Fun Fact
BuzzFeed published a report claiming that Tumblr was utilized as a distribution channel for Russian agents to influence American voting habits during the 2016 presidential election in Feb 2018.
Wow! We finally finished shooting a commissioned project thats big for us! We started it a couple months back and had to build 6 avatars from scratch as well as two separate sets! Then we had to shoot countless takes of footage and B-Roll. Being in a creative partnership with someone you are also in a romantic relationship with is quite interesting a dynamic. We had clashed many times along the way in the beginning and real life got in the way of the creative process for both of us in individual ways. We have had to learn a whole new level of patience and grace with one another that has really made the whole process all the more rewarding in the end.
It was actually much simpler than we were making it. The harder we pushed against each others particular creation style the slower the process was the harder it felt. When we just had patience and allowed things to flow naturally without too much judgement it was just exciting. Because we are not together physically its like filming with legit film in old school analog way because until its finished we can’t see all the footage that is being taken. Its put us into areas of trusting one another like no other thing can do. We have to trust in the individual vision and the collective vision we share.
Bae kept getting upset at me for cracking jokes and roasting the avatar he made, but I am proud that he has come such a long way in such a short time. I just get salty because I hope he doesn’t forget his teacher >_< but like they say, the student always surpasses the master, and It only shows how good of a teacher I am! lol Enough with my ego talking though, that avatar was so white it was hard af to light it correctly! We are going to have fun in post with that!
The set was the most fun to make but we had some crazy wars and battles with it! The landowners of a spot we were renting got so annoying and kind of discriminatory with us if you ask me. Completely deleted our platform and everything on it without warning.... while standing right in front of us and she could have just told us to gather it... Then they completely moved our plot to a new plot at which that point we decided to just leave and find a new land. That is one of the many delays we had while filming this... Lost my account at one point, got it back... had to start from scratch and DID! but that is what makes this final shooting day so wild and sweet. WE FRIGGEN MADE IT! WE FOUGHT HARD! LORDT KNOWWWWSSSSS!
I'm reading about how Israel, in the immediate aftermath of the 1948 Nakba, deliberately replaced olive trees and other indigenous flora with European plants. This ecological disaster, which is now proudly hailed under the banner of 'making the desert bloom,' was done to 'de-Arabize' the landscape, and to cover up - often with fast-growing European pine trees -the ruins of Palestinian villages that were destroyed by Zionists forces.
And I just need everyone to read this passage from Pappé, because the symbolism of what happened to those European pine trees in the desert speaks for itself:
The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, by Ilan Pappé (2006, p. 227-228.)
In Plagiarism and You(Tube), Hbomb says "If you consider something so obscure you can get away with stealing it, you do not respect it." Save that line for the next time someone tries to tell you that Roy Lichtenstein brought respect to comics as art.
It's since been pointed out that while Lichtenstein did copy one of Russ Heath's drawings of an airplane getting hit, the painting depicted above was actually copied off Irv Norvick, because Lichtenstein did this so many times to so many comic artists.
In Lichtenstein's defense, he was doing this in a time when comic artists frequently weren't even credited in the issues themselves. In his condemnation, he never even tried to check, nor has he made any move to pay or credit any of the comic artists who recognized their own work later on. Rather than elevating the "low art" of comics, he was widening the gap of financial success and respect even further.
The Hbomberguy of this story is art historian David Barsalou, who has now spent decades tracking down the original art and the names of the original artists used in Lichtenstein's most famous output. Here's the flickr gallery for the Deconstructing Roy Lichtenstein project. Frequently copied were Tony Abruzzo, Ted Galindo, Mike Sekowsky, Joe Kubert, Jerry Grandenetti, and dozens more Golden Age artists who aren't very well known in comics circles, let alone art history books. Many of them died in poverty. That's something that the Hero Initiative, mentioned in Russ Heath's comic above, aims to prevent.
Also, Lichtenstein didn't even paint Ben-Day dots. That's a specific thing.
Different character: I have no interest in romance or sex. I don't understand it. Relationships confuse me. They seem pointless to me. I have no desire to be in a romantic or sexual relationship. I am an aromantic asexual.
Fandom: well, I guess you can interpret them as aroace...I don't see it though.
Wow, just wow. @somerandomdudelmao, your series was incredible. I only found your comic in July and I didn’t become an active tumblr user/follower till September, but I’m so glad I got to watch this project come to a close. The ROTTMNT fandom wouldn’t be the same without you and your comic. You’ve inspired so many people, including me, and I just want to say thank you, Cass. Thank you for making my year a little bit brighter. Thank you for reigniting my love of art. Thank you for creating. Thank you for existing.
You’re no longer just some random dude lmao. You’re the creature who fixed the apocalypse, the creature who brought together thousands of people and built a family. A family of turtles and fans.
In honor of C.A.S I wanted to color and animate the final panel of the comic. Im still learning color theory and digital art but you’ve inspired me to improve, and what better way to start than with the end? It was a beautiful ending, so perfectly paced and full of a peaceful hope twinged with a bittersweet sadness. Your comic might be done, but this turtle family will live on forever.
Now go take a well-deserved nap and relish in your success!
