I’m finally watching Military Prosecutor Doberman and it’s been really good! Lots of action and I love the female lead who kicks ass. I’m halfway into the season. But I def recommend this one if you dislike fluffy romances and want something more action packed.

Finished Strong Girl which was the sequel to Strong Woman. I had a feeling that this wouldn’t be as good as season one since it was an entirely new cast. It’s in the same ‘world’ but the female characters were way stronger than in season one. Ridiculously so, now the family had ‘super speed’ and could fly. I was like, “bc the powers in season one weren’t enough?”
The main couple in this one ain’t got nothing on the couple from season one. They were still saying they’re just friends at the end of episode seven. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Like there were throw away comments throughout the season, and it felt out of place like the writers were like “oh shit we forgot the romance part of the show!”.
I hated how the mom treated the dad. It was really weird that on this show they made it sound like the main gal needed to ‘produce a female heir ASAP.’ Like yeah it was a joke the main gal’s mom wanted her to get pregnant in season one, but it was not brought up nearly as often.
The writing for everything was a huge disappointment. The only good thing was the cameo from the original couple from season one. If I make any memes it’ll be about how annoyed I was with season two.
Spoilery thoughts:
I hated the fatphobia of the poor brother. He was so bullied by the family that he turned to street drugs to try and lose the weight. When the dad brought up how the son was acting ‘off’, the mom brushed it off saying it was fine because he was ‘finally losing weight’. Then she acted all remorseful when he ended up in the hospital and I was fucking furious that he forgave the mom so easily.
Also the baddie was way hotter than the romantic lead. He had better chemistry with the female lead, even if the gal was lying to try and get answers regarding the drugs he was producing. And I’m big mad and called him committing suicide to avoid the consequences of his actions. 🙄

There have been multiple cases of the lead woman not respecting, “no” from the male lead. Not to mention the male lead stalking the female lead to her place of work. Like this sh*t ain’t romantic. I started bc I wanted a unique take on cupids which I’m getting… but at what cost? Luckily it doubles as a crime drama with a reincarnation plot line that’s been intriguing. But yeah, not rooting for the couple in this show bc theres too many red flags between the both of them.

The funniest part of Kokdu was these two, and that’s bc of their previous chemistry on Mr Queen. 😂

I finished it and it is officially in my top ten feel good kdramas along the likes of Weightlifting Fairy and Strong Woman Do Bong Soo (I’m watching season two now which has a whole new cast and only a cameo from the OG couple, and it’s not nearly as good as season one. The best part of season two was the OG couple. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m big mad about it).
I’ve been watching Twinkling Watermelon with my mom and we only have two episodes left. It is definitely going on the list to rewatch with Alexis bc she’s hard of hearing, so this one is probably gonna hit her in the feels extra hard. I was not thrilled the ‘dad’s bestie’ back in the 90’s was the baddie from Duty After School. I know it’s just acting, but lord did that show fuck with my psyche. Other than that I’ve really enjoyed the show.
Ryeo Un has a lovely smile and voice, it’s hard not to root for his character. And I liked Choi Hyun Wook from Twenty Five Twenty One with my dude Nam Joo Hyuk. For real tho, it’s been so nice having a show that surrounds accepting disability so much. Yes Cheong Ah’s step mom was an ableist piece of shit. But do you know how refreshing it was to see a group of teens learning sign language so their deaf friend wouldn’t feel left out? Can we please have more shows like this where the disabled people are accepted into a friend group super easily instead of being ostracized? Yes Cheong Ah started off that way, but it was so nice see the transition of more and more people accepting her. I thought it was also sweet that one of the other guys admitted to liking her too. It was so nice having another show with a disabled romantic lead. 🥹

In case anyone was curious or hadn’t seen the trailer yet. The main character is a CODA, a hearing child of deaf parents. He gets thrown back in time and meets his father and mother when they were his age. This is how it goes with his first meeting of his teenage dad. 😂

Why is this not the first time I’ve witnessed someone blow their bloody tissues out of their nose like this in a kdrama? 😂

This gets its own post, but Alexis has been sent pictures and the trailer for season two of Uncanny Counter bc she loves Kang Ki Young from King of Savvy, Weightlifting Fairy, and Bring It On Ghost. You all know she loves villains, so seeing him play one def has her intrigued.
Tumblr media
Originally I wasn’t going to show her the show bc as disabled people we hate the whole, “healed by supernatural powers” trope that season one did with the lead character. 😩 At first I was so stoked to have a cane user be the lead in a show, and then he didn’t need his cane any more. 🙃 But she’s gotta see her man play a baddie in season two.
Tbh it was def unique in their explanation of reapers or “counters” as they’re called in the show. Another fantasy kdrama showing us unique ideas. In season two it looks like the baddies will have similar powers, so that’ll be interesting. Season two was better than season one imo (I have watched it since making this draft).
We still have to finish up Under the Queen’s Umbrella but Alexis has been swamped by work and migraines, but be prepared for Uncanny Counter memes next year!

I just finished up watching Glitch, and omg was it satisfying. I was thinking, “You know I think this is the first kdrama I’ve watched featuring aliens… there had to have been another, I’ve watched so many…. Oh wait no there was Duty After School… but that show doesn’t count.” For those who haven’t seen my thoughts on Duty After School, you can read it here. I actively try not to remember that show bc it def traumatized me, and not in a good way.
Long story short, the plot of Glitch without too many spoilers is: the main gal can see aliens (however she does her best to ignore them) and believes her ex-boyfriend has gotten abducted/kidnapped by aliens. On her journey to find answers, she runs into a group of believers who become trusted allies. Seeking even more answers, they discover a cult whose religion seems to be about aliens. Chaos ensues. Playing the female lead as Ji-Hyo is Jeon Yeo Bin, who also played the amazing Cha-Young in Vincenzo, and Lee Eun Jung in Be Melodramatic/Melo Is My Nature. Both were other fantastic shows that I suggest you watch if you haven’t.
Vincenzo of course is about a character who was adopted in Korea by a mob boss from Italy (who takes him there to raise him abroad). Vincenzo has to find the treasure that was left to him in a building in Korea, and he ends up having to deal with a ragtag group of tenants that live in said building. He also has to deal with an unexpected foe while in Korea while looking for said treasure. Chaos, hilarity, and heartbreak ensues. Be Melo Dramatic is about three female friends in their thirties trying to get their lives together. You will cry with this one. But it was so great having three female characters that I loved, who loved one another and weren’t at odds over the male lead.
Anyway if you want a funny scifi show, definitely go watch Glitch on Netflix! Multiple scenes throughout the season had me in stitches and that credit scene left me wanting more (like the one in Hotel Del Luna. Iykyk).

Seo In Guk (from Doom At Your Service and Shopaholic Louis) had a live the other night. (Er morning, I wasn’t asleep by 4am my time when he popped on lmao). We got serenaded by him, which btw he has an amazing singing voice. I was laughing bc he kept mentioning pizza and cheese, and then he did a mukbang/ate the pizza on camera and was joking around about ASMR. It was a good time.

So most of the shows I’ve been watching have been super entertaining lately. See You In My 19th Life and King The Land on Netflix we’re both entertaining, and I’m more than halfway through From Now On Showtime. All three are on the list to watch and meme about with Alexis once she’s feeling better.
