You Reap What You Sow - Hosea 10:12-15; Galatians 6:7-8
In a passage that is filled with agricultural metaphors, the prophet Hosea encourages Israel to sow righteousness and reap God’s mercy. Instead, they had sown wickedness, and would reap God’s judgement.  Hosea echoes the principle seen throughout the Scriptures, that you reap what you sow.

Above All These - Colossians 3:12-14
After several weeks taking a deeper dive into Colossians 3:12-14, we conclude with the quality that binds all the others, and all of God’s people, together.  Love is undeniably important for Christians, and if it is pursued diligently, many other things will naturally fall into place.

Him Whom They Have Pierced - Zechariah 12:10-13:1
Though many passages in the prophets tell of judgment to come, there are also glimpses of hope and a better future.  Zechariah’s prophecy that we consider this morning, a prophecy that John confirms pointed to the Savior, explains that great day when grace and mercy will be poured out through the gift of Jesus.

What Is God Like? - Nahum 1:1-8
As important as it is to know that God exists, we must also seek to understand what God is like, and that can only be done in the Scriptures.  In the book of Nahum, a book of judgement against a foreign nation, there is a brief discourse about the nature of God at the beginning of the prophecy.

Forgiveness: "Easy" as 1, 2, 3! - Colossians 3:12-14
As part of the list of things that Christians are to “put on” as we “set our minds on things above,” the apostle Paul lists forgiveness as something that is an absolute must.  In tonight’s lesson we borrow a good amount from Chapter 3 of Bro. Dan Winkler’s excellent book, Forgiven, Forgiving, and Free: The Peace of Living Without a Past.  We recommend going to the link and securing your own copy…

Where is the Lord? - Micah 7:10
The prophet Micah spoke of being vindicated against those who derisively asked “Where is the Lord your God?”  In our day, that is a question that is still being asked, and Christians must stand ready to give an answer.

Patiently Bearing With One Another - Colossians 3:12-13
As we continue our closer look at Colossians 3:12-14, we turn our attention this week to two closely intertwined qualities, patience and forbearance. As we see both of these in the life of Jesus, we must also learn to demonstrate them ourselves, especially as it regards our brethren.

Great Grace, Great Responsibility - Amos 3:1-2
The people of Israel were the chosen people of God under the Mosaic Covenant.  Because they had received God’s grace, they therefore had a responsibility to obey Him and remain holy. When they failed to fulfill that responsibility, God had to punish them for their iniquities. As the church, we have also received great grace, and that being the case, we have a great responsibility as well.

Rebuilding With Prayerfulness - Nehemiah 4:6-9
Nehemiah and those who were with him in the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls knew that there were enemies at their doorstep.  They knew that the very first thing they needed to do in preparing for those enemies was to pray, but also to use the tools that God had given them to defend their work and the workers.

The Men of Nineveh Will Rise Up - Matthew 12:38-41
A key theme among the Minor Prophets is repentance.  Though God was pronouncing judgment upon those who were disobedient, there was also an underlying desire that they would turn from their wickedness and turn to him.

Humility and Meekness - Colossians 3:12
Continuing to examine the qualities that Paul instructs Christians to “put on” in Colossians 3, we consider the matters of “humility” and “meekness,” which our Lord himself demonstrated and which he serves as an example for us.

From the Dark Depths - Jonah 2
There is little doubt that Jonah’s story of fleeing from God and getting swallowed by the great fish is a famous one.  Yet the story of Jonah also teaches about repentance and God’s love for all people. And in the middle of the story is an example of prayer from which we hope to learn a little bit as we study together this week.

Hearts of Compassionate Kindness - Colossians 3:12
The qualities that Paul instructed Christians to “put on” in Colossians 3 are qualities that were demonstrated by the Savior himself during his earthly ministry. Looking to the example of Jesus, we see how his compassion for individuals moved him to act with kindness toward them, and together we explore ways that we can do the same.

A Lack of Knowledge - Hosea 4:1-6
God’s spoke through Hosea to a nation that had left the commandments that he had given to them, and had gone to worship other gods.  Israel had forgotten her God.  There was no knowledge of God in the land, and that had resulted in transgression, in rejection, and would result in destruction.

Standards to Follow - Colossians 3:15-17
As we shift our focus from worldly things to heavenly, as we put on the new man and put off the old, our text turns to some standards which we can follow in our walk with Christ.  They are the peace of Christ, the word of Christ, and the name of Christ, and they are all bound together in Colossians 3 by the admonition to be thankful.

The Coming King of Zion - Zechariah 9:9-10
There are a number of prophecies about the coming of Jesus, with a number appearing in the book of Zechariah.  Among them is a prophecy of his coming to Jerusalem humbly riding on a donkey, the fulfillment of which is recorded in all four gospel accounts.  Though it seems the people of Jerusalem weren’t quite ready for all that the coming of the king entailed.  And we are left to ask ourselves,…

Something New - Colossians 3:9-14
Having set our minds on things above where Christ is (Col. 3:1-4), we are encouraged by the apostle to “put to death” what is earthly within us (Col. 3:5-9), and to put on the new self which is conformed to the image of Jesus (Col. 3:10-14).
