Draw AU versions of your OCs! Do as few or as many prompts as you want, change up the order (I don’t have the energy to organize them lol), go crazy. Working title/tag is #ocAUctober because I’m bad at naming things and didn’t realize “auctober”was already taken on Twitter lol

Have a lil teaser of a project I’ve been working on, while I re-set up my socials so I can hopefully be more active on them!

POV you just walked in on The Corinthian committing a murder and both of you are more into it than you thought you’d be.
Or, if you’re boring, he’s just flirting with you menacingly and ISN’T covered in blood

i was wondering how did you get to your art style? also, THE COLORS, HOW, i suck at color theory, and u have such beautiful concepts. <3
Hello, dear anon and THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! 😍
I'd just quickly like to say that art style is something that never stops evolving but you are right – at some point, it becomes more distinguishing and how I personally got to that point (and know many, many others did too) is by basically "stealing" from your idols xD
Let me explain!
If you were to "steal" from just one artist, it'd be apparent, it'd be copying. That's why it's important to adopt "art parents" – several artists you admire and borrow different things from them aka try to incorporate different visuals from each one.
For example, the way I draw ears is heavily influenced by this artist I really admire. The way I draw hair – a different artist I admire. The way I color, the way I simplify, even what textures I use, each thing I got from observing different artists, and then as you put it in your art, it just kinda shapeshift into your own thing. It's important to not strictly follow the way your idol does it and change it and follow your intuition when you feel like it!
This is just a 100% way of finding your own style and I promise it's gonna work, just keep in mind It can't be rushed, it's like evolution xD
🌈AND NOW COLORS!!!✨
I gotta admit, I did study a bit of color theory BUT(t), it's mostly in two things for me – borrowing from others just like with style, and the amazing power of FINAL TOUCHES™ (click the gif for good quality)
It's been the most crucial thing for me to stop being worried about colors ALL THE TIME and just make sure the values are good (by checking how the image looks in black & white now and then). And this was possible by discovering the editing of colors via curves and color balance sliders in Photoshop (or Procreate).
My advice would be to just not worry about colors too much because they can be heavily adjusted in the end when all is finished. Perhaps, just try to keep your values in check (light and shadow making the image readable), and then when your thing is done, hit that CTRL+B (or find Color Balance option in Procreate) and play with these!
You can also go for CTRL + M /(or Curves in Procreate) for even more control.
Make sure you click the RGB and then select each color for individual adjustings, like so:
I recommend no more than 3 points for you to click and play with, one for highlights, one for middle tones, and one for shadows, this is a BIG BIG help and takes a lot of pressure off your mind, knowing that you can always make your colors "perfect" later.
I do this even if I think my colors are already good because let's be honest, if you're staring at the canvas for 5 hours straight, you can't be objective and 99.9% of the time these sliders elevate my colors in wonderful, unexpected ways!
(I could make a post tutorial on this topic all on its own if you'd like but hopefully, even this short one gives you something xD)
THANK YOU AGAIN!!! 💙
PS: Another example of before and after editing with curves and color balance

We gotta talk about why commenting in tags is poison for the artist.
Hey personages. I like and/or tolerate Tumblr culture as much as the next person, but we’ve got to talk about the habit of putting comments in the tags.
Everyone’s pointed out that reblogs are essential to artists and writers on tumblr because it’s the only way to get eyes on our work, but this goes beyond that.
I’ve been on this site for longer than I care to admit, but as an oldie and one who doesn’t like to have a lot of plugins running, I never had XKIT, so it is only now that I’ve had the ability to check tag updates on my posts.
And for years, I’ve felt like I was screaming into the void, my work apparently making very little impression, because people were posting all kinds of nice, encouraging comments… where I could not see them.
I had no idea people were saying things like this:
These kind, encouraging comments are all from the tags of one of my DynoGuard Art Roundup Posts. DynoGuard is a concept I’m trying to bring to series.
If the artist isn’t able to easily find this kind of feedback, then what hope does an almost certainly less technically savvy producer have? “I would watch/buy/play this” is the kind of comment that can help move the needle on a creator getting opportunities.
I’m not calling out people for doing tumblr the way tumblr is done. It’s just that the system isn’t working. As such, updates to that system are needed.
TL:DR Please, if it’s art, if it’s writing, put the feedback in the reblog comments.

being a self-taught artist with no formal training is having done art seriously since you were a young teenager and only finding out that you’re supposed to do warm up sketches every time you’re about to work on serious art when you’re fuckin twenty-five

Two drawings in less than twenty four hours! And they're both my DnD characters, lol. This is my first character, who got through two sessions of a campaign before it died for various reasons. Can't wait to put her and her grand total of five charisma to use again one day.

I haven't really drawn a lot in the past year, at least not stuff that's finished enough to want to post (yeah I know I could post WIPs but I just..... don't want to lol), but I've been low-key hooked on DnD lately and made a new character in preparation for whenever I get to play again, and here he is! I will eventually be posting proper intros for each of my characters over on a new DnD blog I just made @wolf-and-songbird (apparently I'm not allowed to tag it? Weird), but this is Damon, he's a big bi disaster, and I love him.

My intention isn’t to BOSS people around. But people who don’t create on tumblr really have to understand that if creators stop posting here, you won’t have anything else to like but maybe memes. If you want content to circle around to your dashboard... you have to pay it forward and reblog. That is why this website is dying. The Ban is not the only reason.
