Let us never forget how somehow Square Enix got Florence + the Machine to record an absolutely beautiful, Final Fantasy-esque cover of âStand by Me,â and then played it during the opening scene of Final Fantasy XV where four dorks are pushing their broken-down convertible down a country back road and youâre sitting their like âaww, thatâs quirky, thatâs kinda cute,â but when they play it again during the end credits of the game youâre sobbing facedown into your living room carpet

I was looking at the document where I keep a bunch of quotes I like, and there are some that I think of as very Ironstrange-coded (or at least Stephen-coded, as I think of this one). So I thought I'd send a couple and see what you make of them.
My prayer is simple, my child, my child,
Please, do try to understand:
Iâve given you freedom, and left you with choices
Now youâre at the beginning,
Again.
-Wyvernhail, Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
When it comes to poetry, I must include a bit of a disclaimer/warning: My brain does not get poetry. At all. There is something about poetry that just does not compute for me. So it is entirely possible that my responses to poetry prompts are either going to be painfully literal, or go off on a tangent that leaves you scratching your head. I mean, all prompt responses run that risk, but itâs going to be especially bad with poetry. đ
That said, here we go!

Stephen wakes up in the hospital.
The last he remembers, he was on a battlefield, watching Tony Stark prepare himself to snap. Itâs not inconceivable that he could have been hospitalized after that and lost a few hours of memory to the trauma, but the possibility never even occurs to him, because he wakes up to a haze of painkillers and the sight of his hands absolutely covered in external fixators.Â
Christine is beside him, telling him everything will be okay. Stephen doesnât respond. What is he supposed to say? Heâs been here before. He knows, in the marrow of him, that this is no nightmare or flashback. He really has been sent back in time. He closes his eyes and shuts everyone out and canât bring himself to care how worrying that must be.
The next day, while Stephen is staring into the distance, thereâs a commotion out in the hall. It gets louder, and louder, and then his roomâs door slams open and Tony Stark strides in. He looks momentarily taken aback at the sight of Stephen, but recovers quickly. âStrange, would you tell your overprotective guard dogs that itâs okay for me to stay and chat?â Christine, two nurses, and at least one security guard pile into the room after him, bringing raised voices with them.
Somehow, it never occurred to Stephen that he might not have come back alone. The relief is overwhelming, but he forces himself to find his voice. âItâs fine.â The words are barely a croakâhe hasnât spoken in awhileâbut they capture Christineâs attention and the others follow her lead.
âStephen, are you sure?â she asks, casting Stark a skeptical look.
He hadnât been Starkâs biggest fan, Stephen abruptly remembers. Oh well. âIâm sure. Actually, if we could speak aloneâŠâ
Christine isnât sold on the idea, but Tony steps in and ushers them all out the door. When itâs closed he turns back to Stephen and pauses a moment to take in the wreck the accident has made of Stephen. âIâm sorry about this,â Tony says, waving at him. âThe stones put all kinds of conditions on when I could go to and who I could take with me without just splitting our timeline into a new branch instead of getting a proper do-over. Iâd have landed us after your recovery, butâŠâ Tony looks abruptly exhausted, â...honestly, we need all the time we can get. We donât have months to spare.â
âI understand,â Stephen says. He takes a careful, steadying breath. âThe painkillers have me a little foggy, but our first step has to be documenting future events. I can do that.â
Tony pulls up a chair next to Stephenâs bed and projects a hologram from his wrist.
They get to work.

Keeper of Yggdrasil
I have a lot of Thoughts about the Loki series as a whole BUT the visual of Yggdrasil and the timelines was absolutely stunning, so I knew I had to do a rendition of it with a new costume. I loved the idea of Loki physically becoming part of the Tree, with all the branches washing over him like veins, obscuring old pieces of armour and melding with his true Jotun form. (and of course I had to do a glowy eyes version!)

Tony finding out about the timeloops with Dormammu because Stephen's filter is compromised by injuries/drugs/exhaustion/etc.
Warning for brief description of nasty injuries in the first paragraph.

Stephen Strange has the highest pain tolerance of anyone Tony has ever met, including himself and everyone heâs ever met that has super-healing. The man canâand hasâcalmly talked a teammate through removing multiple barbed spines skewering his own limbs. So when Tony lands next to him, post-battle, and finds him muttering, âItâs go away, just wait a moment, itâll be gone any moment now,â itâs seriously alarming.
âStrange!â Tony says sharply, dropping to his knees and retracting the helmet. âTell me whatâs wrong so I can help.â He runs a quick scan, but the only thing the suit picks up is a very bloody but not life threatening gash in his leg. For Strange to be this out of it, there must be something a lot worse going on.
Strange looks up at him and blinks, frowning. âTony?âÂ
Theyâre not usually on a first name basis, but thatâs been due to Strangeâs reserve more than Tonyâs. âYeah, Stephen, Iâm here.â He retracts a gauntlet and carefully takes the manâs hand. Itâs shaking hard, much worse than normal.Â
âYou shouldnât be here.â Strange grips his hand tightly, enough that it has to hurt. âI donât know if the time loop will include you, you have to go before Dormammu returns.â
The pieces all slot together. Strange is having some sort of flashback. âYouâre in New York,â Tony says, as steadily as he can. âYouâre in New York with me, with Tony Stark, and we just finished herding about a thousand flying demons back to their own dimension. Dormammu isnât here, Stephen.â
But Strange just laughs, a tired, broken thing. âHeâs not here now,â Strange says. âBut he will be. He always comes back, and he always kills me again. He has toâI made the loop that way.â Stephen raises his other hand to clasp Tonyâs between his. âBut you donât have to be here,â he says fiercely. âYou donât have to suffer.â
Tonyâs heart breaks. âStephen, itâs over,â he says quietly. âYou won.â
Stephen laughs. âI canât win. But I can lose. Over and over, forever.â
Tony doesnât know what he can say to that, so he just pulls Stephen into his arms and holds onto him and waits for him to realize where and when he is. It takes longer than he expects, maybe fifteen minutes, before Strange finally murmurs, âTony. You can let go now.â
Tony eases back so that he can look at Stephen, but doesnât let go completely. âWhat happened?â he asked, because heâs never seen Strange lose it like that.Â
Stephen huffs a wry laugh. âMagical exhaustion,â he says. âI really should have called for another mystic to help with those demons. Using up my reserves like that compromises mental control. Itâs dangerous, for a sorcerer.â
And embarrassing, Tony expects, but if Stephen wants to sidestep that, Tony isnât going to fight him on it. âAnything I can do to help?â
âBelieve it or not, that hug helped a lot,â Stephen says. âPhysical contact is good for restoring magical energy.â
Thatâs not the only thing itâs good for, but Tony doesnât say anything, just keeps a hand under Stephenâs elbow as he helps him to his feet. âCome on. Letâs get that gash looked at.â
Stephen nods.Â
He doesnât pull away from Tonyâs grip.
