My second to last semester focused on Partition literature so when I saw this ARC available on Netgalley I had to get it.
The topic was handled with great care, I just wish the beginning wasn’t so rushed so that we got more of Maha and Dadi learning how to be in each others space.

Freshman Year captured that nebulous year of transitioning from high school to college. You're suddenly hit with feeling like an adult but at the same time you're really not and it all moves so fast. The friends you had in high school aren't always the same ones you have in college and it gets harder to maintain friendships the same way you used to.
The realest moment that stuck out to me is when Sarah is venting to Liz about feeling like a bad person and thinking she's so far behind her peers in class. That anxiety and insecurity Sarah feels is honest and something a lot of people (especially those just starting college) understand and have felt at some point. The ending was also cathartic for me because Sarah is now nineteen, "this is the last year [she's] a teen," she's not an adult yet, so she doesn't have to have everything figured out. She can just learn and try to enjoy college.

Robin Ha’s debut fiction graphic novel was absolutely stunning. The Fox Maidens is a beautiful story about female identity and mother-daughter relationships. Ha’s art is gorgeous as always and she gets to show off her adeptness with action in this piece.
10/10. Hands down.

Seasonal depression and working the holiday season are a bad combination. But books make it better 🥰

This is an amazing graphic novel with beautiful art that pairs so well with its well written story about history and perception.
“But the world is how we make it. How will you make it?”

The wasted potential of Death Note’s women
Tumblr media
Spoilers for Death Note; the manga, the anime, the 2015 TV drama, the musical, and the 2017 Netflix movie.
In my opinion, Amane Misa from Death Note is without question one of the most wronged characters in the history of anime/manga.
Misa was never seen by her one and greatest love, series protagonist Light, as anything even resembling an equal at all—instead, she finds herself repeatedly as the butt of jokes and a ditzy contrast to make him seem much smarter. In the end, Misa became a mass murderer for Light, and didn’t even have the one thing she wanted—his love—to show for it. Light constantly insults Misa, and even cheats on her toward the end of the series. Throughout the series, Misa was profoundly wronged by the other characters, but even so, this isn’t quite what I mean. When I say, “Misa is one of the most wronged characters in the history of anime/manga,” I mean that Misa was wronged by Death Note author Ohba Tsugumi’s writing.
In the hands of a writer who isn’t so brazenly disinterested in writing them, the women of Death Note—Misa, especially—easily have the potential to be the most interesting characters in the deeply iconic series. But as it stands, they’ve been massively shortchanged by writing that presents plenty of fascinating story elements for them, but that never get explored. Good thing we have the stage musical and 2015 TV drama.

Would Goku have let Cell become perfect?
I wonder what people on tumblr thinks about this.
There's no doubt that Vegeta wasn't a good guy during the Cell Saga and entirely acted for selfish reasons. Goku was nothing like it and would protect earth at any cost (going so far as to sacrifice himself).
However, Goku has always striven to fight the strongest opponent when possible. He also seemed to believe Gohan so capable of defeating Perfect Cell later on that he even allowed him to be healed before the fight.
So what do you think?

The next installment of Chip Zdarsky’s Batman run and it had improvements in pacing and continued its exploration of Batman and where he is at this point in his life.

There is so much potential in this story that I wished was capitalized on. A sequel is definitely needed to expand on character backstories and a touch more world building. A solid start that should be expanded on.
