Yes, thank God for Quantum Leap! What really gets me are the amount of AI generated clxa fanart now popping up with Eliza being tagged. A Bellarke Analysis Through Bellamy and Clarke’s Other Canon Love Interests

Because, why not? (Just a disclaimer, I don’t find this analysis to be anti and won’t tag it as such, but I will be using the iterations of E/cho and L/exa just to avoid any possible drama)

Finn, as much as many people don’t want to admit it, was important to the show. Thomas McDonell was a main cast member in both season 1 and season 2. This was a relationship that could have gone somewhere for Clarke, seeing as he is Clarke’s main love interest in season 1. However, Finn is never meant to be a character that we root for Clarke to be with. He screws over two girls within the first five episodes; he doesn’t exactly have a likable foundation. Finn, from the start, was not planned to be a long-term love interest for Clarke, but a first love.

Meanwhile in Bellarke: During the Finn relationship, we have Bellamy and Clarke building a foundation for their relationship, a friendship, and a lot of understanding. We have Day Trip forgiveness and Unity Day flirting and the establishment of our co-leaders.

Gina, the poor soul, is a different kind of love interest. AKA, one that’s barely there. She has an off-screen development of her relationship with Bellamy and is killed off within two episodes (a travesty, #justiceforGina), but it’s clearly not meant to be a long-term thing for Bellamy. Leah Gibson is a guest star on the show and was never meant to be a long-term girlfriend for Bellamy.

As popular as L/exa was, she really falls into the same category as Gina. This love, while powerful and important, is never meant to last. Alycia Debnam-Carey was a guest star in season 2 and season 3, but not a main cast member. L/exa provides Clarke with a somewhat deeper love than Finn, but still an ill-fated love, never meant to last.

Meanwhile in Bellarke: During and after the CL relationship, we get a lot of Bellarke buildup. L/exa teaches Clarke that love is weakness, and then Clarke is willing to send Bellamy to Mount Weather (Hmmm…). There is clear strain in Bellarke’s relationship when CL is together, and particularly when Clarke decides to stay with her in Polis. Post L/exa, Bellarke rebuilds, stronger than ever, and the entirety of season 4 has them working together (save 4x11), culminating in 4x13, the ultimate Bellarke episode that was so Blarke-y, they had to separate the two for six years.

While L/exa parallels Gina, I think E/cho is the love interest counterpart to Finn. While she does have some Gina-esque qualities (off-screen relationship beginning), Tasya Teles, like Thomas McDonell, became a main cast member in season 5. So, why I believe BE is not a lasting relationship is the same reason I think Flarke wasn’t meant to be. It’s because E/cho, like Finn, is not portrayed as a likable character. In her redemption arc season (5) where the turn around from antagonist to protagonist is supposed to happen, we see her go head-to-head with multiple fan favorites (Raven, Murphy, Clarke) as well as a sympathetic new character (Shaw). Her actions don’t show growth as much as change in loyalty. E/cho being an unlikable main cast member is foreshadowing for the future breakup of BE.

Meanwhile in Bellarke: Clarke and Bellamy have a turmoil-filled season, relationship wise. There is drama, there are fights, but there are also hugs and reunions and so much emotion, culminating with Bellamy and Clarke back where they belong, together and… possibly on the verge of re-establishing that co-leader dynamic? I guess we’ll see.

My real point is here is that every love interest for Bellamy and Clarke since the beginning of the show has been a temporary one, for one reason or another. The writers have never set up these two leads with a couple that could really be meant to last and all the while, Bellarke was in the background, growing stronger and stronger. 

This relationship has been planned from the start, and the continual temporary love interests for our mains prove it. Bellarke has always been our endgame.
