You know what I love? Whenever someone refers to Sans and Papyrus as "the boys." Something about it just feels so innocent and wholesome, like how you would refer to a pair of siblings as "the boys", "the girls", or "the kids", or whatever you would refer to your children (if you have any). I'm not saying Sans and Papyrus are children (they're not), but the two certainly have a few more "childlike" aspects than most of the main cast (like how Sans still laughs at fart jokes/childish pranks/knock knock jokes and doesn't take his initial job seriously while Papyrus... well, it's obvious with him). I've only really seen people refer to Sans and Papyrus as the "boys" in AUs, mostly Handplates. So, yeah, this is just the brainrot speaking, but I will always refer to Sans and Papyrus as "the boys" in my mind.

sans, with everything in him, admires and respects all that his brother does and or is capable of doing. it was never part of any of his routines

he earnestly means every positive word he says about his brother and given how usually jokey and goofy he is....... this, in fact, makes me want to eat a slab of concrete. AAUWUGGHSH

papyrus, in a similar vein, may gripe about his brother's laziness and questionable humor, but when push comes to shove, he truly cares and looks past sans' lazy habits n terrible jokes (even indulging in some n countering with his own one-liners or, in the very extreme cases where sans is unfortunately, super funny, smiles despite himself)

on top of that, in general, papyrus' tongue-lashings come from a place of wanting his brother to strive for better rather than annoyance with who he is.

in their own little ways.

one little way is how papyrus instinctively passed the puck to sans cuz thats his BRO!!!!!!! 🗣️

entirely forgetting they were against the other LOLL (ah, to perpetually assume ur siblings' on your team in everything, so beautiful)

a second little way is how that same match, papyrus deflates at the prospect of losing to undyne even with the power of love and friendship on his side

The Amazing World Of Gumball is a show I grew up on. It's still one of my favourite cartoons to this day.

That said, Gumball and Darwin's voices are my headcanon for how Sans and Papyrus sounded as children.

Yes, I know the voice actors always switched, but they're all quite similar anyway, and it still stands.

Have you ever stopped to think that if it weren't for Papyrus, the pacifist run in Undertale as you know it wouldn't have been possible?

Let's go over the important things he did, shall we?

His very desire to have a true friend drove Papyrus to befriend Frisk. This is the second crucial step to get a True Pacifist ending, the first being "no killing monsters, no no don't do it, naughty, not even a single dust pile to be seen, nope!"

Papyrus is the one who orchestrated the Undyne "date". He encouraged you to go to her house, he was the one who tricked Undyne into trying to befriend you/Frisk as a challenge, and then he jumped out the window like a boss. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't have befriended Undyne, and by extension, the Alphys date wouldn't have been possible.

After you reload, Papyrus was the one who encouraged Undyne to write a love letter to Alphys and get Frisk/you to deliver it to the lizard nerd. Source:

Papyrus showed up at the Alphys date too from seemingly out of nowhere. This could just be Papyrus being Papyrus, but personally, my interpretation is that he's been watching it from behind the scenes the whole time, checking if it's all going according to plan.

Aaaaand of course, Papyrus was the one who called everyone to the castle, allowing them to stop the Asgore fight and allowed the Asriel fight to begin.

Now, I've always loved the whole "meta reset awareness" thing Sans has, and I ESPECIALLY love the AUs or ATs where Papyrus is aware of the timelines too. My favourite is how Zarla portrays it, with both the Skelebros being in the same boat but riding out the storm together. How wholesome and sad...

So, I've been thinking: If you take into account Papyrus' contributions to the Pacifist run and combine it with the "Papyrus has reset awareness" theory/AU/interpretation... then it's possible that Papyrus knew what he was doing all along. Well, maybe not all of it, but perhaps he has just the SLIGHTEST awareness, like he's not actively thinking "I'm gonna make the Pacifist Route possible", but it's more like, "I'm going to give the human an incentive to befriend us and give them a happier ending." And I think that's very sweet.

Give it up for Papyrus, everybody! Because without him, we wouldn't have the True Pacifist ending as we know it.

Monster Species Themed Headcanons

I've noticed a lot of monster species are animal-based, so I imagine they also display the characteristics of animals too. Even the monsters that AREN'T animals have unique traits and instincts that I want to write down.

Monsters that aren't animalistic might be able to pick up animalistic traits due to the vast amount of the population being animals or animal-based.

Dog monsters are a bundle of animal instincts that are just BARELY contained. The dog battles in Snowdin basically explain it all. They're extremely susceptible to giving into their instincts, especially when pets and sticks are involved.

Cat monsters are similar in this regard. I like to think Burgerpants and Catty act a lot like cats when they aren't selling things. Burgerpants in particular would sleep pretty much anywhere.

As a fish monster, Undyne is an extremely good swimmer. She also keeps a container of fish flakes with her when she's going on a workout as a little snack. She has a secret stash of them in her room somewhere.

Once, Alphys got her tail caught in one of her machines, and in her struggle to pull it out, she accidentally pulled it OFF. Don't worry, it grew back, but she was anxious to go outside for a while because she was very self-conscious of her walk when she's tailless.

Asgore, Toriel, and Asriel bleat like goats when in a state of strong emotion, mostly fear.

In fact, pretty much every animalistic monster makes the sound of their respective animal (unless the animal in question doesn't have a distinct sound)!!

As for non-animals, they have distinct features too, like ghosts are doing their canon ghost things.

Skeletons rattle A LOT, especially when in a high mood. In my headcanon, rattling basically functions a bit like a cat purr. If you get close enough, you can tell that their ribcage and upper spine vibrate a lot when they're rattling. In addition, since skeletons in the media are often associated with music and jazz, I like to imagine skeletons naturally have high musical intelligence, and they'd pick up instruments very easily. And yes, they can take off their limbs too, but only when it's practical (or for fun!).

My gerbils are brothers and like to sleep in a combined ball of sleepy cuteness. Although sometimes occasionally as I sit here on my PC I hear them squeak at each other and squirm around for a bit before settling down. It kinda made me imagine Sans and Papyrus doing that. Or are they behaved and polite sleepers to each other? lol

I actually feel like their sleep behaviors would match up pretty well, although their schedules are so off it doesn’t happen very often, haha.

Papyrus barely sleeps, and when he does he doesn’t sleep for very long or very deeply. He always has a ton of energy and a million things he feels like he could be doing instead, so he’s an extremely light sleeper who tosses and turns a lot and will wake up at the slightest thing, and then he can’t get back to sleep so he’ll spring up and get to work on something. In a Handplates context that restlessness is also has an undercurrent of baseless anxiety to it where he never really feels quite safe or secure anywhere and he also tends to have a lot of nightmares which doesn’t help. It’s hard for Papyrus to find a reason to even try to sleep when he could do something cool instead.

Sans instead will sleep for too long, going through phases where he’ll wake up in bed, not really see a point in getting up out of bed, and then drift back to sleep for another eight hours. Left to his own devices, there’s not a lot that he’ll feel like he HAS to get up and do, and if he does have something planned, he may put it off until the next day and sleep some more. He doesn’t move around very much while he’s sleeping, although his dreams don’t tend to be a lot of fun (particularly in a Handplates context), so I don’t know if I’d say he sleeps deeply exactly.

When they happen to sleep in the same place at the same time though, their habits can actually cancel each other out. Sans usually sleeps on top of Papyrus, which weighs him down and makes it so he can’t toss or turn as much and he sleeps more deeply and longer. Even so, Papyrus can’t stay asleep forever, so his natural restlessness makes sure that Sans can’t stay asleep for too long either, since when he wakes up, he forces Sans to wake up with him. If they’re settled well they can sleep pretty peacefully. In a Handplates context sleeping that way feels the most natural to them (and they have no idea why someone else might think it’s weird), and it makes dreamsharing very easy, although they do at times sleep apart. Sans also helps try to make sure Papyrus gets enough sleep by setting up bed routines (like stories) and Papyrus tries to keep Sans from oversleeping by dragging him off to work each day. They can sometimes kick and annoy each other though like anyone does, haha.

I also did a few comics about this in a way (of course I did), where Sans falls asleep when Papyrus is around/picking him up because Papyrus makes him feel safe, and one where Papyrus falls asleep when Sans is close by because then he knows Sans is safe and doesn’t have to worry about him. NOT THAT I THINK ABOUT THIS A LOT OR ANYTHING
