like obviously they don't have to love him (though they can still choose to, thomas looking at you 👀), but its so hurtful to me every time they act like alastair is inherently undeserving of love from anyone because of their own personal past problems with him, and it's even worse knowing that alastair has an implied history of being manipulated and emotionally abused, and those kinds of ideas are the main fuel of that kind of abuse. alastair has been told his whole life that he's unlovable and undeserving of love.

I’m rereading City of Fallen Angels which has Lilith in it and I forgot that she got to Jace through his dreams. It made me think back to ChoI where she’s pretending to be Magnus and tells them that she’s an expert in dream magic, and then how she went with James to meet Belial. I always thought her saying that was just because she was pretending to be Magnus and he’s really good at dream magic (ex. the Jessa wedding), but now I’m thinking it’s also because Lilith herself is an expert at it.

There’s just so many characters that are so complex with really interesting relationships in TLH idk how everything is going to get fit into only one more book. Like there’s so much potential there to explore with all of the characters and I just wish the series was longer or smth so we could see all of it 😭. I’m hoping ChoT will be really long and/or we’ll get short stories or smth of them in the future.

I recently reread Chain of Gold in preperation for Chain of Iron and I disliked Grace a lot less this time. My first time reading it I was swept up in the rollercoaster of emotions of the story and naturally reacted to everything Grace did with distrust, scepticism, and dislike. Rereading it, though I was able to pay more careful attention to everything the characters were doing and think more deeply about their motivations, actions, and where they were coming from. I still don't really like Grace, but I have definately come to understand her better and I'm looking forward to seeing her interact more with Lucie and have some kind of redemption arc.

So we know that in Chain of Iron Charles is going to have to return to Paris to deal with some issue he's involved in. Do you think that Thomas is going to figure out/find out that Charles was in Paris with Alastair when Thomas was there on vacation? I think its possible that he'll hear something and put together that Alastair was staying with Charles in Paris and that's why he refused to tell Thomas where he was staying.

This is unrelated to the Shadowhunter Chronicles buuuuttttt why is everyone in Bridgerton so gay but at the same time completely straight. I really fell for it omg I thought Anthony and Simon were gay for the first three episodes, figured I was being too hopeful, then I thought at least Benedict would be bi or something. I guess not. I really cannot with this queerbaiting in 2021 oml. It’s an entertaining show but I really was hoping for a queer storyline ya know.

When Alastair is talking to Charles about how there are others like Anna and Magnus who live openly, I think it’s interesting that he doesn’t mention Matthew. Do you guys think that’s because Alastair doesn’t know that Matthew is queer and he and Anna run in the same circles? (It seems like Alastair is well aware of whats going on, who Anna is, how popular Anna is, etc so do you think he would also be aware that Matthew is queer and they go out together?) Or does he not want to bring Matthew up with Charles? Or is it because he doesn’t like Matthew so he doesn’t want to use him as an example? I’ve been thinking about this for a while and I’m not sure what to make of it. I’m curious of what you guys think about it.

Also, do you guys think that Charles knows that Matthew is bi? (It seems to me like he would, considering Matthew isn’t very subtle about it and Charles knows he frequents the Hell Ruelle) And do you think Matthew knows or has a feeling that Charles is queer? I think it’s so interesting that they have this in common but they’re so uncommunicative, distant, and on Charles’ side, secretive, that they don’t talk about it and may not know they have it in common.

I think Matthew and Alastair would have an amazing friendship if they could move past their issues. Like they kind of have a lot in common in the way that they’re both snarky, they’re both queer, they both have issues with Charles, they both really care about Cordelia, they both have had to care for their fathers since they were very young, etc. If they really talked to each other for a while I think they would realize that. Their banter is great and I think they could have a really cute friendship that develops over time like Will and Gabriel.
