the misogyny in the aitm fandom is kinda wild. there's three female characters and people manage to treat them all poorly in completely different ways. most of the time they're completely ignored in lieu of the male characters, particularly when people are involved in shipping the male characters. but when they're not ignored...

heather somehow gets demonized for doing the right thing. she is in a very similar position to will--but she's the one who gets unexpectedly pregnant. will's reaction is to fall into a depression and make his (and her!) life worse by doing nothing but smoking weed and drinking alcohol and making her pick up after his shit while she's pregnant with his child and after she's had his baby. it would've been better for her if will had just left; then she'd only have one baby to take care of. but will's the one who deserves sympathy?

whatsername gets misogynoir treatment--the fandom consistently believes that she is explicitly written to be a black character and then paints her as an aggressive, angry woman. letterbomb is obviously an iconic and memorable scene but her rage is completely justified. she spends the entire show before that being naïve, compassionate, and spirited. it's johnny who breaks that.

people just act like extraordinary girl is the most selfless and amazing unhuman madonna who exists to wipe tunny's ass and has no personal emotions, beliefs, or convictions of her own. granted, there isn't a ton of material to go off for her, but c'mon! everyone remembers the line "she's an extraordinary girl" but not "she gets so sick of crying"--isn't that an interesting line to base some analysis off of?

Nico/Jack: sad (because it’s short so hopefully I can handle it)

The park is almost empty, at this time in the morning, save for the few joggers that have decided to brave the cold, side-eye Jack as they run past him, seated on the grass, the morning dew slowly soaking his clothes.

He wouldn't be here, if he could help it, but he'd woken up this morning and he could feel it, the rage bottled up, the need to fight and bite and claw at someone's eyes until he made them bleed, and he'd had to remove himself from the equation, flee Nico's place before he turned it into a crime scene; break Nico's heart bad enough that he'd break Jack's back in return, and he'd be turned into a ghost that would never truly exist outside of Nico's apartment.

Jack cares about him, them, enough that he can't do that, can't let his fury make Nico into a target and lash out enough that Nico won't want him by his side anymore.

The words cut deep as he swallows them all, keeps them locked behind a box they won't accidentally exit and hurt anyone but himself, and by the time Jack feels confident they're not about to break free, the fury has been replaced by sadness, and his legs are cold and numb.

Nico is about to leave his place, when Jack turns the key in the lock and steps inside, but freezes, they both do, when they lock eyes.

"I was going to look for you," Nico says, and he doesn't sound mad, just concerned, and relieved, that Jack is back, and Jack doesn't hesitate, to step forward and bury his face in Nico's neck, wrap his arms around Nico so hard that it must hurt, but it doesn't matter, because Nico holds him back, and doesn't let go.

It is genuinely so frustrating how fandoms sees a disabled character and then make content of them w no research of their condition

guys i have not very scientifically accurate ideas cooking in my head about that scene where miles gets bit . a level bio come through (too lazy someone probably already made a post though maybe ill try to find one)

i will say general fandom's tendency towards self aggrandizing for (correctly) spotting grooming would be so funny if it wasn't so sad to me how it usually stops there, without adding a substantial reading of character x as having that background. like i recognise that for a lot of people this is a fandom hill from which to virtue signal, but for some it's not! 🫠
