The amount of trash I have had to wade through to find the few gems of fanfiction that are genuine writing excellence and resonant with the source material is both fantastical as it is ridiculous.

But there is something so deeply satisfying about finding versions of your favorite stories that perfectly scratch all of those "what ifs" and ends it in a way that just feels perfect for the plot, essence, and vibe of the story that wading through said Trash™️ fics just makes it worth it.

There are some things you can never un-read; but one learns how to filter and search accordingly *very* quickly.

Can you imagine how fucking wild ladies must have gone for the rejection in pride and prejudice right after it was first published. This guy’s making ten thousand a year and her family is expecting her to find accommodation for herself sooner rather than later and STILL Lizzie is like “no. No. True love only. And also while I’ve got you here please accept my invitation to fuck off.” I would’ve lost my damn gourd, I would’ve gone bonkers. And group chats didn’t exist so you’d just have to hope your friends were as far into the book as you so you could meet at the village green to throw a fucking riot

like! people always reference pride & prejudice as the archetypal “normal girl falls for mysterious brooding antihero” story but they overlook the part where lizzy drags darcy so fucking hard he leaves town and then apologizes for talking to her the next time they meet even though they’re at his literal house
