The cast of the Original Trilogy had cliched, boring character concepts that were executed wonderfully enough for it not to matter.
The cast of the Prequel Trilogy had interesting concepts that were executed poorly enough to make them seem utterly stupid.
The cast of the Sequel Trilogy had amazing, thought-provoking concepts that were executed in the town square and put up on pikes as a warning to others.

If only John Boyega got this level of defense when he was getting hate

it needs to be said that robert pattinson's "idgaf I'll say it like it is I'll do what I want" attitude being seen as cute and quirky and funny and "real" while john boyega was ostracized and demonized and seen as "rude" and "ungrateful" for doing the exact same thing truly shows that y'all just absolutely refuse to include Black men in your celebrity culture
when rpattz hates on twilight it's funny and "omg so true!!" but when john was pointing out the straight up structural racism he was facing in the industry it's suddenly "unprofessional to criticize the thing that made you famous"

While I do enjoy seeing John unapologetically smacking Star Wars nerds down and telling them off after all these years, part of my heart has been slowly breaking over a long period of time because I can’t imagine the level of hurt and betrayal he had to have experienced being a fan of Star Wars himself and having all that racist vitriol be a part of his life for damn near five years.
I never got into Star Wars because it just wasn’t a thing my parents were into, and personally I’ve never been interested in a piece of media that saturates the world in whiteness. But a kid like John looked at this piece of media and fell so deeply in love with it. Part of what made me even interested in it was seeing him and how many people praised him when TFA came out. Because of him I was willing to give Star Wars a chance.
And now I won’t. I was sadly proven right about the level of white elitism within the entire landscape of the fandom but more importantly, watching John go from being genuinely excited about being a part of the project that served as one of his greatest childhood dreams and slowly morphing into someone that just can’t wait for this to be over so he doesn’t have to ever interact with the fandom ever again makes me so goddamn mad.
Antiblack racism in fandom space is one of the most dangerous aspects of this whole gambit. I truly mourn the Black children who really love a certain piece of media, especially if it’s sci-fi or fantasy, but we’re ultimately chased out of it because vitriolic white fans refuse to learn how to fucking share.

Me leaving the theatre December 17 2015: Wow! I can’t wait for Finn to become a Jedi and lead a storm trooper revolution, and Rey to be a skywalker/Kenobi, and Poe to be a main character with development and lead with Leia, and Luke helping his sister lead the new rebellion and train Finn and Rey. And Hux and Kylo and Phasma are gonna be an evil trio! So much cool stuff is gonna happen!

It’s also the fact that none of the other actors ever said shit. Like?? Sure Oscar and Kelly had their racist shit going on but the HUGE, LOUD campaigns against John were truly the most disgusting shit I’ve ever seen hurled at an actor. Also Adam?? And Daisy??? Daisy “This is my best friend I call him my peanut” Ridley??? Aka the most beloved of the trilogy the bitches with the biggest fucking privilege who would’ve had basically ZERO repercussions for speaking out. Nobody made so much as a TWEET of support saying “hey don’t call my cast mate slurs” like?? John had to deal with all of the racist bullshit on his fucking own and it makes me sick that he never got so much as a dime of support from anybody on the set it’s disgusting.

“I’m the only cast member who had their own unique experience of that franchise based on their race. Let’s just leave it like that. It makes you angry with a process like that. It makes you much more militant; it changes you. Because you realise, ‘I got given this opportunity but I’m in an industry that wasn’t even ready for me.’ Nobody else in the cast had people saying they were going to boycott the movie because [they were in it]. Nobody else had the uproar and death threats sent to their Instagram DMs and social media, saying, ‘Black this and black that and you shouldn’t be a Stormtrooper.’ Nobody else had that experience. But yet people are surprised that I’m this way. That’s my frustration.”
