Creative Writing: A Journal Entry
2:36 am. There's no electricity here except for the cable streaming from the upstairs apartment.  I was laying next to you for awhile. The sound of your light breath and the white noise from the fan is usually enough to lull me to sleep. I never imagined someones sticky smell would be my favorite thing, but it is. Especially on days that are too hot, and nights that don't cool down.
I can't stop thinking of the moon, and how no matter how far apart we are, we will always be looking at the same one.  I can't stop thinking about how much I would love for her to reach out her big arms and carry us to the sky, and we could live there. You could play music with the stars and I could write stories about Jupiter and the blood on the moon.
Sometimes I feel as though I view the world as far too cinematic.  I want my life to feel like the work of art I've created in my head, but I'm always left feeling nostalgic and empty.  I'm not sure what I'm longing for, but it's something more than what's here, though I always want you by my side.
You're leaving in two days, and I'm afraid on the road you won't miss me like you should. I'm afraid you'll find what you're looking for and it won't include me holding your hand.
A half hour ago I kissed your skin as you slept. It didn't wake you but I hope you're dreaming about it.
In the last hour, "always" has taken on a whole new meaning.
I hope you never fall in love with anyone else. I hope you never forget the bags under my eyes or the way my sore mouth feels when I kiss you ten times goodnight.

Hooligan Eats: Egg in a Hole
Having a busy morning and think you don't have time to eat breakfast? Fear not! This quick and super easy recipe will take you about 10 minutes (prep time included), and tastes yummy and is filling! Enjoy loves~
Madison Lynn
Independent Writer
What you will need:
1 pan, big enough to fit a piece of bread
1 piece of bread
1 egg
Enough butter to coat the pan (This helps with toasting the bread)
Any type of cookie cutter (if you don't have one, you can always just cut a hole)
Spatula
Step One:
Take your cookie cutter (or knife) and make a hole in your piece of bread. Save the piece of bread that you cut out so you can use it to dip in the egg yolks later!
Tumblr media
Step Two:
Heat the pan up so that when you coat it with the butter, it sizzles. Place the piece of bread on the pan, and when it browns, flip it over. I
Tumblr media
Step Three:
Crack the egg over the hole (its okay if it flows over). Wait until the bottom is cooked and then flip it over so the other side gets cooked as well. This usually only takes a minute or two. Make sure you don't over cook the egg, or else it won't be as runny as it should be.
Tumblr media
Step Four:
Place on a plate and enjoy!!!!

RE: Big Girls in Costume
The reason behind this video was to offer my opinion on Alex Day's video which was a blatant for of fat-shaming. He later said it was done in satire (yea right nice attempt at a save). Regardless of satire or not, when you objectify a woman or man's body in such terms it is rude and you can best believe you will be called out on it.
don't be a dick alex. it's not funny.
Fat shaming is never okay not even in comedic terms.

Style: Concert Style
Hey guys! Things are starting to finally warm up where I live and the summer concerts have begun!  In the city I live in, one of the best things to do on Friday nights in June and July is to see these free outdoor concerts downtown.  Last night I was lucky to watch The 1975, a fantastic band hailing from Manchester, England.  In this post I've got some photos of what I wore, and what some of the people around me wore!  Also, of course, some pictures of the fabulous band.  Click through to check it out!

What I wore: Silence + Noise Dress / Gladiator Sandals / Topshop Hat / Marc Jacobs necklace
Why I wore it: Normally, I wouldn't wear a dress to a concert.  Since this specific concert was outside, I knew that it wouldn't be as crazy as a normal concert.  Plus, with my flats and hat I was super comfortable!
And here's some photos of some cool people that I ran into while at the concert:

And of course, the amazing band (and their cool outfits)

Hope you enjoyed this!  I'll try to do another post on one of these concerts before they're over for the summer, and hopefully next time I'll get some more photos of awesome people around the area!

Film Review: The Purity Myth
Tumblr media
“Girls “going wild” aren’t damaging a generation of women, the myth of sexual purity is. The lie of virginity—the idea that such a thing even exists—is ensuring that young women’s perception of themselves is inextricable from their bodies, and that their ability to be moral actors is absolutely dependent on their sexuality. It’s time to teach our daughters that their ability to be good people depends on their being good people , not on whether or not they’re sexually active…so while young women are subject to overt sexual messages everyday, they’re simultaneously being taught—by the people who are supposed to care for their personal and moral development, no less—that their only real worth is their virginity and ability to remain “pure”.”  ― Jessica Valenti, The Purity Myth: How America's Obsession with Virginity is Hurting Young Women
- Juliana
“Slut,” a name given to women who delve into their own sexuality and sleep with numerous partners; a woman who defiles the sanctity of virginity or purity before marriage. This word primarily surrounds women.
Virginity is something “sacred” only to women, but why not men too?
Jessica Valenti addresses the concept of women and virginity in her book The Purity Myth (released as a film in 2011). She expresses in the book how a woman’s sexuality is limited to what a man or morals allow them to do. The idea of purity and virginity is used as a control for men and women to keep people “in line” and morally right; but what is more right…restricting someone’s life or allowing them to do what they please? It’s a touchy subject in the modern religious world where abstinence is pushed and pressured on young adults.
In Jessica Valenti’s film, it shows abstinence programs in high schools across the nation pushing for students to stay “pure.” Jessica narrates the film and points out that most of all abstinence programs provide false and misleading information for the students they are teaching. This claim was also supported by the U.S. government, which had over 50 years of research that proved that abstinence programs did not work, but proved to be more harmful.
Valenti’s film continued to focus on society’s impact on the view of virginity and how women are treated because of it.
The Purity Myth was an excellent source of information for women’s sexuality rights. The film was a real eye opener to what was really going on in society and why virginity was so “sacred.” The cinematography was great and the topics of the film flowed wonderfully. I recommend this film to everyone, male, female, or genderless.
I especially recommend that the book should be checked out as well. I have not read it yet, but based off the film…I am positive it will be great and packed with even more information. It can be found at Amazon or any bookstore really. However, the film was a little difficult for me to find, I will post the link to the preview below. So go read this book! Or watch the film! It’s definitely worth it.

Music: Something For Every Mood
Often when you're in an amazing mood or you're feeling completely down, you feel like listening to music, but sometimes, no matter how hard you claw through your iTunes library, you just can't find a song that you feel like listening to. After going through months of pressing shuffle and having to deal with the likes of skipping all the annoying songs that I really didn't want to listen to, I've come up with a playlist for each emotion
Jasmin Wills Music Contributor
When I'm in a really positive, cheery, happy mood, I find upbeat songs are the way to keep yourself in your amazing mood! I created this playlist for the really good moods:
Tumblr media
When I just feel like relaxing and lounging around but I'm not in a particularly amazing or terrible mood, I like to listen to songs with a more chilled vibe, and this is my playlist for this kind of mood:
Tumblr media
Don't you ever get in a really frustrated angry mood when a friend is lying to you or being a massive bitch, and all you want to do is get your frustration out? When I get in these kind of moods, I find that intense, dramatic music is the best way to curb my anger (full volume with headphones is recommended - please don't burst your eardrums though!):
Tumblr media
When you're feeling down, like the whole world is against you, I feel the best way to tackle it is by listening to realllly sad music to bring on the tears and get over the gloom as soon as you can! These are the perfect songs for just that:

Style: Rent the Runway Review
Hey everybody! So today I'm going to be bringing you my own personal review and experience with using Rent the Runway.  If you don't know what Rent the Runway is, it's a company that rents out designer dresses, handbags, and jewelry to average people for their use in formal affairs or whatever they'd like!  It's a fantastic alternative to buying a really expensive dress or accessories when you know that there's a very slim chance of you ever wearing them again.  So, for my experience, I rented a Badgley Mischka dress for my prom last Thursday.  Click through to see some pictures and read what I thought of Rent the Runway!

So I'm going to separate this into a few categories and talk about each: Fit, Service, Price, Timing, and Overall.  Oh, but first I'll throw in a few pictures of myself (and my prom date / friends because I don't have any photos of just me) in the dress. (I'm the one in black)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fit: 7/10 I was a bit worried when I first ordered the dress about how it was going to fit, mainly because I ordered it on a Saturday.  The website has "fit specialists" that you can chat with but those are only available during the week, and I was running out of time so I had to order the dress that day.  The good thing about RTR is that they send you two dresses, and two sizes.  One size you choose because that's the size you believe will fit you, and then you choose another in a size that you believe would be the second best.  I ordered a 4 Petite and a 6 Regular, because they didn't have a 6 Petite available for the day I needed it.   Also, personally I had a tiny bit of trouble zipping my dress up because it was a bit tight around the chest area and there was a lot of fabric in that area of the dress that made zipping it very difficult.  BUT once the dress was on, it fit like a glove!
Service: 9/10 The service at RTR was pretty fantastic. The dress arrived on time and left on time, and they do all the dry-cleaning so all I have to do is take it out of the box, wear it, and then put it back in a pre-paid package they sent and then drop it off at UPS.  It was super easy and stress-free.
Timing: 8/10 The way that RTR works is that you get the dress for four days total, so I personally suggest getting the dresses two days before the event so that there's extra time in case neither of the dresses fit.  What I do have to suggest is that you order your dress about 2 weeks before the event, so that there's a better chance they'll have your size available for that day. Then, since I rented it for two days before my event, I had it returned the next morning.  This part was a little tricky, given that it needed to be dropped off at the UPS store by noon that day, and given the fact it was the day after prom there was a fair amount of running around trying to get back to my own house and pick up the packaging and the other dress - but we made it!
Overall: 9/10 I have to say, I loved my Rent the Runway experience. It was simple, and affordable.  The dress I rented cost me $130 while for retail it would have gone for $800.  I spent a very small amount of money compared to most of my friends who bought their prom dresses for $300-$500.  Plus, it's not like I was going to ever wear a prom dress again.  Rent the Runway let me stand out too, given the fact that my dress was not typical "prom" style (in a good way.)  Long story short, I loved everything about my choice for my prom dress and I'd thoroughly suggest using Rent the Runway for all my classy hooligans out there!

Advice: Do what makes YOU happy
Tumblr media
While things can and are often overwhelming and can seem awful and be awful and everything can seem so shitty - you are in control of your life, you are in control of what you do and love and enjoy. I think sometimes the best advice that anyone can give is in the reminder that you can do more of what makes you happy, and less of what makes you sad. There are so many things to enjoy and live for and fall in love with, why spend the limited gift of time that we have on the negative? If someone makes you sad, pay them no mind. If someone breaks your heart, tell them to fuck off. If you're doing something you don't enjoy, stop doing it. Live for yourself and what makes you happy. Sometimes it seems that there's nothing that could make you happy, go out and try something new. You only have one life to live and one chance to live it - you might as well be happy while you can be.

Alt-J, An Awesome Wave album review
Maybe I'm a little late and maybe this is a little long overdue, and with semesters ending and finals killing every inch of our emotional beings - you may have found it hard to find time to get your monthly artist obsession in check. Completely understandable. Well here in the Hooligan quarters of Wisconsin, right a long the line of Lake Michigan, I've been swooning over one bands music in particular and I wouldn't be surprised if you have been either: English indie-rockers Alt-J have managed to create the most psychedelic folk/rock album and turn it into the most interesting and rewarding summertime bliss. It's been a long time since a band was able to make me feel everything all at once - I think the last time this happened was when Arcade Fire released their third studio album in 2010 entitled, "The Suburbs" - Oh the inevitable nostalgia.
You can stream Alt-J's An Awesome Wave for free on Spotify right this second. (Please do)
