So I didn’t actually manage to FINISH 3H. Got far enough into Azure Moon (best route, fight me) to make sure that Dedue was alive and he and Dimitri got their final support and that Dimitri got the worst of the destructive impulses out of his system and then...

...well, then I no longer had a compelling reason to continue.

I mean, the characters are fine, I guess? I’d like them more in a story that was actually driven by them, but I suppose you could say the same about FEA and I loved that, though it being my first FE might’ve had something to do with it.

3H just didn’t do it for me, guys. Fates was better (in all of the ways that matter to me personally).

Really loved Dimitri, though! And Rhea. TBH one of the reasons I think I lost interest was I realized I’d have to play an entire additional route to gay marry the pope - and the gameplay’s just really not that interesting!

Might do a more in-depth post at some point. Oh, and I played 90% of Path of Radiance, which is also scads better than 3H (again, in the ways that matter to me personally). I have no idea why FE fandom was so much smaller than FF fandom for so many years when it’s got games like that, goddamn.

For some reason I have Camilla on the brain today.

Remember that Hinoka support where she deftly manipulates Hinoka into doing something she's bad at so Camilla can position herself as superior?

How did we not think this Magnificent Bitch behavior was the funniest shit ever? It's amazing. Hinoka is playing checkers and Camilla is playing 5D chess around her in a competition that only exists in Camilla's head.

I’ve actually only played Fates and Awakening, so my gay lady opinions are limited to those - and I don’t engage a ton with fandom, either, so if you have any recommendations for fic that might sway my opinions, toss it my way! 

In terms of what we’re given in canon/supports, my Fates favorites are Kagerou/Orochi, Camilla/Belka, and Aqua/most people (I don’t talk about it much on here but I ship Aqua with basically everyone). I also think Sakura/Elise would be super-fuckin’-cute. I’m...pretty open about ships, honestly? Especially in games like this. But for Fates I’m more invested in the platonic relationships overall tbh (well, those and anything that lets me laugh at Leon).

I had much stronger feelings about Sumia/Sully, Maribelle/Lissa and Olivia/Panne in Awakening and would gladly roll around in feelings over any of those. :D

(Same anon) From what I interpreted from the text Camilla doesn't call Takumi and Hinoka children as a taunt, but more like a frustrated disciplinarian. In Ch. 24 Hinoka's not willing to listen to Kamui which annoys and is like "listen here you naughty child do what Kamui says". Then, interestingly enough, once Hinoka complies she complements her like an adult does to an obedient kid. (It's a taunt at this point though). I just find it fascinating she is this way with Hinoka, her counterpart as

they are supposed to be in the same age group. Or maybe Hinoka's younger? It also brings up the question where does Camilla draw the line between who she considers a kid and whose an adult. Marx is an example of who she considers an adult, and she challenges him as such. As also she does Joker, who is probably Hinoka's age. (Much like Hinoka, she considers him an antagonist). Even with Leon she treats him like a kid, abeit a mature one, and she's like "you're so cute Leon" in their supports.

I definitely think that Hinoka is a bit of a special case. She’s the Other Oneesan and Camilla clearly has some internalized rivalry with her. I had more to say on this but never typed it out in my draft and now I’ve forgotten it, argh

I also think, regardless of their actual age, Camilla’s got more of a parental relationship with her retainers and with her siblings, whereas Hinoka’s more like a big sister. Like, Camilla and Marx are clearly Mom and Dad, but when you flip over to Hoshido, there’s not that Mom-shaped gap; Mikoto is the mom. Hinoka didn’t need to step into that position, so she didn’t. So on some level I think Hinoka is less mature than Camilla - or at least outwardly expresses a different level of maturity. So even if they weren’t rivals I think Camilla would still slot her into the “child” category.

I also think (I have a lot of thoughts) that it’s important to differentiate between those she categorizes as kids out of affection (Leon, Kamui, Belka&Luna) and those she categorizes as kids out of contempt. ‘Cause she definitely does both.

OH MY SWEET SUMMER CHILD

this post actually was inspired very much by the revelation that Leon canonically has Feelings Beyond The Familial for his dear oneesan, so yes, I am aware they’re related, and equally aware they will never be married (nor would I want them to be). Leon’s unattainable romantic aspirations are precisely why I was laughing at him. They are also precisely why I am responding to you, because I like to encourage other people to laugh at Leon. We are all Kamui, after all.  ♬(ノ゜∇゜)ノ♩

I did want to clarify - for the sake of any watchful Leon biases - that I don’t really think Leon’s issue would be with the fact that Zero is low-class. He clearly trusts and respects Zero, and we actually just got some nice DLC that clarifies Leon’s sheltered upbringing and how it’s affected him. 

Rather, Zero being low-class eliminates some of the mental gymnastics that Leon could use to make himself feel better about the situation (it’s an arranged marriage/she’s doing it for politics/she isn’t the sort to marry for love regardless of consequences so EVEN IF SHE LOVED ME BACK it wouldn’t happen). If Camilla’s marrying Zero, it’s love. That’s the thing I think would bother him most.

I mean, and the fact that he’d know they were having fabulous sex, but that’s beyond the point.

I’ve talked before about my difficulties shipping Camilla with people but I do see the appeal and I am glad you have headcanon’d some happiness for my favorite lady! I do rather like her mum-supports with Eponine, though I haven’t yet seen how they were localized. I admit I get a little possessive of Zero; he was the reason I bought the game and was my first husband, so I think I’ll always ship him with Kamui a bit, heheh.

(#／。＼#) You are so nice! Headcanons are probably my favorite part of fandom, so it’s awesome knowing that other people enjoy them~

That said, um, warning for excessive mockery of Leon because I know a lot of people love him, and I love him too (now) but I show my love by laughing at his pain. A lot. Just assume I’m cackling everywhere there is capslock.

Now, I don’t really think that Leon believes he’s going to one day sweep Camilla off her feet. And I think he grew up in Concubine Hell, so the idea that all of them are probably going to wind up marrying for political purposes is something he’s long since made peace with. I think these two things are tied together in his head, though - I think part of how he reconciles his love for Camilla with the fact that she will never return his feelings is the fact that she’s First Princess and would likely make a political marriage for their family’s sake anyway.

I also think that Leon would be at least a little jealous of whoever she married, but is the sort of person who would try to put it out of his mind, and/or mock her husband in subtle, intelligent Leon ways, depending on how childish he was feeling.

SO CAMILLA MARRIES ZERO.

Camilla marries ZERO, who has no political prospects. ZERO. Who Leon cannot ignore or overtly mock because hey guess what that’s his most loyal retainer. ZERO. Who talks excessively about the sorts of sex he’d like to have with anything that moves and yeah half of that is bravado and yeah he’d be polite to Leon’s face but you can bet your ass people talk about that shit so I’m sure Leon would have a p good idea of what his most loyal retainer was doing to his beloved older sister

on a regular basis

with her full, willing, enthusiastic consent 

bc it’s not like she married him for politics

and Camilla’s pretty physically affectionate, so like, you can imagine, I’m sure, she comes by Leon’s group and gives her brother an affectionate hug and then she goes over to her husband, Leon’s MOST LOYAL RETAINER, and whispers something really inappropriate in his ear and then they probably make out or something I don’t even know, all I know is that the steam coming out of Leon’s ears would cook a lot of rice.

Like, all joking aside, I truly believe it would be the worst possible scenario for him. It leaves him no way of justifying it in his head, and it forces him to confront and crush whatever tiny little daydreams he was still holding to. And I think he’d also feel betrayed by Zero, but have no way to express that to Zero without, you know, spilling his deepest darkest secret.

…which I’m sure would prompt Zero to suggest a threesome and then Leon would actually have to kill him.
