though i was brought up in a christian household, was born and raised in a country with deep faith, i never really believed in god. i’ve always feared him, i’ve always questioned him, but never did i once have faith in him.

when i was younger, i found it rather silly, when people would cling onto just a belief to gain some sense of comfort and control. i’ve seen mothers with bruised knees at the church, fathers with tears staining their cheeks, praying nonstop. i always knew why they prayed , but i never understood the logic.

some words weren’t going to save someone, so why waste time? if they did, then wouldn’t everyone with a sickness be cured? why go and pray nonstop if you don’t know for sure if it’ll help or not?

and yet, every time i worry that a loved one of mine may be unsafe, i wish, i silently wish, that they’re okay. so i pray. i pray to whatever god has the nerve to listen, and i beg. i beg for them to show mercy, to let someone i love be okay, be healthy, strong enough.

sometimes i silently wish that my friends don’t die. i beg with tears pooling in my eyes to let them live another day.

oh how i yearn for comfort.

was love really enough to reignite the religious faith in me? was the love i feel for his warm flesh enough to make me love god for creating him?

or is it fear?

is it still that childish fear? is it the fear that was rooted in me ever since i became conscious? thinking that someone’s going to take away what i love just to play out a sick joke?

helpless, that’s just pathetic. i’m weak, i can do nothing to prevent anything. unfair.

i never questioned if god was real, but one thing i knew, he didn’t love us.

but he didn’t love me more.
