you’re such an incredible writer, so i only imagine u read extensively too. i’ve noticed ur ao3 bookmarks are empty, but i’d love to get a list of your favorite titles whether it’s zutara, other fandom or traditionally published works.

I do indeed read a lot. The past few years I have read much less fanfic and have focused on original stuff, but I have actually been able to read a few fics in recent times because my brain didn't want to write, I did have a bit of Zutara burnout I think so no Zutara recs here (yet).

But if you, like me, enjoy some Dramione, then, for starters:

anything by phlox (Slowly Toward Desire is my favorite)

Amateur Cartography by worksofstone

A Darker Blue by skitter (legitimately cannot believe this fic didn't blow up, one of the best Dramione fics I've read and that fandom has a ton of good shit, so like. wow. skitter also has a Zutara! I have not yet read but it's on my list and I'm already sure I will love it)

Lights Out by Phoebe

I used to read every pairing under the sun in HP but as I said, haven't read as much fic lately, but two others are Blood & Gold (a Tomione, by the legendary ObsidianPen) and The Wilderness (Luna/Ginny) by speechwriter. If you try nothing else on this list, try The Wilderness. That fic is high art. It blew my entire goddamn mind, my god. I also highly recommend anything by PacificRimbaud (esp. the Paneville)

The Liveship Trilogy by Robin Hobb altered my brain chemistry

Scholomance Trilogy by Naomi Novik. I mean, okay, I worship Naomi generally, so I was shocked to discover it took me a while to get into these. Read the first, thought 'meh', came back to it again later, liked it better, second and third proceeded to BLOW me away

NK Jemisin's Broken Earth trilogy. In case you want a nice dose of a darker twist on Earthbending and an exploration of prejudice.

Juniper & Thorne by Ava Reid for your Gothic horror needs

Lost Boy and Alice, both by Christina Henry. Dark fairy tale retellings, so you know I'm there. She does them so well.

The Burning series by Evan Winter. It has dragons and a dual-sword wielding badass, in case you need those itches scratched

If you want some good published romance (I tend to like fanfic for pure romance stories tbh so I'm usually pickier here) that has some fanfic vibes, I enjoyed Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert

If you want dark Zutara vibes, my go-to rec and one of my favorite series is The Poppy War trilogy (I will never get over #rinezha)

I wouldn't say I adore The Legendborn Cycle series, but I still like it, you can tell the author has roots in the fan/fanfic scene I think, and again, I think it has some Zutara vibes. Tracy Deonn 100% had to have been inspired by Zuko for her character Sel, I'm convinced. And her take on the Arthurian legend is really unique and creative.

My Pedro Character Fic Rec List has been updated again this week. Lots more fics and writer's added. There's so much on there I still need to read myself. Seems to get bigger everyday... but then, that's a pretty great problem to have, right?

Some gems I read that stood out this week were:

Dream Within A Dream - @gasolinerainbowpuddles This Incubus!Ezra fic is written like a dream, and it was an absolute dream to read too. Anything Ezra and I am there, hello! But this is deffo a must read for anyone in the fandom. I am still not over the impression it left on me, and Puddles' writing is just sheer perfection. 👌🏻

An American Hero - @secretelephanttattoo I got acquainted with El's OFC Katie in this wonderful fic. And I love her! I love how she knows exactly what she wants and is not afraid to get it. Javier Peña has met his match! 😜

Pent Up - @ramblers-lets-get-ramblin Another Javi P fic this week by the talented and lovely Angela, who I just adore. And this fic left me panting, let me tell you. Read it for yourself and you'll understand why... 🥵

Close Shave - @mothandpidgeon A detailed look at Dave York shaving, and it was chock full of vivid imagery, that I felt like I was there watching him do it. Absolutely delightful writing. 😍

Obsession - @tropes-and-tales This Dave York fic also painted some incredible imagery and is such a great read. I love how this was written and you should absolutely check this one out. 👍🏻

☆ What have I been watching/listening to this week?

I binge-watched The Fall Of The House Of Usher this week, all in one day... 🥴 It was so good and I highly recommend it if you're a Poe fan - or not, watch it anyway. It was dark, clever and I love how they brought such an old, renowned tale into the 21st century. I absolutely crush hard on Carla Gugino also, she's such an amazing actor. 😊

I also rewatched Strange Way Of Life and Bloodsucking Bastards, because, you know, I had to... 😉

Also watched Talk To Me and I really enjoyed that film too!

☆ What have I been up to this week?

I've been on on annual leave from work this week and it's been filled with a ton of writing, some hiking, catching up with friends and family, and it was my birthday too - phew! Back to work tomorrow, and I almost feel like I need another week off to recuperate from this one! 🥵

The Classic You’ve Heard Of But Somehow Haven’t Read Yet: Perilous Wanderings by Wolftales

What you need to know going in:

The OG Sauron impersonates Celeborn in Gal’s dream fic! Or, at least for me—fairly certain I came across this one first, so forgive me if I’m mistaken, this may have just been my experience. Regardless, SUCH a great, dark entry into the Sauron impersonates Celeborn camp. A quick, 2-chapter read that will stir your emotions and is definitely steamy, to say the least. 🔥 I love how much Galadriel won’t give into Sauron in this, as well as how much she knows how to push his buttons… he’s delightfully greedy and definitely a little unhinged in trying to get her to submit to him. Sidenote: there are so many great one-shots and short fics I’ve read or bookmarked that I almost think I need to do a special short fic edition of this series… thoughts? 👀

The AU You Need to Immerse Yourself In Because, Well, Wow: Rainbow of Chaos by @yletylyf

What you need to know going in:

Another AU from the amazing @yletylyf! Two weeks in a row, I know, but this AU is so unique and their writing is so great I feel justified. The premise alone had me clicking immediately: a LOTR-era AU in which Sauron still has access to a fair form, and sets out to retake the One Ring himself. Spoiler alert: he succeeds, and the story truly kicks off from there with a repentant (maybe) Sauron and a Galadriel who’s tempted to believe him. Featuring a smattering of favorite LOTR characters so far, including Gollum, Gandalf, Aragorn, Frodo and more, it feels like early stages for this fic, but I’m so intrigued to see where it goes. One thing I love about @yletylyf’s work is their characterization—like Through Peril and Fire, there’s this unique frankness to every interaction; every piece of dialogue, but each one is so potent. It creates this really rare effect and cadence that resonates.

The Complete But Never Forgotten Masterpiece: On the Twelfth Night, or, Epiphany: How Galadriel Seduced a Priest and Discovered the True Meaning of Christmas by @thrillofhope

What you need to know going in:

Okay, I know I’ve now put two authors from last week again this week and I promise I’m not TRYING to do that, my faves are just my faves, and this fic stole my whole goddamn soul this past weekend so I HAD to. I HAD to. (Promise, I will spread more of the love next week. I have all the plans. I have LISTS. Promise.) But seriously, I had this fic open in my tabs for weeks and held off starting it because I somehow knew it was going to crawl into my brain and blow me away and when I finally gave in and started reading it last weekend, I could. Not. Stop. In other words, I wasn’t disappointed. One of my first few modern AUs, this story sees Galadriel attempting to seduce Halbrand, a priest, after a bet with one of her brothers. It’s very Fleabag-inspired in plot and tone and @thrillofhope NAILS it. Hilarious, gut-wrenchingly romantic, and so goddamn sexy it kills, I’m genuinely not convinced the author isn’t Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Like my watch of Fleabag, I'm so glad I got to binge it because waiting for each chapter would’ve been torture.

The WIP That Will Wreck You (In the Best Way): The Chain {Series} by @hazelmaines

What you need to know going in:

-insert me groaning- This fic, the ANGST. The sublime tenderness. It’s so damn good, guys, so damn good. Originally a collection of one-shots, @hazelmaines recently consolidated into a multi-chapter fic plus a bonus alternate ending story in the series called Negotiation. I recommend gobbling ALL of it up and subscribing. Onto the premise: The Chain starts during RoP and diverges from canon somewhere around episode 5, and sees our lovebirds forming a bond in the Unseen world… and they’re not the only ones paying attention. Without revealing too much, some highlights include everything we missed on the ride to Eregion (👀👀👀) and a ton of lovely backstory from Valinor threaded throughout. The additional context, the missing histories, and the dreamlike quality to all of it paints an incredibly rich history for both Sauron and Galadriel and really contextualizes their building bond. Again, don’t want to reveal too much… but I’m super excited to see where this goes and how it grows. Definitely get caught up if you’re not already reading!

The Can’t Stop Consuming No Matter What Time It Is Fic: Shadow-Bride by eye_of_a_cat

What you need to know going in:

Another favorite from eye_of_a_cat and for great reason—as always, every word shines. A post-S1 epic with a distinct fairytale vibe, as it’s framed as a story told by Sauron and Galadriel to each other many, many years later. The story starts in earnest after Galadriel discovers the truth about Sauron, and then proceeds with Sauron negotiating saving the elves from fading in exchange for Galadriel as his bride. You can guess how she might feel about that… 🤣 From there, they journey to Pelargir, and much ensues—animosity, simmering tension, exchanges of power, and so much more, including a well-rounded cast of characters. Without spoiling anything, I’ll say that this fic constantly has me on the edge of my seat, and the last few chapters had me spinning out a little bit from the surprises. It’s a delicious, tantalizing slow burner and every second is 🙌.

Every year, my fellow fanfic writers blow me away with their talent, their creativity, and their heart. 2022 Fic Recs Part 4: Oh, Did You Think We Were Done With Sexytimes?

There was an embarrassment of riches in the HanLeia hotness department this year -- while some of my other recs included some excellent intimate scenes, I couldn’t help recommending some additional fics that I found incredibly sexy. Adults only, for certain.

Bound by @corellianangel: A very hot interlude on the way to Bespin, with a bit of Leia dominating Han and inappropriate use of the Force (even if Leia doesn’t quite know that’s what she’s doing yet).

let me tell you a story by @soloorganaas: Han’s trying to help Leia relax, and Leia can’t quite get there -– so he tells her a hot story that takes her the rest of the way.

the bad habits are the hardest to break by xslytherclawx: I’m not usually a modern/Earth AU kind of person, but this little fic was great, with Han and Leia having some friends-with-benefits sex and Leia not quite ready to admit it’s more than a one-time thing, plus a little reference to bi-for-bi Han and Leia, and Han asking for Leia to do something for him...or more to the point, to him.

Lost together by @contrivedcoincidences6 / Spooky66: “When I kiss you, I want you to remember it the next day.” Han and Leia crash while on a mission, and have a sexy little interlude away from the Rebellion. 

War of the Roses by kroland: Han and Leia go to a war-ravaged planet on a sensitive mission, and their mutual attraction blooms into a night together (and the beginning of more) as they work together to complete the mission and attempt to determine who their true allies are.

Slick by @madame-alexandra​: I think my first reaction was just me with my mouth hanging open, but....yeah, wow. “Things get wet” is a bit of an understatement here. And yeah, Han, if you can figure out how you did that to Leia, could you let us know?

Trust by @inelegantprose​: Oh my goddess, where do I start? This is fully intense smut (and you have to be logged into AO3 to read it) but incredibly sexy, emotional, and fully engaged with the characters at the same time. Leia discovers an old Corellian wedding night tradition, something she’s never done before...and she decides she might want to try it. Of course, there’s a bit of buildup needed to this particular act, which turns out to be just as hot as the supposed main event. I’m just going to start cursing now, frankly, because it’s some of the best and most intimate smut I’ve ever read.

Do you have any good Batman fic recs that are actually based on the source material? I saw your recent repost and I’m really glad I’m not the only one who feels that way

Oh for sure! I honestly have. fewer than I wish I did but I just went through my bookmarks and found some.

First I do gotta pitch my own work, which I don’t feel bad about because I literally wrote bibliographies for the fics I’m about to link you + I wrote them both in response to bad fanon characterizations:

ornithology 301 (tim drake character study, adheres very closely to canon)

which came first (jason todd character study. takes more liberties with canon but every liberty taken is in direct response to canon or fanon, all with the goal of crafting a more cohesive and believable character. chapter two still a wip)

and then I’ve also written like. other stuff which does tend to be canon compliant and where it isn’t strictly canon compliant it’s still like. informed by my knowledge of batfam canon which is Extensive. feel free to look at my dashboard

other stuff not by me:

The Return by lurkinglurkerwholurks. Deals with the fallout of Bruce’s return from being lost in time. I appreciate this fic for being clearly informed by canon knowledge, as is most of the work by this author.

sanctuary by yutro. Jason + Bruce talk about how Bruce won’t stop mourning the Jason-that-was and how that grief affects their relationship. Thank you nuance

3:15 by partingxshot. Dick’s Batman to Damian’s Robin and the careful way they learn to understand each other. I haven’t finished this fic bc it is long and I found it in the midst of the college semester, but so far I really love it. Subtle but nuanced characterization and allows both characters to make mistakes and then grow.

The Penny Drops, the Penny Dreads by Batbirdies. this one isn’t super canonical since it deals with Robin era Jason and Bruce is far more communicative in this than he is in the comics, but I still like this one for taking, I think, a much more thoughtful approach to building Robin!Jason’s character than a lot of other fics. Jason deals with money anxiety and the effects of grief hitting him now that he’s not in survival mode.

Spoiler Alert: It Gets Better by carolinaa. Again, not canon compliant since this is an au but I really enjoy the characterization here. Jason is running a shelter for queer kids in crime alley with the help of various other bats. Steph (who’s a trans girl in this one), pre-spoiler, ends up there and gets help. I think this one ranks so high for me because I fucking love Steph and there’s not a lot of good content for her out there.

and that’s uh. that’s the end of my list. “wow that’s so short!” yeah. yeah. I am fighting for my fucking life in this fandom.

god i think the history of me reading stranger things fics are so funny.

i first watched st when it first came out and for the first two season i wasn't that attached. but wham bam they gave steve robin and i was LIKE HOLD UP. for a solid month i think i was only reading stobin platonic soulmates until i accidentally clicked on the steve harrington & the party tag and it led me to this whole subgenre of just the kids and steve harrington post s2 and it was freaking AMAZING.

i stopped hyper-fixating for a while during covid (that was cm which was wow i lost my mind there) and then s4 hit and i was back on the steve harrington & the party tag.

i am going to be honest i wanted to love eddie but a tiny part in me knew he was going to die so i avoided him (i get INTENSE attachments on characters and i already thought steve was gonna die and if i also love eddie and he dies i'll go into a coma) when vol 1 came out. there was that one month interval where i just read nothing but steve harrington centered fics and then vol 2 hit and i was like huh steve and eddie... AND THEN bam they killed eddie and now i am in love with the two of them 😭🤚🏻

and here we are... i think i've read 600 steddie fics since july and i still haven't sorted out my fic lists. i know that's a LOT but take note that my spencer reid fic rec list is 800+ and that's only on tumblr 💀

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💕

I have to pick just five? I've written so much, and so many of them are near and dear to my heart... Well, I'll try, LOL! My ultimate favorite is probably "Daffodils Bloom After Winter." It was my first real fanfic when I started writing seriously, and to date—even with it currently being re-written—it is my most successful.

My next favorite is another ongoing project, "The Dark Side of the Sun." That's more for the circumstances surrounding it; I was inspired by a sub-server that I'm in, and thanks to how much they hyped me and my story up, I have plans for an entire universe of interconnected stories. Who knows if they'll ever end up seeing the light of day, but the brainrot is fun!

I've written a lot of character-study fics in addition to my typical fluffy oneshots and fantasy epics, but "Drinks on Me" has a special place in my heart. Characters don't often get to fully grieve in the media, at least not where we can see it, and it's a facet of characterization that I love to explore!

For the obligatory romance piece on this list, "Galaxia de Primavera" is probably it. I'm just really proud of the language in it. :)

Finally, "How to Insult a Forest God (And Other Misadventures)" is wacky, zany fun. It makes me smile even now!

Seriously, though, this is so hard! I have so many fics that I'm proud of, simply by virtue of having a massive portfolio. But, still, it was nice to scroll through and think about why I like certain pieces more than others. I'm proud of all my work, but some of them really do blow me away sometimes, after all is said and done and I review them. Like, wow, that came out of me? A nice confidence booster for the day! :)

30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?

Yes! I don't know what possessed me to start writing [i can't be wrong (to be craving you)] completely out of the blue, but that fic is largely free-form, stream of consciousness, which I hadn't really played with before. And I have to say, what I thought would be a six chapter fic turned into 100k words and it's one of my crowning achievements. I am infinitely proud of how it turned out. But I tapped into a lot of my own experiences to write a realistic look at Emily's PTSD and now....I can't even read the fic without having panic attacks. So that sucks, but hopefully one day I'll be able to enjoy it myself.

[Between You & Me] was quite fun to write because of the way I used flashbacks to move the narrative along and weave threads through the fic. In doing so, it made my timelines SO complicated. I have pages and pages of timeline drafts for that fic, each chapter was re-written multiple times. I would say this was my most frustrating fic to write in terms of chapter planning. But I adore the final product.

Final one I'll mention because it was such a weird little experimental fic, [False Flags and the Art of Misdirection] is SO underrated. It was basically like if Glass Onion was turned into a CM fanfic. Planning the twists and turns and misdirection was a BLAST. Then, I had to created the police 'transcripts' which were dialog from canon, but they wove the story together. It was such a fun fic to write and I'm so proud of it.

40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?

Originally when I first started writing CM back in 2014, I would write thing sin one sitting, post them to AO3 and never look back. I wouldn't even do a proof-read (sorry old readers!). I'd say out of my 80-ish fics from back then, I'd only ever read about five. When I came back to writing last July, I went through my original fics and read each one for the first time. There were tons I had no recollection of writing! So it was a wild ride. Now, I re-read my fics constantly! I read fic to my partner at bedtime, it's our cute little routine. They've never watched CM, but they've fallen in love with JJ/Tara/Emily through reading my fic (and me reading them fic from friends). I read them every new chapter I write and it's so special to share that together. [Take My Hand and show Me the Way] was the fic that changed everything for me. MJDuncan is incredible and this really is the cornerstone Jemily fic. I read this and went 'Oh god, I want to write JJ/Emily now!' and so I did, and so I continue to do nearly a decade later.

[Dreams, Schemes, and In-Between] is one of the best rom-com Jemily fics to ever be written. I actually became friends with @otahkoapisiakii bc I went to yell at them how much I adored their writing. Turned out, they felt the same about me. We've been platonically married for going on nine years now.

And now I'm going to come at you directly, because [(I'll be) a place to rest your bones] is one of the most beautifully painful fics I've read and it really stuck with me. I wrote a review on a Friday Fic Recs list, but honestly, I think your writing really helped inspire me as I wrote 'i can't be wrong'

"We call him the Alpha" just no, it doesn't sound as cool as you think it does, it's so corny.

I love how they re-enacted the interactions at the clinic for Scott and Allison, it's sweet. JR Bourne my love, I could feel your distress, but I have to say the bardo concept thing sounds weird (like, phonetically).

Lydia's reintroduction scene was glorious and how beautiful can this woman be??? She ages like fine wine.

Baby Hale in da place, such a fun scene! I mean what did Derek expect, keeping the Jeep at Hale Auto... Daddy Hale is a good look on him and suggesting they call Stiles... they're married, called it.

No seriously they keep mentioning Stiles and somehow don't even show flashback of him? Would love to be the tiny mouse in the copyright talk for this movie haha.

Malia and Parrish are a thing??? Where did that come from? I like that they lean into her non-commital communication styles and I did connect with their relationship (or lack thereof) immediately, especially when it becomes awkward with Scott later on (#thecure by the way).

I did suspect Chris has something to do with the release of the Nogitsune, that was badass.

Eli is such a Stiles rip off it's almost annoying, I like his back story with Derek's beta-shift more.

Allison is hot too wow, damn ladies. Melissa ROCKS obviously and Finstock still got it.

The partial memory recovery twist for Allison to turn her evil is the oldest trick in the book but I like the way they pulled it off. She's off hunting Derek and they're hopeless, some things never change.

Jackson is a delight and he's still with Ethan 15 years later, LGBTQ+ for the win. I am here for it.

Eli and Derek parallels with Sterek again, here goes the whump for Derek...

Sheriff Stilinski has the one and only braincell in this movie.

Peter is here baby, and I loved his entrance. I say: Melissa, Peter and Chris OT3.

I kind of feel bad for Scott's girlfriends (Kira, Malia) who came after Allison like what about his feelings for them??? I understand Allison was his first love and holds a special place in his heart but the others feel really swept under the rug.

Alpha roar check. It felt like a to do list at first but considering Eli's back story I kind of like it as a trigger for his own beta-shift.

For a moment I wondered between Kate and Harris summoning the Nogitsune but I'm kinda glad it wasn't Kate. Idk it feels more insidious with Harris.

Also I do like how the other Kitsunes are all brand new and not rip offs, it's more interesting, and I was interested in Liam for once haha, cuties the two of them.

Derek has better things to do than saving the world, he's too busy parenting... oh well, that was wistful thinking.

Finstock is so proud to say Greenberg and honestly so am I. I wish it was only Eli on the field though, Scott playing makes no sense and doesn't serve any purpose.

Did I just see Tyler Posey's ass when he scrambles up in the Nogitsune's illusion world??? I wonder if it was on purpose... also they messed up with his shirt it went from bloody to clean just to make the next blood loss more obvious...

I did like his attemps to reason with Allison and her big ass smile when he tells her he's still in love with her, but isn't it "burning the exact/same blend of wolfsbane powder into the wound to heal it" rather than just "burning it out"???

Peter going down on the ground to sniff blood that is right in front of him... you were a better werewolf than that before Peter... but banging Allison's head on the railing then Chris switching side makes up for it.

The aesthetics for the illusion in the colored rooms was GREAT and Lydia kinda broke my heart, but I'm glad we had this scene (also Jackson. you have a tail. with venom. use it???).

I will not adress Derek's untimely demise because why would he abandon his son, like Peter could have taken his place to hold the Nogitsune down? (also that twist with the werewolf bite was nice, I liked it, it made sense). plus Allison came back from the dead so he will too. In my fics. It's not a fix it it's canon compliant ;).

Why the fuck are they kissing when Derek just disappeared into thin air seriously. Poor Eli, really get someone else to take custody of you than Scott.

I feel for the Sheriff, seeing Eli like that must remind him of Stiles when they lost Claudia...

The little nudge at the end with Eichen House and there always be new teenage werewolves was so on the nose I loved it.

conclusion: I found it extremely fun, well paced with good aesthetics.

Made me want to watch the series (which I've been pushing off for fear of being disapppointed) actually.

So yeah unpopular opinion, but I had such a great time watching Teen Wolf The Movie I wish it was in theaters because it would have been great on the big screen!

I like don’t even know how to respond except to tell you how much this means to me, how it basically made not just my entire day, but my entire week (which has been especially appreciate as last week was kinda rough) and just !!!!! As for how I do it hahaha I don’t know that my time management skills are very good. If anything, I feel like my priorities are often out of whack. Like I didn’t meet my targets at work last year and that’s definitely due in part at least because of me focusing on writing and fandom things when I shouldn’t have been. (Part of it was not having proper childcare and just being absolutely exhausted and burnt out. The fandom stuff was my way of handling the burn out though soooo 🤷‍♀️)

In terms of the recs lists and such, it helps that I read fairly quickly. I also X out of fics I’m not enjoying fairly quickly. I DNF more fics that I finish. And being a frequent commenter means that if a fic sounds familiar, I can flip to the comments to figure out if I enjoyed it or not. And reading is my preferred method of relaxing so that works well for finding fics I want to rec. I email myself the good ones when I’m done with some key words for later, and then it’s just the write ups that require some real effort. And I guess I probably don’t need to go that hard buttttt I do lol

The writing definitely eats up a lot of time, but writing on my phone is a great way of making the most of the time I have since it means I can write when I’m lying down with my kids as they fall asleep or while riding in my car or waiting at the doctor’s office or whatever.

As for the housework...my house is kind of a disaster lol. No, it’s fine, just a bit messy but I’ve accepted that’s going to be the case with kids. My husband also shares in household and kid duties equally with me, which is huge. Like I really can’t overstate how wonderful my husband is. There’s no way I could do what I do without him.

Oh, this one was so good!!! The thing I love about literally anything Dee writes is that she just thinks completely outside the box. I feel like I never quite know what’s going to happen (in the best way!) and her originality totally made this fic amazing. (7k)

Louis can’t begin to understand how he’s always this close and still can’t manage to make Harry his. He stands up and gets another beer. AU. Louis studies astronomy; Harry studies Louis. They spend their summers on the water and it shouldn't be complicated (spoiler: it is).

This was such a good read! It’s written in such a way that you’re utterly sucked into the verse so much that you’re a bit sappy when the fic is over. Kinda makes you feel a bit lovedrunk just from reading it. (29k)

I have so much to say about this one! I had the absolute honor of beta’ing this 35k work (which im pretty sure i just cheerlead you bc nicole you know grammar isn’t my strong suit...lmfao) and honestly it has become a fic that i love so much! nicole is such a talented writer; everything she writes just brings out so much emotion from her audience, and she has such a great sense of characterization! if you liked this one, check out its sequel, Now I’m Moving Up because it’s great too!!!!

Okay. Okay. This fic literally is one I will remember for the rest of my life, and i’m not even being dramatic about it! So, I really do enjoy leaving authors detailed comments about their fics, but that just wasn’t enough... I really had to message Lauren this whole essay about how Heading for Limbo helped me deal with a lot of emotions I was feeling in my own personal life, and it helped me fully realize that i’m bisexual. (did i just come out?? yikes) it was nice to see a fic where things weren’t perfect over a long stretch of time. It was amazing to see Harry realize his sexuality later in life, because that was one of my main struggles. this fic is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. Human Touch by @snackhobi this one has a twist. The sex worker is an android named Taehyung who gains sentience and falls in love with the woman who looked at him and saw more than a machine built for her pleasure. This is honestly a beautiful story and at the end I was just so soft and happy.

Starfruit by @inkedtae is a wild wild ride on the camboy Hobi train. Features a curvy reader and oh my gosh it’s so sexy. This one made me laugh too. There is a fun little twist in the middle that sent me screaming. Truly a delight. I laughed and I sighed and I swooned.

Cyberslut by @kimnjss this one hits on one of my favorite tropes ever—good girl with a secret identity online. The reader has a hard stan thirst account dedicated to the college basketball star (Yoongi) who has no idea that his nerdy tutor is the online hottie tweeting about his hands.

Who’s Your Daddy by @ppersonna the reader is looking for a real dom in her life so she seeks one out on a website dedicated to meeting that particular need. She has no idea that the sexy dom she’s paired with is none other than her best friend who has been in love with her for years. This hot, funny, and delightful story of false identities and true love will leave you sweating and grinning guaranteed.

Dazed and Glazed by @floralseokjin Ok this story has been on a couple rec lists of mine and it will continue to be on many more because no joke it’s like a full on legitimate masterpiece. I could write a dissertation on this story. It’s flawless. The characterizations, the world building, the way the emotions build. There isn’t enough I can say about it. This story is special and features one of the hottest sex scenes like…ever. This is truly one of my favorite fics of any genre for any member and I do not say that lightly. The fun begins when the queen of good girl porn wants to retire with a bang—specifically with notorious porn bad boy Kim Seokjin ruining her in all the right ways.

In Motion by @yoonia is something else. I confess I came to her site because I vaguely recalled that she maybe had a sex worker fic but then I found this and I just COULD NOT LOOK AWAY it was incredible. I mean mesmerizing. The reader is invited to an exclusive voyeurism club where she ends up crossing paths with a handsome man who turns out to be her new boss—Jeon Jungkook! It was so incredibly hot. I couldn’t put it down. I’m serious just wow.

Simply.Cute97 by @httpjeon this is a spicy story about a virgin camgirl who falls for her favorite viewer—a hottie who also happens to be a camboy by the name of Jeon Jungkook. Their relationship is the wildest blend of filthy and fluffy and honestly it’s just a ton of fun the entire way through.

Ill-Fated by @sketchguk is great. What is a girl to do when she finds out that the bane of her existence and the gorgeous cam boy she is obsessed with are one and the same person? This is sometimes sweet, sometimes sexy and a pleasure to read all the way through. I can’t say I blame the reader for handling the situation the way she does. It all seems quite satisfying—if you know what I mean.

Playtime by @jungkookienoona is hot hot hot. This is a fun little cam porn love square. Two childhood best friends in love with each other. Both are cam performers and both are obsessed with the other person’s stream. It’s really just an insanely sexy and also an insanely thought provoking story. I giggled a lot because really it’s so cute, but also insanely hot. So be warned, this fic did not come to play—despite its name.

The Playmate Series by @scribblemetae is about a lovely girl who takes a job a ‘playmate’ for the boys of Bangtan. She caters to their kinks and discovers a lot about herself along the way. Obviously there are feelings and a lot of interesting twists and turns throughout. What a spicy ride! A lot of interesting thought and world building went into this one! You’re sure to be fascinated.

Show-Off by @taeverie is a fun little story about a lucky girl who discovers her roommate Hoseok is a camboy and ends up getting a live and in-person show. It’s a fun and quirky little snack that really hits the spot. My favorite part was when Hobi caught her watching his streams after she lied about it. Good stuff all around.

Notorious by @jungk0oksthighs this one is kind of fascinating. I really don’t want to give the story away, but literally by the end I basically just screamed. It was wild. Definitely give it a shot, but be prepared to have your jaw hit the floor. This author is quite good at eliciting that reaction.

A Matter of Shyness by @jjungkookislife this story is so cute! It’s about a sweet girl who is thirst following a naughty Snapchat account at the same time she begins growing closer to a classmate named Kim Taehyung. There are a lot of delightful reveals and genuinely sweet moments.

Éffleurer by @sugaurora is a fascinating and highly addictive story. This features as sex worker who specializes in a type of submissive performance deciding to enter into a submissive relationship with her gorgeous boss. I’m telling you it’s thrilling. Absolutely thrilling.

Obey by @jjkfire this is one of the most endearing and lovely stories on this list. It’s so sexy and hot yes but it’s like also a beautiful redemption song. The reader is a shy awkward escort who isn’t really an escort, she’s really just there to serve drinks and subtly discourage men from booking her, but she unknowingly enchants the very beautiful and very dangerous mafia boss Kim Taehyung and well… What’s a girl to do? The twist in the story is priceless by the way. I literally cried tears of moved beauty. It’s like that.

Kairos by @luffles424 yes I know. This one is an auto-include because I love it so much and it’s like super amazing and all. And if you haven’t read it yet then please don’t deny yourself any longer. Sweet omega college girl decides to auction of her first heat to the highest bidder and wealthy businessman Kim Seokjin cannot imagine who would pay for something like that… but then he smells her and all bets are off. This is honestly a beautiful love story and you know I am such a sucker for a/b/o done well.

Sexual Healing by @honeymoonjin features extraordinarily hot sex therapist Kim Namjoon and his quest to help the reader reach realization and release in this occasionally humorous romp. I really enjoyed reading this. Namjoon’s smooth certainty had me swooning, but it was the way he really encouraged the reader to explore and enjoy herself that made this an unmissable treat.

Out of Work by @jessikahathaway ok Jess full disclosure I read this before we were friends and it’s one of those stories that I ALWAYS think about (Jess’s writing will do that to you) and when I got this request I was like oh my gosh I have to include THAT Jimin story and here it was YOU that wrote it and I didn’t even remember! I love this story. It’s so incredibly fluffy and surprisingly romantic.

The Cockpile: One Shot Series by @httpjeon this is actually seven different one-shots (one for each of the members) each with their own unique setting. All the stories are themed around sex work and all of them are top notch. I highly recommend. Seven stories for the click of one link with this one!

Shutter and Shiver (Part 2) @pac-mang-blog this one was hard to track down but it was worth it. Submissive camboy cutie Jimin has a noona kink and a pretty project partner who watches his show faithfully. This author is great at balancing humor with genuine connection and it really shines in this unusual tale of Kim Taehyung’s friend who (after finding herself in need of money to finish school) agrees to an exclusive paid sexual relationship with the extremely wealthy Kim brothers (the Kim Line) in order to minimize scandals for their influential family. It’s filthy, evocative, emotional, and downright electrifying. I think I may have passed out during Tae’s scene and you’ll know why as soon as you start reading it.

Bam! You Got Scammed by @dovechim this is a wildly creative story. Truly. It revolves around a camgirl who is running a bit of a scam. Poor sweet Jeon Jungkook is double crossed and he decides to get his revenge in sexy satisfying fashion. This is a delightful story. I laughed and gasped and fanned myself the whole time.

95mochibuns by @gukptune this story is delightful in so many ways. Jimin is a camboy and the reader is a twitch streamer and they both (unknowingly) have huge crushes on each other that accidentally spill out onto the internet with lots of antics. Even their followers get involved. It’s sexy and hilarious and I always feel such anticipation when I read it. Even though I know what happens!

The Cambunny Series by @getitinbusan is a fascinating take on an idol AU. Jungkook goes exploring and sees someone he recognizes. The drama unfolds deliciously from there! This one was very hot! I had to stop and fan myself! The second part features Hoseok in a surprise guest capacity!

Take One by @untaemedqueen this story holds such a special place for me because I was really involved in helping D plan it. I knew from the first paragraphs she sent me that it was something really incredible. Min Yoongi is a super famous porn star and the reader writes fan fiction about him. Little does she know that he LOVES reading her work and starts incorporating some of her kinks and stories into his work! It’s so much fun and still manages to be both a great love story and a super sexy romp.

@sitp-recs - Witty, thoughtful, and oh-so-carefully worded, each of Liv's recs brings out the best in the fics described. Each time I see a new post, it’s a must-read! Liv creates such a kind and affirming environment that feels so special. Her themed weeks have left me utterly weak, going back to the masterlists over and over whenever I need a new suggestion.

@eat-yearn-cry - From when I saw the first four masterlists floating around to the absolutely fantastic posts now, I feel so lucky we get eat-yearn-cry's suggestions! Each of her recs is brilliant and informed, hilarious and sometimes sarcastic, and so clearly her. It’s an absolute joy to hear these thoughts, it always sends me straight to whatever fic she's poured her heart out about.

@dewitty1 - Dewitty has such excellent taste in fics, and always picks the best excerpts to share to get my interest piqued.  I love seeing her masterlists across my dash and getting to see both fics i’ve read and loved and ones I know I must check out based on her opinion.

@thedrarrylibrarian - The ex-library worker and lover of organizing in me absolutely swoons at this blog full of gorgeously-tagged posts. I can see how much work is put into curating an excellent repository of fic, and gosh do I love it!  I'm so looking forward to more of the Happy Hour series.

@drarryspecificrecs - Truly, I do not know how this blog manages everything, from fest recaps to daily recs, to answering endless questions and searching for fics. I remain in awe daily at the amount of excellent and beautifully organized content this incredible blog shares with us.

@dragontamerdame - Though I know Ash is no longer doing recs (and looking at their art, I cannot complain, what a beautiful application of their skill!) I still find myself revisiting some of their old lists because they are so well put together and so detailed, each one feels unbelievably comprehensive.

@dictacontrion - I’ve been a fan of Dicta's writing almost as long as I’ve read drarry fic, and I came onto tumblr this year to find a vast trove of daily excerpts and longer fic rec masterposts.  Each and every rec is truly a treasure!

@hogwartsfirebolt - I absolutely adore HogwartsFirebolt's Netfics rec list, not only because it features some of my favorite fics, but what a brilliant way of sharing the fic love? While the taste in fics alone is impeccable, I loved the way this is put together -- I wish I could open up Netfics rn and dive into some of these shared faves!

@onbeinganangel - Not only does Marion share her beautiful embroidery with us, but she has chosen to use it to recommend fics! From the soft cotton of her What We Do In the Shadows rec to the threads of the others, they always make me run straight to ao3, and the fic recs are never amiss.

@zeziliazink - Zezilia's ‘fandom classics’ series, part 1 and part 2, genuinely feel like penguin classics I could pull right off the shelf, plus they’re full of utterly stellar drarry fics! I love how Zezilia has applied an excellent definition of 'classic' here and I wish I had a shelf full of fics like this.

@rockmarina - I've found myself cackling over Rockmarina's meme fic recs on more than one occasion, enjoying them for both the funny and the intensely dramatic fics. They immediately make me want to open ao3 because they are always, without fail, an absolute joy.

@queercore-curriculum​ - I'm not sure if Queercore would be considered a fic reccer, but each time I see one of the gorgeous, gorgeous binds on my dash, I have two overwhelming thoughts: 1) oh my god, wow, look at that (and that, and that, and that, as I scroll through each stunning image) and 2) I must read this fic right away if someone has spent so much time binding it. We are so lucky to get to see Queercore's craft!
