A Christmas Carol Book Review
Tumblr media
3/5 stars
overall, most of the adaptations i’d seen over the years were pretty accurate lol. for that reason, i was fairly bored, as i already knew exactly what was going to happen and what was going to be said. however, it was still fun to read the original version of a story that i hear/watch every year.

rebecca book review
Tumblr media
4.5/5 stars
rebecca is narrated by the new mrs. de winter, who upon marrying the widower maxim de winter and moving to his estate called manderley, discovers that perhaps there is more to the house's story than there may seem. she battles against the memory of rebecca, the late mrs. de winter, who seems to (metaphorically) haunt the halls of manderley.
i really loved this book omg. it was full of so much suspense and i was absolutely hooked. i also love the unreliable narrator, and i think mrs. de winter would qualify. her paranoia about rebecca and the way everyone perceives her warps her ability to properly process the information around her. it also makes for her reactions to later discoveries very interesting. half a star is docked because of, as with most classics, the content that "aged poorly" (aka was always offensive but we now as a wider society ackowledgde its offensiveness lmao). warning for weird age gap, incest, that one rlly racist line, the scene where a character does brown face, and the scene where a character does yellow face.

does anyone have any book recs that are closed third on one character the whole time?
i'm having a crisis with figuring out who i want to narrate my current wip lol. i think having it just be close on one character would ultimately make it stronger, but also i already made an ensemble cast that i adore and i want to give them there page time too. but i all a sudden i can't think of any books that were closed third on just one character lmao.

When the death toll for Gaza goes up from disease, Israel will claim deniability, that those deaths were not deliberate and calculated. You see it with how settlers will talk about the genocide of Natives, that most of us "just died from disease then colonizers 'accidentally spread'". It is NEVER an accident. Famines and Diseases and always used as tool for genocide by colonizers

thank you @carnocus for the tag ! see their post here !
rules: post the last sentence you wrote in your wip and tag as many of your followers as there are words in the sentence.
here is the last line from my main wip project nm !
"She was here because, as much as she hated to admit it, she had nowhere else to go."
also no pressure at all !
18 words, 18 followers (except i only tagged 17 bc i don’t have enough followers lmao)

btw supporting palestine is a basic decency. the most normal take is to be against genocide. like naturally. people should not be praised for supporting palestine when it's literally the moral and ethical stance to take. genocide is bad. i can't believe we have to explain that to people. genocide is literally bad. it is morally ethical to be against genocide. people shouldn't be praised for basic decency

me answer is always the victorian periods. the victorians were just so …. interesting (derogatory). and like i adore the fashion and the aesthetics of the time, plus their fascination with the macabre and supernatural lends great to a spooky or speculative atmosphere.
fave time periods to write fantasy in? why? go. give me the aesthetics, the vibes, the reasons! immediately or face my wrath!

Not so gentle reminder, that you’re going to have to stop drinking Starbucks and eating McDonald’s pretty much forever if this is actually going to work. The Montgomery bus boycott lasted for over a year. That means that people walked everywhere for over a year. This is going to require sacrifice. And I promise you it will work in the long run, especially as more people come on board, but this cannot just be a trend. Your resistance Hass to be continual and I know for me, every time I am further radicalized, I change the way I interact with the world and this is a beautiful time to think about changing the way you interact with the world
