Dear Berries, Unfortunately I am no longer able to update this blog on a regular basis. Some of you may know that I work in theatre and let me tell you, it is a busy life. Usually, I have a 12 hours day and once I am done, I just want to go home and spend time with my family rather than checking online for any news. Thank you all for your support, I really enjoyed our little projects and interacting with you! I won't delete this blog, it will simply not be updated anymore. I know there are a couple of very good blogs about Luke so you won't miss out ;) Thanks for your support! LukeNewberryFans

Teddy Ferrara review
My review is based on the first preview and will include spoilers.
Teddy Ferrara is a lonely college student, who spends more time online in dubious chat rooms than he actually does with real people. He finds out that his roommate films and streams Teddy's sex life and in the end, Teddy jumps off the library roof and kills himself. But that's not really the main plot in Christopher Shinn's story. Actually, there are two more main plots: There's Gabe, who leads a LGBT group and thinks about running for student president. It seems like nothing can go wrong for sweet, innocent Gabe. But you are in for a few surprises...
Gabe's boyfriend Drew struggles with the demons from his past: a popular student killed himself a year ago and Drew thinks it is because the student was in the closet. Of course Drew would know, after all, they had sex. History seems to repeat itself, when Drew meets Tim, Gabe's best and very heterosexual friend.
The Donmar Warehouse production has a beautiful set and I applaud Hildegard Bechtler for it. It is so simple, and yet so effective. The same goes for the lighting design. Paule Constable manages to show us different locations without changing the set, but simply using light. Given the small space, I think they did a great job on that!
I had never heard about Ryan McParland before but I will definitely keep an eye on him now! His Teddy made me go from loving the character to feeling disgusted within seconds. And boy, does he have a great voice! When Teddy kills himself, Ryan is on top of the set and steps on the edge before the light cuts to a full blackout. Major respect for doing that! Just watching him made me scared to fall off. Matthew Marsh as the president had me on the edge of my seat as well. He gives a wonderfully ignorant white cis hetero male, I actually forgot that it was a play at some points and just wanted to yell at him.
Luke Newberry and Oliver Johnstone have a great chemistry on stage. Their kisses and make out scenes never feel wrong. They are very convincing as a couple. Luke is definitely a stage actor. Every line and every move is on point and even when the focus is not on him, he still gives 100% and that shows. I really enjoyed that.
I wish I could write that much about the other cast members but they fell a bit short. That is probably because of the nature of the script, but I would have loved to see more of them. Christopher Imbrosciano was so sweet as Jay, I just wanted to hug him. I hope to see more of Nathan Wiley soon, I think he was not able to show his full potential in this production and we only saw a glimpse of how good of an actor he actually is. Same goes for Anjli Mohindra. Jenny (as well as Jaq, who is played by Griffyn Gilligan and Nicky played by Kadiff Kirwan) seems to be only a plot device rather than being a fully developed character. Again, that is a flaw of the script, not the production. The only thing I have to criticise about the production is the rather abrupt end which lead to a rather awkward moment of silence because the audience didn't know the play was over. But who knows, maybe they changed that during previews?
You should definitely go and see this play if you want to know more about the struggles of the LGBTQA community. Don't worry if you know nothing about it, you will still be entertained and able to follow the plot

Luke Newberry: 'From Darkness is my most grown-up role so far'
Tumblr media
Luke Newberry has hinted that new drama From Darkness will see him take on his most “grown-up” role to date.
“He’s very intelligent,” Newberry told press including Digital Spy. “But now he’s a Detective Sergeant and he’s been fast-tracked into this role. So he’s kind of floundering a bit when we first meet him - he’s not your typical guy to go into the Met.”
“It is a dark story and Boyce offers us a bit of a laugh at times,” Newberry said. “But then the scenes between Boyce and [his partner] John [Johnny Harris] later on in the story are more poignant.
"It was one of the appeals of it - that it was just very different to what I’ve been doing. I think Boyce is about 26 or 27 - and for Boyce stepping into this new role, it was like me stepping into a more grown-up role as an actor. So I felt in sync with him.” Continue reading at Digital Spy

First preview (no spoilers) and a thank you from Luke
I just got home from the first Teddy Ferrara preview. You can read my full review after the official press night, but I still want to share my experience with you! Luke is definitely a stage actor. Every line, every movement was on point. He didn’t slip once. And if he did, I didn’t notice. The play itself is so intense, I think I need a while to recover from that. It is very physical and the story hit me right in the guts. As a non-heterosexual person myself, I could see a lot of myself in it. I met Luke afterwards, we hugged and talked about the play. Not too long though, because the cast and crew had first night drinks and he had to get back to that. He thanked me for the birthday project: “I was actually quite overwhelmed” Thanks again to everyone who took part in this! So, all in all, it was a very good night and you will all enjoy Teddy Ferrara!
