It's not Texas Chili (I'm so Lonesome I Could Cry)
2023
It's a quick edit, and leaves out a few images I want in the sequence, but I'd like to make a small softcover book to process some strong emotions I've been feeling lately. Kiss your homies, value your gut, and remember that respect should be mutual for all. Or don't. It's 3:00 AM here, take this with a handful of salt.
One image is a repost, apologies. I took a bit of a break from making photographs post the completion of my graduate program. I’ve been very interested in Scandinavian photo work from the early 00s and 10s lately, even more than during my studies. It’s definitely seeped deeper into my own work. Life has not been easy, but it also never has been. Hoping to find my way into Europe soon for at least a year to begin new work and finish up the work I started in France. Thanks for sticking around y’all.
Presented here are some preliminary images from my return to exploring the post-industrial United States, with a closer connection to blue collar living and employment. A huge critique has been my obsession with surface, I’m still wondering if that’s only because I don’t dive deep enough or those engaging with the work only really come from wealth and aren’t properly able to enter the images. Regardless, surface is still important in my honest opinion, especially given the established aesthetic and theoretical concerns of my work.
