welcome to a redacted soul eater au post! here, i try and discover what it'd be like if you merged the soul eater world and mechanics within the redactedverse. this is the eleventh post in the series! we've got sam & darlin' on the menu today. enjoy!

sam — soul type: weapon weapon type: dagger compatible with: darlin'

as mentioned before in previous posts, vampire souls are tricky to match when it comes to wavelengths with non-vampire partners. seen in porter's post, where he and his partner are not yet compatible, and in vincent's post where their [vincent and lovely's] compatibility emerged through trauma & lovely's turning, vampires have it difficult.

however, through the sheer willpower and genuine love that comes from sam and darlin's relationship, they appeared almost compatible from the start. as sam got closer and opened up more and more, it seemed like they were made for eachother from the beginning, and the two match incredibly well as a weapon/meister pair. darlin's up-close fighting style resonates incredibly with sam's close-combat dagger form, and the two make a scary- but admirable- duo.

i won't say this often in this series, but these two were easy to get from the start. they're the perfect pair (cue beabadoobee) and i knew i wanted sam to be a dagger, purely because darlin' being a melee fighter made sense with their werewolf status!

darlin' —  soul type: meister strongest meister ability: soul resonance - a technique where special attacks are made when resonating with their weapon's soul. compatible with: sam

werewolves, due to their natural ability to shift into a different form, are usually weapons. darlin' isn't. this is something people are often surprised to hear when it comes to it, but darlin' isn't ashamed to admit it.

darlin's soul has struggled to maintain a connection with others before. there was an instance where they thought they'd be able to match wavelengths with someone, but that man led them astray with expectations of highs and lows. fortunately, as they've confided in sam and grown closer with him, they've realised that the highs and lows aren't what they needed, but to have a steady love from the start.

i'm going to be making bonus episodes on both quinn and alexis at a later date, but those two have core positions in this au that makes their stories a little more interesting!

lite backstory: for every post i make for the characters, i'll add some au backstory to really fill in some details you may be curious about!

sam and darlin' met in the same way- darlin', looking for answers on the property of a tired vampire trying to get by with his already chaotic life. however, unlike what we know the canon story to be, sam had his own hunt going on that he was preparing to get towards. hearing stories of an old foe inviting dangerous beings over for tea parties? unexpected, but his trust in william's word was enough for him to look more into it. and, as darlin' got to understanding his situation, they took part of the matter into their own hands.

now, hunting both their own enemies, the two make a fierce pair when it comes to weapon/meister partners. and, as soul after soul are reaped, they'll find what they're looking for. eventually.

I fear we moved on from "Risking It All With Your Demon" too quickly.

Avior ramble.

This video is my go to every time this world feels like it's gonna swallow me whole.

I listen to Avior starting to explain sovereign lore in such a calm tone. But he isn't calm, he's tired. And he's using the last energy he has left to try and tell the love of his life to not kill themselves.

He tells the story of how many questions he asked Cercinus. A story he most likely has told them before. But they can't remember.

He talks of religion, creation myths, forces of nature and the things he can't explain. He doesn't explain what happened to him to make them feel bad about his situation. He is re-telling all of the trauma he went through to warn them.

And then he still does what he promised. He won't stand in their way. He lets them make their own choice.

And at the beginning his voice sounds like he has surrendered. Then it gets desperate. "And I'm terrified of what it's gonna do once it has you. Is the answer worth having, if you don't survive to tell it?" He wants to scream. His voice sounds like he wants to shout at them, at the trap, at the world, that everything about this is so fucking unfair.

That he has seen it before. And that he knows he will lose them again.

I always break at "please don't ask me that. Because if you ask me how I feel, I'll tell you the truth, and I doubt that's what you wanna hear right now".

He's honest. Throughout this whole video it feels like he is walking the line of being honest but choosing his words so carefully as to not use his honesty to drag them back to him. To inform their choice. Not to make it for them.

He is close to crying throughout the whole talk but he breaks when they choose to hug him. That's when he cries. And that's when he talks about how much he cares and still cares about them. Not about how they cared for him. How he cared for them. And still does.

And then:

"Be safe, Starlight."

Because in his eyes that is the only thing they should focus on. Not seeing him again, not getting their memories back, not finding answers, not escaping the hellscape. Just. Being safe.

How long was he in there without them again? A minute? Five? A few seconds?

He started unraveling in this audio. However long it took for the sovereigns to talk to Starlight, even after those torturous years alone, that was his rock bottom.

welcome to a redacted soul eater au post! here, i try and discover what it'd be like if you merged the soul eater world and mechanics within the redactedverse. this is the tenth (wow!) post in the series! we've got porter & treasure on the menu. enjoy!

porter —  soul type: meister strongest meister ability: soul adjust - an advanced meister technique involved in wavelength control. it allows the meister to adjust another person's wavelength as long as the meister is stronger than their target. compatible with: ?

since porter has a vampire soul, his compatibility with other vampires is heightened, but with non-vampires it's incredibly thinly met. (un)fortunately, porter is a persistant man, and strives to find a weapon partner outside of the vampiric roster. he, also, has a slight competitive streak with seeing who's a better meister between himself and vincent.

even though porter's strongest ability is soul adjust, he doesn't utilise it. it's something that, as he grew older, he wanted to perfect, but he wields it very carefully. he explicitly insists he hasn't used it with any human he's encountered, including treasure, so it's sometimes pondered on if he's lying or if he's simply fragile with such a power.

making porter an advanced meister (given his ability to adjust souls) was a last minute decision. i think it suits him, though, because even though he has this typical playboy personality, he takes things seriously and to heart. i do think he'd spend several years training specific abilities just so he can say he has them to utilise. (also, i like to think it's how he also doesn't use trancing, but can. in his first audio with treasure it's drummed into you that he's looking into their eyes, but isn't doing anything. i like to think he does the same with adjustment. he doesn't adjust treasure's soul, but he certainly could).

treasure — soul type: demon weapon weapon type: sword types- dominantly a cutlass. compatible with: ?

treasure, as an unempowered, is considered pretty rare given that they're a demon weapon. this happens enough for it to be considered an occurence outside of need for research, but it's definitely a 'gift'. for treasure, their form can change between several different sword types, however they tend to utilise the cutlass form the most.

both surprisingly and not, treasure and porter do not have compatible wavelengths yet. treasure is the closest porter has gotten with someone on such a sentimental level, however, and so there's a steady incline with how close they're getting to being compatible. even so, this doesn't change their relationship, even if treasure has mentioned they wish they could be compatible for him as of now.

making vampires have a difficult compatibility with humans was a choice i liked making, because it makes sense! they have different souls, different way of life, and several humane changes that make it understandable for their wavelengths to rarely match. with porter and treasure i wanted to display that even though they aren't compatible yet on weaponry terms, they're still emotionally tact, and are nearing that point.

lite backstory: for every post i make for the characters, i'll add some au backstory to really fill in some details you may be curious about! (contextually: when someone's soul isn't met with their partner, the meister's hands will burn when attempting to hold the weapon. this is the wavelength's way of telling them that they aren't compatible)

"Don't say such things," Porter drapes a shaky hand over Treasure's head, petting them subtly before it drags down to their cheek, "This sort of thing doesn't dictate your worth at all."

"Your hands burnt," they whisper back slightly, and Porter's careless smile wavers a little, "I hurt you."

"It's nothing I can't handle." He insists, shaking his head. They look at him, and he presses a gentle kiss to their forehead. "Our relationship- it isn't anything more or less without the complications of a weapon partnership, treasure. We won't be anything less. You don't mean any less to me."

They meet his eyes, and he smiles again. He gives them a confident look, his fingers intertwining with theirs.

"When the time comes, it comes. For now, why don't we head back? Maybe a shower, hm?"

With a short laugh, they nod, pressing their lips against his. When the time comes, it'll come.
