Started rereading The Silmarillion for the first time in a decade a few days ago. Got to the destruction of the two trees, took an A03 break, and proceeded to read like a 400k (2 parter) Saurondriel fic.

So back to Tolkien tonight. I could have read this book twice with that word count, but there would have been a lot less smut.

Honest question, when did we stop using SQUICK when it comes to fandom? I remember being introduced to it over 20 years ago and its perfect.

Fanfiction doesn't trigger me personally, but there are topics that 100% squick me. Makes me go "eeew" and maybe wince, hense a squick.

I want to be able to talk about topics I dont like without using words that have real, therapeutic, meanings.

Do we have a replacement word or what?
