Art Exhibition review: Ajyal Exhibition
Tumblr media
This is a review of the art exhibition Ajyal that was opened on the 30th of April at the Bahraini women’s monument Athar. This gallery is supposed to represent the diversity of art and artists through generations in Bahrain. It is run by the Bahrain Art Society. How ever the gallery wasn’t limited to Bahraini Artists only, it included other nationalities.
There are many well known names amongst the artists participating here, naturally because the Bahrain Art Society is The Sponsor. One of which, Adnan AL Ahmed, who presented his infamous style with a bit of a masculine twist this time. His style I’d describe to be his own twist on cubism. The same firm clean look you’d come to expect from a typical cubist but with some streamlined shapes where the mostly female figures would be. His work in this exhibition is called (I and the storm, oil on canvas) which features a male figure but also a dynamic balanced composition that portraits an emotional scene, which the artist is no stranger to.
Another well known name is Abbas Almosawi, who presented (deers in the wild, acrylic on canvas) and (horses in the desert, acrylic on canvas) which are his typical landscape impressionism that needs no introduction. Brilliant understanding of color with the vibrant and lively shades and tones that provide high contrast and visual interest. The delicate well calculated brushstrokes that bring texture, like the texture of the sand hills that feels so real. Both works have a focal point on the animals but upon drifting away from that point you will have a pleasant journey through the lines of the painting guiding you back where you were, such strong composition.
Tumblr media
Nabeela Alkhayyer is another landscape artist but far more abstractionist. She presents gorgeous bodies of water with a lot of creative ways. She creates the waves of the water with gesso on the canvas and lets the cracks and rips happen as the primer dries, and the results are unique and eye catching.  She also manages to pull us in further with the saturated pallets of blues and greens for the vast spaces of water, and the casual oranges and reds to break the pattern every once in a while. In total we get an image of the body of water but through a unique lens that adds the emotion to the scene.
Mariam Bukhamsin had 2 paintings on display. Both acrylic on canvas and tackle the subject of a female figure in space. Such a simple idea but with addition of other elements like a spiral or other floating objects gives movement and dynamics and the effect of floating. The usage of the light sources balances the composition and provides a strong focal point as well.
The work of Jamal Alyousif Is truly captivating. I am not an expert on sculptures but (emergence II, stainless steel) pulled my eyes with its duality. The idea of movement and freedom something so dynamic and stream lined is being represented buy a stiff material that looks like prison bars. Despite that the human figure has a great deal of dynamics that peak through those angular shapes and forms.
Tumblr media
Over all, I personally think that there is a great deal of diversity in art styles in this gallery. How ever it leans more towards the more modern and contemporary art styles. While there are artist that chose to portrait more traditional subject matter it was done through a current style like the artist Abdullah  Almuharraqi  and Herz Albanki.

The difference between my color schemes for my original characters vs the Dream SMP is wild. I tend to do different color schemes/atmospheres between different works normally, so I just did the same with the DSMP but my DSMP art is so odd to me because of how vibrant the colors are.
Generally, with my usual art, I stuck to either monochromes or pastels for that kind of “faded storybook” aesthetic. Litheliun was very much just that, and I even used water stained parchment texture over a lot of it. rM was like old portraits, while Secret was a bit more like overdeveloped photos. GoC was the brightest, but it was black and white with pops of color, like a cyber aesthetic.
I use a lot of high saturated contrasting colors in my DSMP art, mostly because I was using it as an experimental coloring style. It’s very bright. I like it a lot.

Hey, do you have anything on how to describe bodies? :D
Some Tips on How to Describe Bodies
Tumblr media
Bodies can be really hard to get right. Humans have got to be one of the most complicated things to describe, since we come in such a variety! Unless you’re an identical twin, no one person looks exactly the same.
Describing bodies has a lot to do with timing and putting the important things first, while spreading out the rest over the course of your story to piece together more and more of your character like a jigsaw puzzle. Though this can seem like a daunting task, I’ve provided you with a list of tips and tricks that can help you out!
1. Don’t dump all your information in one go
Tumblr media
Info-dumping about how your character looks the moment they walk through the door isn’t going to go over well for the rhythm and the pacing of your story, and will completely interrupt the flow.
Think about what you FIRST see when you meet someone.
Your attention is drawn to their face, their body, their clothes, or any distinguishing characteristics— it isn’t automatically drawn to a small birth mark on their neck that looks like a skull. Even though it’s super cool and might be a very important aspect of your character, it’s a small detail, and noticing things like that usually comes later during conversation, when you’re sizing people up and trying to get a read on their personality.
When you get a glimpse of a painting at a museum, the first thing you is the picture it’s making, and only when you get closer and start to analyze it, you begin to see all the individual brush strokes. That’s what a first impression is like.
Things You Can Describe During a First Impression:
Hair color/hair style
Age
Skin color
Height
Body type (Willowy, stout, muscular, scrawny, round, etc.)
Clothing (You can find my post on how to describe clothing here)
Assistive devices they may have if they’re disabled
Any distinguishable characteristics (scars, acne, tattoos, horns, wings, etc.)
(Note: Eye color is NOT on this list for a reason! Think about your friends and family. Do you even know what color eyes they have? Eye color is should only be described if it’s distinct, like red or completely demonic black or glowing, etc.)
2. Weave It Into Your Narrative
Tumblr media
I didn’t want to say “show don’t tell” because I hate saying that on every single post I make........but yeah, it’s basically show don’t tell.
Using association to describe your character will work a lot more effectively after the first impression than a huge paragraph shoving details in your reader’s face, and it’ll also help you reveal certain aspects of your character’s personality on top of that!
Some examples you can use for association:
Your character’s hair sheds a lot. People find [color/texture] hair all over the place.
Your character runs their fingers through/plays with/twirls their [color/texture] hair.
Your character gets sick/injured and their [color/texture] hair is falling out.
Your POC character is wearing Black hairstyles, such as cornrows, locs, twists, etc.
Your POC character is the Vice President of the [Race] Student Union at school.
Your POC character has several aspects from their culture that affects their daily lives.
Your POC character experiences a microaggression.
Your white character can “go pale” or “white as a sheet” when they’re surprised or scared.
Sweat can glisten on your character’s [color] skin.
Get creative! There are more ways to inadvertently describe how people look than you think!
3. Educate Yourself
Tumblr media
Make sure the words you use to describe someone’s body isn’t going to make anyone upset or offended! Hurtful language can be very off-putting, especially for communities that don’t get much representation in books.
Try your best to avoid stereotyping, and if you’re worried about it, don’t hesitate to ask someone! Tumblr has a very vibrant user population, and I know many blogs that would be happy to help!
For reference, here are some pitfalls that you should make sure you don’t fall into when describing bodies
1. Comparing the skin tones of POC to food (i.e. mocha, chocolate, coffee, etc.)
This makes many POC very uncomfortable and is rooted in the constant hypersexualization of POC in books. Don’t shy away from the word brown! It’s a widely accepted descriptor, and definitely more widely accepted than food comparisons. However, brown can be vague (since a color can come in all different shades), so make sure you specify! Don’t be wishy-washy.
Check out @writingwithcolor‘s FAQ!! It’s a big help.
2. Describing Black hair textures as “kinky,” “wild,” “unkempt,” “wooly,” or “nappy”
These descriptors automatically put a negative connotation on the appearance of natural Black hair, so steer clear!
3. Reverting to white as default
This is when you describe all of the skin tones of your POC characters but don’t describe the skin tones of your white characters. In doing this, you’re making white the default, and that your readers should automatically assume a character is white unless it’s stated otherwise.
4. Describing a character as ugly or unattractive just because they don’t meet unrealistic body type expectations
This is a big no-no! Imagine you’re reading a book and the author insults someone who looks just like you, claiming that because of how much they weigh/how their face or nose is shaped/ how they have a disability that they’re ugly! Imagine how much that would hurt your self-esteem. Be nice!!!
5. Describing boobs an unnecessary amount
I’m looking at you, men. Sure, if your character is wearing a very low-cut shirt and wants people to see their boobs, then fine. If your narrator is flirty and hyper-sexual, than maybe I’ll let it slide. If they’re meeting under promiscuous circumstances, then okay.
But if your character is just meeting a woman under normal circumstances, don’t describe her boobs! Don’t spend more than just a quick sentence and go on and on for paragraphs talking about their shape and size and UGH. Stop sexualizing women’s bodies please, and stop sexualizing girls and minors, too, or I’ll steal your kneecaps.
6. Do your research before writing characters from a group that you’re not a part of!
Hope this helped, and happy writing!

How to Use Descriptive Writing
Credit: http://www.glimmertrain.com/bulletins/essays/b113geni.php
Intro
Every story exists somewhere between the writer's imagination and the reader's imagination. So, finding the right balance of description is critical. Good description sketches a clear picture but does not fill in every single detail. It builds and deepens the reality of the story in vibrant ways, but also leaves room for the reader to imagine some of the features and qualities of the world. This work invests the reader in the story and allows them to claim and connect with the story, and even be a partner in creating it!
Know your setting well
Place is essential to any story. It defines the scope of your characters' actions—where they go, what they feel and see and hear and taste and touch, how large an effect they have on the world around them, how many people they interact with, how rich and full their lives are. Make intentional choices about your setting. Urban or rural? Beautiful or ugly? Familiar or unknown? Safe or perilous? Interesting or dull? Spacious or cramped? Bright or dark? Pleasant or off-putting? The setting defines the size and shape of the story.
Be specific
Once you've chosen a setting, be specific about its nature. Your setting should never seem vague or half-imagined. Some writers will draw landscape maps. Some will create a layout for the house in which their characters live. If your story takes place outdoors, be aware of the terrain, the season of the year, the foliage, the weather, the color and texture of the sky. If your story takes place indoors, be aware of the architecture, the kind of furniture, the feel and layout of the room, the amount and quality of light, the smell of the air. This doesn’t mean you have to describe all these elements in detail, but the more aware you are of your setting, the more you’ll be able to capture it and integrate it into the story!
Remember to use all five senses
Many writers have a "default sense" that they use reflexively when writing description. (For most of us, this is vision. A lot of writers will describe what things look like and stop there.) Pay attention to what "default sense" you may use, and try to break out of the habit whenever possible. Smell, in particular, can be incredibly evocative when written well. Think about temperature, ambient sounds, the feel of the ground, and the taste of the air as well.
Emotion and action
Description can echo and enhance the mood of a story. There's a reason so many love scenes take place in the wild crush of pouring rain. Your use of description can heighten, alter, or mirror what your characters are feeling. The same interaction will seem different if it happens in a labyrinthine mansion or a dark alley or a children's playground. If two characters are having a terrible fight, placing them in a tight, claustrophobic room will heighten the tension, while placing them in an open, breezy field will defuse it. A coming storm creates the sensation of foreboding. Heat slows the story down. A cold breeze chills the reader too. Think about how your descriptions can affect the emotion and action of the story.
Characters
It is as important to describe your characters as it is to describe the setting. Physicality makes these people real to the reader. Make sure you know what your characters look like and that your descriptions are consistent.
When describing your characters, reconsider hair and eye color, as well as height and weight--these are still significant, but they can also be repetitive. Think, instead, about more complex descriptors. Consider your characters' gestures, the shape of their facial features, their gait, their dimples, their scars, the way they laugh, the quality of their teeth, their stance, their fashion sense, their odor, their vocal tone, etc.
Think in terms of "telling details": details that let the reader see your characters while also revealing something about their minds. In this way, your descriptions can do double duty: giving the reader a physical picture while also showing an inner, mental trait.
Vary the length of your sentences
If you favor long, winding, complex sentences, remember that too much of this style can overwhelm and exhaust the reader. Take a break and include shorter sentences every so often. If, on the other hand, you prefer brief, choppy, staccato sentences, remember that too much of this sort of prose can seem breathless and frantic. Take a break and include a long, dreamy sentence every now and then to calm the reader down.
Dialogue and description
Description can be particularly useful when writing dialogue. If your characters are conversing for a long time, they can start to seem disembodied. The reader may lose track of who's talking or forget the physical space that holds the characters. It's important to include imagery and description at regular intervals to ground the characters' voices in reality. A paragraph of description can slow down a ping-pong interaction and quiet an intense and heated interaction. It can give the reader a beat to take in some new information. It can add nuance and nonverbal subtlety to the characters, shading and enhancing what they're saying.
Finding a balance
Too much description can bog down a story, but not enough can have the opposite effect, making the characters seem weightless and detached from reality. However, this is something to think about only during the process of revision: you shouldn’t worry about it while actively writing something new. When it comes to description, finding the right balance will take time, space, and the clarity of mind that comes from editing a finished piece, not creating a new one. While you're actively writing, don't worry about whether you're using too much or too little description. Feel free to try things and make mistakes! When in doubt, write more description than you think you'll need. You can always take things out afterward.

Here, we have a look at 40 nail designs in modern 2020 style that are both beautiful and youthful, can be used to go out, go to work.

For girls who love to draw simple but still stand out, this will be a suggestion for them. However, if you want to catch the right color trend, choose to combine more coral orange tones so that it is harmonious and eye-catching. You know, the color trends every year change more or less. Obviously, when people themselves are probably bored with a color gamut that is in full use throughout the year, finding a new and different color is like blowing a new breath of style. The girls add more prominence and charm in their beautiful manicure
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girls_(TV_series)

Choosing paint color according to skin tone will prevent her from getting dull skin error due to choosing the wrong nail color. There are certain guidelines for choosing a good nail model based on skin color
For a long time, "sparkling" fingers are a luxurious and seductive style that many girls love. More than ever, hands with iridescent lacquer or sequin will help you shine in every party literally and figuratively. However, the "inlaid" glittering glitter on all 10 fingers now seems a bit out of date. Korea's trend of sparkling nail polish only covers the shimmer and part of the finger sequin to create a slight patchiness. At the same time, the combination of multicolored beads gives you a more natural and youthful nail look
The gentle beauty is chosen by many women because of the gentle colors that show the feminine charm. This nail pattern is perfect for girls with deep, temperate personality. very suitable for coordinating costumes as well as makeup. With diverse designs, many colors, sparkling stones are dotted on the nails to create great appeal and great attraction for the user. Her luxurious and seductive looks will be beautifully adorned by these nail designs.
Inherently, these environments require politeness, courtesy in style, so finding a beautiful nail model when going to school is also limited a lot. Accordingly, the most suitable models should have simple designs and colors such as single-color paint, ombre or if you want to be a little fresh, you can choose simple nail designs to create highlights.
In particular, during the hot days of beautiful beauty to welcome this New Year, girls let the gentle beauty have the opportunity to shine, typically like "buying" a coral orange lipstick. Or not, "change to new clothes" for more beautiful nails with coral orange is also a not bad suggestion at all. Obviously, for the discerning ladies, there is nothing more fun than having a shimmering nail trim and paint, especially on special occasions like Tet.
For those of you with skinny fingers and brittle, brittle nails, you should keep this round. This is a very beautiful nail model suitable for girls who want to maintain short nails because of the nature of the work. The advantage of the round foundation is that it has no corners, so it is difficult to break and does not get caught in the work
We need to find out, what is nail polish? Literally it is a compound that contains many chemicals to create "color boxes" that have the ability to color up to beautify the hand nails more prominent and more attractive. There are two types of nail polish: regular nail polish and gel nail polish
In addition to using pure brown skin tones for your nails, you can also combine them with other colors and combine a little more shape to have a satisfactory nail set, not boring. Pattern painted patterns are simple but not monotonous. Don't be afraid to dotted your hands with impromptu textures and colors, you will definitely look outstanding and impressive.
Helps overcome short nail shortcomings to bring luxurious and mysterious beauty to girls. This is a great nail polish to appear at parties, or to school and hang out. She does not like to be fussy and too "confused", she can choose gentle coral orange tones for her nails. At the same time, a little emphasis with gold paint will make your "claws" become more attractive and outstanding.
This is also a nail shape similar to sharp nails but is modified to look more pregnant, preferable to those with short fingers, but this shape makes the fingers look quite weak so it is easy to break. If you prefer a lighter feel, don't skip pastel pink. This color gamut is both sweet, gentle, and a bit classic and romantic. Just that much is enough to make this pink tone beat her down in cold weather
Animal skin texture is one of the classic trends in a sexy and wild look. After a long "hibernation" period, the "leopard pieces" come back to stir not only from the runway floors but also in the beauty field. By harmoniously blending wildlife skin details with Korean-style color patches and stones, you will have a beautiful, delicate nail set than ever.
The atmosphere is gradually turning to summer and have you been able to update your seasonal fashion style? Try applying these beautiful nail designs for summer below to become even hotter. At the same time, the color when used should be monochrome, not too vibrant to avoid causing objection to the opposite person. Usually, the most popular colors are gentle colors such as white, pale pink, and beige, so when painted on, it will bring a very delicate and luxurious beauty to the hands.
If you like to adorn your nails with elaborate patterns, this will be the perfect suggestion for girls. Because the coral orange color is quite prominent, the designs that are not too colorful and complicated will make her nails look more fashionable and luxurious. girls who like the classic always choose this style. You must often decorate the surface of the nail with color paint or draw patterns because bare hands will be very offensive.
Although you really love the sweet, romantic color this tone brings, you are afraid it will not match the color of your hand skin. Don't worry, this is a color that doesn't pick your hands off, just adjust the color tone a little to suit your skin tone. Nail patterns are nothing strange to women, but modern girls always default nail styles that look pretty "cheesy". However, studded in Korean style will change your mind
Vibrant and vibrant beauty will bring you exciting summer colorful experiences. If the nail designs for partying, everyday life tend to create simple colors and accentuate the motifs are somewhat fussy, the patterns for the beach season will be a real breakthrough. About the color gamut that creates a lovely and lovely nail set
The girls who love the youthful, leisurely style will surely be "taken in" by these funny nail patterns at first sight. These can be nail designs drawn from cartoon characters like Doraemon, Minions, Pokemon or cute chibi drawings.
Not confident with pure coral orange, she can also choose red tone paint colors. At the same time, to add highlights to the nail, let's incorporate a few more finger to draw the patchy stone. Guarantee just like that is also very pretty.
Choose neutral colors instead of bold colors for sharp nail polish or you will be older and more intense than other nails. This nail model is best suited for girls with short fingers. Like tan tan leather, deep red wine color is always her first choice when the weather turns cold. It brings warmth but equally luxury and power. This is an extremely suitable color for a year-end party, especially for Christmas
Simple beautiful nails with diverse designs, many colors, sparkling stones are dotted on the nails to create great appeal and attraction for the user. Her luxurious and seductive looks will be adorned in a very subtle way. With this model, you can comfortably party or appear anywhere
nude, light pink, or white are chosen by many beauties. This is the color tone for girls who like a gentle style, not necessarily becoming the focus of attention. The nude or pale pink nail pattern is loved by the office ladies and chosen by the gentle, subtle beauty that is not too prominent, and trendy and not out of date
Combined with a variety of fancy colors combined with attractive shapes, summer seascape with coconut trees, trees, sky, birds and trees all contribute to creating a living picture. on the hands of each person. In addition, the paint colors that are often used to paint nails are usually colorful and prominent colors to help bring a youthful, playful look to the girlfriend. With this beautiful nail pattern, you can pair with clothes with a little light color
Or not, blow a new wind for their nails with their zodiac patterns. The combination of super trendy drawing fingers and ombre fingers will definitely make your hands stand out. As a combination of two square and oval nails, the Squoval style is stronger than the oval nail and is slimmer and more feminine than the square nail. This style is also suitable for all shapes of fingers because of its moderate length and rounded corners.
Traditional red wine is always a classic color when autumn and winter come. For women with white skin, do not miss this charming beautiful nail. There won't be a guy who can take his eyes off those beautiful hands. Look best on nails of moderate length, square nails, or light pedicures. In particular, you should stay away from neon colors if you have classic long, pointed nails because your hands will look scary if you combine neon colors with long nails.
Bring you good luck and is becoming a hot color chosen by many women. Try decorating your hands with this color and striking soft motifs. When Tet is coming, the women go back to refurbish their nails to catch up with the coming Tet atmosphere. The most popular patterns such as cherry blossoms, apricot blossoms, red color make women's nails more prominent and attractive.
Who said that only girls "banh beo" could create the momentum for their ivory hands? In fact, girls with strong personalities can still freely express their personalities through these beautiful nail designs. Having to play with all 10 coral orange fingers, she can "turn" the normalized slippery nails with white emulsion and top paint. In addition, the small metal details will definitely make your nails look much more stylish
Like its name, pointed but at the top has a square shape, looks like a pair of ballet shoes, this design is more suitable for luxury ladies and older people than young people because of demand. its wondrous and elaborate. You can recommend this "classy" nail pattern to your mom or aunt
If dark green has become a hot trend color this summer, it will be trendy until this autumn-winter time. is a comfortable and eye-catching combination. Adding a little ingenious combination with nail styles like gradient paint or ombre will make your hands not only unique but also help to pop up your skin tone.
Black nail designs bring personality and mystery to its owner. This is a great choice for parties and you can add a touch of color such as iridescent colors or nail polish. There are so many Hollywood female stars seen with this nail color, rock stars love it. Don't forget that black nails work best for short cut nails
Usually, individual girls will be more rational than emotions, so flying, dreamy images will not make them fall in love. Depending on the aesthetic of each person, most of the individual girls will be easily "fascinated" by logical, angular images such as zigzag-shaped, triangular nails or coated nails. unique mirror
Not fussy but still extremely outstanding, that is when she mixes orange with other basic colors like white or cream white. Half-nail varnish combines metal studded nails, this style is sure to make her nails look extremely unique. Easier in operation and suitable for girls who want longer fingers while still retain a youthful look
Like wine red, navy blue is also a classic nail model, always loved by beauty believers. This is a neutral color that is suitable for both winter and summer but perhaps this color will be more perfect in the cold of winter. Classic black is never out of style. Red is great for girls who have white hands, or have brown hands. Helping you create a strong impression of luxury, nobility and strong personality
These are gentle and elegant feminine colors that many girls love. Possessing a pink nail pattern will help you become softer and easier to combine makeup to go to school, go out or work. Depending on the different circumstances, the girls can choose different to suit. Especially, when attending a party, you have to become more sparkling and outstanding than ever
It's okay not to attach metal, but change the style of paint so that a beautiful nail pattern is not too boring. The style of paint splits like this is not new, but every time you paint on your nails, the girls will surely have to nod. A neutral color gamut for girls who love trendy fashion. If you have picky skin, this is a great choice.

Can you tell me what DA:O mods you use? I'm interested to play it, but I know it probably plays better when modded.
Hey there! If you’re playing DA:O for the first time, I recommend that you use only Qwinn’s Ultimate Dragon Age: Origins Fixpack on your first playthrough so you can experience Bioware’s vision (with a ton of bugs fixed).
That said, you’re here for mod recs, so let’s take a look at the mods I use.
A quick note: These mods cater to my personal tastes, enhancing the gameplay experience and graphics without making wild lore-unfriendly changes. I’m generally not a fan of companion edits, but there are of course many of those available if that’s to your taste. I also like to tone down the sexualisation of female outfits. YMMV on these mods.
My favourite mods are very spoilery so I won’t list them here, but I still have a lot to recommend! Under a cut for length.

Combat Tweaks v323 (I personally haven’t used this one yet, but it’s quite popular so it’s worth listing here)
OTHER
Awakening Abilities for Origins (I do not recommend using this on your first playthrough as it will most definitely break the game’s difficulty—some Awakening skills are very powerful even in the Awakening campaign, and are hilariously OP in the original campaign. But what can I say, I really want my Arcane Warrior/Battlemage combo in the OC XD)
Hope that helps and I hope you enjoy DA:O if you decide to play it!

Exactly How Does Horticulture Soothe Stress?
One of my favorite tasks is working in my yard; it is additionally a vibrant place to meditate, frequently checked out by numerous winged and four-legged creatures. Remaining in nature, touching the dirt and producing a living landscape is recovery in such a way that resembles absolutely nothing else. The very scent of the dirt, the textures of the barks as well as foliage of eco-friendly plants, the aromatic blossoms, all are an artwork that is calming to the spirit. Horticulture is an imaginative job, done in magnificent 3-D. The pallette you need to collaborate with consists of textures, colors, shapes, appears and also scents. You can grow for wild animals, or for butterflies. Rain yards are a lovely method to deal with drainage from the roof covering, while reenergizing the local groundwater level as opposed to sending out rain down the city drain system. Provided, all this might not work for you if you don't like horticulture. Even if you like the concept of horticulture, as well as possibly have some experience or helped your mommy or grandma in the garden when you were a kid, it is necessary that it not be a task. The most convenient very first blunder is to take on as well much, as well as locate that as opposed to being a tension relief you are worried since the objectives you set are impractical. Rather than end up with a stressful obligation that has actually come to be overwhelming, it is much better to enjoy a potted plant or a single container garden on the patio area, or a hanging planter or 2 by the pathway to welcome you with their joyful color, than to stress out over a large yard that has gone to weeds due to absence of readily available time. Maintain it simple, begin small ... Or even, begin tiny, even indoors with a little terrarium, or a potted team of cactus. One plant that I think about crucial to keep in your home is an aloe plant. It is durable, does not mind indoors as lengthy as the moisture does not obtain as well low, and also is a wonderful medicinal herb for minor burns, scratches and also swellings. One more fun concept, especially if you enjoy to cook, is to keep a little home window natural herb yard. To find out more on expanding your very own kitchen herbs, look into the Organic Gardening website with a wonderful website on expanding herbs indoors. A yard is a way to connect with nature, to slow down as well as remain in the minute, and restore a sense of self in the sound as well as rush of the modern-day urban atmosphere. Leave the phone and various other noisemakers as well as disturbances inside. Obtain a break from computer displays, TELEVISION displays, hand-held gadget displays as well as unwind your gaze to take in a larger sight. If you've ever before experienced chastisement in school from indulging in the easy satisfaction of looking out the home window at gorgeous clouds, you understand what I suggest. My thing is all-natural locations remediation; I am a member of a not-for-profit group that is functioning to set aside all-natural areas for wild animals environment. We restore these locations as close as possible to their pre-settlement problem, with native plants as well as tidy waterways. Naturally, as soon as the native plant neighborhood returns, the wild animals shows up in wealth. You might take pleasure in producing an ecological community in your yard that not just features indigenous plants, yet will certainly bring in wild animals such as jeopardized butterflies, dragonflies, and birds. The National Wild animals Federation site has excellent info on exactly how to produce wildlife environment in your yard or community. Again, be sensible as well as take points in tiny bites; this is a process. If nothing else, nature motivates us to reduce, take our time to appreciate. Take on too much and also we soon fall into stress and also stress and anxiety over approximate, ultimately unsatisfying objectives that we have established for ourselves. You recognize what Pogo stated, "We have actually satisfied the opponent as well as he is us". If you stay in an apartment or condo as well as don't have yard area, you may want to take into consideration participating with the local neighborhood yard - or begin one. The regional neighborhood or community yard can also provide, if you desire, an opportunity to appreciate the benefit of social interaction. Gardening supplies a sense of accomplishment - that is, if we've not overwhelmed ourselves with too much to look after. Not only that, but there is fantastic satisfaction in growing our own vegetables, fruits and fresh herbs. There is no fruit or veggie in the grocery store, nonetheless much money is paid, that will certainly compare with your home-grown, lovingly looked after veggie. Regardless of that it might be a straightforward container-grown cherry tomato. For a fantastic article on the very best tomatoes for container expanding, take a look at what Colleen Vanderlinden needs to state, based upon her individual experience. There is even a motion called "geo-sense" horticulture coming out of Europe. The concept is to make home gardens to give stress and anxiety relief. The practice has deep origins, according to a post by Dr. Leonard P. Perry, Expansion Professor at the College of Vermont. The ancient yards of terrific worlds of Egypt, Persia and also China were designed to bring nature into their city atmospheres. Dr. Perry's article has concepts to include into your yard to make it a setting - a small environment - that is designed for tranquility. In typical Japan, the yard was an expression of Zen ideology. In a post on the Japanese Garden internet site, Dr. Koichi Kawana discusses the philosophy behind typical Japanese yard design. The Valuable Gardener web site is another excellent internet site explains the conventional Japanese Garden, and its underlying Zen approach. The yard, whether it is a huge plot or a simple mini ecosystem in a container, embodies numerous points; spiritual philosophy, connectedness with nature, a living imaginative development, being grounded with our hands literally in the dirt, expanding and also offering ourselves and also liked ones with our very own exceptional food. All these things are the bounty that nature supplies - openly provided, asking for simply a little touch of loving hands. If you appreciate horticulture, tell us about your experiences, and also whether or not you find gardening to be loosening up. Do you discover it an obstacle to discover the moment you wish to work in the yard? Have you been challenged by trying to do excessive? Just how do you balance the satisfaction with the job required to keep your garden healthy? Are you an "au natural" garden enthusiast, or do you favor a neat and also organized layout? Does it appear to bring you closer to nature, or perhaps to an introspective, spiritual experience? A number of us that consider horticulture organically, appear to have images of bearded human warriors who will dedicate their entire life to working on their veggie yards. This maybe a fantastic method for somebody to live, but for the ordinary person, this possibly rather difficult. Especially when you work in the factors such as having job, and having a home mortgage to pay off. When you grow food, several see it as an ability, simply put the tend to linked it with either a lot of work, or a type of art. Suppose there was a technique that was very easy to utilize, as well as gives those who lead a hectic life, an opportunity to expand vegetables in their yard. Alternate horticulture, may simply be the option to those that may not have the moment to expand a veggie garden. This is a practical, contemporary method of making as well as creating a vegetable story. There are a few changes that you will need to make in order to utilize this gardening approach. These approaches will ultimately alter the means you do your gardening and also grow your vegetables. The method alternative horticulture is various is for one, you will need to grow a great deal more plants right into your yard to fill the rooms. The 2nd component is, you will certainly never ever have to collect any dirt. The third component is, you will need to boost your degree of composting that you will make use of in your garden, because composting is a vital part in making this type of gardening work. Once you take on these approaches, you will certainly start to discover remarkable changes within your yard. One of these adjustments that you will certainly discover is that the garden will start to take a type of its own. Your weeds will stop appearing as well as ruin your garden, and also your plants will certainly start to live for a lot longer. Your plants will certainly likewise call for less water, thanks to transforming your garden into an alternative gardening system, as well as you will probably be collecting practically everyday of the year. Knowing exactly how this works, is all based on science, and also the technique utilized as by environmentalist. What you will certainly discover, when implementing the strategies made use of for this style of horticulture is that utilizing scientific research in your technique of building and also producing plants, is the best way to create as well as grow plants. This method has actually been adopted by producing a community that is comprised of plants that are edible. This plants that are now in this environment will react and act in the same way as it carries out in its own all-natural environment. As soon as you begin alternative gardening, you will certainly notice that there is extremely little job to do in your place. You will certainly be doing little work to preserve your garden, as your plants are getting all the products as well as nutrients that it requires, as a result of the way you have set up your plants. You will likewise become even more of a viewer than a gardener, as the veggie garden is doing all the help you.

Rosie Lee Tompkins: A Retrospective at BAMPFA
Tumblr media
Untitled, 1986
Walking through the Rosie Lee Tompkins exhibit that just opened up at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive in Berkeley, one phrase kept reverberating through my mind: “an ordinary mystic.” There is a spiritual element to this artist’s quilt work that goes beyond her frequent incorporation of bible verse references stitched onto fabric and weaves its way through every subtle connection made in each joined-together piece of colorful texture. You can sense it in just one of the quilts, but when you view the 65+ quilts hung together on the wall in one sitting, it permeates your awareness in a deeply profound way. The artist combines her own diverse cultural background with the influence of the upcycled/repurposed culture of Bay Area arts scene to create a set of brightly-colored, vivid, and vibrant quilts that emanate their own energy.
Tompkins applies her Christian background in the irregularly embroidered numbers and letters cascading across the surface of many of her quilts. Rosie Lee Tompkins would sit down to a quilt, with both a theme and a specific human in mind, and she would meditatively and mindfully stitch together the varied pieces of fabric into something more than the sum of their parts; it was a spiritual practice. She would take the fabrics that others in the Bay Area were giving away or throwing out, find a theme within them, and bring new life to them through her creations. Her work was spiritual, meditative, and intentional. Tompkins’ work evokes a sense of everyday spirituality; it is also materially beautiful and certainly doesn’t require a religious interpretation if you yourself aren’t comfortable with or interested in one.
Tompkins' quilts caught the eye of Bay Area psychologist and art collector Eli Leon who had an ardent passion for African American quilts. When he passed away in 2018, he willed his entire collection, consisting of more than 3,000 quilts, to BAMPFA. It was a surprise to the museum but one that opened up a grand opportunity to delve deep into this niche of art. Of those 3,000 quilts, approximately 500 were created by Rosie Lee Tompkins. The museum curators knew that sharing the work with the public might best begin by introducing us all to her body of work. Although there are references to Leon in the collection, the curators intentionally made Rosie and her creations the star of this exhibit. A second exhibit is in the works for 2022, which will display a greater range of artists from the quilt collection along with additional information about Leon.
Exhibit co-curator Elaine Yau has been delving deep into a socio-cultural, historical perspective on the artist’s work. Until relatively recently, the art world looked at Tompkins solely from a formal perspective. This was due in large part to the fact that Tompkins wanted to keep her life private. In fact, Rosie Lee Tompkins is actually a chosen pseudonym for the artist born Effie Mae Howard. Notably, although she was called Rosie throughout her artistic life, she has embroidered her original name, Effie, on to the borders and faces of many of the quilts that you’ll see in the exhibit. Nevertheless, she refrained from engaging extensively with the art world. This is not to suggest that her work hasn’t been seen before. Co-curator Larry Rinder remembers first coming across her work in 1996 at a Richmond Art Center exhibit by Eli Leon, an experience which moved him so much that Rinder went on to help launch her first solo exhibit at BAMPFA. However, it is only since Tompkins’ death in 2006 that the art world has been looking, as Yau has, at the way the artist fits into the narrative landscape within which her work was created.
Yau emphasizes that we have to consider Tompkins’ work in light of The Great Migration as well as her experiences in the Bay Area as an adult. Effie Mae Howard was born in Arkansas in 1936, a child of The Great Depression and World War II. She learned quilting as a child, taught by her mother, passed down from a lineage of African-American women living in the South. She left the region  in hopes of better opportunities, ending up in the San Francisco Bay Area by way of Chicago then Milwaukee. Once she arrived here, she was influenced by the late 1970s urban arts scene. In particular, there was a culture of re-use (or what we would now term upcycling). She would head to Thrift Town and Value Village and the many flea markets throughout the Bay Area, collecting fabrics and notions as she went along. She stitched together her own identity as an artist, joining her mother’s visual and tactile quilting lessons with her new Bay Area experiences and inspirations, and the result is a body of work that shows both consistency and growth over time.
  Untitled, 1968, 1982-3, 1996
There are a couple of quilts in the exhibit that date to the 1970s but most of them were created in the two decades starting in the early 1980s and leading nearly up to her death. The first two quilts that you’ll see as you enter the exhibit are early pieces that instantly tell you a lot about what you’re going to find as you venture along. Both pieces are large quilts that at first glance look chaotic. They each incorporate a range of different fabrics as well as utilization of a variety of techniques drawn not only from quilting but also including embroidery and other handcrafts. Tompkins’ pushed the boundaries of what a “quilt” could be. Once you realize that there is a theme, you can see that Tompkins set parameters for herself, but then allowed herself to go wild within those parameters, and it is this exact combination of restraint and fluid creation that makes her work so uniquely hers.
Tumblr media
Untitled, 1970s, scriptures
The first room offers just a taste of what is to come. We see Tompkins’ creativity flourish as we enter the second room, which is themed around assemblage and applique work. In this room, we see Tompkins’ take on a classic “crazy quilt.” Seeing several pieces hung together, it becomes obvious that the artist has a broad vocabulary for quilting, and she continues to put her own spin on traditional techniques. Some pieces are dense and almost cluttered, but she never loses track of her sense for composition and shows exquisite skill in her variation of it from piece to piece.
Tumblr media
"Jewelry Christmas tree" bottle, 1996
Make sure that you take the time when you are in the applique room to turn your attention away from the quilts for a moment and towards the case in the center of the room where half a dozen “jewelry Christmas trees” are showcased. These were found in a closet of her home, perhaps originally intended for her eyes only, but they are jewels that glitter so bright that it would have been a shame to keep them stuck in a closet. Tompkins had a love for glitter, sparkle, ribbon, sequins, and all things a little bit extra. She combines them densely on these sculptural forms, creating a three-dimensional version of her quilt style.
Tumblr media
Thirty-six Nine-patch, Three Sixes Combination, 1999, quilted by Irene Bankhead
The next room of the exhibit can’t be missed - you couldn’t fail to notice it - because of the three bright yellow/orange/purple pieces that stand out in the corner. The curators have called this room "Personal Symbolism," and it is the best representation in the exhibit of how Tompkins combined her traditional Christian beliefs with her personal lived experience as well as other elements of transcendental, mystical spirituality. These pieces are called The Three Sixes. They loosely represent three people in her family who all had birthdays with the number six in them. The first is her own birthday: 9/6/36 which seems to have taken on a magical quality for her. She stitches it frequently into the surface of her quilts, sometimes written out directly and sometimes written backwards. The second color and number in the Three Sixes represents her grandfather, a family member she grew up with. The third represents a number of different people - a great uncle, a cousin, a brother. In any case, there is a magical quality to the numbers that Tompkins draws from. However, co-curator Yau points out that sometimes the artist took liberties with her math. For example, there’s a piece that’s a “Thirty-six Nine-patch quilt.” The nine-patch is a traditional quilting technique. Tompkins’ often puts her own twist on classic techniques and this is no exception. In this case, she’s worked the numbers of her birth date in to create a set of 36 9-patches, except that as Yau points out, there are strictly only 33, and you have to count certain yarn ties to get to the “correct” or intended 36. Nevertheless, the gist is there, the cohesion between all of the pieces in the series is undeniable, and there is something a bit mystical about the number play at work here.
Tumblr media
Untitled, 1996 (circa)
When we head to the next room, we see a visible shift in the artist’s work. The pieces collected here represent her cultural concerns. Mostly created in the late 1990s, Tompkins has composed quilts with specific themes in mind, although it’s not always easy to guess exactly what she was trying to say. For example, there is a piece with a big image of OJ Simpson right at the top. The piece includes other prominent Pan-African leaders and celebrities. There is clear thematic cohesion and yet it raises questions as to what precisely she was trying to say. Although this is a political piece, it is also highly personal. Her name, Effie, is stitched not only on the border but also on a cross that says “Michael + Effie + Love” (likely referring to the nearby image of Michael Jordan). And this is where all of her life’s work seems to coalesce, as she combines a deep mindful meditation with both personal and socio-political issues.
Tumblr media
Untitled, 1996, quilted by Irene Bankhead
Another quilt in this section prominently features an image of the Kennedy brothers with Martin Luther King Jr.. It is surrounded by several different versions of the American flag, positioned both vertically and horizontally. Within this, though, the thematic stripes of the flag are repeated in other fabrics including an Indian-inspired batik and a Mexican stripe drawn pulled from serape fabric. There are pastoral scenes here that seem almost colonial with a Latin American reference in a piece of fabric showing flamenco dancers. The statements here are bold and striking.
Tumblr media
 Untitled, 2002 (circa)
In her latest years, Tompkins’ work became more overtly religious. The final room consists of many pieces incorporating crosses and other religious symbolism. Then there are two striking pieces at the very end that bring a sense of closure to the entire show. The penultimate piece is a non-quilted single-piece embroidered green-on-green that combines her personal details (including her name and address) with Christian scripture verses as well as a quote that “love is like an ice cream cone; it gets better with every lick.” The last is a black-on-black embroidered quilt that is slightly reminiscent of a funeral gown. Compared to the bright colors, textures, and pictorial narratives of the other rooms, this is understated and yet astoundingly powerful. We see the artist come full circle as we circle through the rooms of this exhibit.

any tips on what to think about/how to do comic edits that look good?
Hello! I have several for graphics, but obviously, other admins might differ:
Characters with bold lines/vibrant color schemes and/or characters with playful depiction usually go well with a cheerful theme. Jubilee and the like is one of the examples. Balloons/blocky type of fonts, semi-round cursive fonts, cartoony props like petard or flower can do too.
This can be applied to those who have colorful uniforms, Booster Gold, Superman, etc. Using the colors from the characters itself helps a lot, choose from the hair or clothing or their favorite color if there’s any. Balance it with simpler textures, like gradient or light leaks.
Character artworks with sketchy/rough/vague lines tend to go well with rough textures too, like paper or walls or basically non-lightning/bokeh textures.
When rendering, attempt not to left out white thin lines outside of the commonly black outline. Neater the better.
For icons, I like the art to be in the middle or cropped out if it’s on the side, or if the character looks shocked/looking up I’m just doing half upper face icon. Cuter and all I think. Also: set it 300-400x pixels, no bigger than 500. It’s good quality and all but in the end, icons displayed are gonna be small. 100-200x pixels won’t be good for dashboard icons methinks.
The smaller the art on your icon, the freer you are at adding textures. It’s just a way to show the effect behind the art.
Save your edits as .png instead or .jpg, I found this out by accident that the quality is better in .png apparently, I don’t know why?
Make the font fits to the situation, devastating panel (crying/yelling character, gloomy color) go well how you imagine a cataclysmic font is (for me it’s messy handwriting, the thinner the better. Or make it blurry, I personally like motion blur effect and underwater with the darkest color you have on your graphics theme).
The bigger the font usually it looks like the words (in that font) screams louder. Use it for epic quotes. Stuttering fonts for worrying quotes, or something like that.
When it’s raining text don’t use overly complicated (cursive and all) font just use the basic ones like, say, open sans or times new roman or montserrat. Though if you wanna be more aesthetic it’s okay to use it, and sometimes I did it too if I don’t think the quotes are That good or fitting to the panel’s energy (wtf is this wording).
Oh right, black and white are great with any color, but usually, I go with a less gray/white background for vibrant color and grayer with pastel/paler/less saturation artwork. If you want consistent color try to save the color code in your notes then look it up again if you want to color another panel (ex: yellow #F9D71C)
If you’re a beginner and don’t know how to.. change/edit the artworks’ colors yet, just choose the outline color of said png, usually, it’s black. It’s not always but frequently prettier if the background color’s part of the art.
I know it’s not exactly a tip of “edit that looks good” but you might wanna plan ahead on your graphic if it’s gonna be kinda complicated. I did this kinda thing a long time ago:
Tumblr media
Look up and try to see thru other edit maker’s works, not like plagiarism/copying thing but more like an inspiration, and then make your own thing. Say your character is a prisoner, make the theme a prison, then to be different try make it a mugshot or something.
Download/save inspo pics from Pinterest then make a folder/board for it, or make your own inspo graphic tags. Scroll thru it when you’re bored, then mess with a panel an Out of Context blog posted on your dash/timeline. Practice is key.
Bend/recolor the colors as much as you want, as long as you love it. Say, Betsy’s scheme screams purple. Bend it to pink, or blue. For me, editing is if you enjoy the process too, the result will get better if you’re happy alongside the way. I edit Transformers most of the time, and I made Megatron pink because I like it, and I think it turns out good.
I’d say crowded panel (crowded like you’ve made texture + art + text in one panel) is unnecessary if you already have more than 5 panels, but brain is a complex thing and sometimes it won’t let you.. chill. So I think it’s fine being crowded, or have no text at all, or go with one color (b/w only) or two (blue & b/w) or three (yellow, blue, b/w) or more. Just make it tidy. People can see it as graphic, others will see it as a set of mobile headers, or computer/phone backgrounds, or just pretty photoset in general. I get phone backgrounds tagged on mine a lot when for me, I think it’s not, but hey everyone’s happy and satisfied so I suppose that’s a win-win.
Those are the base, I don’t follow every single thing I listed here and you don’t have to too. These aren’t the rules, go wild.

REVIEW: Tea Gumps (Taytay, Rizal)
Hi, all!
Last week, I was invited to review this local and very promising local milk tea cafe that is nearby my home - Tea Gumps in Taytay, Rizal. I have been seeing this cafe for quite some time now (since I started college) and everyday, I pass by here when I’m going to work. I have witnessed how they have grown physically for the past few years and it’s impressive, but when I learned how the company has evolved that much in Rizal, I was more impressed with this cafe. I was told by the operations manager to
In this post, I will talk about my whole experience with the cafe - from the place itself, the food, the total ambiance, and the service.
Place
First things first - most of the people who are exploring food places think about the accessibility of the place from their homes and from the metro. This branch is just a jeepney ride away from my home, which makes it a perfect chill out place for me whenever I want. It is located along the road in Rizal Avenue in Taytay, and the cafe is visible if you’re along the way. It is not hard to locate and the vibrant shine of the lights used inside the cafe helps it attract curious foodies.
Here’s a photo of the place I got from their Facebook page (because when I was there, the place was under renovation so I can’t really take pictures around):
Tumblr media
Food and drinks
I’m not being biased here but oh my, the food here is really good! They prepared two drinks and two plates of snacks for me to try and I was so impressed with how exquisite the taste of everything.
Tumblr media
The first drink that was served to me is their Dark Chocolate Milk Tea, and this was so different to other chocolate milk tea that I tried at the other milk tea shops before. I love how thick the taste is without compromising the flavor and texture of the “sinkers” or the pearls. The pearls are also heavenly in taste! There’s an aftertaste in every bite and it compliments really well with the drink.
RATE: 5/5
Tumblr media
The second drink that was served to me is a limited edition drink that is being served only for the month of February. This one is called the Dark Cocoa Strawberry Kiss Cafe and I was amazed with how contrasting yet very suitable the mix of the dark chocolate and the strawberry flavors with one another. This one’s caffeine based so it has a stronger flavor. On my first sip, I tasted the strawberry while on the next, I was able to taste the caffeine until the two mixed together, and it’s so good! I’m not much of a coffee person nowadays that’s why I was really shocked with how this can be such a good drink. The pearls for this one is lesser rich in flavor (I don’t know if it’s the same pearls as the previous drink or the flavor of the drink itself affected the taste of the pearls) but it us still nice.
RATE: 4.5/5
Here’s the promotional poster of the limited edition drinks Tea Gumps has for February:
Tumblr media
Next, we have the food.
Tumblr media
Two snacks were provided for me: The Cheesy Beef Roll (with chips on the side) and the Cheesy Beef Fries. As someone who loves cheese, I was really excited to taste these two. The Cheesy Beef Roll taste so good especially with the dip! I was told that the dip was homemade and for something that is homemade, it is really unique and authentic when it comes to the taste.
The Cheesy Beef Fries captured my heart. I love fries and cheese combined together, but the beef added more excitement to this dish. I love it so much!!! The beef tasted like the ones suitable for lasagna and it’s rich in flavor. The white sauce included here also tastes good and when all of these are combined together, you can actually forget that the bottom part is composed of fries.
RATE: 4.5/5 and 5/5
I love how these dishes compliment with the drinks that well. There’s a balance in all flavors and the “umay” factor is avoided - which makes the food offerings of Tea Gumps admirable.
Menu
For a rising milk tea cafe star, Tea Gumps has a lot to offer in their menu. They have 5 drinks series which offer a wide range of drink variants suitable for every taste of every possible customer - Caffe Latte Series, Wild Series, Yakult Series, Fruit Tea Series, Luxury Series, and Milk Tea Series. They also have an expanding food menu, and I’m in awe with how the cafe can innovate more food options to pair with their huge selection of drinks.
Price
The price is considerably cheap for the kind of dining experience they can offer for their customers. Drinks are affordable and snacks have large servings, which makes the experience worthy to be paying for. The cheapest milk tea is priced at 70 pesos for a medium size, and honestly, it’s so affordable, especially for the students. Truly, this is a place where you can get more than what you pay for but you don’t have to pay for more.
OVERALL VERDICT
I can’t wait to go back to Tea Gumps and dine in with my friends or family! I feel so valued as a customer here and everything feels also authentic in taste and service. The place has a relaxing ambiance perfect for hanging out and catching up with long-seen friends, and it’s also a good place to study / work / even spend time alone. The visuals are pleasing to the eye and the colors are attractive for customers outside. Overall, I loved my stay here and I can confidently say that Tea Gumps is a place where I can come back to anytime.

My Favorite Insects
Tumblr media
Well howdy ya’ll Galactic Bug Man here with another blog post. Sorry this is long over due I have been busy with school and I have had some family issues that needed to be resolved this last few months but I am back with another blog post and just in time for the start of *drum roll* *fanfare* INSECT SEASON! or just spring.
So In my last post that was back in November I said that I would talk about what are my favorite insects. For the record some people may tell you that you can only have one or two favorites of everything. Well for me that has always been hard for me. Anything that interests me automatically becomes an obsession with me. With the autism it is kind of hard to ignore things that have a profound interest with me. Some people just have one favorite or each category. As for my goofy/nerdy self I have many favorites on many levels. For me I don’t just have one favorite science fiction TV Show or movie, same goes for Cartoons, comedies, food...eh you get the picture. Anyway I don’t just have a single favorite family of animals or just one favorite species for each.
Tumblr media
In my line of a hobby it is the thrill of the search and an encounter goes. For me favorites come in many forms and have different lifestyles, and sometimes the story that will form when I find an organism helps make an organism my favorite. So there are many things that add up to make an organism a favorite. For me it is all of these put together. Even though I am a storyteller of sorts and love to share experiences I have had finding certain species. So now let us go into some of  my favorites from the world of insects. Even though I am a birder too think I am just going to leave this post strictly for the insects. Just FYI I am expanding my blog to more than just insects. In the future I will be talking about birds, mammals, and all things natural. So with that said let us dive in to Insect family #1...
Tumblr media
Beetles have become a growing obsession for me in the last few years. Back when I was in the Future Farmers of America I participated in an entomology contest once in the spring of 2011 then I did another one in spring of 2012.It was like a UIL contest of sorts but it was an FFA governed contest. We had to study a list of 125 or 150 insects I can’t really remember the amount we had to ID but it was a lot. The Texas Ironclad Beetle was one of the many on the list. (the picture was a photo I took of one during the 2017 iNaturalist City Nature Challenge of that same species.) The FFA contest really opened my eyes to loving the insect world. I became quite interested in the lives of insects and the ways they work. Butterflies had always been a favorite subject of mine ever since I was in grade school. My late grandmother (who passed away back in August of last year) got me butterflies and we had a garden at the house we moved from back in April for a long time. Most insects didn’t really appeal to me until my time with the Martin High School FFA. Me and the teams I had both years won first prize at the contests so that is how my love for loving insects a lot more than I did started to grow. Beetles started to grow on me. There have been many species that I have seen in the last few years that I wouldn’t believe existed. Some are just so amazing to watch and to photograph.
Tumblr media
A growing favorite group of mine would have to be the Tiger Beetles. They are some of the prettiest and most vibrant colored of the beetles. This one was found at Thora Hart Park a few blocks from where I live now. We moved back in April of last year. This was found on one of our getting ready to move days. This guy is called a Chartreuse Tiger Beetle. It is a really shiny one. I found this one on one of the sand paths out there in the back forty of the park. It is small but the number of Tigers is amazing. There are a lot of deep sands out there and on any given hot and sunny day they will be out. Tiger Beetles are known for being fast throughout their lives. They have good eyesight even when they are larva which is kind of interesting for an insect. They are also predatory their whole lives. With a sharp pair of scissor-like mandibles and a tiger like attitude they are a fascinating beetle to observe. Both fast runners and fast fliers they one of an insect’s worst nightmares. This one was really cool. I saw this flash of green and blue. Then it landed in front of me and then I saw a flash of red. These guys are actually yellow on their wing covers; but when the sun hits them just right they shine a bright reddish orange color. That is what makes them really appealing to me. We all like shiny things don’t we? Shiny rocks, Pokemon, silver, gold. You name it people love shiny objects. For me shiny beetles are no different.
Tumblr media
Another one of my favorites is this one called the Carolina Tiger Beetle. This one was one cool Tiger Beetle. I was out at a park called Parr Park in Grapevine Texas. There was a bunch of these guys running about the light traps we were using during one of our field investigations which was a Moth Night. A moth night or mothing event is where you set out lights with different wave lengths and purposely attract insects to photograph and document them. I have been on several in the last couple of years and they are loads of fun. They are cool because you don’t always get to see the creatures of the nocturnal world that often if you are a day person. Me I am more of an afternoon and night person. I have never been much of a morning person. That doesn’t mean I won’t get up early some days and go early morning birding or something like that. I do that sort of thing all the time but the night time when it is really muggy and sticky outside the bugs just come from out of the wood work. I don’t suggest doing those kinds of events if you don’t like bugs touching you or if you have a fear of insects because they will get into you mouth and your hair. Anyway getting back on track. I had my flashlight on and I was just looking down to see what I could find. I saw a couple of purple streaks running around at the base of our sheets that the bugs would cling to while we took photos. These guys really catch your eye and the refection from a headlamp or a flashlight is amazing when the light bounces off these guys. It is amazing how shiny they are. That is why I love these guys because one they are appealing by vibrancy in color and by their amazing patterns and shades. They are amazing little creatures. They are tiny and you can easily miss them. That is why you will not have tour guide going to have a tour guide with a group of people looking for these guys. They are too small and will flee in an instant. Still going out by yourself will be your best bet on seeing these guys.
Tumblr media
Another one of my favorite beetles is this kind. This one is known by only a scientific name. It is called Zygogramma Heterothecae. It is a mouth full I know. This photo was taken at Tarrant County College’s South Campus where I go to school. I found this guy on one of my study breaks. On most study breaks I either go to the school’s game room and hang out with the other nerds or I go out and see what insects I can find so I can upload them to iNaturalist. This guy was at one of the best places to look for insects on campus (the library). This guy was the first one I have seen. Just look at those markings; it almost looks like a tribal painting or something from a tropical land. It is amazing how these guys look. I posted it to the iNaturalist website and turns out it had never been found in the Metroplex before so I got to expand its range just a little bit. That is another factor that makes an insect my favorite for its rarity or if it is a new one for a new range of territory. I have expanded ranges for a lot of insects on iNaturalist in the three years I have been using it. It is not that I am a big shot or anything it is just that I like to take pictures of everything from common insects and birds to the really hard to see ones. It is often the small things that are the least observed. I don’t know just how many species in total I have expanded for but I have also found several firsts for many parks around the area. One of my friends tries to give me the big head and calls me a rockstar. The truth is I am no rockstar or super naturalist I am just doing what a citizen scientist does take photos and send them on the database website and let nature take its course. I mean it is cool that I have found a lot of species that are rare and maybe out of place but I am not one who likes to take credit; I am the kind of person that likes to give credit when it is due. I have always been modest in this case. But yes finding rare things like this adds to the value.
Tumblr media
Sometimes a bug just has to look like a spaceship or an visitor from another world to get my vote. Many insects I encounter remind me of things from Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica (1978 version with the Ovion Bug People) among other science fiction movies and TV shows. This guy Delphinia Picta or Picture Winged Fly is a wild looking one. It almost reminds me of the Bounty Hunter Greedo that worked for Jabba the Hutt that Han Solo blew away with his laser pistol in Star Wars IV A New Hope. It has a head that looks just like Greedo’s face minus the green with the bumpy texture and the funny looking ears. This guy is just bizarre looking all together. It looks like a starship with a Greedo head. so that is kind of fun and adds to the favorites if they remind you of fun things like that. Many insects in my mind always look like a sci-fi or horror movie monster from the 1930s- 1960s with the B horror classics. That is just it with being a nerd you see things like that out in nature and as a huge nerd of science fiction and stuff like that I have a lot of fun with it. I seriously can’t be out with a group on a BioBlitz see a bug and shoot off my mouth with some kind of silly science fiction reference. Thankfully I am with people that get it so I am safe but yes it is true that I can’t go a day without referencing a TV show, movie, or book. I am just that kind of guy even when it comes to nature. I surprised no one has gotten sick of me yet in my naturalist group. Lets look at another insect that looks like an alien shall we.
Tumblr media
This guy is called the Wheel Bug. Named after its weird Buzz Saw like blade on his midsection. I am surprised that when they made the Starship Troopers series they didn’t make a bug that looked like this monster. This guy is a true monster. I It conjurers up a lot of science fiction nightmares just by looking at it but man I live for this kind of stuff. I love weird looking bugs. The weirder the creature the more blown my mind is. Sometimes the things with a face only a mother could love are the best things to look at. This guy you do not want to pick up just FYI. It can bite and it bites hard. I have never been bitten but good golly I know people that have been bitten and they say it is a feeling you don’t want to have. It may not kill you but it can leave one nasty mark. This guy is a member of the Assassin Bug group and it is one of the largest. Most assassins don’t get this big but these guys are over an inch long in some cases. They are a true monster but heck just as long as you keep your distance they can’t hurt you. So that is one factor for me I guess. Some animals like elephants may remind you of Dumbo or a baby deer may remind you of Bambi. However if you are into bugs and a pop culture nerd you will probably be seeing some Close Encounters business. Just saying I have been on the sci-fi bandwagon all my life and let me tell you some insects get even stranger and bring even more science fiction stuff to the table.
Tumblr media
Some times it just has to have a fun name to say and since we just went down a path of sci-fi reference I think this one would be great to talk about. This little butterfly is known as a Phaon Crescent. I think that name sounds so much like a ship name (just the Phaon part). This guy is a very pretty butterfly that looks very much like a starburst or a disco ball. It is a very interesting butterfly and is just as small as its sister species called the Pearl Crescent which we get here in Texas too. These are not as common for me on a more personal note but they do happen quite frequently. Both are really pretty but this one gets bonus points for having such a cool name.
Tumblr media
Sometimes to be a favorite they have to look weird before you can figure them out and know what they are doing. As in this case for this little Yellow-collared Slug Moth. You see that arched thing? that is its butt. I am just going to say this now like I have said so many times I am glad I don’t have to put my face near my butt for protection. This moth is in its defensive position. I was in a group doing another event out at Parr Park and I was coming back with a few other and I spotted him on a garbage can and we couldn’t figure out what he was or what exactly he was doing. So yes sometimes the oddest bits of behavior help with the humor of a potential favorite observation. This guy was just doing what he does best when not looking for food or a mate. 1. he had chosen a good hiding spot that matched his color. 2. he was just in the defense position so that way nothing serious would happen to him if he was attacked. 3. It just looked funny to us. We all gave it crazy bewildered looks trying to make heads or tails out of it. Turns out many moths do the same thing like the Eggplant Leaf-roller Moth and others. So sometimes the things we don’t understand may seem like a good laugh and that could add to a fond memory.
So that is it some of my favorite insect moments frozen in time. I have tons more favorites but it is kind of hard to cram them all into a single blog post when you have over 5,000 observations and over 1,370 species on your life list. That is kind of hard to pick and choose all of your favorites. I would like to hear what your favorite animals are and how you pick and choose your favorites. So until we meet again readers stay tuned for more from me Galactic Bug Man. I will see you on the trail. See you soon! gotta run.

Modern Living Room Design Ideas to Improve Your Quality of Life
The living room is the best place to entertain visitors in a home. It's where families gather to unwind, relax after a hard week of work, or enjoy a television show. This room is often on the main level of a house and gets a lot of activity. To ensure visitors' comfort, your living room should be well-designed. Plan your living room with these guidelines in minding the residential interior design. The reason you are there is the most important thing. The style is something you must like and agree with. You're going to spend a lot of time here.
Lighting is a fundamental component of any room. It can influence everything, from the wall color to the workmanship and the carpet. It is important to plan your lighting strategy early. Consider all possible sources of light, including wall lights that can be used for browsing or crystal fixtures that illuminate the whole room.
Lighting is an important aspect of designing a room. It is a great idea to have your designer draw lighting. You're just making it harder for your chances of being right if you put lighting last. You should make it an integral part of your room since lighting is an essential piece of the room's appearance. These brilliant front room lighting ideas will make your space look more beautiful and more delightful. Your search is end if you want an
1. Use Pastel and Textures for The White Room
It is hard to create a multi-colored living space that isn't too overwhelming. However, it is fun to learn how to make this room look great. You should balance the darker colors with lighter ones and include enough white space or earthy accents. It takes a certain amount of texture to create a room that is lively and vibrant. We can do this by combining large amounts of texture such as faux fur to add some color to the living area. You can make a space that is both intriguing and fun to read in with the addition of highlights and a framed wall.
2. Go with Blue Living Room and Using Colorful Sofas Which Creates  a Cozy Living Room
Announce-making plants can add life and style to any space. Designers use the Monstera plant as a way to bring out their creativity. Reward tip: Mix and match furniture from the same color family but in different colors. For example, you can combine the blue seat and sofa with other pieces. A simple trick to make a modern living space look great is to use soothing wall color to create a stunning matching effect, such as these striking blue lounge seats. It will feel more like a space you can revive by sticking to lighter natural colors such as whites, creams, and browns. Natural textures are more inviting than bright whites.
3. Use Decorative Shelves In Your Living Room
Chairs and shelves are great for organizing your plants. They can be used to organize them and give you extra space. Plant racks can be a great improvement element. They elevate the plants to a higher standard. You can choose from metal, plastic, and wooden plant stands. Raised beds can be used anywhere in the house. Seats are functional components that can be used to structure instruments such as fly shading or complements.
4. Highlight The Corner Of The Living Room
A living room with two or three plants is not too much. Succulents and desert flora are great options, but there are many other amazing alternatives. It is important to have lots of green spaces in your room. An old table can be used as a corner table and your favorite plants can be added to it. The corners of skyscraper homes are often cluttered with large segments, which can make your living space look crowded and unattractive. A tall plant can create a wild, unstructured space with large twigs of natural green that are free from all the nefarious, natural, and unaltered colors.
5. Go With The Ombre Paint Effect
The ombre effect is very popular right now. Crown paint makes this easy, we'll pass it on to the experts to help you understand how to make it as simple as possible. The first step to creating an ombre effect is to decide where your color separation should be. Then, paint the top section of your wall beyond the color gap point. Because of the possibility of drips from the lower wall, it is important to start at the top.
6. Protect Your Walls With Half And A Half Painting
Use the two-tone strategy for a more pragmatic purpose. Half and half paint impacts are great for neutral lovers who fear they will not last long. You also have the opportunity to inject a vibrant color palette into your home. It is a great idea to use more neutral colors in high-traffic rooms. This is especially useful in a dining area where there may be little to no foul fingers or spills. Even though it will still be visible, a darker color will not show up as easily.

Tumblr media
“This past year has been wildly transformative so I wanted to ignite the powerful animal in all of us by creating four limited edition eyeshadow palettes that would allow you to both tame your inner feline or embrace your wild side in the sweep of a brush.” – Huda Kattan
It’s an eyeshadow jungle out there, but fear not because Huda Kattan has cherry-picked this season’s fiercest color combos for her new limited-edition WILD Obsessions eyeshadow palettes. Whether you want to go full-on ferocious or tame your wild side, this new collection of on-the-go mini palettes have the purrrrfect mix of nuanced neutrals and pops of color for you to achieve your wildest beauty dreams.
The Inspiration
Tumblr media
Inspired by four of the most powerful wild animals, the JAGUAR, PYTHON, CHAMELEON and TIGER, each palette has been carefully curated around these animals’ attributes: seductive, intuitive, strong, courageous. Each armed with nine velvety hues, including a multitude of buttery mattes, 3D metallics and shimmery sparkles in complementary fierce tones, each palette is designed to highlight, line, and define the eyes for an endless array of animalistic looks so get ready to take a walk on the wild side. Sleek and sultry, soft and feline, dangerously rebellious or wildly animalistic, each palette allows you to tame your inner animal for a sultry daytime look, or embrace your ferocious side and make your mark in the jungle.
The Finishes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Effortlessly easy to master, each high-pigmented palette features four delectable finishes in nine complementary hues created to shade, highlight, and define the eyes in an endless array of wild beauty looks for every occasion. Each palette’s brand new 3D Metallics are super lightweight to the touch, loaded with multi-reflective metallic pigment, and armed with an ultra foil or high sparkle finish. The multi-dimensional shades create a diverse array of finishes depending on the applicator used from a soft, sultry glow when applied using a dry, fluffy brush to intense high shine foil when applied with a damp flat or liner brush. Even the texture has been reworked for this limited edition series, created with a 3D embossed python print for the wildest touch. Foil metallics are creamy to the touch while remaining super-pigmented giving a high-shine finish. Huda and her team created a unique feline dotted pattern only available in the WILD JAGUAR palette, and a swirled foil metallic only available in the CHAMELEON palette. When it comes to the sparkly metallic shades, the ultra-creamy, semi-sheer shadow bases have been infused with a bigger sparkle giving these fierce shades extra fire. And lastly, the new mattes – this new formula is buttery to the touch allowing even more blend-ability, leaving a seamless, sultry smooth finish on lids.
The Palettes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WILD PYTHON – The python is known to transition and transform over its lifetime, shedding its skin when needed. Due to its powerful connection with the earth and sun, the python is brilliant at manifesting energy and is known to seduce with its smooth and seductive movements. As a result, the WILD PYTHON palette is made up of metamorphic gold and green duo-chromes, mixed earthy tone bases and a dash of exotic blue-greens to create a range of sultry beauty looks as you wildly evolve over the season.
WILD CHAMELEON – The chameleon is known for having the agile ability to present and hide itself, ever adapting to its surroundings. Cunningly intuitive, the chameleon knows when to change its colors, when to blend in, and when to stand out. Covering all bases, the WILD CHAMELEON palette is made up of contradictory yet complementary pops of vivid color, including vibrant purples, glamorous golds and earthy oranges giving you the choice to stand out and be seen, or stay beautifully subtle in the shadows.
WILD JAGUAR – The jaguar is the ultimate symbol of power, commanding attention from both prey and fellow predators alike. Due to its unmatched strength, the jaguar is truly King (or Qween!) The WILD JAGUAR palette commands attention with its smoky color scheme. A mix of blacks, greys and oxidized bronzes allows you to create an array of sexy and show-stopping beauty looks that will place you at the very top of the food chain.
WILD TIGER – Sold exclusively at Hudabeauty.com, ASOS and Sephora Europe – The tiger holds true to itself and is deeply courageous through its primal instincts. Tigers hold a lot of self-belief with their ability to trust themselves in situations and have an abundance of strength, willpower and conviction. As a result, for the WILD TIGER palette, Huda created a sumptuous champagne gold palette that includes a roar of animalistic, taupe neutrals and a stroke of feline terracotta shades allowing you to be beautifully brave with your look this season.
Huda’s How To:
Before getting wild, create the perfect canvas for your lids with Huda Beauty’s Black & White Matte Basics’ Melted shadows to deepen or brighten your final eye look. Then start off by building your base with one of the buttery matte shadows.
Pick up the high-pigmented metallic shades using a dense flat brush and press onto the lid for a soft metallic finish. If you’re after a fuller coverage foil effect, add a layer of a metallic shade by firmly pressing the pigment on with your fingers or sponge applicator.
Sweep the 3D shadows over the lids with a flat brush for an all over multi-chromatic look, or with your finger for a more intense shine. Want to go full-on ferocious? Use a damp brush which will leave an extreme, fiery foiled effect.
Huda’s Hacks:
When it comes to applying the deeper shades, as Huda always says, ‘blend is your friend’. Using a brush is super important to get a sultry smooth finish in the crease and across the lid.
Not all deep shades have to be bold and graphic. Blend out the deep mattes with a fluffy brush to give definition and shape to the eyes without dominating the entire makeup look.
If you’re after a tame, daytime look, build a light base using the buttery matte shades before adding the metallic shadows on top using a flat brush, a sponge applicator or your finger depending on the intensity you’re looking for.
Want a bright-eyed look? Use the metallic shades to rim the lower lash line or add to your inner corners. The result is a soft highlight which will create the illusion of big eyes ready to go on the prowl.
For a bigger beauty bite and deeper impact, use Huda Beauty’s Matte Basics Melted Shadows as a base. The White shade will work to enhance your matte shadows making them pop while the Black will transform any metallic into a more rare and sparkly version.

Comfortable Cotton Fabric
Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fibre that forms in a boll, or protective casing, around the seeds of cotton plants in the genus Gossypium, which belongs to the Malvaceae family of mallows. The fibre is almost entirely made up of cellulose. Cotton bolls will aid seed dispersion under natural settings.
The shrub may be found in tropical and subtropical locations all over the world, including the Americas, Africa, Egypt, and India. Mexico has the largest diversity of wild cotton species, followed by Australia and Africa. Cotton was domesticated independently in the Old and New Worlds.
The fiber is most frequently spun into yarn or thread and wont to make a soft, breathable textile. The utilization of cotton for cloth is understood so far to prehistoric times; fragments of cotton fabric dated to the fifth millennium BC are found within the Indus Valley Civilization, also as fabric remnants dated back to 6000 BC in Peru. Although cultivated since antiquity, it had been the invention of the gin that lowered the value of production that led to its widespread use, and it's the foremost widely used natural fibre cloth in clothing today.
Current estimates for world production are about 25 million tonnes or 110 million bales annually, accounting for two. 5% of the world's arable land. India is that the world's largest producer of cotton. The us has been the most important exporter for several years. Within us, cotton is typically measured in bales, which measure approximately 0.48 cubic meters (17 cubic feet) and weigh 226.8 kilograms (500 pounds).

In Peru, cultivation of the indigenous cotton species sea island cotton has been dated, from a find in Ancon, to c. 4200 BC, and was the backbone of the event of coastal cultures like the Norte Chico, Moche, and Nazca. Cotton was grown upriver, made into nets, and traded with fishing villages along the coast for giant supplies of fish. The Spanish who came to Mexico and Peru within the early 16th century found the people growing cotton and wearing clothing made from it.
Kingdom of Kush
Cotton may have been domesticated 5000 BCE in eastern Sudan near the Middle Nile Basin region, where the cotton cloth was being produced. Around the 4th century BC, the cultivation of cotton and the knowledge of its spinning and weaving in Meroë reached a high level. The export of textiles was one of the sources of wealth for Meroë.
