The Marauders and the Ones Who Lived Chapter 36
âI saw him on the map one night so-â
âWhat map?â Regulusâ head finally snapped away from Siriusâ hands, eyes narrowed again as he glared at James.
âUh, a map of Hogwarts. I saw Regulus on the map, so I went to see him and he, um, well he yelled at me.â That checks out. âBut he was cold, so when I saw him again I-â
James was cut off by both Black brothers, speaking over each other, on very different tangents of the story.
âAgain?â Sirius asked, expression moving from incredulous to hurt and back to incredulous in a split second.
âWhat do you mean you saw me on a map?â
James, glanced between them, looking increasingly flustered and losing some of the confidence heâd begun with.
âW- I, yeah, I went back when I saw him again and I took the scarf so he wouldnât be cold.â James faltered off, gesturing towards the scarf on the kitchen top behind him, as though everything was explained. Except Remus had more questions now than he did before James had said anything. Given the ongoing interrogation by Sirius, he kept his mouth shut and listened.
âWhen?â Sirius asked.
âWhen did I give him the scarf?â
âWhen all of it?â
âErâŚâ James glanced at Regulus, but his face gave nothing away, scowling petulantly at James. âSixth year?â
âSixth year.â Sirius repeated, in that monotonous tone that spelled trouble.
âAnd, er, seventh year.â James admitted, looking anywhere but Sirius.
âSeventh year.â Sirius parroted again. Remus thought it was probably a good idea to cut this conversation off now, he could feel the frustration building up inside Sirius. Regulus had always been a sore spot for him, especially in those last years at Hogwarts, after heâd left home. They were in too deep now though. James couldnât seem to stop himself from talking and Sirius sure as hell wasnât going to stop pushing.
âJust, you know, I donât sleep so great and I would be awake and Iâd see Reggie's name and-â
âReggie?â Remus interrupted. So caught off guard by the nickname he forgot he was supposed to be helping to draw this conversation to a close. James shot him a look and Remus sat back in his chair, slipping his lips between his teeth, in a gesture he would keep his thoughts to himself. But Sirius hadnât missed the slip up either.
âYou were friends with Reg in school?â he asked, voice level and disconcertingly low.
âNo!â James shouted, panic flashing into his eyes as he watched Siriusâ gaze harden.
âNo?â Regulus asked, a quiet note of hurt behind his own composed demeanour.
âNo, yes! I- I mean, I donât know. It wasnât really, um⌠it was just- he, he was cold that first time, so thatâs why the scarf. Why he has the scarf, I mean.â James rambled, hands flailing in his explanation to try and placate both Black brothers at once. It didnât work for either.
Sirius continued to glare, although Remus was impressed he hadnât actually broken anything yet. Usually putting on the mask was Regulusâ go to, Sirius was more explosive. He wasnât sure which was preferable.
In true Regulus fashion, he had, in fact, schooled his features into his signature expressionless mask. No less cold than Siriusâ.
Lily looked to be the only one unconcerned. Hugging her mug with both hands and sipping happily, while she looked around the room, waiting for whose line was next. Remus bit his lip, wondering if this was an appropriate time to interject, as the silence stretched on.
âWhat fucking map?â Regulus finally asked again.

The Marauders and the Ones Who Lived Chapter 30, go read it for some Valentine's weekend fluff <3

âHey,â Remus held on to his chin, turning his face so he was looking at him again. He ran his thumb along his chin tenderly. âYouâre going to be perfect. This day is going to be perfect. How could the wedding of James and Lily Potter be anything less?â
Sirius smiled at the use of Jamesâ surname for the both of them. It sounded right.
Remus pulled him in and brought their lips together slowly, making Sirius' mind immediately cloud over. All other worries were forgotten and the only thing that was left was the feel of Remusâ hand against his jaw, still holding him in place while he moved to place soft kisses across his cheek and back along up to his mouth, kissing him deeper this time and making Sirius lean into him. He could feel Remus smile against him, as Sirius gripped onto Remusâ tie, pulling him closer, always searching for more.
They were broken out of their moment as the door banged open. Sirius immediately dropped his hand, but Remus kept hold of his jaw, so Sirius peeked out the corner of his eye to see who had disturbed them, unable to twist out of Remusâ hold.
âFor heaven's sake, we are on a schedule! No love-making until after the ceremony. Remus Lupin, we need you. Marlene managed to catch the bottom of her dress on a candle. We put it out with Aguamenti, so sheâs fine, but the dress is singed and Scourgify ainât doing shit.â
Mary stood in the doorway, leaning against the frame with her hip popped and her hand resting above it.
âIâll be right there, Mary.â Remus smiled, still making no move to let go of Sirius.
She tilted her head forward in agitation and raised an eyebrow when Remus didnât immediately jump to her rescue. Evidently going nowhere without Remus in tow. With a grumble of annoyance, Remus turned back to Sirius, gripping his chin a little harder and tilting his head back to a better angle before snogging him utterly senseless. Truly, Sirius had not a single sense. Until, quite abruptly, Remus pulled away.
âIâll see you at the altar, love.â He winked at him, straightened his tie, then strutted out past Mary who was sighing and muttering âhonestlyâ with a smirk on her face.

The Marauders and the Ones Who Lived Chapter 26 on AO3!
âWhat the fuck was that?â Peter angrily whispered, pointing at the dead rabbit and staring accusingly at Remusâ unconscious form. Sirius stepped into his line of sight, cutting him off from Remus.
âIt was a fucking rabbit, Pete. Keep your voice down.â Siriusâ voice was low and dangerous.
âAnd Iâm a fucking rat.â Peter snarled back.
âBoth of you, cut it out.â James said, looking between the two of them. âIâm getting rid of it. Sirius, clean up Moony.â
Remusâ face and hands were stained crimson.
âWould you be so willing to forgive him if it was a dog heâd attacked? Or a deer?â Peter challenged quietly as James stalked away, knowing their friend wouldnât hear him.
âThereâs nothing to forgive, Remus didnât do this. Moony did. Itâs our job to protect him and we failed.â Sirius bit out, trying and failing to remember a single, simple cleaning spell, with Pete blathering in his ear. They all knew the risks they were taking. This wasnât a game, they were protecting a bloody werewolf. Their werewolf.
âHe killed it, Sirius. Imagine if it had been one of us!â Peter hissed, still eyeing Remus warily.
âWeâre pack. Moony would never hurt us.â
âHe might be your boyfriend, but heâs still a killer.â Peter said coolly, but before Sirius could reply, Remus started to stir. James was already stalking back towards the clearing, shooting Sirius a âyou were supposed to clean him upâ look.
Remus scrubbed his face with his hands, smearing the blood further across himself and Sirius flinched. Pulling the cloak around himself Remus began to look around for his clothes. That was when he saw it. The red. So much red.
James got to him before Sirius could, holding the sides of his arms and trying to get him to focus on him.Â
âRemus, itâs okay, donât worry. We're okay, you're okay, no-one is hurt.â James was saying, but Remus didnât look like he could hear him, staring with round eyes at his hands, his face getting paler. Sirius saw Remusâ tongue move underneath his top lip, feeling along his teeth and next second he was pushing James out of the way. He lurched forward on to all fours, retching and gagging as the contents of his stomach emptied. More red.
Sirius ran forward, rubbing his neck comfortingly and brushing stray hairs out of his face, while Remus heaved into the dried leaves, shaking and sweating. He looked at Sirius questioningly, tears in his eyes that made Siriusâ throat close up. When he didnât answer immediately Remus swivelled to look at James.
âWeâre okay!â James started again, trying to reassure him.

not to go full bartylily delusion on main but there is something so compelling about them being the only ones in canon to get all 12 OWLs iirc? ⌠itâs about two characters being held to the exact same unrealistic standard of being Perfect and going in WILDLY different directions about it. itâs about lily fooling everyone into thinking she doesnât have any problems and barty fooling everyone into thinking heâs far worse than he actually is. something about wearing opposite masks but both masks being equally intricate âŚ..

Chapter 25: The Order of the Phoenix of The Marauders and the Ones Who Lived on AO3 <3
âSiriusâŚâ he murmured as Sirius found his lips, âWe have to goâŚâ
âWe can do a lot with half an hour.â Sirius replied, feeling Remus giving in and kissing him back reluctantly.
âWe have to-â Remus started, but Sirius just kissed him harder, cutting him off. He hastened to unbutton his shirt quicker and ran his fingers across the scarred planes of Remusâ chest, moving them down to the edge of his jeans and hooking his finger into them to pull him closer to him. Remus groaned into his mouth and followed Sirius further on to the bed, propping himself above him and caging him in. Suddenly, Remus very much seemed like the one in control and Sirius was more than willing to be directed.
Their bodies were flush together and Remus was moving against him and gripping the sides of his hips so roughly Sirius was sure it would leave a bruise. He let his head fall deeper into the pillow and closed his eyes as Remus kissed up and down his throat before tipping his face forward for him to consume his lips again. Sirius was in heaven, a wonderful, heart racing sort of heaven, the angels-
âShit.â Remus muttered, jumping to his feet as Sirius scrambled for his wand. The flat was screaming at them. An incessant shrill noise was ringing all around them. Sirius ran after Remus into the kitchen, his wand raised ready to defend against the intruder or curse that was creating this clawing effect on his ear drums.
The room was billowing with dark smoke and he found Remus wafting a towel near the small opened window. Sirius darted his head around, looking for the cause when the sound abruptly stopped.
âWhat in Merlinâs name was that?â he shouted at Remus, who was still waving the tea towel in the air. He huffed and pulled out a squeaky metal tray from the oven. He had tried to explain each appliance to Sirius, but Sirius had never had much need for a kitchen before and it was a steep learning curve. Hogwarts and Grimmauld Place had house elves, and the Potters had Effie, who always seemed to have something baking in the oven or stewing on the stove. Heâd mastered sandwiches a couple of summers ago, but the art of cooking edible meals was still fairly foreign to him.
âToast was on the grill.â Remus complained, pulling a couple of very black squares from the metal tray and throwing them in the bin. Grabbing another couple of pieces of bread and sliding the rusty tray back in.
âThe toast was screaming?â Sirius asked, wondering if there was a particular spell for overdone food to alert the chef. If so, it seemed like Remus may have overdone the spell a bit.
âNo, the toast burnt, it set off the smoke alarm.â Remus waved his hand above them, and Sirius looked up at the round box on the ceiling and frowned, that definitely hadnât been there when heâd bought the place. He jumped up to try and whack it off the ceiling but Remus caught his arm.
âWhat are you doing?â
âBreaking it, that thing nearly gave me a heart attack.â
Itâs supposed to.â Remus laughed. âEvery muggle home has one now, itâs to tell us the flatâs on fire.â
âBut the flat isnât on fire.â
âNo, but it could have been if weâd continued as we were and left the toast burning.â
Sirius stepped forward, pressing Remus against the counter of their narrow kitchen.
âSpeaking of continuing as we wereâŚâ He said softly, brushing his lips over the sensitive spot under Remus' ear lobe.
âNope.â Remus pushed him backwards gently and pointedly looked down, âYou need a cold shower. We have twenty minutes now, breakfast will be ready in five. Chop chop.â
