RENLY BARATHEON
Renly Baratheon is the Lord of Storm's End and Lord Paramount of the Stormlands. The younger brother of King Robert I and Lord Stannis, Renly serves as master of laws on Robert's small council.
Renly is described as a powerful man who is lean and lithe. He has a handsome, clean-shaven face. Renly greatly resembles a young King Robert I Baratheon, being near as tall as his eldest brother had been. Like Robert, Renly has an easy smile. He is taller and broader in the chest than Ser Loras Tyrell.
Renly's thick hair is described as black as jet and coal. His fine and straight hair currently falls to his shoulders, although Renly has sometimes kept it short or tied it behind his head with a golden ribbon. He always keeps his hair clean and combed.
Renly has been described as having laughing green eyes which match his armor, as well as deep blue eyes which resemble those of Robert. According to a semi-canon source, George R. R. Martin reconciled the difference by suggesting Renly has blue-green eyes which change color depending on what he wears.
Renly is a charismatic man, winning friends easily, but he also strikes some people as frivolous. Renly enjoys tourneys and hunting but is not driven by the passion for food, drink, or wenching as King Robert came to be. He is quite popular with smallfolk due to his good looks, friendly ways, and charisma. According to Maester Cressen, Renly is a bold man who acts from impulse. Queen Cersei Lannister dislikes her brother-in-law because of his mockery.
Renly wears expensive attire, such as a dark green velvet doublet embroidered with golden stags. He drapes a cloth-of-gold half cape over the doublet with an emerald brooch. Renly has a suit of enameled green armor with a helm adorned with a pair of golden antlers, which was made by Tobho Mott. He wields longsword and dagger.
Unbeknownst to the realm at large, and despite the many women who are attracted to him, Renly is homosexual. According to his lover, Loras, Renly disdains book learning, believing that books should only be read by maesters. Despite this, he owns books with "drawings that would turn a septon blind", implying some kind of pornography.
Born in 277 AC, Renly was the youngest of the three sons of Lord Steffon Baratheon and Lady Cassana Estermont. Renly's parent's died when their ship Windproud, returning from the Free Cities, sank in a storm in Shipbreaker Bay.
Renly grew up at Storm's End. Only a young boy at the time of Robert's Rebellion, he spent the war under siege in Storm's End, together with his older brother, Stannis, where he was witness to the desperation of the starving garrison.
As a boy, Renly loved bright colors and fabrics. He loved games as well, and would run laughing through the halls of Storm's End.
By his older brother, King Robert I Baratheon, Renly was eventually granted the seat of Storm's End and named Lord Paramount of the Stormlands, upsetting Stannis, who felt that, as the elder of the two, Storm's End was his by right.
When Renly turned sixteen, he made a lord's progress across the stormlands to mark his coming of age. During this progress, he also visited the isle of Tarth, where Renly courteously danced with Brienne of Tarth. Princess Arianne Martell recalls that Renly also visited Sunspear once. She had tried her best to seduce Renly, but remembers that he had seemed more bemused than inflamed by her attempts.
During his time as Lord of Storm's End, Renly took Loras Tyrell as his squire. Eventually, Renly and Loras became lovers. Although not widely known, various others at court are aware of their forbidden relationship.
Renly was eventually named to the small council, where he occupied the position of master of laws. While he is at court, his castellan at Storm's End is Ser Cortnay Penrose, who raises King Robert's bastard son, Edric Storm, for them. Brella runs Renly's household in King's Landing for him. Renly has thirty men in his personal guard at the capital.

STEFFON BARATHEON
Steffon Baratheon was the Lord of Storm's End and the head of House Baratheon during the reign of kings Jaehaerys II and Aerys II Targaryen.
In his youth, Steffon served as a page in King's Landing, where he became good friends with Prince Aerys Targaryen and Tywin Lannister.
Steffon participated as a squire in the War of the Ninepenny Kings in 260 AC. He became Lord of Storm's End and Lord Paramount of the Stormlands once his father, Lord Ormund Baratheon, was struck down by Maelys I Blackfyre during the war, with Ormund dying in his son's arms.
In the wake of the Defiance of Duskendale, Steffon's old friend and cousin, now King Aerys II Targaryen, summoned Steffon to court and named him to the small council. In 278 AC Aerys sent Steffon to Volantis to find a bride "of noble birth from an old Valyrian bloodline" for Prince Rhaegar, and it was rumored that Aerys intended to replace Tywin as Hand of the King with Steffon upon the latter's return. Steffon failed to find a suitable bride for Rhaegar, but he did send a message to Storm's End saying that he had found a very good fool. According to him, the fool was so funny he would teach Steffon's dour second son, Stannis, how to laugh.
On the return voyage Steffon's ship, the Windproud, was caught in a storm while in Shipbreaker Bay and sank within sight of Storm's End, killing Steffon along with his wife, Lady Cassana Estermont, and one hundred men. The only survivor was the fool, Patchface, who had lost his wits. According to Grand Maester Pycelle, Aerys was enraged by Steffon's death and believed it had been arranged by Tywin for fear of being replaced as Hand. Steffon was succeeded as Lord of Storm's End by his eldest son, Robert.

LYONEL BARATHEON
Lyonel Baratheon, known as the Laughing Storm, was the Lord of Storm's End and the head of House Baratheon during the reign of King Aegon V Targaryen. Lyonel was a "swaggering giant of a man"; he is described as being a head taller than Ser Raymun Fossoway and almost as tall as Ser Duncan the Tall, who was measured at 6'11". In tourneys, Lyonel wore a cloth-of-gold surcoat bearing the crowned stag of his house, and had an antlered helm. He had the habit of laughing loudly of his opponents which earned him his nickname of "the Laughing Storm" and made him a great favorite of the smallfolk. Lyonel was considered one of the finest fighters of his day. Lyonel brought glory onto House Baratheon.
Lyonel was a leal supporter of King Aegon V Targaryen when he was Lord of Storm's End, so the king was pleased to arrange a betrothal of his eldest son and heir, Prince Duncan Targaryen, to Lord Lyonel's daughter.
Prince Duncan later broke that betrothal when he fell in love and married the commonborn Jenny of Oldstones. This enraged Lord Lyonel, who felt the honor of House Baratheon was insulted. He renounced his fealty to the Iron Throne and declared himself Storm King. A short rebellion followed, which ended when Lyonel yielded to Ser Duncan the Tall of the Kingsguard during a trial by battle. Prince Duncan renounced his claim to the throne, and King Aegon agreed to betroth his youngest daughter, Princess Rhaelle Targaryen, to Lyonel's heir, Ormund Baratheon. Aegon V sent Rhaelle to Storm's End as Lord Lyonel's cupbearer and companion to his lady wife.
Lyonel had at least one daughter. His relation to his heir and successor, Lord Ormund Baratheon, is currently unknown. As well as his relation to Gowen Baratheon, the third son of a Lord of Storm's End reigning roughly at the time when Lyonel was the heir to Storm's End.

SHIREEN BARATHEON
Shireen Baratheon is a noblewoman of House Baratheon of Dragonstone, and is the daughter and only child of Lord Stannis Baratheon and Lady Selyse Florent.
When introduced in A Song of Ice and Fire, Shireen is nine years old. Shireen is regarded as a sad, sweet, gentle child, but she is not considered pretty. She has blue eyes, but inherited her father's square, jutting jaw, and her mother's large ears. Greyscale has left half of her left cheek and most of her neck covered in cracked and flaking, grey and black stony skin. She has suffered from nightmares since infancy.
Born at Dragonstone in 289 AC to Lord Stannis Baratheon and Lady Selyse Florent, Shireen contracted greyscale as an infant. The disease almost killed her, and left her disfigured. Cressen, Dragonstone's maester, feels that her sadness is a mark of his failure. As the daughter and heir of Stannis, Shireen resides in Dragonstone and is educated by Maester Cressen. She is usually seen in the company of Patchface, their mad fool that she calls "Patches", though his ravings sometimes frighten her.

SELYSE FLORENT
Selyse Florent, also known as Selyse Baratheon, is the wife of Lord Stannis Baratheon and is the Lady of Dragonstone. Selyse is a fervent worshiper of R'hllor and a supporter of Melisandre. Selyse is not a particularly attractive woman. She is as tall as her husband, thin, and has the Florent trait of too-large ears. Selyse has pale eyes, a sharp nose, and suffers from hair growth on her upper lip. Her mouth is stern and her voice a whip.
Her marriage to Lord Stannis of House Baratheon of Dragonstone is a loveless one, and the two have little patience for each other. They have one daughter, Shireen, a sad little girl bearing a disfigurement from greyscale. Selyse married Stannis in either 286 AC or 287 AC. During their wedding Stannis's elder brother, King Robert I Baratheon, deflowered Delena Florent, a cousin of Selyse, in the bed made for the newlyweds. Delena became pregnant and gave birth to a boy, Edric Storm. Selyse later said to her husband that because of this they were cursed and they had no sons.
Stannis is not fond of his wife. They seldom sleep together and despite their hopes they have no sons, only a daughter, Shireen.
Some years before the start of A Song of Ice and Fire, Lord Varys informed Robert's small council that Selyse had taken up with a red priest.

RHAELLE TARGARYEN
Princess Rhaelle Targaryen was the youngest child of King Aegon V Targaryen and Queen Betha Blackwood. She was married to Lord Ormund Baratheon of Storm's End.
In 237 AC, Rhaelle's four elder siblings had been betrothed: Prince Duncan to the daughter of Lord Lyonel Baratheon, Prince Jaehaerys to Celia Tully, Princess Shaera to Luthor Tyrell, and Prince Daeron to Olenna Redwyne. It was Rhaelle's eldest brother, Duncan, who broke his betrothal first, by marrying Jenny of Oldstones in 239 AC. This greatly angered Lord Lyonel, who rebelled against his king. A trial by combat, and the word of King Aegon V ended Lord Lyonel's rebellion, with an end result a betrothal, of Rhaelle to Lord Lyonel's son and heir, Ormund Baratheon.
To seal the bargain, Rhaelle was sent to Storm's End, where she would serve as a cupbearer, and be a companion to Lord Lyonel's wife. In 245 AC, the promise of King Aegon V was fulfilled, and Rhaelle and Ormund were wed. Their son, Steffon, was born the next year.
Rhaelle's marriage to Ormund would eventually be part of the end of the rule of House Targaryen. Rhaelle's grandchildren through Steffon would be Robert, Stannis and Renly Baratheon. It would be young Lord Robert, who would eventually lead the rebellion against Rhaelle's nephew, King Aerys II Targaryen. Legacy
Thus, through Rhaelle, Robert Baratheon descended from King Aegon V Targaryen and thus had a blood claim to the Iron Throne, which the maesters used to justify the outcome of Robert's Rebellion.

ORMUND BARATHEON
Ormund Baratheon was the Lord of Storm's End and head of House Baratheon during the second half of the reign of Aegon V Targaryen and during the reign of Jaehaerys II Targaryen. He served the latter as Hand of the King, until his death whilst commanding the royal army in the invasion of the Stepstones in the War of the Ninepenny Kings. He was married to Princess Rhaelle Targaryen, the youngest daughter of King Aegon V. Ormund was the father of Steffon Baratheon and grandfather to Robert Baratheon, who would eventually overthrow House Targaryen and become the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.
Ormund was the heir of Lord Lyonel Baratheon. Lord Lyonel rebelled against the Iron Throne after Prince Duncan Targaryen spurned Lyonel's daughter and married Jenny of Oldstones. The conflict was eventually settled and King Aegon V Targaryen's youngest daughter, Princess Rhaelle Targaryen, was betrothed to Ormund, and sent to live at Storm's End. In 245 AC they were married, and their son, and only known child, Steffon, was born a year later.
Ormund had inherited Storm's End already prior to his marriage. He became Hand of the King to his brother-in-law, King Jaehaerys II Targaryen, following the tragedy at Summerhall. When Jaehaerys decided to intervene militarily in the Stepstones to defeat the Band of Nine, Ormund was made commander of the expedition. He was one of the first to be killed, struck down by Maelys I Blackfyre, and died in the arms of his son and heir, Steffon. Command of the expedition passed to Ser Gerold Hightower, the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and Ormund was succeeded as Hand by Edgar Sloane.

St Lucy's Home For Girls Raised By Wolves
For years, the girls had been a pack, living in the forest. That's over now. They are brought to St. Lucy's Home where nuns show them how to behave like civilized humans do.
The movie "St Lucy's Home For Girls Raised By Wolves" is based on the short story by Karen Russell and was shot during a school film project in Meissen, Germany, in November 2022.
I made this film with my students in November last year and it has been one of the most ambitious movie projects I have ever done. We shot it on four days in a small castle close to our school.
About 35 people took part in the creation process. It's a labor of love, no commercial interests involved. The plot is based on the short story by American author Karen Russell and centers around a pack of wolf girls who are being "civilized" by nuns at St. Lucy's Home.
The more they adapt to human behavior, the less "natural" they become. It's in German but it has English subtitles.

"THE RAT COOK"
from THE LEGENDS OF THE NORTH CYCLE
According to legend, the man who would later be known as the Rat Cook was a simple cook at the Nightfort.
He became infamous when he served an Andal king (identified either as King Tywell II of the Rock or King Oswell I of the Vale) a pie that was made of bacon and, unknown to the king, the king's son. The cook killed the prince in revenge for a wrong the king supposedly did to him. The king was unaware of this, however, as he ate and praised the taste and asked for a second piece. The gods were angered — not because the cook had committed murder, nor because he had made the king a cannibal — but because the cook had slain a guest beneath his roof. They cursed the cook and transformed him into a massive rat who was doomed to be unable to eat anything but his own young.
According to the story, the Rat Cook is an enormous white rat who still lives in the Nightfort today, and all the other rats that inhabit the Nightfort are his descendants. Such is the infamy of the tale that there is a song about the Rat Cook that is still sung in the Seven Kingdoms, despite the fact that this incident was supposed to have happened hundreds of years before Aegon's Landing. The song is used to represent the repercussions to those who violate guest right, the sacred laws of hospitality.

THE LANNISTERS: TOMMEN BARATHEON
Prince Tommen Baratheon is known to the Seven Kingdoms as the youngest child of King Robert I Baratheon and Queen Cersei Lannister. A member of House Baratheon of King's Landing, his siblings are Prince Joffrey and Princess Myrcella.
Tommen is plump, with long white-blond hair. He has golden curls and emerald green eyes. At the beginning of A Song of Ice and Fire, he is seven years old.
Tommen, unlike Joffrey, is regarded as a good-hearted lad who always tries his best. Tommen is tenderhearted and not as strong-willed as his brother. Many other characters (except his mother) believe that he would be a much better king than Joffrey. Tommen is fond of applecakes, and enjoys reading. He is a clumsy but earnest dancer.

ROBERT BARATHEON
Robert I Baratheon is the King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm of Westeros, and the head of House Baratheon of King's Landing. Robert was crowned king after King Aerys II Targaryen, his first cousin once removed, was killed during Robert's Rebellion. Following the war, Robert married Cersei Lannister to ensure political stability. With her, Robert has three children: Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen.
Robert has the classical Baratheon look: black hair and bright blue eyes. His heavy black hair is thick on his chest, and coarse around his sex. He is a very tall man; Eddard Stark estimates his height to be six and a half feet. As a young adult, Robert was a handsome, clean-shaven man, with rough and hard hands. He was strong and powerful, and muscled "like a maiden's fantasy." In 289 AC, after putting down Greyjoy's Rebellion, Robert's appearance began to change. Due to excessive feasting and drinking, Robert gained a significant amount of weight. In the nine years since, he gained at least eight stone. Now, he is often red-faced from drink, with dark circles underneath his eyes, and walks as if he is half in his cups, while sweating through his silks. Robert's beard, a wild, thick and fierce thing, hides his double chin.
Well loved by soldiers, Robert is brave, but headstrong, rash, and impatient. He is proud, and will not likely back down on words spoken in a drunken bravado. As king, Robert is no longer used to someone disagreeing with him, and he can be manipulated by others if advised not to do something. Tyrion Lannister considers Robert to be a great blustering oaf, while Varys describes him as a fool. Cersei Lannister considers her husband to be an ignorant, dumb, slow-witted, drunken brute of a man, who does not have the ruthless streak she believes a king requires. Although several people consider Robert to be brave, Cersei believes him to be a coward. According to Petyr Baelish, Robert is practiced at closing his eyes to things he would rather not see.
Robert is as strong as a bull and fearless in battle. He loves the song of swords and considers poison to be a coward's weapon. As long as they are honest and brave, Robert can be merciful towards his defeated enemies, and he can inspire loyalty and friendship in those he spares. The only exception are the Targaryens; his hatred for them is a madness within him. A peerless warrior in his youth, Robert fought with a spiked iron warhammer, crafted at Storm's End by Donal Noye, although he also carried a blade. In battle, he wore a great antlered helmet, which made him look like a horned god. He prefers melees, in which he can hit people with his hammer, over jousts. Despite the numerous weapons in the royal armory, the only blade Robert uses is a hunting knife he received as a boy from Jon Arryn, his foster father. Although his condition has deteriorated due to his weight gain and frequent drinking, Robert remains a strong man; Jaime Lannister believes that Robert is stronger than him. Robert possesses a powerful battlefield voice. King Robert's Hammer is the largest warship in the royal fleet.
Robert is a man of huge appetites, who knows how to take his pleasures. He is quite promiscuous, and has fathered multiple bastard children. His lusts are the subject of ribald drinking songs throughout the realm. As king, Robert is not loath to impose upon the hospitality of his subjects, no matter whether it is voluntarily or forced. At the same time, however, Robert possesses a great, but rather careless, generosity. He is an avid hunter. Some of Robert's favorite songs are "A Cask of Ale," "Fifty-Four Tuns," and "The Bear and the Maiden Fair."

THE LANNISTERS: JAIME LANNISTER
Ser Jaime Lannister, also known as the Kingslayer, is a knight from House Lannister. He is the second child and first-born son of Lord Tywin Lannister of Casterly Rock and his wife, Lady Joanna, also of House Lannister. He is the twin brother of Queen Cersei Lannister.
Raised at the age of fifteen to the Kingsguard of the Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen, Jaime became the youngest member in the history of the prestigious knightly order. He earned the derogatory nickname "Kingslayer" when he treasonously slew Aerys near the end of Robert's Rebellion.
As young children, Jaime and his sister Cersei looked so much alike, that not even their father was able to tell them apart. Jaime grew into a tall, handsome man, with curled hair the color of beaten gold. He has flashing cat-green eyes, and a smile that cuts like a knife. Jon Snow thinks to himself that Jaime is "what a king should look like", and Bran Stark feels that Jaime looks like "more like the knights in the stories". He is muscular and extremely strong, musing that he could only think of a few men in the Seven Kingdoms stronger than him, and that his speed and skill can defeat them.
As a Kingsguard knight, Jaime wears white armor and a white cloak. On occasion he wears golden armor decorated with the Lannister lion, with gilded longsword and ornate lion's helmet. He slew the Mad King Aerys II Targaryen while wearing his white cloak over his golden armor. Jaime alternatively wears a crimson silk tunic embroidered with a golden lion, along with black boots and a black cloak. He also wears crimson cloaks and a leather jack. Jaime wields a lance of golden wood.
Jaime is a born warrior, with little interest in politics and court intrigue. He takes few things seriously. By his own admission, Jaime only feels truly alive when fighting or making love. He comes across as arrogant, amoral, and dishonorable. Because of the death of King Aerys, Jaime has earned such a bad reputation that everything he says is usually cast in the worst possible light.
Jaime is rash, headstrong, and angers quickly. He is known to have little patience, and he worries about the consequences of his actions only after committing the act. A great and especially skilled warrior, Jaime inspires loyalty in his men. He is bold and does not fear death. According to Catelyn Stark, Jaime is an experienced battle commander.

THE LANNISTERS: LANCEL LANNISTER
Lancel Lannister is a member of House Lannister of Casterly Rock and is the eldest son of Ser Kevan Lannister. Lancel and his cousin, Tyrek Lannister, are squires to King Robert I Baratheon.
A handsome and strong youth, Lancel has the thick sandy hair and green eyes of House Lannister. He has a wisp of a mustache. The boy is said to closely resemble his cousin, Ser Jaime Lannister of the Kingsguard, whom he admires.
Lancel is humorless, self-assured, arrogant as a Lannister, and impatient. Comely and well spoken, Lancel is able to sing. During one visit to Cersei's chambers in the Red Keep, Tyrion hears Lancel singing "The Seasons of My Love" to the accompaniment of a harpist and a piper.
The youth is also eager for glory. Queen Cersei Lannister insisted that King Robert I Baratheon take her cousins, Lancel and Tyrek, as squires. Cersei's father, Lord Tywin Lannister, ordered his nephew to obey all of Cersei's instructions.
Lancel may be a reference by George R. R. Martin to Lancelot, one of the Knights of the Round Table who had an adulterous affair with Queen Guinevere.
