Just a short scene I wrote because Zutara has been occupying about 90% of my thoughts lately 😅
Side Note: This scene diverges from canon after the end of the war because damn it, Zuko and Katara will always end up together in whatever context, scene, or story I write. I’m also still working on my full fledged fanfic! I don’t want to give away too many details, but it is a Modern-Day AU with Lunar New Year celebrations, and an extreme amount of fluff and pining. I can’t wait to finally share it! I’m hoping for a late spring/early summer release on AO3, but that may be optimistic because I write about as fast as a snail-sloth.
Anyway, without further ado…
*****
~Zuko’s Favorite Color~
Three years after the end of the 100 Year War, the Gaang meets on Ember Island to spend the week together. Before leaving, Zuko asked Iroh to take over his Fire Lord duties for the time being, just so he could spend his holiday relaxing and enjoying his time with his friends.
They’re all lounging on the beach at the night, drinking tea around a fire.
After slurping her tea and setting the empty cup aside, Toph turns to the group.
“Let’s play a game,” she suggests. “The rules are simple. All you have to do is guess Sparky’s favorite color. The winner gets to have all of their meals paid for by him tomorrow.” She slaps Zuko, who’s sitting next to her, on the back. With a wicked grin, she continues, “And the loser has to plant one on him tonight, with his consent, of course.”
Zuko chokes on his tea. “Hey, wait a minute! None of that is even remotely fair,” he protests, gesturing wildly. He glares at the world’s greatest Earthbender with a scowl. “Either I have to dole out money or I have to give out a kiss. How does any of that benefit me? And why in Agni’s name would we play a game where you all guess my favorite color? It makes so sense!”
Sokka laughs. “Dude, you’re just afraid I’m gonna win and you’re gonna have buy me food. You’ve seen the way I eat - you’ll be out of money by the end of tomorrow!
Snorting, Zuko shakes his head. “Buddy, I think you’re afraid that you’re gonna lose and have to kiss me.”
“Psh, you’d be lucky to kiss me! I’m a real catch, aren’t I, Suki?”
Suki kisses her boyfriend’s cheek and coos, “You sure are.”
Impatiently, Toph sighs. “Are you in or not, Fire Lord? C’mon, you’re among friends. No one’s gonna hurt you. You can back out if you wanna, but I think it’ll be fun.”
Zuko knows she’s right. It’s all in good fun. These are his friends - the ones he’s trusted time and time again. No one would be cruel. Plus, if he’s being honest, he’s hoping that he’ll get to kiss a certain someone tonight. Someone he’s had a crush on for a long time.
“Fine,” Zuko mutters. “Go ahead.”
Toph gleefully rubs her hands together. “Excellent. Does everyone consent to the rules of the game?”
A chorus of ‘yeahs’, ‘yeses’, and ‘yeps’ goes around.
“Sweet,” Toph says. “I’ll go first. Sparky’s favorite color is…blue.”
Sokka nods sagely. “Yep, it’s 100% blue, no doubt about it.”
Suki chimes in with, “I agree. It’s totally blue.”
Aang hums, stroking his chin. “I think blue would be the correct answer here.”
It’s Katara’s turn. She furrows her brows and frowns. “Why are you all saying blue? His favorite color is obviously red! It’s the color of his homeland, and every article of clothing he owns has some shade of red in it!”
Zuko’s cheeks flush to a deep crimson. He feels himself sinking further into the sand. “Um…” he trails off, scrubbing his hands over his face. He’s not even sure how to respond.
Everyone looks at him expectantly.
Toph smirks. “So, Sparky, what is your favorite color?”
He knows he can’t lie. He’s never been able to, and he doesn’t think he could start now. He decides to give in, resigned to his fate.
Peeking between his fingers, he mumbles, “It’s…um…blue.”
Toph laughs uproariously. “Called it! And we all know why! See, you love blue because everything about it reminds you of Sugar Queen.”
Sokka makes a gagging sound, but offers his own explanation. “Blue is the color of her eyes, which you’re constantly drawn to, by the way. Don’t think I haven’t noticed.”
Suki smiles. “Blue is the color of the clothing that she wears.”
Finally, Aang wraps up the conversation with, “Blue is the color of water, which is the element that she bends.”
Katara has been silent this whole time, her entire face highlighted in a lovely, rosy hue. She only has eyes for Zuko right now.
Quietly, she stands from her spot and crosses over to him, sitting down beside him. “Is any of this true?” she asks him softly, an unreadable expression on her face.
A shaky breath leaves his lips, and he nods. “Yeah, all of it,” he answers honestly, feeling his heart thump wildly.
Then, to his complete dismay, she gives him breathtaking smile.
Her ocean blue eyes never leave his as she murmurs, “Now might be a good time to tell you my favorite two colors.” She pauses, leaning over to brush the hair out of his eyes. “Red and gold because they’ll always be a part of you, Zuko. Every time I see those colors, I immediately think of you.”
His gasp is low, but an enormous grin overtakes his face. “Really?”
“Really.” She turns back to the group, who’s been watching with rapt attention. With a gentle smirk, she shrugs. “Guess I lost the game. And I’m nothing if not a gracious loser.”
Zuko hears Sokka snort, but only focuses on Katara.
“Do you really want to kiss me?” he asks nervously, hands clenching the bottom of his tunic to keep them from shaking. “Because I want to kiss you. Spirits, do I ever want to. But, your comfort comes first to me, always. So, we can forget this whole thing if it makes you uncomfortable.”
“I want to,” she sighs dreamily. “I’ve been waiting three years. Don’t make me wait any more.”
With that, they both lean and their lips touch. Finally.
As they continue to kiss, Zuko vaguely registers the sounds of claps, hollers, and an indignant whine of, “Dude, that’s my sister!” in the background.
Eventually, Katara pulls back to catch her breath, leaving Zuko in a dazed state.
She giggles, presses a light kiss to his scarred cheek, and says, “I think you may need to tap into the Fire Nation’s budget tomorrow. Your personal finances aren’t going to look so good with all of those mouths to feed.”
His eyes widen and dart to his friends, who all wave back at him smugly.
Groaning, he wraps his arm around her waist to pull her closer.
He addresses the group. “You’re all the worst. But…” he trails off to kiss the top of Katara’s head. “This stupid game was worth it.”

Sokka: You’ve been dating my sister for six months now. All things considered, you’re not the worst option for her. I actually like you way more than her past boyfriends.
Zuko: *Rolls his eyes* Gee, thanks, buddy.
Sokka: Look, it’s ultimately her choice, and since you apparently seem to make her happy, then that’s all that matters. There is something you should know about Katara, though.
Zuko: *Nervous* What is it?
Sokka: I know how much she cares about you. At some point, I think she’ll, uh, probably express how deep her feelings are. But, here’s the thing: she doesn’t say ‘I love you’ like a normal person. Instead, she’ll laugh, shake her head, give you a little smile and say, ‘You’re an idiot.’
Zuko: Huh, that’s good to know. Thanks.
A couple of months later…
Zuko: *Does something adorably awkward and sweet to try impress Katara, but it doesn’t exactly work out*
Katara: *Laughs, shakes her head, and smiles* You’re an idiot.
Zuko: *Smiles softly* I love you, too.

A short Zutara scene inspired by Captain Holt’s speech from the Brooklyn 99 episode, “Boyle-Linetti Wedding.”
******
A decade after the end of the 100 Year War, Iroh beams at the massive crowd waiting in the courtyard of the Fire Nation palace. It’s been a long time since he’s been back to his homeland, but he wouldn’t miss this day for anything in the world.
He glances to his right to find his nephew in a formal set of robes that contain splashes of rich maroon and deep navy, his flame-shaped crown glinting in the afternoon sunlight. If Iroh is being honest, he’s never seen Zuko look as happy as he does in this moment. To Iroh’s left is the lovely Master Waterbender who captured his nephew’s heart and has kept it safe all these years. She’s dressed in a beautiful, flowing gown of vibrant crimson and ocean blue, her own crescent moon-shaped crown sparkling for all to see. If her radiant smile is anything to go by, she’s just as happy as the man standing across from her. Their hands are clasped tightly together, and their eyes have not left one another’s.
Iroh turns his attention to the crowd, which is full of members across the nations.
In a voice that’s both loud and gentle, he announces, “We are gathered here on this momentous day to celebrate a sacred union between my nephew, Fire Lord Zuko, and Master Katara of the Southern Water Tribe. I have been asked by both of these truly astounding individuals to officiate this ceremony, and it is my greatest honor to do so. I must begin by saying that marriage is many things. It is love. It is commitment. It is joy. It is understanding. It is patience. It is anger. It is reconciliation. It is everything. It is like tea.” He pauses to grin widely, gesturing with his hands. “It…sustains you.”
Finally removing his gaze from his soon-to-be Fire Lady, Zuko rolls his eyes fondly at Iroh, chuckling softly. “Uncle, you couldn’t leave the tea out of this, could you?”
Iroh shakes his head, giving a gentle pat to Zuko’s shoulder. “Just wait until you hear my speech during the reception. It’s all about tea.”
Katara giggles, her eyes shining with warmth and love. “Sounds perfect. We can’t wait.”

This scene was inspired by a couple of interactions between Chidi and Eleanor from The Good Place. My brain said make it Zutara, and well, here we go 😂 The characters are aged-up, by the way. While everything is SFW here, I imagine Zuko being 20, and Katara being 18.
******
A few weeks after attending The Boy in the Iceberg and before the arrival of Sozin’s Comet, Zuko and Katara get into heated argument over their respective teaching styles…
“You’re being too hard on him!” Katara hisses, pushing Zuko away from the others into a hidden corner of the beach house.
“Well, you’re always too lenient! You let him get away with anything!” Zuko argues back, crossing his arms over his chest. He narrows his eyes at her. “The comet is literally days away, and if he continues to be this timid with his firebending, we’re screwed.”
He’s shirtless, and Katara tries desperately keep her irritated gaze leveled on his face, rather than glance down at the rest of him. She swallows, feeling a sudden spike in the temperature around her.
They continue to glower at each other, the tension so apparent that Katara could practically reach out and grab it, twisting it between her fingers.
“Look, I know, all right?” she huffs in exasperation. “But, would it kill you to just be a little more encouraging?”
“Katara…” Zuko starts, his voice low and raspy.
He doesn’t finish his sentence. Instead, he just keeps giving her that look. The one that’s doing all kinds of strange things to her stomach.
The blood rushes in her veins, and she opens her mouth to blurt out the first thing that comes to mind:
“Yeah, I know you wanna do that thing where we’re arguing and fighting, but then suddenly it’s like, ‘whoa, this is hot’ and then we start making out, dream on!” She pauses briefly to check his reaction. He’s breathing heavily, and his pupils have dilated to the point that only a thin rim of gold is left. She pushes her hair behind her ears and continues. “Or, whatever, fine! Let’s just do it!”
Panting, she steps forward into his space. Before her lips brush against his, she waits.
“Is this okay?” she asks quietly.
“Yes,” he whispers.
Their lips meet, and it’s far softer than either one expected, but it’s still perfect.
Katara pulls back to find a dazed look on Zuko’s face. His cheeks are flushed a crimson red, and he looks like he can barely stand up straight.
“Uh, what was…why did you…who was it?” he stammers.
She giggles, enjoying how utterly awkward and adorable he can be at the same time.
“Okay, I’ll take those one at a time, I guess. That was a kiss. I did it because I wanted to, and it seemed like you did, too. As far as who it was, it was me, weirdo.”
He looks at her like he can’t believe she’s real. She lets out another laugh before pressing soft kiss to his scarred cheek.
“Just think about what I said, okay?” She turns to leave, but decides to leave him with a few words. She moves closer to murmur near his ear, “By the way, you’re sexy when you firebend. If you tell anyone I said that, I’ll blast another wave at you. And it’ll be a hundred times stronger than the one I threw at you at the Western Air Temple.”
With a parting wink, she goes to catch up with everyone else, leaving him with his mouth hanging wide open.

Hi there 😊
It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything, but I just had an idea for a particular scene today, so I decided to write about it. I’m taking a break from anything Red, White & Royal Blue related to focus on my current love and hyperfixation: Avatar the Last Airbender. I started watching the series last fall, and I haven’t been able to turn my mind off from it since then. Unsurprisingly, I quickly became obsessed with and fascinated by Zuko and Katara’s dynamic. They’ve become my muse lately. I’m working on a Zutara fanfic as we speak, and I’ll create a post about it once I get it up on AO3.
In the meantime, I wrote this very short scene. It takes place several months after the end of the 100 Year War. Zuko has made great progress as the Fire Lord, and Katara is now an Ambassador for the Southern Water Tribe. They’re in a committed and loving relationship at this point. I used some direct quotes from the Brooklyn 99 episode, “Chasing Amy.” This was initially meant to be a quick, humorous thing, but it turned into something sweeter (I have no regrets, heh). Full disclaimer: If you know anything about the reference to the B-99 scene, you’ll understand that Jake and Amy did have a significant moment of affection on that rooftop, whether it was technically love or not. As for Zuko and Katara, I personally don’t believe they were anywhere close to feeling love or deep affection in the Crystal Catacombs, but I think it’s the first time they truly connected on an emotional level.
Anyway, without further ado…
*****
After a long day of beginning preliminary discussions with the Earth King about the newest trade agreements among the Earth Kingdom, Southern Water Tribe, and the Fire Nation, Ambassador Katara snuck off for some alone time in Ba Sing Se. She managed to convince the Earth King to let her down into the Crystal Catacombs, even though most individuals in the city have been strictly prohibited from ever entering the area again. It’s still in the process of getting repurposed for better, more humane uses. She gave him some flimsy excuse as to why she wants to venture into the cavern. Despite the deep frown he gave her, he apparently didn’t question her motives, and had a couple of guards (thankfully, not the Dai Li) follow her to ensure that she made it there safely. She didn’t need the protection, of course, but she didn’t feel like arguing. She had told the Earth King not to let anyone else know where she was; she promised him that she’d be back to her guest house later.
Now, she finds herself back in the same spot that she was imprisoned with a then-banished Fire Prince.
Just as she runs a hand over one of the crystals, she hears soft footsteps behind her and turns around to find the love of her life.
The Fire Lord is dressed in his formal regalia, but he’s taken his crown off, and his top knot is undone, leaving his shaggy fringe hanging over his bright, golden eyes.
“There you are! Thank Agni,” he sighs in relief, drawing nearer.
A look of surprise flits across her face. “Hey, how did you find me?”
He raises his eyebrow at her. “Well, the Earth King didn’t want to tell me at first, but I figured it out. If I recall correctly, a long time ago, Master Katara and the banished Crown Prince Zuko were trapped under Ba Sing Se, in the Crystal Catacombs.” He gestures to their surroundings, and his lips quirk into a tiny smile. “This is where we were the night you fell in love with me.”
Katara snorts, shaking her head. She crosses her arms and gives him a half-hearted glare. “Zuko,” she warns, with just a bit of an edge to her voice.
“All right, fine. The night that you flirted with me for 20 seconds and I became obsessed with you forever,” he amends sheepishly, his cheeks flushing.
“That’s slightly more accurate.” She steps closer to him, so that there is barely any space between them. She reaches up toward his face, tracing her fingers over his scarred cheek.
“Are you okay?” he murmurs, automatically leaning into her touch.
“Yeah,” she answers softly. “I guess I just wanted to come back to see what it was like, now that things are so different.”
He swallows nervously, though he keeps his eye contact steady. “I understand. I kind of did, too, honestly. I hope…” he pauses, looking like he was choosing his words carefully. She waits patiently for him, and in the next moment, he continues, “I hope we can associate better memories with this place. They’ll never be perfect, of course, because of all the bad things that happened here before. But, maybe when we think of it from now on, it won’t be quite so grim.”
She nods before pulling him into her arms. He hugs her back with everything he has in him, pouring all of his affection and love, and apologies and regret into the gesture.
He lets her go briefly to press a kiss to her forehead. “Do you want to head back up?” he asks quietly, cradling her to his chest with his chin resting on top of her head. “We can probably explore more parts of the city before our next meeting, if you want to.”
She glances up at him and smiles. “Not yet. Let’s just stay a little while longer.”
He agrees and holds her, while the green crystals glow around them.
Yes, she thinks to herself, we’ll have better memories from now on.

Hi! It’s been a minute since I’ve posted, but I had this drafted in my notes app for a long time and figured I’d finally share it.
Inspired, of course, by a Brooklyn 99 episode - “Chasing Amy,” where Amy studies for her sergeant’s exam. I can easily picture a frazzled Alex while he’s studying for the bar, and Henry trying to drag him away to behave like a human being again. For anyone who’s read the bonus chapter in the Collector’s Edition, the events of this post happen before Henry becomes a Quiche Master 😜
Alex, with his glasses askew, hair a mess, and pajamas on, studies furiously for his upcoming bar exam.
Henry: *Walks into the study and sits down opposite of Alex* Darling, you’ve been here all day. Please just take a break. You have nothing to worry about because you are going to ace this test.
Alex: *Looks up from his pile of notes* You think that because you love me, and love has made you dumb.
Henry: I disagree. If anything, love has made me smarter. Remember last week when I boiled that egg?
Alex: *Smiles fondly and leans forward to press a kiss to Henry’s cheek* That was big. I was really proud of you, baby.
Henry: Thank you. If I, a completely hopeless person in the kitchen, can handle boiling an egg, then you can surely take an evening off from studying.
Alex: *Sighs* Not sure how those are even related, but fine. I’ll take a break, but only ‘cause I love you.
Henry: I love you, too. *Gently shoves him away* Go freshen up. I’m going to put my egg boiling skills to good use! Breakfast for dinner will be coming up shortly.
Alex: *Laughs* Sounds good, sweetheart.

The Good Place poses some complex and thought-provoking questions about soulmates. During the episode “The Answer”, Chidi and Michael have an honest conversation about that very topic. Once again, I was inspired and couldn’t help but imagine a similar conversation between Alex and Ellen. So, here it is:
During one weekend, Ellen visits Alex and Henry at their Brooklyn brownstone. After a lovely dinner at home, Alex and his mom wash dishes in the kitchen, while Henry takes David out for a walk.
Ellen: *Grabs a plate from Alex and sticks it in the dishwasher* Are you okay, sugar? You’ve been quiet this evening, which is very unusual for you.
Alex: *Chews on his lip* Do you think soulmates are real?
Ellen: *Raises eyebrow in surprise* That’s not what I thought you were going to say. What’s with the sudden interest in this topic?
Alex: *Shrugs* I dunno. Things with Henry have been great these past few years. I love him so much, and I know that he’s the person I wanna be with for the rest of my life. I just can’t help but wonder if it was fated to be this way? It sounds cheesy, but maybe I found my soulmate?
Ellen: *Smiles softly at Alex* If soulmates do exist, they’re not found. They’re made. People meet, they get a good feeling, and then they get to work building a relationship. That’s what happened when I met your dad, and then again when I met Leo. You and Henry worked damn hard to build what you have, and every day, you fight to keep it. I’ve watched you do it, and I am so proud of the both of you. It’s obvious that you make him happy, and I know he makes you happy. So, soulmates or not, you and Henry are good together. Never lose sight of that, even during the tough days - especially during those days.
Alex: I won’t lose sight of it. I said forever, didn’t I? I intend to keep that promise. *Smiles and hug her* Thanks, Mom.
Ellen: Good. And any time, hon.
Henry: *Comes back into the kitchen* Everything all right in here?
Alex: *Walks over to kiss him, following up with the biggest heart eyes ever* Yeah, we’re all good.
Henry: *Blushes* Why are you looking at me like that?
Alex: I just…I really love you.
Henry: I love you, too, darling. Always.

Alex, while hanging out with June and Nora on three separate occasions, describes all the ways that Henry takes care of him while he’s in law school…
I. Drinks with June and Nora at their favorite bar
Nora: You look like crap. What’s up, dude?
Alex: *Slumps into his seat, head in his hands* I am straight-up depressed. Finals almost killed me. I’m still not sure how I did. Could’ve failed them all for all know. Henry’s been doing his best to cheer me up.
June: *Concerned* I’m sorry about that, bud. What has Henry been doing to help?
Alex: *Points to his jacket* He gave me this sticker this morning just for waking up.
June: Well, at least you got up, right? That’s a good start.
Alex: *Starts slamming shots of tequila*
Nora: And…now he’s going to drown in alcohol.
June: *Picks up her cell phone and selects a contact* I’m calling Henry for back-up. Lord knows we’re going to need someone to drag his body out of here.
II. On his way to meet June and Nora for coffee, Alex grabs a sandwich from a local deli and scarfs it down outside of the coffee shop
June: *Alarmed* Alex, are you eating an Italian sub for breakfast?
Alex: I am, but Henry said I should eat more veggies, so I got extra pepperoncinis.
Nora: *Snorts* Don’t think that’s what he meant.
Alex: *Shrugs and continues to shovel food into his mouth* It still counts.
III. Alex, watching a movie at June and Nora’s apartment
June: That’s the third time you’ve gone to the bathroom since you’ve been here. What is going on with you?
Alex: Oh, Henry freaked out ‘cause I told him I never drink water, so now he’s making me drink eight glasses a day.
Nora: Good for him. He’s getting you to do things that even we couldn’t. You’re whipped, dude.
Alex: *Smiles and takes a swig from his water bottle* Sure am.

Inspired by Jake’s proposal to Amy in the Brooklyn 99 episode, “HalloVeen.”
****
After a busy weekend in Washington DC, Alex and Henry finally have a moment to themselves. They’re relaxing under the linden tree where they shared their first kiss. Alex rests his head against Henry’s shoulder, as they watch the sun start to set.
Alex: Baby?
Henry: *Presses a kiss to Alex’s hair* Yes, darling?
Alex: *Nervously starts to fidget and moves away to face Henry* There’s a reason why I asked you to come with me on this trip.
Henry: *Amused* Oh? I thought it was because you desperately missed me each time you travel to DC.
Alex: *Chuckles* Well, that too. But, I…actually have something to ask you.
Henry: *Brushes his hand against Alex’s cheek* Are you all right, love?
Alex: *Swallows* Yeah, I’m good. *Carefully pulls a small box out of his trouser pocket and rises so he’s on one knee*
Henry: *Gasps, tears pooling in his eyes*
Alex: Okay, here it goes. Hen, I love you. I love how smart you are. I love how beautiful you are. I love your face, and I love your butt. I should’ve written this down first.
Henry: *Giggling through his tears* No, no, it’s okay. Go on.
Alex: I love how much you pretend to like Empire, even though you prefer Jedi, which is still wrong, by the way.
Henry: *Snorts* I still don’t understand how my favourite movie can be wrong.
Alex: *Glares, but smiles* Can I continue?
Henry: Yes, please do.
Alex: You’re kind, and you’re funny, and you’re the best person I know. Also, for real, I love your butt.
Henry: I love yours, too.
Alex: *Smirks before flashing a genuine, soft smile* Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor, will you marry me?
Henry: *Grins* Alex Claremont-Diaz, I will marry you.
Alex: *Sighs in relief, slips the ring onto Henry’s finger, and kisses him*
Henry: *Gently holds Alex’s face* I love you so much.
Alex: I love you, too, sweetheart.

This idea was completely inspired by a story my friend told me recently. She and her husband live in the countryside, and they often have critters wandering around their home. So, I’m putting my own RW&RB spin on it because why not?
Here’s a short, quick look at Henry and Alex’s life after the brownstone.
****
After moving out of the brownstone and into a countryside house in New York, Alex and Henry find themselves with a bit of groundhog problem. There’s a couple - one female and male - who frequently visit their yard. Alex has taken a liking to them, and has started leaving treats for them. Henry, on the other hand, isn’t so thrilled about this development.
On a chilly day in early September, Alex watches the pair of groundhogs from the patio window. There’s a bowl of watermelon out there, and the groundhogs are happily munching on it. Henry wanders in a minute later, wrapping Alex in a warm hug from the back.
Henry: Hello, love.
Alex: *Leans into the hug* Hey, baby.
Henry: *Points to the pair of groundhogs, and tries to be firm, but gentle* You’ve been supplying them with food again. At this rate, they’ll never leave. You know we can’t keep them, right?
Alex: I know, but they’re cute! Just look at them!
Henry: *Melts, but fights desperately to remain firm* I see them, darling, but they will take over our entire yard if we allow this to continue. I nearly tripped into a hole that one of them made the other day.
Alex: *Chews on lip nervously* I’m sorry that you almost got hurt from that. But, we can’t get rid of them because I kind of, uh, named them?
Henry: *Dumbfounded* You named them?
Alex: Yeah, Romeo & Juliet.
Henry: *Raises eyebrow in disbelief* I know that you’re not the biggest fan of classical literature, but Romeo & Juliet is one of the most well known plays in the world. You do realise that love story ends in tragedy, yes? By giving the groundhogs those names, you’ve basically sealed their fate.
Alex: *Gasps* I didn’t even think about that! I just thought they were cute, and that it’d be awesome to name them after a famous couple. *Points to them* Look, the female is even wiping watermelon juice off her partner’s face! Like, that’s real love, sweetheart.
Henry: *Sighs, knowing he’s going to lose this argument* If you’re going to name them, at least pick a couple that has a happy ending, like Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.
Alex: *Groans* Pride and Prejudice again? Can’t you literally pick anything else?
Henry: Hey, you selected two names from a tragedy! Who’s actually the ridiculous here?
Alex: *Grins* Well, you just suggested some names, so I’m gonna guess that they’re growing on you. Does this mean you’re gonna let them stay?
Henry: *Rubs his face in exasperation* I’m positive I’m going to regret this, but as for now, I will not call anyone to remove them. They can…stay.
Alex: *Turns to kiss Henry* You’re the best, Hen. I’m sure R & J will appreciate it.
Henry: We are naming them something else!
Alex: Sure, whatever you want, baby.
Six months later…
Henry stomps around the yard, almost tripping and falling into another groundhog hole. Now, there are even more holes because Elizabeth and Darcy have four little pups to look after. They’ve decided to make this yard their permanent home.
Henry: *Shouts loud enough for Alex to hear* ALEX! Do something with this bloody yard! Your groundhogs are going to be the death of me, I swear!
Alex: *Opens the sliding glass patio door and laughs* Don’t you mean our groundhogs? You named them, after all.
Henry: *Flustered* You are a demon, you know that?
Alex: *Continues to laugh, but goes outside with a shovel in hand to fix some of the holes of in yard* I love you, too, sweetheart.
****
Yes, my friend seriously named her groundhogs Romeo and Juliet 😂 Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this ridiculous tale!

Clearly, I’ve been inspired by my recent re-watch of Brooklyn 99. Here’s another Incorrect RW&RB Quote, featuring dialogue from the B-99 episode, “New Captain.”
In an alternate universe where both Alex’s and Henry’s feelings are verbally acknowledged a little earlier on…
Alex and Henry, meeting in a secluded room during a charity event. Cash stands guard outside of the door.
Alex: I really like you.
Henry: I like you, too.
Alex: Good!
Henry: But, what if we start dating and it makes things weird for both of our nations?
Alex: So, let’s just keep it light and breezy! See where it goes.
Henry: Totally. Yeah. So, how do we keep it light and breezy? I know - a comprehensive set of rules!
Alex: *Groans* How am I attracted to you? Doesn’t matter. I am, go.
Henry: Rule 1 - let’s not tell anyone, so we can figure out what this is first.
Alex: Smart. Rule 2 - let’s not put labels on it. We’re not boyfriend and boyfriend. We’re just mermzie benjingle bin.
Henry: Great! Rule 3 - let’s not have sex right away.
Alex: *Stares and gulps* Cool, cool, cool cool, cool, no doubt, no doubt, no doubt, no doubt, no doubt. Good rule. No sex. Good rule.
Henry: So…should we go out tonight? You know, in secret?
Alex: Yeah, totally. Maybe 8? Maybe 9? Doesn’t matter. We’re light and breezy.
Henry: Totally light and breezy.
Cash: *Knocks on the door* You have a minute to wrap it up.
Henry: *Startles and jumps about foot in the air* Ah!
Alex: *Laughs* Wow, very chill.
Henry: *Glares at Alex* Shut up.
Several hours later, cut to Henry and Alex in bed together, catching their breaths.
Alex: So, we broke a rule.
Henry: *Swallows* Yeah. I hope it wasn’t a mistake.
Alex: *Smiles* Trust me, it wasn’t. Rules are made to be broken, aren’t they? *Leans in for another kiss*

Hi there! I just wanted to say thank you to anyone who has liked or reblogged my posts in the last few days 😊 It might be cheesy, but it actually makes my day whenever I get a like or reblog notification. I never thought I’d post anything to this blog, and even if I did, I didn’t think anyone would care enough to leave a note. The fact that I’ve received quite a few likes and reblogs means a lot to me, so thank you!

Ellen: *Officiating Alex and Henry’s wedding* We are here today to celebrate the marriage of Alexander Claremont-Diaz and Henry George Edward James Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor. It has been a true pleasure to watch your distracting, childish rivalry evolve into a distracting, childish courtship, and now into what I’m sure will be a distracting, childish marriage. I’m proud of you, and I love you both.
Alex: *Smiles cheekily* Permission to say it back?
Ellen: *Fondly, holding back tears* Permission granted.
Henry: Love you too, Ellen.
Alex: Love you, Mom.

Welcome to the ramblings of grad student who doesn’t sleep that much and lives on Diet Coke 😂 Brevity is not my friend, so whatever I write will be long-winded because I can’t apparently say things in a few words.
Even though I’m relatively new to the RW&RB fandom, I’ve been completely obsessed with it lately. So much so that I have a million and one ideas for fanfics! I wish I had more time (and motivation) to actually write something with substance. I probably will at some point. As of now, though, I have all these random thoughts that I’ve sketched out. One of them is a 5+1 story about Alex’s failed proposal attempts (5 times he tried to propose to Henry and something got in the way, and 1 time he actually did propose). Here’s a quick (and extremely rough) snap-shot of the actual proposal scene. If I do write this someday, I’ll obviously spend more time on it and make it much more detailed. Also, I’d like to thank @underwinterclouds for letting me ramble about this idea.
Alex: *Slams the front door of the brownstone open, standing in the foyer, dripping and shivering from the storm in his NYU Law hoodie*
Henry: *Immediately runs over with a towel and starts drying him off* Darling, you’re drenched! Did you run all the way home?!
Alex: *Ignores the question and proceeds to pull a ring box from his hoodie pocket, dropping down to one knee* I love you, Henry. And I’d like to spend the rest of my life with you, if you’ll have me. Will you marry me?
Henry: *Stunned, stops mid swipe of the towel, with tears in his eyes* Did you just —
Alex: *Sheepish* Yeah… I was studying in the library, and I couldn’t concentrate because all I could think about was you. I’ve wanted to propose for a while, but no moment seemed right. Then, I figured why continue to wait? So, I left, but it was raining so I just…ran.
Henry: *Laughs through his tears, releasing the towel* This is much more chaotic than what I had planned.
Alex: You—what?
Henry: Wait right here. *Runs to their bedroom to retrieve something, and comes back to see Alex still kneeling*
Henry: *Drops to both knees with a ring box in his hands* I had a few ideas in mind. I thought about flying us to DC to propose near the linden tree where we shared our first kiss. Or, to London to visit the V&A where we had our lovey dance. I even considered asking your father if his lake house was available because that’s your favourite place in the world, and it’s where I realised you could possibly love me in return. But, this works just as well because this is our home - the place where we get to love each other peacefully and freely. Even though this moment isn’t quite how I pictured it, it’s infinitely better because it’s messy and chaotic and beautiful. It’s completely…us.
Alex: *Tearing up now, too* You were gonna—
Henry: Of course, love. We said forever, didn’t we? And even though we don’t necessarily need to be married to be with each other forever—
Alex: Don’t even finish that sentence ‘cause I’m gonna marry you, sweetheart.
Henry: *Raises eyebrow* I haven’t even asked you yet.
Alex: *Shakes the ring box, which he’s still holding, emphatically* Well, you didn’t give me an answer to my question yet, either.
Henry: Oh. *Blushes* Yes, of course I will marry you, Alex. And will please you do me the great honor of being my husband?
Alex: *Laughs* Well…since you asked so nicely, I guess I’ll have to say yes. *Smirks before leaning in for a fierce kiss*

Before getting involved with Henry
Alex: Every problem has an answer. If you just read enough books and think hard enough you can figure out the answer to any question.
Nora: I know you're really smart, but that sounds wrong.
After falling in love with Henry
Alex: There is no “answer.” But Henry is the answer.
Nora: *Smiling, but also snickering* That is the most ridiculously romantic thing I’ve ever heard. I don’t know whether to gag or congratulate you for being sensible for once.
Henry: *Overhears their conversation from around the corner, and quietly moves closer* Alex, darling?
Alex: *Just notices him* Hey, baby. What’s —
Henry: *Kisses him soundly* You’re my answer, too, love.
Alex: 😍
