taaboh:
Tohru kisses him so softly, so lovingly, that every muscle in Takayuki’s body melts. The sigh he lets out is as relieved as it is happy, and he wraps his arms around Tohru’s frame to pull him close in a hug (never mind the fact they’re naked and wet in a shower).
Once he pulls away, he purses his lips and raises a brow. “What even is open at this time?
“And am I gonna get to see you make a phone call with nothing on?” Unspoken, of course, is the ever-so-suggestive that’d be pretty hot, actually.
“No clue, actually,” he sighs as Takayuki’s inquiry makes him realize just how late it is. “Maybe I can just call Kaito and ask him to bring something over. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind.”
Though, at the thought of making any type of call naked, his cheeks go bright red.
“If you’re good and don’t fight me on getting you dried off and to bed, I’ll do anything you say.” He leans in and presses his lips gingerly against his forehead before turning to shut off the water. “Come on. Let’s get you settled in for the night.”

taaboh:
“Really?”
Another dish is rinsed and set aside, as neatly as all the others that came before it. Most people might find Tohru’s answers cutting, and Takayuki won’t lie about his being less amicable than the rest of the Clan, but the Force tells him not to dwell on the last part of his speech too much. What’s truly important is everything else that came before.
Tohru’s distaste is unmistakable, but there’s something else there that Takayuki clings onto– a stupid hope, maybe, but his masters had always told him to trust the Force to lead him where he needs to go.
“If that were true, you wouldn’t have answered, I don’t think.”
He holds his hand out for the next plate.
“…actually, it sounds like you want me to do better.”
While Takayuki may have been onto something in thinking that Tohru thinks more of him than he let on, but he’d be damned if the Jedi knew that. In fact, it’s a part of himself he’s rather... ashamed of.
There’s been a twist in his gut whenever he’s around Takayuki ever since they first met, and while he’s never wanted to admit it, he knows exactly what it is. Even though the Mandalorians support relationships of all sorts, it’d be shameful to involve himself romantically with a Jedi.
Not that Tohru ever would want to, of course.
“In what way, pray tell, do you think I want you to do better?” he huffs as he hands the plate to the other, wishing he’d just drop the topic altogether and leave him be. It’s easier to deal with his conflicting emotions about the other when he simply wasn’t around.

taaboh:
Takayuki shakes his head, but he does offer a slight smile. “Moroboshi-sensei plans on taking the first train from Shinjuku later. On Yagami Tantei’s dime, but shelling out twenty grand and some change is still better than what the hospital’d charge me.
“Think it’s better I take it easy for tonight…” Tucking some wet strands over Tohru’s ear, Takayuki hums. “And maybe get a little comfort from my boy?”
His smile grows wider, cut lip and all.
“I don’t want to think about being scared any more. Not now that you’re here.”
Toru knows he should be ashamed that Takayuki was the one that had a life-threatening experience, and yet, here he is, comforting Higashi as if he’s the one struggling the most. But Toru knows Takayuki might need this deflection just as much as he needs the comfort.
A warmth spreads through him as he’s referred to as Takayuki’s boy, silently loving how it sounds from the man.
“I’ll take care of you,” he breathes, leaning in and pressing a tender kiss to his lips. “Do you want to order in?”
It’ll keep me by your side the whole time.

taaboh:
It’s not often he gets to see Tohru like this– openly vulnerable, openly afraid. The fact he’s sitting with his back to the shower leaves no room for doubt when a tear slides down his cheek, so Takayuki raises his hand to cup it and trace the rise of his cheekbone with his thumb.
“I’m sorry,” he says, voice low. “I shouldn’t have gone in alone.” Even if, chances are, he’s only going to pull stunts like this all over again.
“You did good,” Takayuki promises, tilting Tohru’s head down to kiss his forehead. “It’s because you noticed something was wrong that Kaito-san and Sugiura found me, you know.
“I owe you one, Tohru.”
No one else outside of Kaito has seen Tohru in a state such as this in his adult years. It’s still strange being able to remove every wall of his with someone else, but he’s grateful that all judgment is lost with Takayuki.
They only serve to crumble further as he feels the firm press of his partner’s lips against his forehead. Of course, even after dealing with something so traumatizing, Takayuki’s seemingly more concerned with Tohru’s state of mind.
“You don’t owe me anything, Taka.”
He fights every inclination to hold Yagami tightly, not knowing the full extent of his injuries just yet.
“Did you get yourself checked out?”

taaboh:
Anywhere else, among anyone else, Takayuki would’ve said he was fine. Tohru’s hands are so gentle though, so familiar, that it’s like he takes whatever sentiments of bravado Takayuki might be wearing along with the blood.
So he says, “I feel like shit.” But as Tohru pushes his hair back, Takayuki’s eyes open again, his brows tilting outward in slants as he smiles. “Better now that you’re here, though.”
There’s crusted blood on his chest, and some of it on his belly from when he’d vomited it out and was made to lie in his puddle as he was kicked from every angle. Takayuki’s not proud of it. In fact, he feels anger bubbling under his skin just remembering it.
His fingers slide up Tohru’s sides, exploring his chest before they settle on either side of his neck and lock fingers on his nape.
“I almost died there.” A beat. “They had a chainsaw.”
Higashi knows. He knows he almost lost Yagami. But hearing him say it as he looks up at him like that utter devastates him. His lip quivers as he has to tear his gaze away from Takayuki’s, face scrunching as his brave face continues to falter.
“I know,” he chokes out. “If something had happened to you, I would’ve-”
Tohru cuts himself off as a tear strays from his eyes.
On top of the fear he felt the entire time he waited for word from Kaito, guilt bubbled violently in his gut because he wasn’t there to help. If something had happened to Takayuki, it’d be on his hands too.
“I was so scared, Taka-san.”

Takayuki’s hum is low and just this side of amused. “It’s definitely true. Getting you to hang out with me was hard then, but it got even harder after I passed the bar. Though I guess I should’ve expected that.”
In a way, he can’t say he doesn’t understand it. Yakuza aren’t exactly known for spending their time with civilians, both for the sake of their code and the fact that civilians often don’t want anything to do with them. Takayuki’s a special case; he has enough awareness to know that.
Looking at Higashi’s bowed head, his lips curve the slightest bit.
“I’m glad to see you around more now, though. Your help with Yagami Tantei’s investigations has been invaluable, Higashi.”
Tumblr media
While Higashi’s expression may not have changed outwardly, his heart flutters slightly in his chest. Even if Yagami was essentially yakuza in all but title, he won’t let his guard down around Yagami, not even remotely.
Toru even finds that he wishes he could well and truly hate the man, but at the end of the day he’s good and kind. No, he’s not family to him like Matsugane and Kaito were, but he knows full well that there’s an affection there towards him. Even worse, Toru’s aware enough to know that there’s some sort of feelings he keeps shoving deep down towards Takayuki.
And while it’s not entirely a lie, to keep Yagami at arms length even still, he offers a gruff, “I did it for aniki.”
Though, after a beat, he adds, “I’m glad to have helped, though.”

It’s difficult for Higashi to express himself, even still. Ever since Kaito-san’s been excommunicated from the clan, Toru’s found himself hardened in nearly every way in order to survive in the Yakuza and world in general. He dislikes struggling being able to open up, and yet, he’s grateful that someone like Takayuki understands.
“You weren’t answering Saori-san.”
The words themselves are to the point, but the voice that carries them is soft, reflecting the concern he’d felt since realizing something was wrong. Even when in the middle of something, Yagami makes sure to answer the call or ignore it outright, at the very least indicating he’s okay in some way.
But there was nothing but the ring and call to voicemail.
His fingers gently but diligently moves the sopping strands from his face as he continues to clean the blood off of the other.
“Are you feeling okay?”
@easterntojo sent: 3)  our muses take a shower together to wash blood off each other. 👀👀👀 ► from here.
“I can’t believe you came to Ijincho.”
But here Tohru is, sitting with him in the shower and delicately running his fingers through his hair. Takayuki stares at his collarbones through blurry eyes, tired beyond all reason, and when the light of the bathroom becomes too much for him to bear he shuts them instead.
“Saori-san told me you were the one who told Kaito-san something was wrong,” he says. On touch and muscle memory alone his hands drift, catching Tohru’s sides without really gripping them. If there’s any hitch in breath, he’ll feel it, but after being so close to death, after having so much control ripped from him… in a way, it’s good to have things he can expect again.
“You’re a worrier even all the way in Kamurocho, huh?”

taaboh:
When Takayuki was first named a Foundling and made an official member of Clan Matsugane, he was given the incredible privilege of seeing the faces of all those he lived with. Not long after that, however, he became obsessed with the possibilities of what lay beneath Toru’s helm, and only because he was the only one who refused to take it off around him. Now, with a handful of namedays spent with Matsugane as his buir, he tries to remember if he ever expected Toru to look so pretty back when he used to imagine it. He’s certain he’d convinced himself Toru was butt ugly for his own sanity, if nothing else.
Seeing Toru without his helmet makes Takayuki’s eyes widen in shock. The only reason he stops staring at all is because Masaharu elbows him, telling him that your food’s gettin’ cold, Tak’ika. It’s a little embarrassing.
Takayuki goes through the rest of the meal in silence despite the chatter around him, though his eyes keep flicking back to Toru here and there as he eats. He memorises the sharp juts of his cheekbones, the lines of his jaw, the length of his lashes. He even glances briefly at his mouth before looking away again, as if afraid he’s done something wrong. But, Force, if Toru doesn’t pout a lot more than Takayuki thought he would.
Later, when they have to do the dishes (they’re the two youngest, even if Takayuki’s older by only a few namedays), Toru’s helm looks a lot colder after being able to see his face. So Takayuki finds it impossible not to speak.
“You hate me that much, huh?”
Toru’s movements cease momentarily as he hears Takayuki speak up, eventually continuing scrubbing the dish clean as if nothing had been said. Truthfully, he’s surprised that it’s taken so long for the jedi to speak on the matter. It’s also only then that he realizes he’s not entirely certain it’s as simple as hating him.
He’s grateful that he’s had the chance to put his helm back on before being bombarded with such a question, but then, taking it off to begin with was a great deal of the current problem.
Higashi proceeds to finish drying off the plate and setting it in its designated area before finally stopping and looking at the other.
“To hate you would mean you’ve ever held any place of importance in my life,” he responds bluntly. “We have no relationship or ties, no matter what Matsugane says. You may know our faces, share a home with us, eat at our table, what have you, but you’ve neglected to make the same vows every single one of us have. To make my point even further, you’re a jedi. The fact Matsugane has allowed you these privileges, let alone your presence here, are something I will never understand.
“So, no, Takayuki, I don’t hate you, but I also don’t care for you.”

@taaboh May the Fourth be with you/Happy revenge of the fifth
Higashi is furious. For years he had avoided taking off his helm around Takayuki, and for some reason, that night, Matsugane had decided that he had had enough of his rudeness. Takayuki is clan and will be treated as such.
Clan, Matsugane says, and yet he doesn’t don a helmet. His face is visible for all to see. Foundling he may be, but the expectation to follow the way was not put on Yagami. What difference does it make that he’s a jedi? If anything, shouldn’t he have to choose? Even without any path chosen, Yagami clearly has a soft spot in Matsugane’s heart...
And he only served to resent him further.
Still, he swallows his anger down and eats in silence. He dare not go against Matsugane’s direct orders, but he certainly doesn’t have to chum it up with the outsider.

Takayuki’s certainly mashing at buttons when Higashi comes to his side, but the sound of the other man’s footsteps and the mere sense of his presence is enough to get him to drop his controls. His character dies and Takayuki doesn’t think much of it; he just smiles as he swipes the last few coins Higashi had given him from where he’d placed them on the machine.
“Good to go?” he asks, and at Higashi’s affirmative he pockets the coins for later and leaves the arcade.
It’s bright outside, but it is close to noon. Takayuki stretches his arms up over his head, stiff after playing so much video games, and then starts the walk to the ramen shop.
“This is probably the first time we’ve had a meal without Kaito-san in…” Takayuki tilts his head slightly. “Eh, since I stopped living with oya-san, probably. Right?”
Tumblr media
A soft hum buzzes behind his lips in confirmation before they head out of the arcade.
Truthfully, he almost expects a silent stroll as they move to the next location... but, then Takayuki speaks and Toru realizes it’s stupid to think things would ever be quiet around the other man.
Higashi adjusts the glasses on the bridge of his nose, trying to shield his eyes from the sunshine as best he can.
“That’s probably true,” he mutters, his head ducked down slightly and his hands stuffed into his pockets.
It’s difficult, making conversation with Yagami. It always had been. Sure, he knows he’s a good deal more critical of the man than he should be, but it’s all an act. He’s always had a sense of admiration for the man, but it was different than what he felt for Kaito and Matsugane. Even still, he has no idea what exactly that difference is.
