I’ve seen five different authors take down, or prepare to take down, their posted works on Ao3 this week.  At the same time, I’ve seen several people wishing there was more new content to read.  I’ve also seen countless posts by authors begging for people to leave comments and kudos.
People tell me I am a big name fan in my chosen fandom.  I don’t quite get that but for the purposes of this post, let’s roll with it.  On my latest one shot, less than 18% of the people who read it bothered to hit the kudos button.  Sure, okay, maybe that one sort of sucked.  Let’s look at the one shot posted before that - less than 16% left kudos.  Before that - 10%, and then 16%.  I’m not even going to get into the comments.  Let’s just say the numbers drop a lot.  I’m just looking at one shots here so we don’t have to worry about multiple hits from multiple chapters, people reading previous chapters over, etc.  And if I am a BNF, that means other people are getting significantly less kudos and comments.
Fandom is withering away because it feels like people don’t care about the works that are posted.  Why should I go to the trouble of posting my stories if no one reads them, and of the people who do read them, less than a fifth like them?  Even if you are not a huge fan of the story, if it kept your attention long enough for you to get to the bottom, go ahead and mash that kudos button.  It’s a drop of encouragement in a big desert.
TL;DR: Passively devouring content is killing fandom.

yes critical analysis of media is super valuable but I think suspension of disbelief isn't practiced enough
"the beginning relied so much on fate/chance meetings/a bizarre set of circumstances that could have solved the conflict if avoided" babe that's an inciting incident

And with that, we end The Trials of Apollo and, for now, the world of Camp Half-Blood.
But no story ever ends...and Chiron, Bast, and Mimir still have that mutual problem.

I'm sure by now everyone has discussed Estelle's sea green Poseidon eyes to death, but this is actually the second time Rick made this mistake - Magnus has Athena's gray eyes.

Post-The Tower of Nero Follow-Up
- Turns out the fox was just a way to keep Thalia and Reyna out of the last book.
- Only a glimpse of Demeter. I wish she'd had more of a presence in this series about her daughter, but I wasn't expecting to get as much Dionysus as we did, so I'll accept the trade-off.
- Seeing Jason again wasn't just wishful thinking! Although it seems like he was just a manifestation in Apollo's dream instead of the real Jason communicating with Apollo via dream, it was something. But I'm annoyed that Nico doesn't seem to have confirmation that Jason is in Elysium, and what is the point of having Hades as a dad if not to confirm that your dead friends are okay in the afterlife?
- So according to Nico, it was okay that Hazel came back to life because she was trapped in Asphodel and deserved a chance to be a hero, while Jason already achieved something better, so he can't come back. Okay, sure, but then what about literally everyone else trapped in Asphodel?
- Absolutely nothing about Georgina's biological parents. I guess the point of this storyline was to show that her biological parentage doesn't matter because Emmie and Jo are her parents, but it just feels like a plot hole.
- Percy and Annabeth had no major role in the story, and I'm okay with that. We got to see and hear them at the end, and they seem really happy despite finally learning about Jason (seriously, did Grover keep that secret on the entire drive across the country?). And we got to see Baby Estelle! And she has......Poseidon's eyes?
- I'm so proud of Rachel and how far she has come from being a potential obstacle for Percabeth. She got to be part of the action instead of just the one giving the prophecies!
Thoughts on the Remaining ToA Books
- Artemis is going to play an important role in the last book. It might be something as simple as getting told off for her and the other gods’ treatment of demigods by an enlightened Apollo, but I feel like she’ll be involved in Python’s defeat somehow. The fox that the Hunters of Artemis are hunting is going to be important. It wouldn’t have been mentioned the way it was if it wasn’t going to be relevant later on. And we’re definitely going to see Thalia again. Her reaction to Jason’s death will be brutal for us to read and for Apollo to see, and the reaction itself might tie in with Apollo’s quest.
- Demeter is going to reveal herself to Meg and help the quest as best as she can without provoking Zeus’ rage. She’s the only Olympian who hasn’t had a role in a quest yet. Since Meg is her daughter, this would be the perfect time for her to finally have a role beyond harassing her son-in-law about cereal.
- We’re going to see Jason again - most likely either as a ghost a la Happy Meals or in Elysium (This might be more wishful thinking than anything.)
- Reyna, Frank, Hazel, Ella, and Tyson will have significant roles in The Tyrant’s Tomb. They’ll have to address why it’s ok that Hazel gets to stay alive but Jason needs to stay dead. Hopefully we’ll also get information about Hazel’s curse - whether or not it’s gone, etc.
- Reyna is going to be distraught over Jason’s death and is going to take it out on Apollo at first. But they’ll bond over their grief, and that will lead to a relationship. Apollo will be the not-a-demigod that will heal Reyna’s heart.
- We’ll learn the truth about Georgina’s (biological) parentage. It’s too obvious to be Apollo, but I can’t think of how else she’d be Trophonius’ “little sister.” I can’t find information about Trophonius’ mother online, so it probably won’t be through her. So unless Trophonius was speaking figuratively, it will have to be Apollo.
- Annabeth will have a role in the last book, since she’ll be the only major PJO/HoO character we won’t have seen yet by that point. We’ll probably also get at least cameos from any other PJO/HoO characters we haven’t seen yet in ToA in that book. Hopefully, we’ll also get to see Baby Estelle.
- Rachel is going to play a big role in book five. As the Oracle of Delphi, she’s going to go with Apollo and Meg to Delphi and help in the defeat of Python.
- It’s still really weird that Apollo has no memory of what happened to him between August and January. This could just be like what happened with Percy, he was asleep until the time was right, but it’s also possible that he was doing something during that time and it’s going to be important.

One day I will reanalyze Piper and Jason's relationship in light of this new information and elaborate on the post I made three years ago about the end of their relationship, but today is not that day.

Earlier in this book, a child cut off a woman's hands, but we can't have anyone thinking that Percy and Annabeth might be living together at college.

I don't want to start anything, but NICO of all people not knowing for sure if Jason is in Elysium or has been reborn or something else is not reassuring.

When I said I wanted someone to be completely broken up about Jason's death instead of jumping straight to the acceptance stage of grief, I was not expecting that someone to be Hera, but I like this.
