OMG this is amazing it made me cry, I love it this would be a perfect Fanfiction

Marinette Todd.

Marinette is born to Willis and Catherine Todd and she has a six year old brother named Jason who adores her.

Willis, who isn’t actually Marinettes father, is a petty crook who’s not the nicest to his wife or children and Catherine is a drug addict who tried to get clean when she was pregnant with Marinette only to have fallen off the wagon a few weeks after she was born, meaning from the moment she’s brought home it’s Jason who feeds her and changes her and it’s Jason, who’s technically only her half brother, that takes her around their small, slum of an apartment singing a song he heard Mrs. Nunez from three blocks singing to her many cats.

When Willis goes to jail Marinette is five, Jason is eleven and even though he makes sure to drop Marinette off at school each day and that her homework is done each night he’s already ripping off car parts to not only help feed his mothers habit but to make sure Marinette has food in her stomach before she goes to bed.

Catherine dies not long after this, both Marinette who’s now six and Jason are now on the street and Jason is still taking care of her, she still goes to school even if her clothes are dirty half the time because Jason Todd will be damned if his sister can’t get out of Gotham one day, he knows he’s going to die in the city but Marinette? Marinette is going to do something big, he can feel it in his bones.

The streets is where Marinette learns to pickpocket; it’s also where Marinette picks up her love for fashion because when she’s done with her homework someone has to sew the holes in their clothing and Jason is terrible with a needle.

Marinette is seven when CPS catches up with her and Jason and they go to separate foster families. Jason’s foster family isn’t the nicest but he stays with them for three weeks because he gets to see Marinette.

Marinette’s first foster family are Sabine and Tom Dupain-Cheng, a loving couple who can’t have children of their own and they fall in love with Marinette, and after four weeks they decided to adopt her.

She doesn’t have a middle name and when they ask if they want her to be a Dupain-Cheng they don’t erase Todd; she just becomes Marinette Todd Dupain-Cheng, and it’s a clunky kind of ugly name that doesn’t flow but Marinette writes it a hundred and one times and Jason smiles because his sister has a family and she’s safe and fed and has a roof over her head and she’s safe.

They don’t make her stop talking to her brother and they always make sure to have the couch ready for him because they aren’t going to stop him from seeing Marinette, especially with how much see adores him.

They’re thinking about adopting Jason too when he stops coming around; and it’s not because he wan’t to, it’s just one of the days he went to pick Marinette up from her new nicer school he heard the kids teasing her about having a street kid for a brother, about having been a street kid herself and he only wants what’s best for her. It’s all he’s ever wanted.

Tom and Sabine, after a week with no Jason, go to the police who don’t really look for him and after three months Toms father calls, Toms grandfather passed away and left Tom the old Dupain family bakery back in Paris and if he wants it it’s his.

They want it, god do Tom and Sabine want it but they can’t leave when Jason’s missing, he’s not their’s biologically nor is he theirs legally but he’s their son all the same. Marinette’s eight now, and Jason is fourteen. He’s taken in by Bruce Wayne.

Jason, in nicer clothing and in a fancy car, with Bruce, comes by the Dupain-Cheng apartment and he hugs Marinette who’s sobbing because he left her and he hugs Tom and Sabine and he see’s the file Toms father sent over about the bakery and when they tell him they can’t take it, that they’re going to sell it, because how can they leave him behind and take Marinette away from him, he tells them to go for it. Bruce is going to send him to a boarding school anyway so it isn’t like he’s going to be able to see Marinette like he had been when he was on the streets.

Marinette likes Paris, she carries a picture of her and Jason around in the wallet he won for her at an arcade and they take every three days on the phone- they practice their French together and every so often slip back into Spanish because that’s what they grew up listening to -and she tells him about the friends she’s made. A boy named Kim, who’s mother knew Sabine growing up and a boy named Nino who was new to the country too and he tells her all bout his English class and how one day when he’s a famous author he’s going to write about a girl named Marinette and how she saves the world.

Jason goes back to Wayne manor and he becomes Robin and on a trip to Paris to see Marinette he tells her that. Bruce doesn’t know and it’s not like Jason tells Marinette who batman is, just that he’s Robin and Marinette’s eyes sparkle because she’s always known her big brother was a hero and now everyone else will too. Jason feels his heart warm because who cares if Gotham and the world likes him or doesn’t his sister thinks he’s a hero.

Jason died. He’s fifteen and Marinette is nine and Bruce Wayne tells her himself. Standing the bakery Bruce tells her there had been an explosion; the Joker and he cries. Marinette stands there because her brother isn’t dead he can’t be. He is; Sabine want’s to rage against Bruce because how could he let Jason go off alone in Gotham they all knew how dangerous the city was but she can’t because just like she lost a son Bruce did too. The Dupain-Cheng’s go back to Gotham for the funeral and that’s where Marinette meets Dick Grayson.

She already knew Alfred who’s knees she hugs and she already knew Barbra who picks her up and holds her close but three hours before the funeral is where she meets seventeen year old Richard Grayson and when she breaks down because he was Jasons brother, right? Why hadn’t he protected Jason like Jason had always protected her?

She knew her brother was Robin and she got that but on one hand who cared, Dick should have had Jasons back. She tells him that and Richard just takes it until she’s nothing more than a pile of sobs, apologizing because that’s not fair and she’s sorry and Jason wouldn’t want her acting that way, blaming him.

Marinette goes back to Paris with Dick Graysons number in suitcase because he’s guilty. He knows he should of had Jasons back, he should have been there and he won’t fail his sister like he failed him.

Marinette keeps up with the Grayson-Wayne family until there’s a new Robin; Marinette doesn’t know that Bruce is batman but when Bruce Wayne and his newest ward make the television just as Batman and his newest Robin do too she cuts off all contact. If Batman and Bruce were going to replace her brother with a newer better version fine, but she wasn’t going to watch.

Marinette gets her Miraculous when she’s fourteen and when Tikki tells her she’s a hero she looks in the mirror and sees Jason looking back at her because Jason was fourteen when he became Robin wasn’t he? Did he feel like the wight of the world was on his shoulders when he put the costume on too or was he too busy rushing head first into the trouble to feel it?

She tells Tikki about Jason and her parents and Gotham but she doesn’t tell Tikki that when she’s done with Hawkmoth she’s going to find the Joker. She won’t kill him, maybe, she doesn’t think she has what it takes but she also doesn’t know what she’ll do when she does find the murderous clown because he killed her brother.

Chat’s not her sidekick; people keep calling him that but he’s not. Her brother was a sidekick and he died; Chat keeps dying. The first time it happens, after Timebreaker, despite having come back, Marinette throws up. She’s going to lose Chat too, isn’t she?

Alya doesn’t know about Jason, no one but Kim and Nino know and they don’t mention him. Some days all Marinette want’s to talk about is Jason and how when she was seven and on the streets he once stole a whole cake from some rich kids birthday party in the park because it was her birthday and if he couldn’t get her a real present he was going to at least get her a cake. Other days when she hears the name in the halls all she wants to do is cry in the bathroom; losing your brother doesn’t get easier.

She’s boy crazy, she’s Paris’ hero, Marinette dose everything she can to not think about her brother because she can’t feel this way, not with Hawkmoth ready to pray on her emotions. But god, sometimes all she wants to do is let her grief consume her.

Marinette is fifteen when she and Chat talk. He tells her all about his mother and how she could be dead; she probably isn’t and just doesn’t want him anymore. Dose it make him a bad person if he hopes she is, if he rather her died loving him than living a life not even thinking about him?

She tells him about Jason; not that he was Robin but that her brother is dead and that he raised her. They were street kids until they weren’t and no wanting his mother to have died loving him doesn’t make him a bad person because on the very rare occasion she thinks about her father she hopes the same.

They talk more after that; Chat can’t talk to his father about his mother because that’s not allowed and he doesn’t want to make his friends worried by talking about her to them; and Marinette tells him most of her friends don’t even know she had a brother, or was a street kid or that she’s technically an orphan.

They’re partners, Marinette is still very much in love with Adrien but sometimes when her and Chat are on a roof just talking- not even about his mom and Jason or their childhoods but about how she hates physics and he rather chew his arm off than write a comparative essay -her heart beats a little faster. But only sometimes.

It’s a lie. The sometimes part; Marinette kisses Chat one night unprovoked because he looked beautiful under the lights of the Effle Tower and she just couldn’t help herself because they more they talked and the more they connected the more she’s kept wondering just what his lips feel like.

They’re not a couple because they can’t be until the masks come off and they both know that can’t happen until Hawkmoth is defeated but they’re something. Marinette doesn’t announce she’s over Adrien, she just takes his face off her walls and deletes the pictures on her computer. She keeps the gifts because she can see them being friends for life and well at least that’s one less person she has to worry about come Holiday time.

Jason’s alive.

Marinette is sixteen- almost seventeen -and she’s walking out of school with her friends when she sees a young man standing against the iron fence and there’s white in his hair and a scar on his face but she knows those eyes. She knows that face. She knows that’s him. She drops her books and she ignores her friends- Nino and Kim are standing there because he’s dead they know he’s dead they held Marinette as she cried when they were all kids -as she runs to him because he’s alive.

He hugs her so tightly it hurts; the metal of his leather jacket bites into her but she hugs him back twice as hard because he’s alive! She’s crying. Sobbing really. Her brother is alive! He’s there. He’s in Paris with her, safe and sound she she doesn’t care what deal with the devil was made or what price she’ll have to pay now that she has him back because he’s back. He’s alive.

Adrien asks Nino who that is because Marinette and this stranger are slumped against the fence hugging and crying and every so often he pressed a kiss to the crown of her head. Nino tells him that’s Jason because he’s seen pictures of her brother and white tuff of hair or not that’s Jason Peter Todd. But that can’t be because he’s dead; and Nino says that and Adrien freezes because he sees it; Marinettes hair is longer now and it’s in the same ponytail his not-really-girlfriend keeps it in and she has a dead brother named Jason and Adrien asks if Marinette was born in Gotham.

Nino doesn’t know better than to tell the truth so he dose and it clicks in Adriens brain. Marinette’s his lady and that’s her dead brother.
