Shimon probably did something outrageous to rich people offscreen and he's thinking about a way he could fix it. He won't berate her though. Kyouka's sassiness is very entertaining, and a great tool to work on some subtle character acting animation!

HIDA Mataro - CRAB CLAN (♂) A weathered warrior

Sometimes nicknamed "the Oni" by his opponents, his impressive stature and fighting skills used to be what defined him. He was, like many in his clan, a brutish warrior valuing nothing except the orders given to him. But after a terrible expedition in the Shadowlands, which left him tainted, and where he lost many close companions, something changed.

He healed slowly in a temple, where he left his impulsivity, and learned to see the world with more empathy, and a hope for peace. One thing that he could never overcome, though, was his newfound fear of water (being almost drowned by a otherworldy horrific creature does that to you). Life did not stop being cruel: his wife passed away from an illness of the Shadowlands, his son and daughter are more distant than ever, and the rest of his clan is not usually very fond of his new worldview.

But he carries on: there is no time to waste, especially when neither of his children are married yet! At least he now has new allies that understand and respect his ideals.

KITSUKI Shimon - DRAGON CLAN (♀) A hopeful monk and duelist

The Kitsuki family is known for their sharp and analytic minds, many of their members becoming reknowned investigators. Shimon is many things, kind, determined, but... not the one to naturally question things around her, or to understand the subtleties of politics and etiquette from just school lessons. She goes with the flow, and maybe it is why she has such an unusual connection to the spiritual world.

After fleeing from a lecture that was, once again, too abstract for her, Shimon got surprised by an avalanche, and had to survive in the wild. The Mirumoto teacher who found her was convinced by her willpower, and started transforming her into a skilled swordwoman. She still lacked the wisdom of an accomplished samurai, though, so he then sent her on a mission across the Empire to learn more about the world. Things got... complicated. She was attacked by a masked stranger, and rescued by Kyouka (and the theater troupe he was traveling with). Now, indebted to him, she enters a world of secrets and long forgotten wars. Also, her dead grandma is haunting her?... What's up with that.

IDE Aikasu - UNICORN CLAN (♂)

Quick-witted courtier (with a entrepreneur mindset)

The IDE family is not a very prestigious one. So despite his talent, and culture, AIkasu is used to not be taken seriously, including by his master, a cruel and self-centered man. The master's wife is, sadly, a bit of her husband's prisoner, and so Aikasu became her only friend, a breath of fresh air in her sheltered life.

Travelling across the lands on horseback, he tries to make a name for himself. A samurai is not supposed to care about trivial things like business, but... It can be a useful skill, especially if you have a charming and warm smile like he does. It doesn't work very well with lower castes though, maybe they see through the act. He is usually collected, an analyst, and he has a tricket for every occasion. He may not be trained a trained fighter like his companions, but he will not run from adversity.

SHINJO Eiko/Hotaru -UNICORN CLAN/RONIN (♀)

An arrogant princess turned ronin

Daughter of the head of her clan, blessed by the kami and promised to a great destiny, she was held sort-of captive in the capital, a token of loyalty from her father to the Emperor. It was immensely boring... so she escaped, and found herself in the same place as the others, by chance. Her immense status meant no one could really say no to her, and she abused that power greatly. The rest of the group were the first to offer some resistance to her tantrums, and that interested as much as it annoyed her. Because of this, she somehow ended up in a middle of a terrible battle with them by her side, where she barely survived.

After this incident, she promised herself to never, ever feel as powerless as she did in this forest. So... she temporarily gave up her title and her name (she now calls herself Hotaru, in the hope of evading the Imperials searching for her) to learn the sword with Shimon as her teacher. The duelist wasn't too keen on the idea, but it's not like Eiko would take no as an answer, so... she's now stuck with this brash, smart but unruly teenager as her student.

DOJI Kyouka - CRANE CLAN (♂)

Handsome courtier and wannabe superstar

A beautiful and vain young man. He knows his wits and adrogynous charms are a key to success and informations: but what he really cares for is the arts. Dancing is his lifelong passion, but it's not easy living as an artist in his world, especially as the firstborn of a prestigious family. It doesn't help that he failed to enter the Kakita dance academy that would have made him somewhat respectable... The school that finally took him in taught him useful skills, but still not ones that he could brag about: those of a shinobi, a ninja. He spent some time with the Scorpion clan, under a excentric Shosuro playwright, who lives the artistic and decadent lifestyle he dreams of. His time with this teacher may have influenced him... a bit much.

Although scheming and self-centered, he is very loyal to his companions, and see them with great respect. Maybe except Eiko, whose arrogance and shit attitude matches his own.

OUR CHARACTERS

WHERE:

We are playing in the Empire of Rokugan, the setting of the Legend of the 5 Ring card game and ttrpg. It's mainly inspired by the japanese feodal system, but you'll see a lot of influence from China, Mongolia, and a lot of anachronistic/unrelated elements... It is a very eurocentric view of Asia, there is no denying that. However, its lore, especially the rivalty and alliances between clans and people, create a perfect starting point for great and complex stories. We've played a lot and grown attached to our PCs, and we want to introduce them to you!

BAYUSHI AIKO - NPC

A matriarch of the Scorpion Clan. First seen as a foe, because of her cold and brutal methods, and the power she had to unleash an army on the Lion province the PCs were residing in, they ended up siding with her, and her family. They was the ones wronged in this conflit! It all started from a secret deal between the Lion and Scorpion clans, made long ago to end a war that was hurting both too much. The Scorpions accepted defeat, sending seven of their warriors to die at the hands of a Lion samurai that would known as the hero that ended the war, and humiliated their opponent. In exchange, seven favors were to be honored: but of course, when they needed it the most, the Lion failed to repay their debt...

sorry for the spam. Ive actually being drawing a lot recently (or as much as before) but between the AI-feeding-of-your-art stuff, and my work not always being fandom-focused, i didn't really want to post. But everyday i read people's tags, even on my old drawings, and I always appreciate it.
