Zucchini evolution - 1 week 🥒🔆💦
Each year since I started my green journey I’ve challenged myself to grow something new, and see first hand the resiliency of nature in my local environment.
My raised garden bed is primarily clay - and currently home to a pretty large anthill. I maintain peace with the insects by leaving their corner colony alone, and supplement the clay with store bought soil when I plant initially, but beyond that all I do to the earth is weed and water when needed and wait 👀
Which means I’m VERY excited to have both my new crops for 2023 - garlic and these beautiful zucchini’s, doing well!
While our grow and harvest may still be small scale, a lot can still be done on a tiny budget with the help of our incredible planet! 🤩

You are not a less valid witch because you don’t have fancy tools.

You are valid. Anyone who tells you otherwise can take the salt out of their ass and move on. It is your practice, not theirs.

The garlic is here!! Next year I will most definitely be planting more (like 5x more…is that too much? 😂)
This is one of the easiest and most validating additions to my garden hands down! 🧄🙌🏻
For those new to gardening or just looking to grow your own food, this is one of the best first steps! Garlic thrives in tons of different ecosystems and planting zones - simply find yours and give it a try! You don’t often need anything special to get started, though garlic from a local source is preferred to get the most out of your own grow 🔆

So now we wait for the bulbs to dry in the sun for the day and bring it in to hang this evening 😍
Planted my first cloves of garlic! 🧄
I’m in Southern Ontario where we have 4 very distinct seasons and I’ve never tried to grow my own garlic because it requires too much patience! Getting through the winter and not knowing whether anything will actually sprout? Not really my thing.
BUT this year I decided to take 10 minutes outside and planted 5 large cloves of beautiful Ontario garlic - 4 went directly into the ground and 1 into a 5 gal bucket incase the others get disturbed. I gave them all a good cover of fallen leaves for insulation and protection - fingers crossed the rats living under my back yard don’t just take them as a snack! (But if they do oh well. City living is about positively coexisting with displaced animals of any kind!)

The 4 in the ground are all looking beautiful and produced delicious scapes! Can’t wait to see how they develop by the end of the summer! 🧄

Guess who was overwintering in a bucket that I grew tomatoes in last year, and tipped over to empty today 💁🏻‍♀️
Tomato Hornworm in a cocoon - found in leftover soil and tomato plant roots from 2022.
Clearly fairly developed already with the dark colour and this friend is BIG. Fingers crossed we get to see them hatch into a 5 Spotted Hawk Moth!🤞🏻
If anyone has any recommendations for how to increase this little friend’s chances I’m all ears!

First time trying to make yogurt today!
I had 2L of cream top milk about to go bad in the fridge and decided to try my hand at homemade yogurt! I warmed the milk in my crock pot for 4 hours until the milk got to 185ish F and then once it cooled to 118 I separated some and added a Greek yogurt cup (equipped with live cultures) I had in the fridge 😁
Now it goes into the oven (not on ofc) to sit for 8-12 hours. Fingers crossed it turns out overnight! 🙏🏻

My simmer pot this afternoon!
Made with 5 ingredients I had at home, this pot helps to protect, motivate and amplify intention!
It being the darkest day of the year today I also threw together a couple spell jars using a similar variety of herbs and and intentions, along with a clear quartz in one just to boost that good energy even more!
