mikasa and eren are both contrasting characters,

eren deals with a lot of insecurities, mikasa carries a lot of pride.

eren is constantly thinking about the future (quite literally living in it considering titan memories due to the founding and attack), while mikasa constantly thinks about the past.

eren is angry and impulsive, mikasa is calm and collected with a clear idea of what she wants to do.

eren allowed people to enter his heart including reiner and annie which explains his sadness finding out about their betrayal, while mikasa only concerns herself with the people that she loves and has no room in her heart to care about more after her trauma.

even in the way they love each other, all mikasa wants is to be by eren's side even if it means risking her life, while all eren wants is for her to be safe even if it means their separation.

and interestingly enough, their character development is basically becoming who the other used to be, in s4 mikasa starts to be more like eren from s1, and s4 eren is more like mikasa in s1

On Eren’s birthday let’s remember Jean loves him very, very much. Despite all the fights, fandom jokes and memes, he is openly willing to give up his dreams about his future with Mikasa, and fights to keep Eren alive as long as possible. He is his biggest critic, but he’s also defending him even when the others already consider him a lost cause. He doesn't want Mikasa to consider him a lost cause.

Jean wants to win Mikasa over on normal terms — with Eren as his rival. Not a ghost. He wants Eren to live for Mikasa’s sake, too. He would be jealous, but he would also be happy to see Eren and Mikasa together after the war. Jean really isn’t the “homewrecker” some people like to paint him as. On the contrary. He is the one making sure Mikasa remembers that Eren loves her.

The pain Jean feels when he realizes they have to kill Eren isn't the same as Mikasa's, obviously, but it's just as real. And Reiner can see that.

This is a very telling scene: during their training, Reiner used to be the one breaking up Eren and Jean’s childish fights. But this time he has to team up with Jean to end Eren once and for all. Something he never managed on his own.

And these two... These two understand each other way better than they let on.

Since I have nothing better to do, here are my AOT characters' sexualities headcanons (it's my opinion, pls be nice, homophobes DNI)

So anyway, Part 1 - The Scouts under the cut

Eren - demiromantic demisexual

Eren doesn't usually fall for people and doesn't think about romance, but when he does, he falls hard. He doesn't care about gender, he just needs to feel a really close connection to someone to feel anything. Also, he's famously oblivious to flirtations towards him, which is a popular inside joke among Scouts.

Mikasa - unlabeled

She’s very much Erensexual and that’s it LMAO But jokes aside, she really doesn't care and doesn't see a reason in labeling herself (not that it's a bad thing, she just feels like no name would ever truly fit her). What matters to her are her feelings for Eren and all her closest friends and that's enough.

Armin - pansexual

He doesn’t mind in general but he has a problem recognizing his feelings as something more than a friendship or admiration. He acts friendly and normal and then BOOM, that one special spark and, out of nowhere he’s an awkward ball of fluff. I feel like he just wants someone to talk to about the ocean and who will make him feel seen and safe <3

Jean - (closeted) bisexual

Marco was totally his bisexual awakening. Even though he knows nobody in the Scout Regiment will judge him, he's still scared to come out and every time someone asks him, he's very defensive about being straight (nobody believes him) (just look at him, very much chaotic bisexual icon 💅)

Sasha - heteroromantic asexual

Probably an unpopular opinion but I really don’t see her being into girls. I feel like the Scouts were initially surprised about it after seeing her being so close with Mikasa, but they are just besties. She’s sex-repulsed but will laugh at Connie’s dirty jokes. She’s a hopeless romantic though. She and Connie are platonic soulmates <3

Connie - aromantic asexual ❤️

He never got the appeal of romance or sex, and when someone was flirting with him, he felt really uncomfortable. His friends (especially Sasha) have helped him understand and come to terms with his feelings. He's also sex-repulsed but that doesn’t stop him from telling dirty jokes to others. He and Sasha are platonic soulmates <3

Marco - gay

I have nothing else to say other than the fact that I could never see him in any other way. The gay vibes are very strong with this one (just look at how he looks at Jean!!!)

Ymir - lesbian

She knew she was "different" since she was young, but had to hide it very well. Time spent on Paradis with her friends was the best time in her life because she could finally be her authentic self, without having to deal with homophobia and all the religious trauma, but also because she met the love of her life!

Historia - lesbian

I feel like at first she thought she was straight and then she met Ymir and truly realized something about herself. After that, she was proud of her sexuality, until she became the queen and realized how important her role was. Pregnancy was a hard time for her, especially knowing that Ymir was gone. But to not make it too sad I like to think that her husband was an understanding guy and tried to help as much as he could, while still understanding that he will never be the one and only for her 💔

I really love this scene for how simple yet complex it is.

From a young age Reiner was indoctrinated and manipulated into thinking that Erdians are devils, the worst people possible, subhumans even.

When he starts talking, you think he's gonna say something truly terrible. But what he's saying is just... regular teenager things. Sasha was eating when she shouldn't have, Jean is self-centered, Connie is a fool, Eren is hot-headed, etc. He's not saying things like "oh, they were torturing and killing innocent people and drinking a virgin's blood and stealing children". No, they were just teens being teens!

What's even better is that you can see how he's trying so hard to say and believe how terrible those years were, when he was clearly having so much fun with those guys, with those 'devils', with his 'enemies'.

And his family is terrified because it sounds nothing like they expected it to be. They are even more scared because Reiner could actually like those 'devils', which is impossible and just wrong in their eyes!

One of my favorite scenes in AoT. She's both funny and heartbreaking at the same time
