible.  Every Odiniles fic I’ve ever read had Niles uncharacteristically understanding of Odin, to the point it didn’t even feel like Niles at all/he was very OOC.  One again, fanon is fine--you do you!--but bending canon too much and/or in ways that don’t make sense to the character is just not my scene.
Leodin is one that I can kind of see, definitely more than Odiniles, which in no way works in my head, but I’m just not a fan of it, generally.  My dislike isn’t as strong as with Odiniles, but it’s still there.  And I’ll just say that I am not into poly, don’t like OT3s, threesomes, etc., so that should sum up my feelings on the Leotrio as an OT3.
Odilise, Lazura, Selbaki, a.k.a. “The Oedipus Complex Ships”
Don’t make the Trio marry their moms, fam.  Odilise is the most egregious one, tbh, because Elise is so much like Lissa and it’s so, so creepy to ship her with Odin.  Never mind that canon Elise is supposed to be like...14-15 (I reject this canon and substitute my own hc of 18, but I digress), and though we don’t know how long the Trio is in Nohr before the start of Fates, we can assume anywhere from six months to a year or two considering they are well-established as retainers, so Odin is probably in his early 20s, at youngest maybe 20-21.  (Granted, using the canon ages makes a lot of ships suspect, especially with the younger characters, but I digress.)  I get that Elise is a good stat mom for Ophelia and gives the “canon” hair, but the ship itself is just problematic on a lot of fronts.  She’s basically his mom, their supports are playful but it def feels brotherly-sisterly (granted most of Elise’s supports do) and throws in the romance literally out of left field in the S rank, and they just look kind of suspect together, fam.  I have unfortunately in my travels across the internet for Owain content seen Odin/Elise porn, and the fact it makes me uncomfortable in a, “this looks really illegal,” way speaks volumes.  And again, yes, I know the same would be true for other ships with Elise, and it’s why there are few I actually like with her.  But Odin/Elise just in particular bothers me because like Lonliss, I see it the most, and it’s made me irrationally bitter toward it.  This one and Lonliss are my two, “hair-trigger rage,” ships.  I see either, I get really annoyed.  I don’t voice this, mind--I keep on scrolling and ignore the content--but it does make me grumpy, lol.  They’re the two I can honestly say I hate instead of just saying I dislike.
Selbaki is a bit lesser, but it basically makes Severa her own grandma, don’t do that. xD  Severa already has a complex with trying to be perfect like her mom, so making her feel the same not only for her husband but also her daughter is just cruel to her.  Give Severa a break, y’all.
Lazura is the least similar, admittedly, but it’s still in the same vein.  Performer marrying a performer.  Of the three, I can tolerate it the most, but it’s still not great for me.
Corrin/Any sibling, including Azura
Look, I get it.  Corrin is, by technicality, not blood-related to any of them, with the exception of Azura, who is their blood-related cousin.  H O W E V E R, just because they find out that they aren’t blood-related to the Nohr siblings doesn’t mean the familial bonds just go POOF.  The Nohr siblings would definitely not be like, “I guess we can bang Corrin now.”  If this were the case, adopted families would never “truly” bond because they aren’t related by blood.  Corrin growing up in Nohr means that they would most likely always see the Nohr siblings as family, and vice-versa.
Hoshido, on the other hand, is a bit trickier.  While it’s true they aren’t blood-related, I want to say Ryoma is the only one who knows?  Like, I think he’s the only one who brings it up in the S Support?  But lacking that, Corrin and the rest of the Hoshido siblings do think they’re blood-related.  Hidden Truths states that Corrin never learned the truth about their real father, nor that Lilith is their sister.  All 3 routes play out with the assumption that Sumeragi was Corrin’s father, and if it’s stated otherwise, it’s maybe only in the beginning as a throwaway line during the Mikoto section.  You could make a plausible argument that the Trio could tell Corrin the truth, since all 3 of them have heart-rank lines where they reveal their real names and that they’re from another world, but that’s leading into possible canon rather than actual canon (and is also why I hc it).  But for all intents and purposes, Corrin thinks they are blood-siblings with the Hoshido fam, so that would make them less likely to pursue them romantically.  And even if they knew, they still all all each other brother/sister.
Azurrin is the trickiest.  It’s only in Revelation that the connection between Arete, Azura’s mother, and Mikoto, Corrin’s mother, is made, afaicr, so in Birthright and Conquest, Corrin technically wouldn’t know they are cousins.  However, Azura would.  Azura always knew everything, because her mother told her about Valla and taught her the traditional song and such.  She most likely knew Mikoto was her aunt.  Even on the off chance she didn’t know, it would still be an awkward down the line thing when they find out they’re cousins.  I know Japan is more lenient on the whole cousin-marriage thing, but...don’t have Shigure and Kana coming out looking like the Habsburgs, please, I beg you, lol.
My rule of thumb: if two characters refer to each other as, “brother,” or, “sister,” at any point, don’t let them fuck.  xD
Kana/Any Romantic/Sexual Ship
Kana is a child.  Stop it.  Stop it right now.  They are a baby.  I’VE SEEN FICS, I KNOW IT EXISTS, YOU SICK FUCKS.  Even aged up feels a little awkward, but I can be a little bit more lenient on that.  I just never will.  Kana is asexual and aromantic in my eyes, lol.
That’s all I can really think of right now; coffee is wearing off, I need a nap, lol.  Once again, please don’t be offended if I dislike a ship you like!  We are all different!  I just wanted to throw this out there on the off chance I do requests again and someone wants one of these written, because I would respectfully decline.  I don’t mean these to be hateful, just sort of venting into the ether in a mildly-exhausted stupor.
Also, you can try to counter me on some of these, but tbh, a few of them, I am stubbornly never going to change my mind, so we’d just go round and round in a circular argument if you tried.  xD  I like what I like and don’t like what I don’t, lol.  I’m not typically a multi-shipper, either, so you’d probably be hard-pressed to get me to shift at all, lol.  I mean that in the most loving way possible, too.

(Ok I lied) One, yes, let Anankos be both emotional support for Takumi and emotional support for his niece Azura, because both are great. Two, Uncle Anankos is an excellent idea, and he would be happy to help small Azura. Three, all this talk about Anankos makes me kinda wish the Adrift units weren't from a dream world, but then again, Anankos has been mentioned crying from happiness enough for now. (And we don't need anyone confused by the fact that Mikoto had a relationship with a dragon.)
friend you are always welcome here with anankos things
1) Anankos deserves to have a growing family at this point.  He spent a long time with very few real connections: he cared for the Vallite people, but they revered him as a godly figure rather than caring for him as an entity with thoughts and feelings (which ended in the people turning on him when he began to degenerate and lose himself); he cared for the king of Valla, and then killed him in a blind rage as his degeneration worsened (something he probably still has some major guilt about); he cared for Mikoto and his children, enough to give his life for them, but had to send them away in an attempt to keep them safe.  His connections have always been limited, and he’s been alone for a long time – he deserves a chance to reconnect with his children, meet his grandchildren, connect with his niece, adopt a nephew, and overall just become part of the creche family.
2) I am so fascinated by the thought of Anankos getting that chance to connect with Azura?  Because it probably comes with some troubling feelings.  It’s his fault she lost her father – that blood is quite literally on his hands, since he killed the Vallite king before separating from his degenerating body.  He may not be responsible for what she endured in Nohr, but ultimately he was the reason she and her mother had to flee Valla.  She’s endured so much already at such a young age: the bullying, the cruelty, the neglect, the loss of both her parents…and he was, in part, responsible.  He would struggle with whether he should confess this or not: he wouldn’t want to conceal that truth from her, since it should be her choice whether she wants to interact with him…but he would, at least, start by telling her that he was friends with her father, sharing stories of the man she never had a chance to know in an attempt to help her connect with her lost family.
3) Seriously why were the Adrift units just dream units why couldn’t Mikoto at least be real let Anankos have his wife for real it might be interesting, though, if the Adrift units gradually become more like the actual people they’re based on as Azura gets to know the real ones better – so as Anankos shares stories of his wife with Azura, the Mikoto from her dreams adjusts to reflect this person that he so loved.  It would be so bittersweet, in ways, especially when she calls out to him by name, and he has a moment where he forgets that this Mikoto is nothing more than a dream…

Top 10 Badass Female Characters in Fire Emblem Fates (in my opinion)
10- Reina/Peri
Okay so the reason why there's two people in this slot is because they're literally the same archetype. They love blood and killing and violence and blah blah blah, BUT ALSO they have at least some levels of depth and complexity to their character to keep them from being boring one note death machines. Problem is Reina doesn't have any supports with anyone so you don't get to know much more about her, but she protected your mom. Peri protects your older brother. Anyone who keeps your family safe is definitely badass.
9- Kagero
Ah Kagero. You get captured all the freakin time but that's not your fault. You're still the best dread fighter hands down, and definitely my favorite ninja (Kaze is too fragile and Saizo is too slow and Soleil is unavailable to a path). Plus she's an artist and while she may not be the best painter she still loves it and enjoys her hobby. She's a loyal servant and an even more loyal friend, and would put her own life on the line to protect your brother.
8- Anna
Can't fault a girl for war profiteering. Strong independent woman don't need no man, been around the block for centuries and across kingdoms, crack shot with a bow, gold farmer, feisty redhead, runs circles around the L crew, I could go on. She's always on my team and is supported by MC for dem stats and the unity ability in pretty sure procs make a killing but idk. Regardless she's still gr9.
7- Arete
She gets killed like four times before finally going down, and that first time was fairly heroic honestly. Definitely one of the most important people in regards to lore.
6- Camilla
What list would be complete without the best sister??? No not because of her giant tiddies (awesome to look at they may be) or the giant ass window (also awesome to look at) or even the weird incest thing going on (I guess from a Japanese lens that's awesome too but eeehhh) but because she's actually a great combat unit especially if she spends a couple levels as a hero getting those skills. Axes AND magic AND an attack buff means she should always be out on the field. She may be insane and has a lust for blood rivaling Peri, but she's a good sister, a good ruler, and a good unit.
5- Soleil
Oh yes. FUCKING SUPERB YOU FUNKY LITTLE LESBIAN! She's a big glass cannon so I always make her a master ninja and god is she a good ninja. She never gives up even in the face of innumerable odds, she's got great stats all depending on who her mom is, she's SUPER FUCKING GAY FOR GIRLS, oh yeah and she's a teenager leading a band of mercenaries; how fucking cool is that?
4- Rinkah
Stomp on me like you stomp on enemies. Oni savages are like fighters with better stats and both blacksmiths and chieftains have some top notch skills and she's the only one in the game who can do that naturally. She's an adamantly staunch advocate for her people, and makes leaps and bounds of character development through her supports. She's also clearly the most visibly sculpted lady sans for maybe Effie and anyone packing that much solid muscle has got to be pretty fucking awesome.
3- Hinoka
Real talk tho Hinoka is the actual best sister slash mom. Proof? Setsuna and Azama are both still alive somehow. The providence that protects them from traps and getting choked to death has got to be the pegasus knight. She's the second best female offensive lance user in the game (excluding knight/cavalier/merchant/basara/etc who have different roles than pure adjacent physical lance-based dps), especially if she A+'s either Camilla or Setsuna and S's either Xander or Silas. She's got enough variety to her that I feel the Lucina seal would simply be wasted on her. My only complaint is that without reclassify she kinda sucks but hey, just buy a freakin heart seal.
2- Scarlet
VIVA LA REVOLUCION! Tragic you can only use her in one path. I romanced her in my very first playthrough to give stats to my Kana (and also because I knew it would be my only chance to really use her). She deserves so much better than to just be fridge stuffing to give Ryoma that manpain. Dammit Japan. At least she's got the coolest armor design.
HONORABLE MENTIONS TIME!
Azura: the fucking queen of Valla who carries the plot on her shoulders. literally the most important person in canon. deserves better.
Felicia: accidental badassery still counts, right? slap on a flame shuriken and watch heads roll.
Hana: best samurai. like lon'qu but actually with personality. rough and abrasive but has a heart of gold.
Beruka: cold blooded contract killer trying to learn how to feel. similar to Reina/Peri but she doesn't kill for fun, she kills to survive. she's just really good at it.
Lilith: f
Cassita: she bakes you cookies. SHE. BAKES. YOU. COOKIES. okay. when will your fave ever? except for camilla, she baked you cookies too, but camilla has crippling depression, mommy issues, a whole lotta weird borderline incest stuff going on (even though you're adopted so it's okay according to japan... oh, who am I kidding, I fucked leo to have dragon forrest and because FOLGERS COFFEE COMMERCIAL). anyway. cassita only knows that you're armed, dangerous, here to kill the king, and once knew her darling elise, but she shelters your entire fucking army and then BAKES. YOU. NICE HOT FRESH CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES. bless her big beautiful heart. you can be badass without kicking someone's ass.
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST
1- Oboro
fuck, man, she is just the best. best outfit, best stats, best combat ability, best class, and has a personality and hobbies and interests and likes and dislikes and flaws... I literally cried a little bit when I had to kill her in conquest. she is my favorite character in the whole game and she just kicks so much ass. I can't adequately put it into words, it's just... agh, she's great. 10/10

It wasn’t your fault. No, none of it was ever your fault, but they hated you anyway. When you were born, it was your mother that started screaming first, and the wails that threatened to burst your new, pink lungs were only echoes of her terror. No child deserves to be welcomed into the world surrounded by tangible disgust, the first words they hear those of regret, a curse spat towards the stark white hospital ceiling instead of a whispered prayer of thanks. As you grew, nothing changed. You knew the mask before you knew yourself, and the long days spent hunched over the piano in the basement taught you all you needed to know about the person you were to become. Symphony after symphony scribbled down on spare scraps of paper, giving yourself the education your mother kept you from, the echoes of nursemaid’s screams forever echoing in her ears and instilling in her a deep shame verging on terror: this was your childhood, your only companions the notes which filled your mind and spilled from trembling fingertips to stain the ivory of the piano a deep crimson. It was a passion, a love affair, something violent and endlessly grasping. It pulled the darkness from inside of you, nurtured and fed it, thrived on the hatred your mother showed you, turned it into a deep malice reflected back at the world you saw in the mirror. Soon the hatred and the music were all you had.
When you found yourself too old to live on stale bread and day old hate, the outside world showed you no pity, and certainly no love. It wasn’t until you found yourself on the crumbling doorstep of a woman whose bitterness rivaled your own that two old souls seemed to bond for the first time in your life. A somehow world-weary glint in the eyes of a man who had never seen the world farther than the tip of his own covered nose was reflected in Madalene’s eyes, and she gave you the chance you never thought you’d get. Music in exchange for food on your table and a place to lay your head at night. She told you to train her daughter, to make her little girl a star. She never said which one. So you chose Christine, chose her chestnut locks and her bright eyes and her round, pink cheeks. You would have been content with her and your music, replacing the hatred with something that felt like love when it danced on the tip of your tongue. But life had other plans for you, and so did Madalene. It’s where you find yourself now, the somewhat unwilling king of an empire built in the filth of Paris. Madalene says the theatre is only a front. She’ll never understand that the theatre is who you are, the organization is the mask you so loathe.

CHRISTINE DAAE
You’re children, both of you, your realities horribly distorted in such different ways. Where you see heartache and despair, she sees light and laughter and something else hidden just behind glossy lips that looks as sweet and soft as rosepetals. Maybe it's that you even each other out, or maybe the attraction lies in latching onto what you lack that the other has in abundance. As much as it terrifies you to admit, you feel as though you can't live without her anymore. Christine, as artificial as she is, makes you feel real and whole. If your lips could form the word love without curling and without bile rising in your throat, you think you would feel it for her. It’s a kind of codependency bound to end in disaster, but at least for the moment it feels safe.
GIGI DESTLER
Maybe Mama was right after all. Gigi has always been your antithesis, the perfection you've always sought was born clasped between her fingers. You remember her birth, remember standing at your mother's side in the hospital and reaching for Gigi, for her pink bright newness, and being slapped away with quick hands and a harsh tone. You had only wanted to hold her. The same part of you that hoped her light might spark in you and take hold and snuff out your darkness was also perpetually terrified your blackness would leech into the pure white of her being. It was almost a comfort when you left her behind. It felt selfless, and it made you feel monstrous for the first time. After that, it was always more comforting to fancy that she hated you. Hated you for turning out towards the world and your own destiny and never looking back. Having your beloved little sister back in your arms once more is a bright feeling you haven't felt in years, but knowing how much better off she was without you is slowly ripping open the seam in your chest, every stitch baring her name.
RAHIM AHMADI
Rahim was the first person you met after you left home, roommates in some run-down hostel in Oman. Neither of you had a goal, a destination. A purpose. So you stuck together and wandered the Arabian countryside together before settling back in Paris. Rahim was born and raised in Iran, and the bright lights of Paris drew him in. He stuck to the city like a wayward fly in macaroon batter. The city took to him just about as well as the poor fly. But the two of you found comfort in each other, Rahim sitting patiently by as you wrote your music. Though more than a little concerned about the business Madalene forced on you, Rahim would only consent to involvement should you agree to his being your right-hand man. Your confidant. It seemed only fitting, and at the very least it lets the two of you sit huddled as you bemoan the bloodshed together.

As Luck Would Have It (1/5)
My take on a post-Revelation story, with lots of feels, fluff, and angst >:D
Leokamu, Leorrin, or whatever, if that wasn’t obvious enough lol xP (Can also be read on Ao3, but thanks to tumblr’s stupid tagging system it will be in the source link on this post. I’ve also put the link at the end of this post.)
“So… what are you planning to do now, Leo?” The question had been simple enough, but it left the prince at a blank. Peace had been acquired between Hoshido and Nohr, the true threat between the two countries finally at an end, and with that peace came drastic changes on both sides.
Ryoma, now king of his country, had taken Camilla as his queen during the war, their son Shiro barely a year old at this point. In the land of dusk, Xander and Hinoka had happily settled as king and queen, their own son Siegbert only a few months younger than his cousin but almost nearly as rambunctious.
Prince Takumi and his wife Oboro had restored her family’s kimono shop to its former glory, all the while seeing to the restoration efforts present throughout Hoshido and sitting in for Ryoma and Camilla when they were away from the country. Princess Sakura and her husband Kaden, wanting to assist their homeland in their own way, had traveled to almost all of the clinics and hospitals within Hoshido, tending to the wounded and sick.
Then there came the three remaining royals - four, if you counted Azura.
After the war, Kamui had become the queen of the now-restored Valla. Although she had insisted that Azura was the rightful heir to the throne and deserved to be its ruler, the songstress had politely rejected the notion, instead becoming Kamui’s personal advisor on everything regarding their homeland, now that they could speak freely on the topic. She, along with her husband, Kaze, chose to stay out of the limelight; but both were willing to help out with anything, should they be called to it.
Elise, not wanting to depart from Kamui’s side “ever again”, had also remained in Valla with her former sister, becoming sort of a beacon of hope and joy to the growing population there, something the kingdom truly needed. She and Odin, the latter having remained with his liege, had begun something of a courtship after the war, though both were far too immature to even consider the next step.
Leo, meanwhile, had come to a standstill in his life.
He hadn't needed to return to Nohr necessarily; war wasn’t on the horizon and Xander had a pretty firm grasp on everything at hand. He could travel to Hoshido if he wanted, being close friends with Takumi and all, but he reasoned he would simply feel out of place.
So, he had stayed in Valla. It was the most logical conclusion, after all, and had absolutely nothing to do with the young woman who sat on the throne.
“So… what are you planning to do now, Leo?” Camilla had asked him on one of her and their family’s (many) visits to the new kingdom, and he found that he really didn’t have an answer.
Well, he did, but he wasn’t about to go and voice it. Especially to someone like Camilla.
In the time during the war, he and Kamui had become inseparable, spending long nights reading together or discussing events that had occurred during the day. Before Leo could even fathom what was happening, her kind heart and quirky behavior had won him over completely. She was beautiful beyond belief and even the sound of her laugh lessened his burdens by a mile.
He had grown to care for her; not as a sister, but as a woman. And despite every objection that rose at the very notion of remaining with her, he couldn’t stay away.
“Well, to be honest, I was considering teaching lessons on war strategy here in Valla, seeing as Kamui learned so much back when I tutored her.” Leo finally replied, glancing up at his sister. “I haven’t run the idea by her yet, however.”
Camilla seemed quite pleased by the thought. “Oh, that sounds perfect for you! I’m sure the people here will benefit greatly from that talented brain of yours.”
It was something, at the very least. A footstep in the right direction.
“You? A Teacher?” Elise nearly guffawed, and Leo managed the deepest scowl possible.
He should’ve known his younger sister wouldn’t take the thought seriously, but Kamui, blessed Kamui, had the complete opposite reaction.
“Now, Elise,” she tutted at the girl, “Leo did wonders in improving my tactical skills during the war. I think he would do great in tutoring others, should they wish to learn.”
Elise shrugged, her mouth going slightly sideways. “If you say so, Big Sister. So long as he doesn’t lose that temper of his.”
“You honestly think I’d be so incompetent?” Leo asked, and Elise shrugged again.
“Perhaps you could even attend such lessons, Elise,” Kamui suggested. “You did mention wanting to understand battle formations better a while back.”
“Yeah, I could sit in on a few, I guess,” the girl said in what sounded like surrender, which, where Kamui was involved, wasn’t out of the question. She looked over her shoulder toward the exit to the library, then announced, “I’m gonna go find Odin; he said something about wanting to tell me a story about time travel or the like. See you both later.” And with that, the youngest Nohrian princess bounced away, leaving Leo and Kamui alone.
“Thanks for defending me,” Leo said sheepishly once the space was silent. Kamui turned to him, offering him a little smile.
“You did so all the time back in Nohr for my sake, I felt I could step in for once,” she explained, crossing her arms and wandering to the ornate window at the far end of the room. Leo took a moment to observe her, the way the sunlight practically reflected off her silvery hair, but a moment was all he allowed.
“Something the matter?” he asked as he moved to her side, and Kamui shrugged.
“Ryoma and Xander mentioned wanting to speak with me after dinner this evening. I can only assume it’s in relation to foreign matters, but…”
“But?” Leo pressed. Kamui sighed and turned to face him. Her face was distraught, an expression the prince was not expecting to see.
“I… Camilla and Ryoma were speaking in their chambers the other night, and I happened to overhear them as I passed by. Camilla was entirely upset, and Ryoma was comforting her as best he could, but reasserting his stance all the same.”
“What did he say to her?” Leo questioned, a sinking feeling starting to form in the pit of his stomach. Kamui looked him directly in the eyes, the vibrant red of her irises glistening with moisture.
“Valla will eventually require a king.”
Try as he might, Leo couldn’t help but glare at the two kings sitting on opposite sides of the dining table, conversing like they’d been friends for years. He wanted to demand why they thought it so necessary to leave Kamui so distressed, but like always he simply held his tongue.
A king. He knew the matter would come up eventually; Kamui was queen to Valla and as such would require ties to the surrounding lands - not to mention an heir to secure her lineage. Leo just hadn’t assumed it would be so soon.
No wonder Camilla had been so upset. The mere thought of seeing her on the arm of some… deplorable left a bitter taste in his mouth.
“Leo, you’ve been scraping at nothing for the last two minutes and my ears are starting to bleed,” Elise hissed at him from her seat across the way, and only then did the prince notice the lines his knife had left in the delicate china in front of him.
He set his silverware down, crossing his arms instead. “Apologies,” he muttered, not sounding sincere in the slightest. Elise just rolled her eyes, going back to eating the tart currently sitting on her own plate. Leo hadn’t even touched the dessert platter once it was passed around, and even now the minimal dinner he had ingested sat like a brick in his gut.
“Kamui,” Xander suddenly addressed the girl sitting at the head of the table, and rose from his spot, “Your brother and I wish to speak with you, in private.” Leo felt a chill creep down his spine, and quickly found himself rising, as well. All eyes flew to him, but he simply cleared his throat.
“If I may attend this meeting as well, brother,” he requested, and Xander quirked a brow.
“Surely Leo can be present,” Kamui seconded. “He’s been my right hand up until this point, after all.” Both Ryoma and Xander eyed one another, but acquiesced the request, following Kamui and Leo out of the dining hall and into the queen’s study.
“Sister,” Ryoma began once the doors were closed, already looking uncomfortable. “It should be no surprise that this matter come to attention, but we both felt it plausible to discuss everything now rather than later.”
“And, that we want you to understand that this is only with your best interest in mind,” Xander followed, staring at the floor.
“Brothers, please,” Kamui stepped in, holding up her hands. I already know what it is you wish to address.”
“You do?” the kings sputtered at the same time, and Leo would’ve smirked at their shared dumbfoundedness had he not wanted to beat some sense into them both.
“Yes,” Kamui answered, chewing at her lip. “It’s about my… position as a single ruler, yes?”
Both Ryoma and Xander seemed to deflate, if only slightly. Both returned to their full height but a moment after, appearing steadfast once again.
“Kamui, we understand this is the last thing you wish to think about, but the problem still stands. Valla is a decrepit kingdom in need of alliances, and Nohr and Hoshido’s affiliations can only go so far. Without a solid tie to another foreign body, your kingdom will not thrive.” Xander explained, his brow pinched in worry. Only then did Leo understand that his elder brother was just as uneasy with the idea of marrying Kamui off to some stranger in another land.
“I know,” the queen quietly replied, fiddling with a loose string on her sleeve. “More than anything I wish to see the people of this kingdom whole again, and if my marrying someone can secure that desire, then so be it.”
“Kamui,” Leo’s voice cracked, her words piercing his heart like a knife. He understood the girl had a widespread reputation for her selflessness, but for this?
“I’m glad you understand, dearest sister,” Ryoma said with a smile. “Already you have proven to be a ruler of worth. It makes me proud to witness such firsthand.”
“I, as well,” Xander affirmed, nodding slightly. “As I’m sure you’re already aware, the best means of going about this would be to host a gala of some kind, allowing any interested suitors a chance to travel here and interact with you personally. I’ll see to it that Camilla and Elise start arranging such; they’ve always been expert in such matters.”
“Of course. Thank you, Xander. Ryoma.” Kamui replied. “If you’ll excuse me, I’d like to take part in some quiet reading before bed.”
“Of course, sister,” Ryoma agreed, moving to take his leave. Xander followed suit, and then it was just Leo and Kamui present once again.
“Kamui,” Leo repeated, his voice shaky. “Please tell me you aren’t actually considering this.”
The girl let out a halfhearted laugh, her eyes falling shut as she shook her head. “What choice do I have, Leo? They’re completely correct in their argument, and I can’t be selfish in a time like this.”
“I can’t recall a single time you ever were,” Leo stressed, stepping closer to her. “You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your happiness for anything.”
The young queen looked visibly touched, and Leo’s breath hitched when she reached for his hands, lacing their fingers together. Her skin was like a furnace in comparison to the chilly air of the study, and just the mere brush of her fingers against his offered him a sense of comfort.
“You’re so sweet, Leo,” Kamui murmured, her rosy lips turned upward in a sincere smile. “But this is my legacy, and that won’t change. I understand the consequences, but… for the sake of these people, my people, I must do what is necessary.”
“Kamui…” Leo swallowed thickly, his jaw tight. It was then that the doors to the study flew open and Elise bounded in, Camilla following close behind with Shiro on her hip. Kamui released Leo’s hands, turning to acknowledge the unexpected guests.
Already, the prince missed her tender warmth.
“Ah, here you are, darling,” their elder sister said with what looked to be a forced smile. “Xander said we would find you here, I hope you don’t mind the interruption.”
“Not at all, Camilla,” Kamui replied, managing a smile herself. Elise skipped to the queen’s side and clasped her hands in her own, swinging them back and forth with a bubbly giggle.
“Xander says you’re looking to get married, Big Sister, and he wants Camilla and I to help you out!” the girl chirped in excitement. “Oh, this is gonna be so fun! You’ve never been to a betrothal ball before, have you? We’re gonna arrange the best one ever for you, I promise!”
Kamui laughed at the girl’s enthusiasm, but even in the dim light of the study, Leo could make out the sadness and worry behind her eyes.

“Red Thread” - Jokamu AU [1]
The Jokamu AU game is strong on this site, so I wanted to toss my hat into the ring. I’ve been working on this project for a while, but it’s still not complete. So I thought I’d post a sneak peek here!
It’s very bare bones and needs some major editing, but I hope it can be enjoyed. The final version with multiple chapters will be posted on FF/here for sure.
Legend states that two people connected by the Red Thread if Fate are destined lovers. The gods tie the thread around the little fingers of two people destined to be soulmates. The couple’s love transcends universes and exists regardless of place or time.
The thread may stretch or tangle, but will never break.
“Kana!” Corrin yelled upstairs to her son, who was supposed to be getting dressed for school. The woman knew she needed to continually prompt her son to hurry and get ready. Truthfully, she knew he was probably still in his pajamas and watching television. Her son was a good boy, albeit easily distracted.
Plus, she had a feeling the boy was still a little blue after their recent move.
Before living in the Valla Metropolitan Area, the mother and son duo had resided in the city of Nohr, where Kana had originally gone to school. Moving to the new municipality met that the boy had basically been uprooted from his home and separated from all his friends and even members of his Nohrian family. Frankly, the young woman couldn’t blame the poor boy for feeling stressed. She was an adult and she was still trying to find ways to cope.
If only the move had been all she’d had to worry about, perhaps it would have been easier to adapt.
The young woman hollered upstairs again, her hand cupping her mouth as she called up the stairs of her modest townhouse. “Hurry downstairs, honey! You’re going to be late for school!”
When no reply came, Corrin walked to the base of the stairs while reluctantly sliding her heels onto her already sore feet. She yelled again, “Kana! By the time I count to three, you better be downstairs!”
Silence answered her call.
“One…”
A muffled reply answered her call. It sounded like an ‘okay!’ She supposed that was promising enough for now. She’d give him a couple minutes before yelling up again.
The young woman sighed and ran a hand through her flaxen hair as she walked to her kitchen and took one last swig of coffee. The woman had barely been awake for an hour and had already emptied two cups. It seemed it was going to be one of those weeks.
She knew being a single mother would have its challenges, but she never imagined how hectic just the simple task of getting out the door in the morning would be.
Corrin had moved to the municipality of Valla about a year ago to accept a position of City Manager. The young woman had grown up with government ties in Nohr, but had moved to the city of Valla after learning of the nepotism and scandals in her hometown. The rumors had spread like wildfire and, although she’d never held a position of power in Nohr, she was quickly resented. She’d been born in the city of Hoshido, and even the legality of her citizenship had been called into question. Hoshido resented her, and it was too risky to remain in Nohr.
As a solution, she’d moved to Valla. It was an awkward city that was close to declaring bankruptcy. Her ultimatum had been to move to the city or face consequences in Nohr. If she could make a life there, perhaps she could give her son the childhood he deserved without having to witness political turmoil.
I have to give Kana a normal life, Corrin thought as she finished her coffee and placed the mug in the sink. He deserves it so much, especially after what he went through with his father…
The woman cringed, shuddering against all the violent memories that threatened to assail her in the moment. Corrin had left Kana’s biological father out of necessity, and had won the battle to take custody of Kana. That didn’t mean memories of her former spouse didn’t haunt her still.
Thankfully, the sound of her son’s footsteps awoke her from her day dream and directed her attention towards the corridor, where he was sitting on the bottom step and slipping on his sneakers. Seconds later, the boy bounced up and ran to his mother’s side, wearing casual clothes and sporting a messy hairstyle. The woman sighed at the sight of her son’s unkempt hair and decided to keep her mouth shut.
“Okay, I’m ready,” Kana said. “Mama, you don’t have to walk me to the station. I can get there by myself. You don’t have to worry about me.”
Any other kid would have made up the excuse to avoid being seen walking with his mother. Coming from Kana, it was a sincere statement.
“Are you excited?” Corrin asked as she reached for her purse and camel-colored coat, slipping it on over her narrow shoulders. “This is your first day of public school, after all.”
“Yep! I don’t have to wear a school uniform anymore,” he said excitedly. Despite his happy tone, she could tell at least part of his enthusiasm was only a façade. “So, um…that’s good.”
“Right,” Corrin replied awkwardly, averting her gaze from her son’s temporarily. A knife of guilt twisted into her heart, but she knew she was doing the right thing.
The young boy also retrieved his jacket from the nearby coat rack and pulled it on more clumsily than he would have liked. Corrin saw him struggl and reached down to help her son put his arms through the bulky sleeves.
“So, pop quiz time,” Corrin said as she kneeled to meet her son’s gaze. “How are you going to get home today?”
“I’ll get on the train and then transfer once to get to the station near the school,” he said with a nod. “When I come home, I can either take the train or the bus. There’s a stop a block away from the school, and I’ll take the bus home if there’s a delay for the train. I have the money for the fare if I need it, my metro card…and…”
The boy pursed his lips as he tried to recall the last item. Finally, he said with a burst of energy, “Oh! I also have that index card with your phone number on it in case I get lost!”
“That’s right,” Corrin said, wagging a finger in front of his face before playfully poking the tip of his nose. “If you get lost, be sure to call me as soon as possible. Just in case, I’ll give you some extra change for a payphone.”
As Corrin dug into her purse for some extra change that she’d otherwise probably use for toll booths, the little boy laughed and put a tiny hand on her elbow to stop her from giving him anymore money. Payphones were so outdated that it would be pointless to take away change she could possible use for more practical things anyway.
“I promise, Mama! I won’t get lost!”
Kana was completely lost.
The little boy had gotten to school without a problem and had found it incredibly easy to make friends. Although the classes at his former school had given him a jumpstart on some of the lessons, he was still baffled by some of the lessons taught by his older teacher. The boy didn’t catch his last name because all of the students simply referred to him by his first name, Gunter, much to the man’s chagrin.
Gunter’s irritation aside, Kana enjoyed his class and had even made friends with a younger girl named Midori. They’d played at recess and she had even volunteered to share her history textbook with him after the boy realized he’d forgotten to pack his after getting dressed. He supposed he got what he deserved after spending the entire morning watching cartoons instead of getting ready for school.
Once classes were dismissed, Kana had bid Midori farewell and set off to the train station. At least, that had been his plan.
The craziness of dismissal combined with the unfamiliar cityscape around the school had disoriented the boy and left him get turned around. Every building looked like the copy of the other. Some shone with a futuristic mirrored aesthetic while others were dull cement lumps anchoring shady street corners. The boy had circled the block a dozen times and hadn’t been able to locate the bus stop, train station or elementary school again.
After almost half an hour of walking through both safe and risky areas of the city, nothing around the boy looked familiar. None of the shops or stores looked like ones he’d passed on his way to school. Any bus stops he found weren’t on the route he needed to take home, and although he knew he could transfer if he had to, the map was so confusing that he didn't feel safe attempting to board.
Still, it was his best chance.
Kana had been holding back nervous tears for a while, but continued to force them back as he tried to navigate the overwhelming map of intertwining colorful pathways in parts of the city he didn’t even know existed.
Less than a minute later, the boy broke down into tears.
“Mama…” he wept, thinking only of how disappointed she would be in him. The boy had no idea that Corrin was already frantic with worry after calling her house and finding nobody home to take the call. She had already abandoned work early and driven to the school to find him, but Kana couldn’t have made it back even if he knew his mother was looking for him.
As he sniffled and tried to wipe his tears with the sleeves of his nylon jacket, he heard the soft ring of a bell a few feet behind him. It sounded like someone was exiting the shop behind the bus stop. Kana turned briskly in an attempt to hide his tears, but the stranger wasn’t fooled.
“Hey kid,” a voice droned lazily. “Um…are you lost? My old man said you can come in and use our phone.”
The blond child turned hesitantly to see the identity of the person who was speaking to him. The stranger was much older than him and appeared to be in high school. His clothes were dark and baggy, and his hair was thick but unkempt.
While Kana was initially put off by his deeply hooded eyes and hunched posture, there was something about the teen that seemed to calm him. Perhaps it was the very small, sincere smile on his face. It wasn’t the expression of someone faking kindness, but rather the smile of someone who was caring and concerned. His mother always looked at him similarly when he cried.
“I…um…” Kana stuttered as he gripped the zipper of his jacket nervously and tugged it back and forth. “I’m not supposed to talk to strangers.”
The teen laughed and nodded. He said slowly, “That’s good. Your parents taught you well.”
“My mom taught me,” Kana corrected timidly. “I can’t find her.”
The teen nodded sympathetically, feigning ignorance as if he hadn’t already pinpointed the vague source of the boy’s distress.
“Sure,” the teen said. “That’s really scary. I don’t blame you for being upset. I’d be scared too.”
Kana looked at the teen and blinked his eyes slowly. Some of the guilt he felt for getting lost was lifted from his tense shoulders.
“You can come inside the restaurant and use the phone, or we can wait outside and you can call her on my cell phone if that makes you more comfortable. My old man and I just didn’t want you out here and lost by yourself.”
While the neighborhood around them wasn’t specifically unsafe, it certainly wasn’t the place a child should be walking alone.
“The restaurant?” Kana asked quietly.
“Well, that might be a stretch,” the teen said, jerking a thumb over his shoulder. “It’s more like a café I guess.”
Kana followed the teen’s gesture and looked up to see a coffee shop with a variety of pastries in the window. The café was small and cramped like most places in the city, but the windows were nicely decorated with diamond-cut stained glass. The black, mauve and deep mahogany color scheme managed to make the small restaurant look incredibly classy and well-kept.
The words “Joker’s Patisserie” were written in delicate script on a wooden sign hanging above the door. A small sandwich board also sat near the front door depicting a white rabbit mascot wearing a jester hat. The little creature pointed a cartoonish wand at the drink and dessert specials of the day on the boards.
Kana’s teary eyes popped open to the size of blooming wildflowers. In almost an instant, his sadness was replaced with wonder.
“I wanna use the phone inside!”
If it had been any other occasion, Corrin would have absolutely been terrible at parallel parking.
However, the stakes were high enough that she didn’t overthink the process as she neatly slid between two tightly packed cars a few feet away from the “Joker’s Patisserie” café.
It had only been about half an hour since she’d originally gotten a call on her cell phone from an unrecognized number. The woman instantly felt hope brim up inside her knowing that it wasn’t a work phone call. Only one person had her number; her son.
The call had started with, “Um, hello? My name is Dwyer, and I’m calling to let you know your son Kana is okay. We found him lost outside our restaurant. He says that you might be at work right now, but we stay open pretty late so you can come pick him up as soon as you can. Our address is…”
Corrin wrote down the address, thanked the sleepy-sounding teenager, and shoved her phone right back into her coat pocket before restarting her car’s engine and making a beeline for the café. The trip would have been shorter if she hadn’t had to right city traffic, but it was still better than walking or waiting for a bus. Even if the caller said he was okay, she didn’t want to leave her baby alone in a place with strangers. He’d probably already had a traumatic day and she wanted to rush to his side as soon as possible.
Upon parking the car and setting the brake with a little more force than what was probably needed, she jumped out and ran in her work coat and heels down to the café. She opened the door and instantly ducked inside.
“Kana?”
The inside of the café was decently busy, so her initial call was drowned out by the sounds of customers and the soft sound of bossa nova music coming from over the sound system. The woman looked around and saw two waitresses, one with blue hair and another with pink hair, serving tables and juggling trays of fruity desserts and rainbow-colored drinks.
The interior of the shop was incredibly narrow with a bar on one side and a few tables for seating on the left. She didn’t see her son at any of the booths and looked around for a staff member to talk to. Almost immediately she pinpointed someone behind the counter with long pale hair and neatly pressed clothes. He didn’t look like the sluggish teenager she’d pictured talking to on the phone, but he wasn’t talking to any customers at the moment. She took the opportunity to grab him while he was free and circled the bar to meet him.
“Excuse me,” she said as he turned again to arrange glassware on a shelf behind the bar. “I’m looking for someone.”
The man turned around swiftly to meet her gaze. He certainly didn’t look dangerous or threatening enough to incite suspicion, but he also looked quite older than the individual she had spoken to on the phone. Instead she pursed her lips and said quickly, “I spoke to someone named Dwyer over the phone who said you found my son outside your restaurant. Um...are you...?”
“Oh no,” the man said, his voice heavily accented. Corrin realized immediately the man she was speaking to wasn’t the teen she’d spoken to on the phone. Before she could become panic-stricken, he continued, “You spoke to my son, Dwyer. You’re to pick up Kana, correct?”
“Yes!” she replied breathlessly, hope returning to her eyes. “I did! I would have been here earlier, but the traffic was awful. I’m so sorry, but when I came in, I didn’t see him and…”
The woman realized very quickly that she was babbling in her anxious state and forced herself to calm down as best she could. She continued with more poise, “I’m sorry for not introducing myself. I’m Kana’s mother, Corrin. I work at the Vallite City Hall on the corner of 6th and 25th street.”
“Ah, I see,” the man replied with a smile. “My son is watching him right now in the back. Your boy was a little teary, so we thought it would be better for him to calm down somewhere with less noise and people.”
“Oh, thank you,” Corrin said, practically beside herself with gratefulness. Before she could continue, she heard the sound of a door click open and saw her son standing in the doorway to the café’s back area. His eyes were still a little puffy from crying, but otherwise he looked perfectly fine.
“Mama!” he cried gleefully. The boy bolted so fast across the restaurant that he managed to cross the wide threshold between them in only a few steps. Corrin threw her arms open and pulled him into a tight hug, picking him up and twirling him about. The act caused Kana to squeal with delight. The woman dotted his face with kisses and held him close to her heart, which was still racing from anxiety.
“Kana, I’m so glad you’re oaky,” she said, using her free hand to push down some locks of hair that were standing up after his aerial rendezvous. “I was so worried.”
“I’m sorry,” Kana said, still holding his mom tightly even after she went to place him back on the ground. “I got lost and tried to find my way home. I should have called you sooner.”
“No, it’s my fault,” Corrin said sincerely as she cupped her son’s face. “We should have practiced the route more. We’ll find a way to get you to and from school where you can’t get lost, okay?”
“Okay,” the boy said with a nod. “I’d like that.”
As the mother and son duo reconciled, Dwyer went into the back to grab Kana’s backpack from where they’d waited in the back. The teen walked up silently and placed the bag beside Kana and Corrin, and stepped back just as carefully as if not to disturb them. The man behind the counter gave his son a thankful nod and went back to polishing glasses nonchalantly.
“Thank you so much,” Corrin said again as she reached out to take Kana’s bag and slip it onto his shoulders. “I can’t thank you both enough.”
“It was our pleasure,” Dwyer said with a smothered yawn. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Thank you, Dwyer,” Corrin said. She then turned her attention to the slightly older man behind the counter who had said he was Dwyer’s father. “And thank you too…um…”
“Jakob,” the man replied kindly with a tip of the head. Although his tone was polite, there seemed to be an air of forced disinterest around him now that Kana was safe with his mother. It was as if he was trying way too hard to seem modest. “Please don’t thank me. My son did all the work. I’m just happy he’s okay.”
Kana made a face at Jakob’s indifference. “Mama, Jakob also gave me a lot of tissues and told me about the buses around here so I wouldn’t get lost again.”
Jakob blushed a little bit at the boy’s statement and went back to doing some kind of busy work behind the counter. Even if Jakob didn’t return Corrin’s thankful stare, he certainly noted it.
“That’s not all,” Kana said cheerfully. “Dwyer said he goes to high school right down the block from me! He knows the area really well too.”
“He does?” Corrin asked with a laugh. “What a coincidence. Maybe we’ll have to stop in after school for some snacks soon.”
“Yay!” Kana said, throwing his fists up into the air as she danced around in circles.
“Well, if you both come back, your next order will be on the house,” Jakob replied in response to Kana’s excitement. It seemed that even his cold, semi-introverted nature wasn’t exempt from Kana’s charm. “My son and I run this place, so you’re both always welcome.”
Corrin gave him an appreciative look. Even after all the trouble she must have caused them, they were still kind enough to welcome her back. The woman made a secret promise to come back after her next paycheck and get a sizable order of food from them. They deserved to be thanked somehow, in her mind.
“Thank you, Jakob” Corrin said with a nod as she softly opened the café door. She hadn’t noticed before due to her panicked state, but he was certainly very attractive. While his handsomeness had registered at the time, she certainly didn’t dwell on it.
Now as he returned her grin and watched her exit the café, she thought that perhaps there would be a reason besides sweets and desserts to return to the quirky little café.
With a lovely smile, she replied, “I’ll remember that.”
[To be continued]
Who was Kana’s father, you ask? Whoever you want it to be. I don’t want to scrutinize anyone’s favorite Fates pairings, so Corrin’s former spouse can be anyone you like (or don’t.)
I also imagine here that Kana’s has Corrin’s hair color and Dwyer has Jakob’s.

just to be quiet with you
My entry for day one of @ferarepair-week2k17! I chose the prompt Fireworks, because I'm not creative, but I am super gay. So here's something equally gay that I was too lazy to upload to AO3. This is probably all over the place cause it has a bunch of stuff I had thought about for this ship and had nowhere else to put.
Prompt: Fireworks
Pairing: Sakura/Hana (Fire Emblem: Fates)
Words: 1,539
"I d-don't want you to get in trouble with Yukimura because of me! L-let's just go back, okay? I swear, I'm f-fine! Everyone must be so-" A gentle squeeze of her hand and a calloused finger pressed to her lips were enough to quell Sakura anxious ramblings, if even for a moment.
"Enough of that. Just let me do this for you, alright?" Despite the finality of her words, Hana's words were soft and gentle, just like the person they were spoken to. "You deserve to relax too. Besides, I asked Subaki to cover for me. He'll think of something."
With a confident smile, the samurai's silently removed her finger from her liege's mouth, and continued to lead her awkwardly through the dusk, away from the lights and sounds of the ongoing festival. As both princess and the figurehead of the Dawn Dragon shrine, Sakura  had done her duty and led the procession but, being the first festival since the long-awaited peace treaty with Nohr, more than a few of their western neighbours were to be in attendance, including the entire royal family, as well as that of Valla. The thought of all those expectant eyes on Sakura made her stomach turn. What if she had fallen on her face in front of all those people? What if she had forgotten the words to say, or the moves to do? What if she dropped her rod, or just cracked under the pressure and burst into tears in the middle of the street? What if they all saw how terrified she looked, and were even now laughing at what an ill-mannered and embarrassing princess Hoshido had?
Upon confiding in her loyal retainer and closest friend, Hana had whispered something to her red-haired partner, who gave a nod and a knowing smile in response, and whisked Sakura out the back exit, leading her off to who knows where. For all the worrying the young princess did, this hasn't worried her. She trusted Hana with all her heart, and that trust had never once led her astray.
She was pulled from this train of thought when  her companion's guiding footsteps came to a stop, as she squinted in the early moonlight to make out the shape of a hill, on top of which sat a tall tree, which she recognized instantly. Hana had showed her this place many times- told her it was her favourite place in all of Hoshido. They had snuck away to this place many times when they were young- playing under the old tree, admiring the pale, almost ethereal cherry blossoms as they fell. This was the place she had- no, that wasn't important right now. They hadn't visited this spot in years, but it was still exactly how she had remembered it.
"Oh, Hana..." she sighed, forgetting that the subject of her wistful sighs could still clearly hear her. The samurai looked proud of herself, but continued setting out a blanket Sakura hadn't noticed her bringing in the first place. "Sit with me? Please? The fireworks are about to start, if you want to watch. We can still see them from here." Hana kept talking, even though Sakura had already sat as soon as she offered, and stifled a giggle as her retainer gave an awkward, theatrical cough before kneeling properly next to her, at a respectful distance, of course.
It surprised the both of them when the rose-haired princess closed the distance between them, letting her head fall softly onto her best friend's shoulder and her eyes gingerly drift closed, exhausted and content. Sakura was surprised by her own bravery, and Hana was surprised, though pleasantly so, by the typically sweet show of affection from the most important person in her world.
They sat like so for what felt like an eternity and an instant at once, muscles slack and eyes closed, appearing to the world sound asleep, though they were merely basking in each other's company.
Sakura nearly jumped out of her skin at the crack of the first firework, shooting up straight even as her dainty fingers wound themselves through Hana's in her lap. After a moment of comforting words and Hana's other hand over hers, and they were able to settle themselves back into that comfortable silence, with one additional point of contact. When Hana attempted to respectfully remove her hand, Sakura had tightened her grip, silently begging her to let them stay like this, and so they did.
No matter how many festivals she had seen (virtually all of them since she was old enough to appear in public), fireworks never failed to strike awe into the young princess's heart. This night more than ever, whether because of her best friend's company or the momentous occasion that they stood for, the fireworks seemed truly magical - which they may have been, for all she knew - as if the gods themselves had splattered paint across the sky.
They shone like dying stars, lighting the sky for the briefest of moments as if in a final call for help, before bursting into stardust, dissipating throughout space before vanishing altogether. It was sad but beautiful, and for a brief moment, Sakura found herself wishing that she could have a death like that - giving off light for others, however briefly, remembered fondly by all as far as her light was able to reach.
The feeling of Hana shifting her weight against her brought the princess out of her poetic and morbid thought process, bringing her back to the moment in which she was sitting hand-in-hand with her best friend as time stood still, save for the starbursts illuminating the sky above them, giving her a brief glimpse at her samurai's reddened face.
While Sakura gleefully watched the fireworks in the sky, Hana stared only at her lap, in which both of her hands lay clasped around her beloved princess's dainty hand. It was not a hand made for war. This was a hand made to enjoy peace- it was a hand made to be protected, covetted, kept safe from the evils of this world. Hana's hands were made for war.
She had lost her purpose with nothing to protect her princess from, and as selfish as it was, began to seek out reasons to be useful to Sakura, just to be as close to her as possible at all times. But in the new world of peace they had built together, she found herself with time to contemplate things she had never allowed herself to in wartime. To contemplate feelings of love. For her liege.
When Sakura tightened her grip, refusing to let go of Hana's hand, the young samurai's face screwed up, turning a bright red. Two things controlled everything Hana did in her life: her honour as a samurai, and her love for Sakura. The two forces were now battling it out in her head. This perfect scene overwhelmed her with just how much she truly did love Sakura, but her father's voice in her head reminded her that a samurai must always be respectful and place their lords above all else, themselves in particular. Hana had struggled to even accept friendship with the princess for precisely this reason- romantic intent was entirely out of the question.
And yet she couldn't ignore how she felt about Sakura. She was so beautiful, so gentle and sweet and loving, so strong in so many ways that she had never truly appreciated. She loved her more than anything else in the world, and she would be selfish if it meant never living without this girl she thought was absolutely perfect. Her mind had already been made up, and Hana was not known for backing down.
Swallowing her pride, she cursed herself and opened her mouth, trying to untie her tongue. "L-lady- No, Sakura- I- I li- I love you!" She felt like she was shouting, but she could barely hear herself over the crackle of fireworks overhead. And judging from Sakura's unchanged rapt expression towards the spectacle in the sky, it seemed that neither had she. So much for Hana's big dramatic confession.
They sat on that hill long after the fireworks had come to an end, and Hana's newly disappointed expression didn't go unnoticed by Sakura, though she didn't bring it up.
Hana had definitely not been starting to doze off still leaning against her already seemingly-sleeping princess when what seemed to be Subaki's voice cut through the thin woodlands between the hill and festival grounds, calling both their names in succession. Why the fool didn't simply mount his pegasus and fly over the trees was beyond her, but she broke away and gently jostled Sakura awake, or at least attent. She suggested they return to the grounds, neglecting to mention her partner's searching in any capacity. She stood briskly, offering Sakura one hand as she brushed off her hakama with the other, and tried to ignore the pit in her stomach as the princess took her hand.
As she rose to her feet,  Sakura sheepishly tucked a stray strawberry lock behind her ear before bobbing to place a sweet, chaste kiss to Hana's lips. It was just how she had imagined Sakura would kiss, but also so much better.
"I love you too."
This was the place Sakura had fallen in love so long ago, and she hopes they would start coming back here more often.

Revealing the Star: Triumphant Takumi
Takumi has got to be one of the most interesting, thought provoking, complex and well designed characters to come out of Fates. Much like many of the best characters in the game, Takumi is one that you need to invest your time into in order to truly understand him. Judging based on face value alone might put off a lot of people towards him. After all, he doesn’t exactly make the best first impression. But once you’re willing to look past it and give him the time to grow on you, you’ll find that there is a lot to unpack in him and that there is something truly depressing to his overall theme. And I find all that connects to his unfortunate title of being Fire Emblem Fates’
Tumblr media
#1 most damaged character.
Once upon a time, I would have easily given that title to Camilla. There really is a lot of damage on her (if you want to see the full scoop, I recommend checking out Ghast Stations support science video on Camilla), but even with that, we see clear moments of respite and enjoyment in her life regardless of what she’s dealing with.
In the case of Takumi, however, there are no moments of respite or enjoyment.
Unlike Leo, whose inferiority complex only affects how he interacts with his siblings, Takumi’s is so severe it affects how he interacts with everything. It’s not just the sense of inadequacy within his family, it’s the sense that he just doesn’t belong in the world, that he won’t ever be able to make a name for himself regardless of what he does and that he simply isn’t capable of even trying.
In fact, after doing some research on this, I found that Takumi might be going through something even more dangerous. Not only is he dealing with an intense inferiority complex, but I’ve actually seen some signs of possible schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects the way one thinks, acts and behaves. And after looking through the signs one shows when suffering from it, I’ve seen that a lot of them are extremely similar to how Takumi acts in some moments through the games. His standoff attitude, the words and actions he does without wanting to, the belief that others are always talking about him behind his back and the fact that the archives label him as the character that has the worst nightmares all point to signs that Takumi might be suffering more than any of us initially thought.
And because none of the characters or the audience seems to be aware of this, it’s what’s caused so many to just assume Takumi to be just a jerk and just ignore him, which is only making the whole thing worse. Takumi already believes that no one loves him, so people avoiding him because they just think he’s rude and can’t be reasoned with will only allow him to sink further into his disease. People who are suffering from any form of mental illness need to be treated. Ignoring the problem in hopes that it will go away will only make it steadily worse. And with people like Takumi, you need to let them know that not only do you love them, but that you’re always there for them.
And, surprisingly, despite Takumi seeming to try and isolate himself from others in order to avoid getting hurt, he has managed to subconsciously surround himself with quite the large group of people who want to help him. And none more so than his
Tumblr media
2 loyal retainers.
Even though we don’t know much on the history between Takumi and his retainers or just how long they’ve been together, one thing has been made clear from watching the way these two interact with their lord: they help to bring out the best in him.
It seems like, more so than anyone, Oboro and Hinata know who the real Takumi is. They have seen what he’s like when he’s truly happy and not worrying about his presence to the world. And it seems like they want to make that side of him more well known. They want others to see the Takumi that is more caring, supportive and lighthearted. And even if they aren’t able to do so, they enjoy the time they spend with him and the connections they formed with him. And what I like most about their bond is how both of them bring out different sides to Takumi.
Hinata’s supports with him show him trying to get Takumi to lighten up and just enjoy his time, and throughout the whole ordeal, it’s not his enjoyment he’s focused on, it’s Takumi’s. How he turns out isn’t what’s important; what’s important is knowing that Takumi had fun during the whole thing and all his effort didn’t go to waste.
Oboro’s is the one I find more interesting, for one big reason. This support showed a new and vastly unseen part of Takumi. Rather than being the one doted on and needing comfort, he’s the one comforting someone else and helping to ease their pain. In this moment, Takumi realizes that he isn’t the only one dealing with deep mentally scarring issues and he puts aside his own pain for the sake of another. It’s what helps to make the bond feel genuine, and unlike a certain pairing in Awakening that demands that we treat it as canon despite them having less chemistry than a rock and a tree, Takumi and Oboro’s relationship seems believable and understandable.
And it’s not just their bond that he has to show for, there’s also the bond he shares with his
Tumblr media
3 siblings.
Though, in all fairness, his bond with them isn’t the greatest.
Not to say that they don’t love or care for him, they definitely do and are trying their best to slowly help him, but there is one big obstacle that holds it back.
They’re not really all that good at expressing it.
Ryoma’s bad habit of preferring an easy short term solution, Hinoka being so determined to maintain her tomboy image that I’m pretty sure if she even glances at a dress she’ll explode, and Sakura being so timid and unsure of herself that I’m surprised she isn’t scared of her own shadow don’t really help much in that matter. And considering their complete focus on trying to get back Corrin; let’s just say that it doesn’t surprise me that, even after all these years, Takumi is still suffering.
His siblings have some serious faults in how they handle themselves that they really need to fix if they want to get Takumi any closer to feeling better.
Especially considering that I counted
Tumblr media
4 times he fell victim to the world.
Having his mind manipulated by both Anankos and Iago. Nearly succumbing to a fatal illness. Being held hostage by a disguised Zola. And nearly falling into the bottomless void of Valla.
I can’t blame Takumi for thinking that the world is out to get him, since he does seem to somehow have worse luck than Arthur. He has unfortunately painted a giant target on him by showing just how vulnerable he is and how easy it is to manipulate him. I can definitely see why Anankos made him his primary puppet.
Because of the constant hesitations, doubts and emotional turmoil he suffers on an hourly basis, Takumi has made himself very vulnerable and prone to be put into dangerous situations. And I find that it comes from two distinct traits to him. For one, because he can be a bit blunt and careless with his words and actions, it was easy for no one to realize that he was being manipulated and slowly corrupted. And second, aside from Ryoma, Takumi is easily the strongest member or the Hoshidan army, if not all the Fates characters. When you manage to get rid of the strongest person in an army, you almost immediately get the advantage over your foe. And if you can get that person on your side, you pretty much secure an instant victory for you. With this, it’s no wonder why Takumi is both desired and dreaded. And it’s pretty clear which side Takumi listens to more.
Yet in spite of all the turmoil he deals with on a daily basis, not only does he remain one of the most popular characters in Fates, he still remains the most desired
Tumblr media
5 star hero.
I know that so long as new heroes get added, this statement is going to become less and less credible, but I still believe that even with all the new characters we’ve gotten, Takumi is still one of the most sought after units. I still see post from people who lament how they have yet to get him or celebrating how joyful they are to have him. And while it’s easy to hate on him because of how overpowered he is and how much it can pain people to have to face him in the arena, especially with recent updates, but that’s more down to the people that abuse him rather than the actual character.
And I know I might seem pretty biased, since I am guilty of using him on my main team. But allow me state why not only I, but many others like me, use him. Not because of his strength, but his character.
I stand by the belief that most if not all the Fates characters in Heroes are of a post Revelations universe. And if that is the case, it does explain Takumi’s personality in this. He seems to have mellowed out from his previous persona and is less harsh on himself. Granted, yes, he still has doubts and issues and he does still think that others look down on him, but it feels like he is slowly growing more confident in himself and is working to stand tall more often.
And that’s easily the best part about Takumi.
He’s easily the character we cheer for the most. The one we want to see grow and better himself. The one we want to see come out happy. We want to see him succeed and earn the peace he so truly deserves.
And with how things are going for him, I think it’s safe to say that he just might be on the right path.

princess-of-crepes replied to your post: princess-of-crepes replied to your post: ...
That’s a fair point, and I do agree with you that he’s one of the better written characters…in a way. The whole concept of clashing thoughts and emotions is a really intelligent one. However, my problem is that we don’t really see it in the story as much. We do see it in the supports (take his support with Corrin), but his actions and thoughts in the story do not reflect clashing ideas. My point is that I think he deserves writing that actually captures all of this.
Okay but why? Why does it need to be in the story? There’s enough evidence in both the story and the supports to help players realize what’s going on if they take the time to learn about these characters and apply what they’re learned to the hints dropped in the game. What more would it have added that the combination of the story and the supports couldn’t? Sure, in the story itself, it isn’t crystal clear and granted, there could have been more hints but I don’t really see how that’s a bad thing?
Not being completely clear with what’s going on isn’t always bad writing. Sometimes, you need to be vague with hints dropped so that the people playing can come to their own conclusions. Just handing them the information gets boring, it doesn’t allow for any thinking to happen which is, arguably, one of the best things about playing games and consuming stories in general. Could Fates be a little bit too vague at times? Oh yeah, especially when it came to Valla and the dragons and all that where there should be a lot more information but when it comes to characters, the combination of what happens in the story and the supports acts as enough to give players an idea.
Honestly, I’m of the opinion, that stating it out clear and simple the kind of situation Xander was in would have ruined his story a little bit because we would have been instantly privy to why he’s doing the things he does and that’s just no fun, especially in Birthright when Xander is one of the antagonists. A big part of him is this two sided clash, between how he is in the supports and how he is in the game and you, the player, are left trying to figure it out and you can with the evidence provided. Same with Ryoma and Camilla and Leo and Takumi - all of them don’t have lot of implication to their character in the game but with what is provided and the supports, you can put the pieces together.
And really, I prefer more figuring it out for myself rather than it being handed to me. With the latter method, where’s the fun? Why keep my interest in the characters if it’s just spelled out for me? I agree that it probably should have been a little bit more hinted at but as long as it’s in the game, even if it’s in the supports, I’m not one hundred percent understanding why it was necessary to be in the story.

You've told us that the people of Valla worship Anankos, but are there any official religions in Nohr or Hoshido? Do they worship the Dusk and Dawn dragons, or Anankos by another name, or something else entirely?
I never really put a label on what religions are practiced in this world, nor do i ever believe I really can because I’m not familiar with discussing religion in general. But I think religion greatly affects how people interact with people of other beliefs and also their general attitude about things, so we can discuss how important figures impacted the attitudes of people.
Anankos’ Judgment
Everyone on the continent of Quirinus knows about Anankos as the Father Dragon, the progenitor of the royal families of both the east and west lands. In mythology, he’s not as featured strongly like Dion and Kleo, who actually physically walked the earth. He’s seen as a figure of truth and judgment since he sees and hears all, and also is the guy who ultimately decided that Vallites could no longer live on the surface because of the cruelty of humanity.
There’s a split on what happens next after Anankos called back the Vallites (or killed the ones who refused to come home). Some parts on both sides of the mountains believed that he would return and along with him the Vallites who were so revered in the past. Examples include the Cult of Kleo, and a Hoshidan majority.
The mindset for Hoshidans could be this way because they weren’t as heavily affected by the calamity that killed surface dwelling Vallites. Compared to Nohr, they’re still thriving, so they didn’t get put in the situation where they had to give up on waiting and hoping. Some likely believed that Anankos favored them the most compared to Nohr (who they thought must have been worse than them because they were punished the most), so they hold a great amount of respect for Anankos. This leads to the “keeping and preserving tradition” attitude that still persists in Hoshidan society by the time of the story.
Meanwhile the other side of the argument is that “Father Dragon isn’t coming back, stop hanging onto the past, just live like he would have wanted us to.” This sort of school of thought is more strongly attributed in the west lands, who were devastated by the calamity. Some think they deserved the punishment and some don’t think was fair, but there is a general consensus that people need to act on their own accord and not depend so strongly on others. This is a mindset shared by many Nohrians, but also some small parts of Hoshido as well (The Fire Tribe, Mokushu, Kohga, the Amachis, etc).
Despite the obvious wish to distance themselves from the Father Dragon, there’s still some respect to old traditions involving Anankos, such as funeral traditions, holidays, and royal birth ceremonies.
The Dusk Dragon Kleo
Out of the two founders, people tend to see Kleo as the more badass one because she’s the one who’s getting into battle, and even died a warrior. She was also feared for her unstoppable army. In some way, because Nohrians have a “forget Anankos’ assdickery and move on” attitude, they look up more to Kleo than Anankos himself. Anankos is too distant of a figure for them, so you’ll find Nohrians directly worshipping Kleo (and the royal family descended from her) than Anankos.
Since she, too, was a glory seeker, so are a majority of Nohr. There’s lots of references and idioms in Nohrian literate and language that are attributed to Kleo’s legends, and it’s built the strongly competitive atmosphere in Nohr we see today. It’s nice because it’s what’s kept Nohr strong today, but competitiveness means someone’s gotta lose, and there are many who have lost their lives, history, and culture.
The Dawn Dragon Dion
Considered the more laid back of the two, Dion appears more often as a wise sage to various Hoshidan heroes. He doesn’t take an active role in a lot of Hoshidan legends like Kleo does over in the west, but he often provides guidance to famous figures in ancient Hoshidan history.
He’s also known to be a guy who never settles in one place so much there’s a famous saying for being noncommittal about him. I’m pretty sure at one point, some lucky lord snagged him as a strategist, but since Dion is such a flighty guy, he left as soon as he helped the guy win. The time he settles down, he puts his kingdom on an island away from the mainland because he was such a private guy, didn’t want to bargain with any Hoshidan lords for land. His own descendants would eventually become Hoshidan heroes themselves and be more involved in the shaping of Hoshido to the way it is today.
In some ways, his attitude has affected Hoshidan society in a way of being more laid back and not really looking for change, which is nice, but can also turn into complacency. He’s seen more as a tangible person compared to Kleo, and because of the more favorable impression of Anankos, who is directly worshiped in Hoshido compared to Nohr. People know him better as a strategist and philosopher.

hair colour. periwinkle blue. eye colour. red. skin tone. pale and rosy-cheeked. body type. petite and slender, with lightly toned muscles. some slight curves. accent. early on, araceli spoke with a distinct nohrian accent. over the years -- from her perspective, at any rate -- she has since lost it. dominant hand. ambidextrous, but favours her right hand. posture. straight and proper, befitting a princess. she has a habit of slouching when alone, though. tattoos. none. most noticeable features. pointed ears, her left eye is missing and has been replaced with a glass one. she is uncomfortable with displaying the false eye, however, and covers it up with a black eyepatch. almost always wears a big, silver butterfly hairpin. occasionally, dragon horns, a tail, or some other draconic appendage.
CHILDHOOD.
place of birth. the kingdom of valla. hometown. unknown; though likely valla’s capital. birth weight / height.  unknown. first words.  likely ‘mama’ or ‘papa’. siblings.  lilith ( younger biological sister, self sired by anankos or in the case of canon divergence mothered by mikoto ), any other custom my units ( can be older or younger, but always her biological sibling ), high prince ryouma, princess hinoka, prince takumi, princess sakura ( hoshidan step-siblings ), crown prince xander, princess camilla, prince leo, princess elise ( nohrian “adopted” siblings ). parents.  anankos ( biological father, first dragon, will eventually die by araceli’s hand ), mikoto ( second princess of valla & later queen of hoshido, deceased ), king sumeragi of hoshido ( stepfather, deceased ), king garon of nohr ( “adoptive” father, disowned ) parental involvement.  uh. let’s see here. biological father sent her and her mother away from valla to prevent them getting caught up in his degeneration... and set her up to be the one to kill him in the end, to the point of meddling with time magic to ensure his defeat. her time with her mother and stepfather was cut short thanks to garon ambushing sumeragi, murdering him, and kidnapping her. he then proceeded to quite literally beat any traces of hoshido out of her to the point where he had her memory wiped entirely, and even then continued to be abusive. when she finally got to reunite with her mother over a decade later, mikoto was murdered before her eyes. so uh... i’d say they weren’t really involved in her life.
ADULT LIFE
occupation. princess of hoshido/nohr/valla, commander of the united hoshidan & nohrian army. in the postgame, she becomes either the unwilling queen or an ambassador of valla. current residence. upon refusing to pick a side in the hoshidan-nohrian conflict she becomes a vagabond, later the rebuilt kingdom of valla. close friends. aqua, felicia, lilith. i want to say jakob too, but he makes her very uncomfortable nowadays... relationship status. verse dependent, but typically single. she will not get romantically involved with anyone in the birthright or conquest timelines. the pain of losing that relationship to a timeline reset and the other party not remembering anything of it is too painful for her to bear. financial status. despite being a princess of two ( three, really ) kingdoms, not very wealthy thanks to her decision to remain neutral. driver’s license. in modern verses, yes. jakob might act as a chauffeur, though... i don’t think much about modern aus tbh. criminal record. "treason”, if you want to consider refusing to pick a side in a war treason. xander and ryouma sure did. plays it straight in birthright or conquest, given she is picking a side there.
SEX & ROMANCE.
sexual orientation. pansexual. romantic orientation. panromantic. preferred emotional role. submissive | dominant | switch | unsure I equal preferred sexual role. submissive |  dominant  | switch | sex repulsed libido. this is a sfw blog, so we’re done talking about this. turn ons. kindness & intelligence. tends to gravitate towards people she feels she can take care of, perhaps out of a desperate desire to “do something right”, but also has a weakness for ‘knights in shining armour’. turn offs. being an irredeemable dick. that’s... honestly it. if you’re not the best person out there but you’re willing to put in the work to better yourself as a person, she’ll give you a chance. she also finds jakob’s almost obsessive devotion incredibly off-putting and scary, though that’s more a problem specific to him. love language. words of affirmation, acts of service, physical touch in the case of family or a significant other only. relationship tendencies. a little too self-sacrificing and slow to lower her walls, but incredibly affectionate and loyal. has difficulty accepting that her significant other actually does love her, however, due to the trauma she has endured... or that she even deserves the affection to begin with. but she will still move mountains for them.
MISCELLANEOUS.

New prompt! What would Jakob's last words to each of his family members be?
Aw, this is so sad. I love it! I'm going to write this as if he's dying from old age because I have some final words planned out between Corrin and Jakob for that already... I had an idea a few weeks ago that I never actually finished so...The old man lay in bed, his face wrinkled and weathered from his years. The laugh lines around his mouth and the crows feet near his eyes were proof of the happy life he'd led as a husband, father and ruler. His skin was thin and nearly translucent, clinging to his bones and veins.  Dull white hair hung to his abdomen and matched the thinning beard on his jaw.Corrin sat in a chair near his bed, clinging to one of his hands, watching his shallow breathing and hoping he could hold on until their sons arrived. The years had aged the queen as well, but her dragon blood left her showing her age less. Her red hair had dulled and was peppered with grey, her skin was wrinkled, her frame was thin and bony but like her husband, she wore the signs of a long and happy life.A choked cough broke from his dry lips, shaking his entire body. "Jakob!" the queen leaned forward, gripping his hand harder "I'll call the healer!"His lips turned up in a gentle smile "No, my love." he his head toward, holding her still in his gaze "No, we've prolonged this for too long as it is. It's time.""But, I -""Darling, I can't do it anymore. I'm tired, my body is tired. Even if we stopped it now, it would only be a few more weeks and we'd be back here again." he rubbed his thumb along her hand "It's going to be okay."She nodded "I understand. I do, it's just so hard."A knock at the door pulled her attention away from her husband "Yes?"The door opened, a servant stood in the doorway "Your highness, your sons are requesting-""It isn't a request." Dwyer snapped as he shoved past the servant, pulling his younger brother along with him.Kana, who had already been crying, let out a strange muffled scream as he took in the sight of his dying father lying under a heavy blanket in the dimly lit room.Jakob's eyes fell closed, a smile playing on his mouth"Do I look that bad?" he teased, his voice airy and hoarse."You've looked better, father." the elder prince answered, trying to keep his father in his playful mood, it had been so long since he'd been well enough to act this way.The old man smirked "I've felt better as well." he let out another strangled cough, wheezing hard as he fought to inhale a breath "I take it you know why your mother called you here.""We do." Kana choked through his tears."Then you know I don't expect to make it much longer."They both nodded, unsure of what to say."Kana." the dying man rasped "Come here."The younger man stepped toward his father. Jakob reached out, weakly grasping his youngest child's hand. The snowy haired prince began to whimper "Papa.""My Kana-bean." he smiled as he patted the man's hand "I am so proud of you and everything you've become. You are an amazing person with a pure heart and you deserve all the happiness you give to everyone else." Jakob pulled the prince into a firm embrace "I never told you enough, but I love you my precious son. Never forget how much you meant to me.""Dad. I love you." he managed to get out through his intense sobbing. Kana pressed his forehead to his father's "I love you. Please don't go.""Kana, I love you. But you know I can't do this forever, son." He stroked his son's hair softly "Now, let me talk to your brother."The younger man stepped away and nearly ran to his mother, she pulled him into her arms and cradled him against as if he were a child again, though he now towered over his aging mother. "Shhhh" she soothed, rubbing his back as he cried into her shoulder.Dwyer inhaled deeply, trying to steady his breathing and fight off the tears he felt stinging his eyes. Watching his brother crumble was making this even harder. He crossed the room and pulled the chair his mother had been sitting in to the side of the bed, leaning over and laying one hand across his father's chest "Dad?""Dwyer..." he murmured as his eyes closed again "Dwyer, I have so much I need to say to you.""No, dad, don't worry about it. You just need to rest." he patted his father's chest lightly."No, I need to tell you before I can't anymore." he lifted his son's hand into his own "I know a death bed apology seems selfish, as if I'm doing it for my own peace of mind before I die, and maybe it is a little selfish. But, I can't allow you to live your life wondering if I ever loved you. Because I did, I loved you so much, Dwyer." he coughed heavily and again began to wheeze."Dad-""I was a terrible father. My biggest regret in my life is the way I treated you. I know as an arrogant young man, I told you I wasn't sorry. But I am. I'm so sorry." the old man began to cry, only worsening his already laboured breathing.Dwyer couldn't fight the tears anymore, sobbing along with his family "Dad, I know you are. I know.""I'm so sorry." he whimpered again "And I'm proud of you. I never told you that like I should've. You're ten times the man I was. You are kind and selfless and you're a wonderful husband and father and I know that when your time comes, you'll be the best King that Valla could ever have. When I'm gone, please, remember that I loved you. Even if I was an awful bastard my entire life, I loved you and I was proud of you."Dwyer lay his head on his father's chest and wept so hard that his body shook "Dad, I forgive you. I love you."Jakob lay a hand on his oldest son's head, easily running his finger's through his thick red hair "Bless you, Dwyer. I wish I  had been the father you boys deserved. But despite my shortcomings, you became the best men I've ever known. And I'm so proud." his breathing was shallow now, each inhale a desperate gasp. His eyes begin to lilt shut."Kana." Dwyer turned to his brother "We should go. Mom should be with dad when..." he choked on his words, exhaling raggedly as another sob escaped him.Kana nodded, returning to hug his father one last time, he leaned in "Dad, I love you. You were a good father, no matter what you think, you were a good dad in your own way. I'll miss you, papa." he began to silently cry as he walked out of the room, glancing back once more for the final glimpse he'd get of his father alive.Dwyer ran his hands through his dad's hair, kissing his forehead softly "Father, I love you. I always have, and I never doubted your love for me."Jakob smiled slightly at his sons as they left "You two were my world." he muttered.Corrin returned to her seat, watching the love of her life fight for air "Does it hurt?' she whispered, stroking his cheek."No more so than I usually feel." his smile faltered as he tried to comfort her."Is there anything I can do?" She begged. He tilted his head "Lay with me, as you did when we were young."She crawled into the plush bed beside him, careful not to jostle him "When we were young..." she laughed "It seems so long ago, doesn't it?"He nodded "It does. But I was lucky to spend my life with you and I enjoyed every moment of it."She leaned softly on his shoulder "What do I do without you? We've been together since we were children... I don't know how to live without you. For so long it's been us and I can't seem to separate me from you. I'm losing the love of my life and part of myself as well... I can't do this." she sobbed "I can't exist in a world without you."He managed a soft laugh, pressing his lips to her forehead, his beard rough on her thin skin "Now, that's not true. You were always too good for me. I needed you, but could and can go on without me. You are strong and brave and a fighter, my love. You can do this. You can.""I'll miss you. The thought of you not being here hurts so much that it takes my breath from me." she whispered, tears running down her cheeks, settling into the wrinkles of her skin."I know. But I'll always love you, and I'll always be with you. It's breaking my heart, I promised to be by your side for all your days and I couldn't accomplish that.""Jakob, don't be bothered by that. You were the most incredible husband for our entire lives. I will love you and miss you for the rest of my days.""I love you. Thank you, Corrin. For everything you did for me, for saving me, for loving me despite how terrible I was, for having our sons, for making my life as incredible as it was. You were my reason to live. You are part of me, and I am part of you, as such, my love; not even death could separate us."The old woman lay curled against her husband's side in the dim room, silently weeping as she was faced with his impending death. She counted his ragged breaths until sleep carried her away from him for the last time. The hazy light of morning awoke the queen, her arm still lay over her husband. He was cold to the touch, laying perfectly still, his eye's closed as if he were sleeping peacefully. Corrin pulled him into her arms, rocking him as she wept and cried his name until her sons arrived and gently pulled her away from him, from the only man she'd ever loved.
