i ♥ the interpretation that porsche sold pete out to vegas while understanding how fucked up and potentially catastrophic of an act that is. because that's a definitive testament to how pete has dehumanization baked into his entire role in this story even after escaping from captivity. he's surrounded by people who love him and care about him, but he's still made into a thing to be used and maneuvered and coveted and leveraged because he exists (both in-universe as a bodyguard and in more of a meta sense as a supporting character) to be useful to other people. which in turn makes pete quitting his job and vegas rejecting the pet thing hit so much harder for me. for the first time, pete gets to exist in a context where he's unambiguously valued as a person and not a handy tool or an obedient dog or a plot device.

Very interesting but it would not make sense to bring up Moses. We revere him, but he is just a guy, not comparable to Jesus, or the sacred flame of Zoroastrianism. We do have stories about people compelling djinn in Jewish folklore but they do so by pronouncing the name of God, not of any human being.
in the SHWEP episode on al-sakkaki they mention that like, classic sorcerer skill is compelling djinn but because djinni arent all muslim, theyre just magic fire people, if you want to compel a christian djinn youd use their christianity, "in the name of jesus..." if you want to compel a zoroastrian djinn you say "in the name of the light and the flame...", compel a jewish djinn you bring up moses. its awesome. im not sure how you compel an atheist djinn. maybe just physical threats

WIBTA if I asked my trans son to keep his deadname as a middle name?
So my son has recently come out as transgender. I’ve done my best to support him, although I still have room to improve since we come from a heavily Catholic country. As is common for transgender peoples, he has changed his name. I had named him after my late mother, who had never gotten to see him. It’s a very feminine name and I understand why he wouldn’t want to use it anymore. However, it makes me a little sad that it won’t be in use anymore.
would I be an asshole if I asked him to list his deadname as his middle name (or one of them, if he chooses to have multiple) when he turns 18 and legally changed his name?
if he doesn’t want to, I suppose I could always change my own middle name to the deadname, even if it wouldn’t be the same.
What are these acronyms?

my #1 elitist opinion is that if you are creating something that presents itself as a parody or subversion of a specific genre you should be thoroughly familiar with genuine examples of that genre

Nell the bananer slug has buttery yellow, hand painted silk body. I saw these little guys for the first time in 2019 while on Orcas Island, and absolutely fell in love with these slimy babies 💛

Chapter 57 - Life, Death And A Bottle Of Wine of Heaven Has A Road But No One Walks It is up! :D
On the seventh morning, a bird sang in Dushou for the first time in decades, life returning to the dismal ruins along with a hope of healing, or at least of peace.
Xiao Xingchen had spent all his free time the past week wandering the ruins, tracking down any remaining pockets of… not ghosts, nothing so violent or tangible – just lingering memories, whispers of horror and grief. He’d performed endless liberation rites and pacifying ceremonies, allowing the last vestiges of broken spirits to disperse and move on.
It had gotten easier once the other two recovered enough for Xue Yang to accompany him at times – he had an uncanny knack for sniffing out the lingering dead, both spirits and half-buried remains. Zichen joined them after another few days, albeit still having to move slowly, leaning onto him at times.
Xue Yang seemed satisfied enough with the rate of Zichen’s recovery – though he still stayed draped half on top of him every night, pressing a fistful of talismans to the stitched gash even in his sleep. Xiao Xingchen suspected that might have less to do with healing, though, and more with Xue Yang taking every chance to sleep curled up with Zichen, but carefully refrained from saying so, or smiling too blatantly at the arrangement.
They seemed comfortable enough.
-------
The disaster trio has finally worked through a lot of their issues, and grown closer than ever. Sure would be a shame if something happened that put all that to the test... 🙂
This is the longest chapter so far in the fic at a massive 13k, and also marks the shift into the final arc of the story - still a long way to go, but now we're on the home stretch!
Going into this, I was quite nervous introducing certain, ah, new elements (those surprise guest stars in the chapter illustration) though I did end up having lots of fun with it in the end!
As always, please consider commenting, it really does mean the world to me! Your feedback and encouragement is the fuel that keeps me going, both in writing this story and in life in general.
Thank you so much for reading. 💚

Since last night when we heard about the government launching drones to Israel because of Israel attacking the Iranian embassy building, there have three kinds of people here.
Some of us are laughing and making jokes about the possibility of war, not because we think it's funny, but because it's our coping mechanism. We've been going through hard times for years now.
Some of us are just... Empty of any emotion. We just don't care. Bad things happen a lot here, so what's one more bad thing?
And the rest of us... We're scared. I'm one of those people.
Remember the Mahsa Amini protests? Those protests weren't small or unimportant. Most of us Iranians hate our government. The government has been killing us and ruining this country for years now.
We're too worried about shortage of money and food and a home to live in to really care about anything else. We have bigger problems.
I'm not sure if this will help at all but I'm scared and tired of not speaking. I just wanted to make sure at least some people in the world would know that Iranian people really don't want this war.
I want to wake up tomorrow to be mad that I'm forced to wear hijab to school and be worried about my physics exam. I want to come back home to study because I want to be one of the people who will one day help build free Iran. I want to make sure we'll be known for our old history and amazing culture and happy people.
So understand why a war between Iran and Israel should not start. We're already fighting for basic human rights and in a war against our government. Isn't that enough war for one country?
