Playing a pf2 game (I’m 1/5 of the PCs) and I HATE IT when players make main character players. A character was introduced in the last session and the dm had to lie about this “npc” not being the character, in the first combat they were much over double the level that all of us were at, and it made me fucking hate this character bc the dm put us in an extremely difficult (very easy for tpk) combat where this “npc”/this guy HAD to be introduced. The entrance was basically the equivalent of a “my character soars down on a meteor”. Not only do I feel like shit in this encounter, but there’s no actual reason for me to want to work with this character because of how “strong” and “knowledgeable” they are.Because this isn’t a solo game, it’s a TEAM game.

This is more of a PSA for other people making their characters for any ttrpg game, think of others and how they are going to connect with ur character, and this is a party game. Not a u game.

as of 22nd April 2021 we have about 16.3M new cases and a death toll of 187K . Only about 1.4% of the population has been fully vaccinated yet.

on top of that, we've been facing a major shortage in oxygen supply (to the point where the govt has decided to airlift oxygen from other nations), a shortage in hospital beds and services. The numbers keep rising and with the spread of the new strain, the scenario has transformed into something deadlier than ever.

our infrastructures are falling apart and we need all the help possible at this very moment so the nation can be atleast saved when there's still a chance. Story Structure and Character Creation

People have different thoughts and feelings about how to create a d&d character, and I want to preface this with the universal fact that however your group has fun playing d&d is the correct way to play d&d, and what I say here is how I and my group tend to play.

Step one: The World

When I am making a character or starting to review characters during a session zero, I consider how the concepts fit into the world of the game. I consider the setting and the tone of the game before I even start thinking of a concept, let alone a class or race.

Questions to ask your dm:

What pieces of media did you draw inspiration from for this campaign?

What is the tone of this game?

What themes will the game be exploring?

What events in the world of the game could have created an adventurer?

Step two: The Group

The second step I take is considering the group as a whole. What kind of character would fit into the group? Which group members might have a character connected with them in a way? What kind of archetype does the group need?

Questions to ask yourself:

Is my character a team player? If not, how can I justify them being in a group and not hogging attention?

What is the group missing that is integral to the game?

Is there a major theme of the campaign that is missing from the party’s motivation?

Step three: The concept

Before you assign a race and class, make a character. Give them wants, needs, and desires. Motivations for adventuring. Connections within the group. A connection to a main theme of the story and a backstory that fits within the constraints of the world. You can add in the race and class here if that helps you build a concept.

Questions to ask yourself:

What does my character want and need? What desire pushes them forward?

What would they have to achieve to stop adventuring?

What worldview does my character have that relates to a major theme the campaign explores?

Is my character value themselves over others or others over themselves?

Who will my character probably connect with in the party?

Personal freedom or structured rules?

Step four: The Mechanics

Now do all that fun character creation stuff like rolling stats and choosing a class and race.

Conclusion:

In a narrative-focused game like my group plays, having this setup for character creation will allow your DM to easily incorporate your character into major arcs of the game due to how you fit into the setting, your party will appreciate the cohesion from connecting the characters and it will make for fun roleplay encounters, Your character will have driving forces behind their decisions and the choices you make will feel more grounded in reality due to your understanding of your character’s motivations, worldview, and objectives.

P.S. NPCs

For you DMs out there, a condensed form of this formula is also helpful for making memorable NPCs. My process for making any of my NPCs is the “A DOVE” method:

Appearance: What does the character look like? Are they striking or plain? (ex: Arthur Augefort in Fantasy High is a dark skinned, bald wizard with a long white beard. He wears a purple suit that matches his eyes and carries an umbrella. In front of his left eye sits a gold monocle.)

Demeanor: What kind of personality does the character have? Usually a single adjective. (ex: Lucretia in The Adventure Zone being calm and regal.)

Objective: What does the character want from the players? (ex: Mishka in NADDPOD wants the party to rid her town of the Barbarians who have invaded.)

Voice: What sort of voice should the character have? Not necessarily an accent, but deep or high voice? Funny or grounded? How does it connect with the Demeanor? (ex: Ipskix in Escape From the Bloodkeep with his exaggerated screechy voice.)

Eccentricity: What makes this character unique? It can have to do with appearance, it can have to do with their actions, or the environment that they occupy. (ex: Madam Musk in Critical Role *CRITICAL ROLE C2 SPOILERS* being three kobolds in a cloak.)

Water part 2 (straw hats x reader)

Your POV

You’ve been on this island for a couple of weeks, and was preparing to move to the next one soon. You put your hood on to your head, as you walked into the small town. You made shelter on the other side of the island, so no one would see you. You went into an ally, before heading to the center of town. You saw two wanted posters that caught your eye. One was for yourself, which wasn’t that shocking. You’ve had the same wanted poster for a while now, it was for 350,000,000 beli. After seeing this, you quickly tore it down and crumpled it up. The other poster was of the boy you saw yesterday, ‘Straw Hat’. You tore it off as well, but put it into your bag instead.

The lights from the festival were going up. Music was playing, people were setting up. You breathed in the smell of warm food and the aura of the happy villagers. You jumped onto the roof of one of the shops, and quietly watched the people arrive, as well as one memorable ship come into the dock.

Third person POV

The Strawhat crew was gathered at the deck, waiting to leave the ship and go onto the ship. Everyone saw the festive being set up, but Luffy was going to keep his eye out for the water girl.

TIME SKIPPP

It was the start of the festival, luffy was STUFFING his face with all of the wonderful and warming food, while keeping his eye out for the girl. The towns people began to dance in the center, while other people watched or participated in other festivities. (Y/n) was watching people beginning to dance, with a smile on her face. From the other side of the circle, Sanji and Zoro were fiercely yelling at each other.

“STOG BEING SUCH A PERVERT MARINO!”

“STOP BEING SUCH AN A** GRASSHEAD!” With that remark, Sanji pushed Zoro away from him, which just happens to be in the dance circle. At the same time, a townspeople bumps into (y/n) and she also goes into the circle. They bump into each other, chest to chest. (Y/n) looks up, and sees the green haired handsome stranger. Zoro looks down at the smaller girl, blushes a little, and holds out his hand. (Y/n) takes his hand and they begin to dance with the other villagers. First, they are a bit awkward and clumsy together. Once they get the hang of it, they begin laughing and twirling and having a great time together. (Y/n) looks away from Zoro and makes eye contact with Luffy. As soon as Luffy sees her, with his mouth full, he shouts “HEY!”

(Y/n) pushes Zoro back and says a murmured “Sorry” before running off and pushing through the crowd, trying to get to your little hut in the edge of the town. Luffy (and Usopp because Luffy pointed her out) chase after her. (Y/n) sprints as fast as she can, finally getting to her hut by the ocean. She is quickly packing up all of her few belongings. Luffy finally reaches her hut, and yells other “HEY!!” She runs out of the hut, with her back facing the ocean and her front facing Luffy. He stretches his arms out to try and grab her, but she is too fast. She pushes her hand towards him, commanding water chains to whiz past her and attach to his wrists. Luffy’s body snaps towards his chained hands. Usopp finally catches up to Luffy. And sees Luffy on his knees, his hands chained by water a few feet away from a girl standing looking down on him. “H-hey!” Usopp yells, and (y/n)’s head snaps towards him. “L-let him go! O-or I’ll shoot” Usopp pulls out his snipper and aims it towards (y/n).

“Okay.” (Y/n) states. Usopp hesitates for a moment.

“Huh?” He asks.

“Shoot.” (Y/n) says. Luffy looks at her with wide eyes. Usopp shots the sniper. The bullet heads towards (Y/n), but before it can reach her, (y/n) forms a walls of water infront of her and freezes it. The ammo hits the shield and falls towards the ground. The shield falls. Usopp looks a bit frightened, and he takes a step backwards. (Y/n) bends down and picks up the bullet. “I mean it was a nice try. It would have hit my heart, bringing me down pretty quickly. Oh well” after she says that. She commands a giant stream of water to him Usopp, which knocks him to the ground. (Y/n) looks at Luffy again, before going into her hut. (Y/n) comes out of her hut, with a bag of her stuff and stands infront of Luffy. “Anything you want to say before I go?” Luffy’s eyes sparkle.

“join my crew!” Luffy yells.

“No.”

“No” Luffy says.

(Y/n) glares at him for a moment, “ what do you mean no?”

“I refuse your refusal. You are joining my crew!”

“I don’t think you know how this works. You literally can’t do anything. So I’m just gonna walk away now, because I’m not joining your crew.”

“Why not?” Luffy asks.

“Listen, Luffy-“ Suddenly, (y/n) is knocked out and falls to the ground.
