“English isn’t my first language, sorry!” say fic writers before proceeding to deliver the most beautiful, well-written, heart-wrenching story I’ve ever read in my over two decades of English reading experience
Y’all are doing so great, you never have to apologize!! I guarantee your English is better than my any-other-language

The way they emphasized the “there are two sides to every story” for Medusa’s history in episode 3 was actually really cool.
Medusa has long been a symbol for women who have been used and abused by men in power and condemned for what others have done to them. I loved that they pulled that in from ep 1 with Percy and Sally’s talk in the museum and then made sure to call back to it in ep 3.
The way they let Medusa be angry about it is what really stood out to me. Like yeah. She has every right to be pissed. She gave her life to Athena and was punished for how a man (a GOD) took advantage of her.
But I really liked that they kept the truth ambiguous. We don’t know who to believe or trust and we want to help those who need it but how far are we willing to go? Especially when helping one person/cause hurts another? It sows that little bit of distrust in the gods that makes us feel for those who fight against them, which comes to be so important later on (*cough*Luke*cough*).

Hot(?) take, but the way tv/movies write therapy talks has kind of ruined character development and arcs
Like, let the characters go to the brink. Let the subtext speak for itself. Let their friends/families have to realize they’re collapsing and pull them back. Let them go insane and fall apart. And when they do talk about it, write it how people who don’t have a psych degree would talk about it
Like, yeah, we know it’s his abandonment and trust issues stemming from his poor relationship with his father, but let him figure that out through his relationships and experiences. Let us get frustrated with him, let his friends get frustrated with him. Let his be human about it
So many of these dialogues are written the way I would write a character psychoanalysis for an english class and that bothers me
Anyway, just some thoughts

Kind of didn’t love the pacing of episode 3? Like with Alecto following them to Auntie Em’s and them automatically knowing who “Auntie Em” is? Like I know the pacing is always gonna be different book to tv show but I def think it could’ve been paced better. If they had changed the way Medusa’s myth is told from the books to the show and kept her as like an antihero/reluctant ally? That would’ve made more sense. But instead they focused so much time on the Emporium and therapy-bonding w the trio and left no time for the nuances of the story progression. In this case, I think I prefer the way to movie told the Auntie Em part ngl
On the other hand (she said calmly), Aryan Simhadri is Baby and his Grover is Baby and they must be protected the CONSENSUS SONG THAT WAS THE MOST GROVER UNDERWOOD SHIT I EVER SEEN

Leo: *tapping out I love you in Morse code*
Percy, who is automatically fluent in Morse code bc it’s the main maritime language and severely sleep-deprived: I love you too, man.
Leo, still kind of terrified of Percy: ??????????
The rest of the 7: wtf just happened??

Ok, real talk, the way the show writes Percy as ANGRY at the gods, at his dad, is so GOOD. Like the whole thing is that Percy and Luke carry the same rage at the gods, but Percy’s goodness and loyalty to his friends keeps him from going bad. And the show wrote that PERFECTLY. like Percy is fucking PISSED. “I’m gonna make him see me” YES
I’ve always loved the characterization of Percy as ANGRY at the way he’s ignored until he’s needed. like he’s scary and intimidating and powerful and the GODS ARE SCARED OF HIM and that’s a point often ignored but the shows putting it front and center
Percy wants to be SEEN and HEARD because he doesn’t understand how people can break loyalties and turn their backs and so when they do he gets angry and I want to see it so. Bad.
Percy’s loyalty is to his friends, his camp, his mom. Not his dad, not the gods

And like Percy didn’t know the significance of Montauk??? no ty put it back
they totally changed Gabe Ugly and I’m not sure I like the change? like dealing w gabe is a huge part of what we understand Percy’s childhood to have been like? and the implication of an abusive stepfather and constantly needing to protect his mom and her putting herself knowingly into an abusive relationship for the sake of her son is also a huge thing for their relationship and I just
I get it for the sake of the show but u have some opinions
