Alphonse x gn!reader

Boo helps Alphonse re-touch his hair dye.

It was late at night, and Boo had been lounging all alone in Al's bed, mindlessly scrolling through TikTok when suddenly, a loud noise in the other room startled them. 

"UGH, Damnit!" Boo heard Alphonse frustratedly yell. Lowering their phone, they craned their head to the side, listening intently for any more noises. 

What the hell is going on out there? 

After a few moments of silence, Boo flung the blanket on their lap off to the side and swung their legs out of bed. They wandered silently down the hallway, pausing at the sight of light filtering out from the slightly ajar bathroom door. As they peered into the crack, they saw Alphonse leaning over the countertop, shirtless with a messy towel covered in old hair dye stains draped over his bare shoulders. Another dirty towel hung over the faucet head, and a box of hair dye with its contents spilled out across the counter. Al was vigorously rubbing at a spot on his neck when his eyes met Boo's through the mirror. 

"Hey there creeper," He smirked mischievously, tilting his head to the side. 

"I was wonderin' what you've been up to. I thought you said you were gonna take a shower?" Boo smiled, pushing the door open wider so they could rest against the doorframe. 

"Well, I was, but I was tryin' to touch up my roots first. It wasn't supposed to take this long. Admittedly, I shouldn't have started this when I was so damn tired." He let out a big sigh as he turned to face his Boo. They surveyed the room, which looked like a bomb went off with hair tools and products strewn about haphazardly. Then there were the streaks of pink smudged across Al's neck and face. Boo couldn't help but find the situation amusing, and a series of giggles fell from their lips.

"What are you laughing at?" Al pouted. 

"I don't know, it just- the whole time we've been together I've never seen you dye your hair before," they shrugged.  

"Besides, I thought you'd be a pro at this by now!" they laughed. 

"Hey now, don't bully me, I'm tired!" he chuckled. 

"Soo... you want some help with that?" They offered, pointing at the messy jar of hair dye with a thin brush sticking out the top. Alphonse glanced back at the jar and then up at himself in the mirror before letting out a tired sigh.

"I suppose you can't do more damage than I've already done." he chuckled. 

"Okok, gimme a second!" Boo said excitedly before rushing away. A few moments later, they returned wearing an old oversized t-shirt, lugging a chair in one hand and two Laffy Taffy ropes in the other. 

"Here," they shrugged the chair forward towards Al.

"Sit on this. Otherwise, I'll never be able to reach the top of your head." Alphonse took the chair and positioned himself so Boo could access the sink and countertop with ease. 

"Thanks, babe," Al said softly, pulling at the wrapper of his Laffy Taffy candy. Boo turned on some soft background music before getting to work. They scooped up the jar of pink dye and stirred it to check the amount of product left. Although it was a bit messy, Al seemed to have covered most of the spots towards the back of his head that required attention. Boo gently turned Al's face to the side and started to apply thin layers of pink dye to the bleach-lightened areas on the side of his head. Alphonse quietly watched through the mirror as Boo worked on his hair, the Laffy Taffy rope hanging from the side of their mouth as they focused on the task at hand.

In no time, both sides were done. All that was left was some of the top and front parts of the hair. As they stepped in closer, Al inhaled deeply, taking in the calming humming and scent that filled his senses and made his heart flutter. Mindlessly, his hand brushed gently along the side of Boo's thigh.

"Hey, what are you doing silly?" Boo said, stopping mid-brush as Al tilted his head up to look into their eyes, a dopey smile spread across his blush-kissed face. With a firm yet delicate motion, Al grabbed the sides of Boo's waist and pulled them down into his lap. 

"I appreciate you takin' care of me, you know that right?" He said, running his hand alongside their jaw to cup their face.

"I know," they hummed lovingly. The two looked at each other and smiled, the air between them felt almost electric. Without another word, Alphonse pulled Boo in, their lips meeting in a soft, sweet kiss.

this traumatizes a young maurice sendak, as it is the first moment he really understands his mortality and that he as a child is not safe. the image of the lindbergh baby sticks with him his entire life

maurice sendak grows up and becomes an accomplished author and illustrator. he decides to put his childhood fear to rest with a book called outside over there

in outside over there, a young girl wishes she didn’t have to take care of her baby brother, and he is kidnapped away by goblins. she has to venture into “outside over there” to save him.

jim henson, in the midst of planning his next movie, reads the book and realizes it would be great source material for his next film. outside over there is credited as source material in the credits of, and appears as a prop in one scene of……

{Long Post}

I think one thing I really like about the ambiguity of the main BS trio is that, at least for me, it kinda reflects some of the complicated queer platonic relationships I've been in.

I think there is a sort of idea that you're either with someone or your not, at least as far as heteronormatity and monogamy goes. And even sometimes within the LGBT community, this carries on in the idea that your bond to a person/people in these contexts is always strictly romantic or platonic. Granted, amongst queer this isn't SUPER common, but I've noticed it especially as a southern queer, farther out from my state's main city. Something something, inserting hetero standards into queer relationships, yadda yadda respectability politics, Yap Yap Yap, that could be a whole other post.

But I digress. The complicated nature of their dynamic just really speaks to me. Because exes aren't always just like "that crazy mf I was with" or something like that. When someone means a lot to you, when they were a big part of your life, you're not always gonna just toss that aside. And not all polycules are even romantic. Bittersweet is obviously gay, that's not a secret, but it's very queer by design in this way. Displaying the complexities of QPR both through their relationship model, and the internal conflicts they have to overcome on order to make a dynamic like that work.

I also like that shit isn't entirely sweet immediately either. It's awkward and kinda a missed high five at times, but the characters persist anyways, finding value in knowing and caring for one another. :} Like I really fw that.

And granted, most of us aren't working through like, killing some greasy ass weasel or anything like that (I should hope), but even for veterans of poly dynamics, sometimes you're gonna have to look inside and work. Face some truths, talk out uncomfortable shit, and do the next right thing :0

Idk, this isn't me having a super organized essey (though the autism is making me VERY tempted to go full TNR 12 point about BS), just a thought stream before I have to go and do my day, lol. BS means a lot to me, but I think this is the first time I've really realized how it's reflected queerness in a way that I find especially relatable :3 I think that's pretty cool.

Tldr; As far as my own interpretation goes, I feel as though Al/Seth/SugBoo reflect a QPR dynamic that's authentic and rlly relatable :3 It be like that frl.

Hey, happy Earth Day! Who wants to talk about climate change?

Yeah, okay, fair, I kinda figured the answer to that would be "ugh do we have to?" What if I told you I have good news though? Good news with caveats, but still good news.

What if I told you that since the Paris Agreement in 2015, we've avoided a whole degree celsius of global warming by 2100, or maybe more?

Current projections are 2.7C, which is way better than the 3-5C (with a median of 3.7C) we were expecting in 2015. It's not where we want to be - 1.5C - but it is big, noticeable progress!

And it's not like we either hit 1.5C and avoid all the big scary consequences or fail to hit 1.5C and get all of them - every tenth of a degree of warming we avoid is going to prevent more severe problems like extreme weather, sea level rise, etc.

This means that climate change mitigation efforts are having a noticeable impact! This means a dramatically better, safer future - and if we keep pushing, we could lower the amount of global warming we end up with even further. This is huge progress, and we need to celebrate it, even though the fight isn't over.

It's working. Keep going.

I don’t know if you’re a spiritual person, Hell I’m not, but when you know. You know.”

I cannot fucking describe to you how much I love this line. This may be one of my favorite lines in bittersweet, and it’s from when Seth was trying to be a big tough guy.

Like it’s really cool and even impressive to me that Yuuri so accurately foreshadowed themes for the rest of the series before bittersweet was even fully fleshed out.

Also it’s an idea that I’m just in love with outside of all the magic stuff in the yuuriverse. Just the idea of knowing someone, knowing their soul, even if you haven’t really known them. It’s just something I adore.

It also makes me think about the possibility for a little like AU that wasn’t so distant where Al, Seth, and Boo grew up together as kids and that shit is adorable.

But when I sit and think about that line from like the character’s stand point it makes me giggle so much. Because there are two routes you can take with it. a: Seth trying to be like intimidating to Boo being like “I know you” as if that would scare them. Which is really funny if that’s the case because how the fuck did he accurately predict that larger narrative of the story in second stand alone audio?? Or b: It was genuinely and Seth was going off on a genuine spiritual rant to a person he has just met who is dating his ex AND it also implies that Seth just inherently knew shit that no one else did?! Even Boo at the end of his rant was kind of like “what the fuck are you talking about”. It’s so funny to think about Seth accurately predicting the larger narrative of Bittersweet and Boo just looking at him like he’s fucking crazy.

Dude! And after that “dream” about Derek, I KNOW they were probably side-eyeing Seth because he said all of that shit when they first met???

I don’t know I just really love that part. Omg. It’s so good in every sense.
