This nightmare monstrosity of a goodest boy took so long from concept to completion. I had so many references up from wolf skulls and timber wolves to lichens and moss rofl. I'm crazy proud of him though and i want to do a full painting of him sometime.

He is done in ink and water color markers.

This is, so far, done in colored pencils, oil pastels and chalk pastels. My instructor had us pitch ideas for this final project. My idea was "i wanna attack the viewer" 🤣

Still just... trusting the process. Really enjoying it though. My entire goal for this piece is to see just how far i can push it in a month of working on it.

This was originally a pastel drawing of a character i created. His name is Nyxes. Hes a bartender at the copper pot inn and tavern. He is a mischievous, flirty weasel with a heart of gold.

So i had crit today on this piece. It was a really personal piece and while the mental obstacles painting it were difficult, talking about it was 1000 times harder. I tried grounding before i introduced the piece, but i wasn't ready for it and it hurt.

This piece was based on grief and i thought it would help a lot, but when i introduced the piece, i choked up and fought against crying. It looked like most of my classmates really got a sense of the weight of it. Several looked distraught and i wasn't able to fully explain the piece.

It was a rough critique. I pushed too hard. I want to do something different next time.

Edit: I posted this hours ago but I'm starting to nitpick at this. I was really proud of it but the more i look at it, the more mistakes i see and it's frustrating. I want to love it, but I'm starting to dislike it. 😫 i am my own worst critic.

This is messing with my head.

The photo is one i took of ice flowers last December.

I really didn't like the pose or the saturation of the colors on this so I did some fixing today. I feel like this far more effectively conveys the feelings of the moment. I'm still not entirely happy with the bubbles but that's gonna be a process just like the clouds were. It feels more... frantic and panicked. The feeling of being dragged under into the darkness.

It isn't nearly done and honestly I don't think it'll be finished by crit either but I'm putting everything into it. This is a very personal painting and I want to give it the time it deserves.
