Dear Reader,
Reincarnation AU, PJO, 13k words, for @knuffled
Life.
What defines it?
There’s the basic definition that follows two people who fall in love. They meet and become friends, and then they get married. They have a child. It’s the monotonous pattern of putting one foot in front of the other from birth until death so the life cycle continues on.
He likes to think there’s more to it than that.
The law of conservation states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, so where do we really come from? People spew out facts about dark matter floating around in space, about how the universe compressed and expanded outwards in a powerful explosion, creating everything we know, but before that? Where did the energy come from? Maybe something existed before us, and if that’s the case, when we die, it’s not just a blank page. It unravels our current concept of life.
People go somewhere.
Perhaps they go here. It’s hard to know where here is, but wherever it is, it’s beautiful. There’s a rocky cliff overlooking rough waters, gray skies as far as can be seen. The grass on the cliff blows in the wind and stretches on for miles, well beyond what he can see. It’s quiet aside from the rustling of waves that remind him of the everlasting flow of time. The environment feels staticy like there’s something not quite right about where he is, like this isn’t a normal place to be, like there’s energy piling up in a way that should be impossible. It should be unsettling, but it’s not. It feels like home, like this is somewhere he’s been before. If energy is not created or destroyed, then he probably has been here.

autumn leaves falling down
Autumn is as joyful and sweet as an untimely end. Or, Percy, Annabeth, and the year things fell apart and got pieced back together.
— part three: 12k words
“You are aware you don’t live here, right?”
Annabeth doesn’t spare a glance in Piper’s direction. “I’m not moving.”
Piper moves to stand in front of her. She eyes Annabeth’s body spread on the couch, but Annabeth just smiles sweetly in return. She couldn’t bring herself to move even if she wanted to. It’s the perfect place for a nap, which she’d already taken two of that day, and so she lifts the white fuzzy blanket thrown over herself to right below her eyes and smiles at Piper again.
“Are you going to lay there all day?”
“I have three days before the semester starts. Leave me alone.”
“I hope your muscles decay.”
“Then I’ll never move off your couch.”
Piper grabs Annabeth’s socked feet to throw them off the couch and take a seat. Annabeth immediately replaces her feet on Piper’s lap.

autumn leaves falling down
autumn is as joyful and sweet as an untimely end. or, percy, annabeth, and the year things fell apart and got pieced back together.
— part one. 12.6k words
Autumn is Annabeth’s favorite season.
The leaves begin to change colors right before her eyes. She can’t get enough of the prettiest hues—the soft reds and oranges that match the sun. It’s even better when it begins to set over the horizon, captivating her as she stands along the gravel path.
She tightens her fleece coat around herself and brushes a strand of her hair out of her eyes as the wind blows particularly hard. A few leaves that fell to the ground float in front of her feet as she strolls around the empty park. The sun hasn’t quite set, but it’s getting cut off behind the tall buildings lining the sky, and she falls in love with the orange lights cast on the path in front of her.
Annabeth sniffles slightly in the cold, lightly kicking her feet at the pebbles as she tries to pass the time. He was supposed to be here forever ago, but she doesn’t particularly mind being alone right now. Sometimes, all she wants is to watch the autumn leaves falling down.

gravity in the words we write
in which annabeth desperately needs to get back at her ex, percy happens to be the perfect opportunity to do just that, and somehow they end up in a fake relationship that may not be fake at all,, percabeth,, fake dating au,, 17.5k words,, for mia!
“I need you to date me.”
The world comes to a stop as Percy’s brain begins to go haywire. He has to process the sentence a few times because he’s sure he heard something wrong, but Annabeth stays looking at him expectantly.
“What?” Percy finally manages to choke out.
“I need you to date me.”
“You just broke up with your boyfriend.”
“And that’s why I need you to do this for me.”
Percy laughs, sure she’s gone mad. “Why?”
“I need to make him jealous,” she says, like it’s obvious.
“You’re using me to get back at your ex?”
“I never said I was a good person.”
“But this is…” Percy clicks his teeth. “Annabeth. You’re asking me to date you so you can piss your boyfriend off?”
“Ex-boyfriend,” she corrects. “I didn’t sleep all night, and this is—”
“Annabeth.”
“Please just listen to me. I know I sound insane.”
“You sound more than insane.”
“You’re the only person who can help me with this.”
That brings Percy to a halt. It doesn’t make sense. He’s the one person that has rarely ever spoken to Annabeth, and he doesn’t see how he could possibly be useful to her. “Why?”
“Because you’re the one person that’s able to get under his skin.” She sighs and runs a hand through her hair. She looks done. “I can’t explain it, but you bother him. Not many people do, but you do, and I think you’re the best chance I have.”
“Seeing you with me is the best way to get him back?”
She nods, embarrassed and miserable.
“I– this is the most we’ve spoken in years. Wouldn’t it be suspicious if we were to suddenly start dating?”
“Maybe,” she admits, “or maybe he’ll think I’ve been talking to you all along.”
“And that would really bother him,” he finishes for her.
“I know it’s a lot, and it’s out of nowhere, but I need to do something. Right now, I’m mortified because I spent years with someone who was never going to love me back, and I can’t feel like this. I can’t feel useless.”
“But Annabeth…”
“Please, Percy.” Percy isn’t thinking.
Annabeth is standing in front of him — some who he isn’t friends with — and he isn’t thinking. There are a million ways for this to go wrong, but right now, he can’t think of a single one, because Annabeth is in front of him, begging, pleading for his help. He saw the way Connor treated her, and it pulls at something inside of him, because even if him and Annabeth aren’t friends, he knows people like Connor, and people like Connor deserve what they have coming.
And Annabeth looks at him with wet eyes and a puffy nose, picking at her lips until she bleeds. She looks lost, defeated, and it fills him with something foreign. It prickles inside of him, and he kind of wants to cry because she is, and he thinks he can help her.
So he says, “Okay,” and she repeats it back. “I’ll help you.”
She rubs at her eyes, and asks once, “Are you sure?”
This is his chance to back out, he knows, but he can’t, so he says, “I’m sure.”
It’s then that everything is set in motion. He’s never been quite sure how the universe works, but he likes to think the butterfly effect exists. One small action and everything chances. Two words and his entire life can be thrown off course. Maybe what happens next was always meant to happen, or maybe something set him on that path.

stars in your eyes, let’s paint the sky
in which percy’s never been the best at understanding art, annabeth likes painting, and it’s easier to see the beauty that the world truly holds when they’re together,, percabeth,, artist au,, 24k words,, for taylor! @posallys
The first time Percy sees her, he’s seventeen, and he thinks he may be in love.
She’s really pretty, he thinks, and that’s what drives him to sit behind her that first week of school. He’s only a little bit nervous sitting near someone he deems so cute, but he likes to think that he’s not entirely unattractive. It’s not so wild to at least want to find out who she is after not having seen her before.
Besides…it’s fun. Percy enjoys getting to look at people around him. He’s a people watcher, he must admit. He genuinely wants to look at people and find out about their lives. Percy wants to know about why the girl in front of him is in paint-covered overalls, or what she had been drawing that led to the stains of graphite on her left hand. He wants to discover what she uses in her hair to make it look so soft and gold, and what her curls feel like wrapped around his finger.
She’s intriguing and new, and he’s determined to know her name.
Percy doesn’t say anything to her for at least a week. Instead, he just watches. He learns her name is Annabeth — it suits her well, in his opinion — and that she’s an artist. He’s able to see some of her drawings from his place behind her, and he finds that she’s incredibly talented. In her free time, he’s able to see the way she puts her hair up to focus on a sketchbook in front of her.
He even comes to learn that she enjoys painting too, though it should have been obvious from the way so many of her clothes are covered in an array of colors. It’s endearing to see someone care so much for what they do.
Still, Percy has yet to have an actual conversation with her, which he doesn’t mind. He’s content watching and piecing together bits of her personality. It gives him something to do in a history class he’d rather not be in anyways, so he takes his time trying to unravel Annabeth Chase.

Rachel Elizabeth Dare is the girl to step between Percy when he’s in a fight and be like “Percy, it’s me. This isn’t you. Look at me, baby, and pretend there’s no one else in this room except you and me.”
Annabeth would step back and say, “Let them perish,” and to be honest, love her for that

The First Glance
Part one of a new au series. Annabeth is on a cruise ship, in a unique school program. She is unaware of a very confusing and shocking truth.
“You know, I really don’t think this is the best idea,” Annabeth said while staring at her reflection in the bedroom mirror. She pulls her long blonde hair up into an elegant updo, just in time for her roommate, Jessica, to step out of the bathroom and into the stateroom.
“Are you kiddin’? It’s the first night and we’ve already finished unpackin’,” Jessica replied in her cheerful and charming southern accent. “This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I think we should take advantage of every moment. That means findin’ every cute boy on this dang cruise-boat thing and talkin’ up a storm!”
Annabeth contemplated whether or not she should go to the orientation dinner. This was her first day participating in a School-At-Sea program, and a big welcome party after a long day of boarding and unpacking really didn’t sound all that appealing. Flirting with people also wasn’t Annabeth’s strong suit, and she was already nervous enough about the few months ahead of her. So far she’d just gone along with what Jessica wanted to do since they had just met earlier that day and she didn’t want to ruffle any feathers. But did Annabeth want to wear a dress and try to impress boys? No. Absolutely not.
Annabeth responded, “I don’t know if talking to boys is something I know how to do all that well, so if you don’t mind, I’ll be sticking by your side for the majority of the evening.”
If not, all of it.
Jessica sighed. “Alright, whatever floats your boat!” Jessica laughed at her own joke so hard that she nearly choked while taking a sip from her water bottle that she had been holding onto all day. By then the water was definitely room temperature, which Annabeth thought was a little strange. There was literally a fridge three feet away that she could have used to cool her water for at least a little while, but everyone has their quirks, right?
Annabeth giggled. “Alright, that was a pretty good one. Props to you.”
“I know, right? Thank you, thank you,” Jessica proudly said as she bowed before Annabeth. “Are you dressed and ready to go?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be.”
Annabeth and Jessica left their room and began to make their way to the atrium. Truly, Annabeth knew she wasn’t prepared for what was to come. But she had no idea just how unprepared she was. She was in for the shock of a lifetime.
Hours later, in a room packed full of kids from high schools all over the country, Annabeth sat at a corner table to watch the night’s events unfold. She wanted to be as far away from the commotion as possible. She was also fascinated by the way people could just interact with each other and become the best of friends or the worst of enemies in exactly 0.0837 seconds. She watched one girl accidentally trip and spill her smoothie all over another girl’s dress. “Just like the movies,” Annabeth muttered.
“What was that?” Jessica asked.
“Oh, nothing. It’s just all of this seems so stereotypical. Or fake. Or scripted even. It almost feels like nobody else in the room is a real person with their own thoughts. We might as well be in some lame chick flick. You watch, now some guy is gonna walk into the room, make eye contact with a girl and they’ll fall in love and slow dance the night away.”
“Well I sure hope that girl’s me!” Jessica exclaimed. “Falling in love seems like-”
Suddenly, the sound of smashing glass interrupts their conversation. Some guy across the room decided it would be funny to play frisbee with a ceramic plate, which in theory could be pretty funny, but maybe not in a crowded room. Most people seemed to be into it though, so Annabeth let out a small chuckle along with everyone else.
Jessica continued, “So as I was sayin’,” but Annabeth wasn’t listening. Behind Hulk-smash kid on the other side of the room, she noticed a tall, dark-haired boy.
Just as she had glanced over at him, he looked up from his dinner plate. They locked eyes. It was brief, but to Annabeth, it seemed like an eternity. Time seemed to have stopped, and in a split second, she felt all kinds of emotions come over her. She felt happiness, nervousness, love, and feelings of longing that she really couldn’t put her finger on. It felt as if she had met him before. Maybe they had met in a previous life. Maybe they were together in a previous life. She immediately could imagine having a life with him, filled with all kinds of adventures. She could even picture a family with him. Annabeth felt all of these thoughts invading her mind, so quickly and vividly that she was almost convinced that they were real memories. It was like Annabeth’s life flashed before her eyes, but in a good way. And she didn’t even know his name.
Before Annabeth could think about getting up to introduce herself, suddenly the dark-haired boy had disappeared.
“Are you good?” Jessica asked her while tucking a stray strand of hair behind Annabeth’s ear.
“Yeah, yeah I’m good..”
**********
That night, long after Jessica had fallen asleep, Annabeth found herself staring at the ceiling, unable to get dark-haired boy’s intense green eyes out of her head. She kept replaying all of the thoughts of having a life with this boy, unable to comprehend how she was able to dream it all up so quickly.
Feeling slightly overwhelmed by the day’s events, Annabeth decided to go for a late-night walk around the ship. She figured it might be a good idea to get better acquainted with the layout of the cruise anyway. As she made her way around the ship, she felt a strange feeling in her gut. No, not the gut feeling that says ‘get to a toilet.’ The kind that says ‘start walking in that direction because there’s something important that might happen over there.’ This strange urge led her straight to the auditorium located towards the bow. Annabeth entered the room, and sitting in the front row right before the stage was the dark-haired boy from earlier.
Without hesitation, he looked back at Annabeth. It was almost as if he could sense her presence.
“Thank goodness you’re here!” The boy shouted. Annabeth stumbled backwards a step, slightly surprised at him.
“Uh, hi, I saw you earlier at the dinner. My name is-“
“Annabeth, I know,” he said.
“How do you know my name?” Annabeth asked. Just as the last word of her question left her lips, the boy looked her in the eyes. Yet again, all of these vivid images of a life and family with him re-entered her thoughts.
“I see them too. All of our memories.”
Annabeth’s face turned red with embarrassment. She wasn’t quite sure why she was so shy, since it was obvious that they knew each other and they have plenty of memories where she accidentally made a fool of herself.
The boy continued, “I know it doesn’t make sense right now, but know this: we have a life together. We got sent backwards in time somehow. I’m not sure why, but I have a theory.”
Annabeth just stood there in complete silence. She had no idea how to reply, and she had never been more confused in her entire life. Well, at least the part of her life that she hadn’t just remembered in the past few hours.
“My name is Percy, by the way. Percy Jackson.”
Annabeth still could not muster up any kind of response. She wanted to ask a thousand questions, but she had no clue where to even start.
“Meet me tomorrow morning at 9 at my cabin and I’ll explain everything. Room 0837,” Percy told Annabeth. She detected urgency in his voice. “I’ll see you in the morning,” Percy said before walking back to his room, disappearing into the night almost as quickly as he had before.
