When I was young, I met a boy with a red cloak.

For he had traveled from a far away land on ship where he would come and go. We played and played, day after day, just the two of us, until one day the boy left for good. Father told me never to trust the boy in the red and pulled the sheep’s wool from my child eyes. For I must grow up and be a wolf. Wolves do not play or run off with others. Wolves have to fight and be symbols of pride for its people. Wolves had to defend their pack from anyone. Wolves had to fight, and kick, and bite- and so I did. When Years later, as red stained the field- crimson of a shade as the cloak you bore- there you stood. Yet where the boy once stood, only a wolf like I remained. Your purple eyes melting into mine, lighting a blaze of anger and mourning which swelled up into my throat as I watched you carry those bodies of your fallen into those ships.. as I watched you leave me again. Soon, I saw you once more. Two wolves who had to claw and bite and slit eachother’s throats then sitting across from eachother as the fathers shook hands- no emotions allowed to be born. But now… now it’s just the two of us- the two of us without pride or packs to represent. The two of us who are wolves who could claw and bite and kick and punch, like we did for years before. But, when I look at you, your figure in my arms and your limbs entangled with mine, and hear your voice, not being the growl or howl of a wolf- but the soft voice I remember from when we were young, I do not feel like a wolf. I feel human… and I wish to be human with you.
